NASA Director Thrown Under The Bus
— DrewM

Sure by the end of the year we won't be able to put anyone in space any more but we still lead the world in throwing people under the bus.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday that NASA Administrator Charles Bolden must have misspoke when he told Al Jazeera last month that one of his top priorities is to reach out to Muslim countries.

"That was not his task and that's not the task of NASA," Gibbs said.

Bolden, though, said last month in the interview that it was President Obama who gave him that task. He made a similar claim in February.

The White House also backed up Bolden last week when his remarks first stirred controversy. A White House spokesman last Tuesday said Obama wants NASA to engage with the world's best scientists and that to meet that challenge, NASA must "partner with countries around the world like Russia and Japan, as well as collaboration with Israel and with many Muslim-majority countries."

NASA last week walked back Bolden's claim that Muslim outreach was the "perhaps foremost" plank of his mission, saying that Bolden was merely talking about his "outreach" responsibilities and that space exploration is still NASA's No. 1 job.

As you can see, this isn't any old bus throwing. No, this one has a bit of John F. Kerry, I was for making NASA reach out to the Muslim world before I was against twist. Not everyone can pull that off.

I have a confession to make, I wouldn't mind if part of what NASA did was to inspire kids around the work (including Muslims) to value science and dream big. I'd much rather Muslim kids aspire to be great engineers and astronauts than spend all their time in school memorizing the Koran and becoming embittered against the west. We aren't going to kill them all, so using whatever leavers we have at our disposal to win a some hearts and minds is a good thing.

The best way to do that of course is by example and success. You know, do some really cool space stuff. Believe it or not, NASA actually used to do that back in the day. If you want to throw in the occasional conference and scholarship aimed at kids in Muslim nations, that's fine with me. The problem, as always, is the way the administration went about this. They tried to score cheap points by saying it was the most important thing. They came off as valuing style over substance and dressed arrogance up as compassion.

I wouldn't be surprised if Obama never said any such thing to Bolden (though I wouldn't be surprised if he did). The thing is, given the unprecedented level of stupidity and arrogance exhibited by this administration Bolden had every reason to believe this is the kind of thing Obama would want him to say even if he never actually was explicitly told to.

Now that it didn't work out with the public....it's under the bus for Administrator Bolden.

Maybe when Bolden is done at NASA, which maybe sooner than later, he can start working on a Muslim version of this.

39 FLIP FLOP administration. Obama is that obtuse. Bolden had the audacity to quote Obama in public, to actually attempt to achieve the directive Obama gave him. McChrystal tried that as well, much longer and in much heavier detail, so that much more frustrating than for Bolden.

And while Obama is killing NASA (that effectively researches for our military), the Brits have produced Taranis, their autonomous stealthy Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) "capable of precisely striking targets at long range, even in another continent."

He could then encourage all of the suicide bombers to make oneway trips into space to blow up space debris.

I certainly would be surprised if Bolden was making that up.  Who would ever think to do such a thing?  Even among the retards in this junta?  No.  This administration is run, strictly, from the top.  That's what they're all about.  They want that for the US (with the feral government controlling everything) and that is how their own organizations are structured.

And, in any event, if Bolden did make this up, then that shows how incredibly retarded he is and calls into question the competence (as if their total ineptitude were nto already well known to anyone with a brain) of those who would choose such an idiot and allow him into that position.

138 4 Arabs have not been allowed to have a single original idea since 714 CE. That's just the way it is.   Why use the term CE?  I know it stands for the "Common Era" but I still don't understand its purpose, other than to take another jab at Christianity.    I mean, the traditional BC/AD is the method of reckoning time that had been adopted by the western world.  So has the naming of the various months of the year after Roman deities and various days of the week after Norse gods, and none of those have been challenged or changed as un-PC, at least not since the French Revolution anyway.   Just something I'm genuinely curious about, I guess.

Because Academia has a special hate for the old Church despite.

A. The old Church saved and duplicated most of the classic writings of older civilizations that are available today.
B. Are the origin of academic regalia, due to academic study being confined to monasteries, the two being virtually the same institution in the middle ages.
C. The Catholic Church was responsible for the calendar of the modern world.

In their mind Academia has grown up, has risen, and is ready to strike down their old master and replace it as the focus of worship; But first they need to get rid of any references to that troublesome God and Savior.

177 I'd much rather Muslim kids aspire to be great engineers and astronauts than spend all their time in school memorizing the Koran and becoming embittered against the west.

With all due respect - really, I do respect you - I think this is incredibly naive.

The way Islam is structured, with its patriarchical society, good little Muslim boys and adult Muslim men have plenty of time to do both - pursue their careers and their fanatical devotion to blowing up the West - while their dutiful wives and mothers coddle them and support them at home.

In my experience with foreign nationals studying/working in science, technology, and engineering in U.S. universities, they change very little in terms of their philosophical bent by being here.  The Communist Chinese students remain very different than the students from Taiwan, the Indians retain their identity, as do the Muslims.  Having access to the benefits of a Western country does not mean that they will adopt a Western view of things.

I would much prefer the Islamists throw rocks and molotov cocktails at us - or even rely on stolen or ill-gotten weapons - than to see them equipped with the ability to design and manufacture their own high-tech weapons.

If you want to change Islam through education, then educate the female students, empower them, and maybe they can turn their men around (but I doubt it).

180 Since we're talking about calendars and muslim contributions to ... anything, I think it appropriate to note that the islamic calendar stands out as the only major all-lunar calendar.  The Jewish calendar was lunar-based, but adjusted for the solar year with a leap month (as many of the calendars had progressed, naturally, as a growing modern civilization was agrarian and had more of a connection to the sun than the moon - which is more important to desert types).

But, here, we have one of the first contributions of islam, in that Mohammed commanded that muslims must go back to the primitive, strictly lunar calendar (which drifts aimlessly through the solar years) and Mo even put an exclamation point on it by declaring that the addition of any intercalaries was a capital offense in islamic "law".

Just some islamic calendar trivia explaining why that ideology is so backward and primitive and will never be able to coexist peacefully in close proximity to any developed society.

181 I wonder if a single person on earth believes Gibbs when he says anything, ever, at any time. What a complete and unrepentant asshole.

Posted by: Christopher Taylor at July 12, 2010 01:52 PM (PQY7w)

182 To remain in the job tells you everything you need to know about his character.  If someone like Gibbs challenged your veracity and truthfulness, would you continue in the job?

EXACTLY.  Except if I were the NASA administrator, my resignation would have been on Toonces' desk before he finished getting the words "...to Muslim nations" out of his mouth.

Because this is a personal, gut-level blow.  American blood has been shed to purchase our foothold in space, and THIS is what the douchbag wants to do with that heritage?  I'm sitting here trying to think of something worse, and seriously, I can't, unless it's putting suicide bombers on the pad so as to grant them better firepower.

Barry has finally fucked with the wrong program.  You have conservatives who hate the idea of the government funding space exploration, and you have commie libs who would rather see the money poured down the destructive toilet of social programs, but the great middle, even if not totally interested in space, still go "Hey, neat" over spaceflight in general.  The image of Buzz Aldrin saluting the flag has become synonymous with American exceptionalism, and Barry tried to unplug that and re-socket it into an enemy nation's wall.  He fucked with Americana and this dipshit Bolden has paid the price--but now, without any honor whatsoever.

184 Drew M -- Muslim engineers like Mohammed Atta?

Let us be clear. Really poor Muslim men spend all their time figuring out how to get something to eat to survive. They are not a threat.

It is Muslim men who reach middle class or higher affluence, Engineer Mohammed Atta, Osama bin Laden, son of a billionaire, Crotch bomber AbdulMutallab, son of a Nigerian billionaire, that are threats, to travel to the West, and kill Westerners.

If anything, non-Muslims would be secure if Muslims were as poor as they were say, in 1928. You don't see Muslims from Niger, or Chad, or Mauritania, traveling to the West to blow people up. They just can't afford it (and have no knowledge or interest of the West, which remains at most a vague rumor to them).

No, making everyone better off DOES NOT create harmony. Quite the reverse, its like a tribe that gets a casino or Usual Suspects. The cut goes further when there's less people taking the cut. Moreover, more money means more resources for the worst rather than better part of human nature to take hold.

185 calls upon “all people of good will to repudiate the racism of the Tea Parties, and to stand in opposition to its drive to push our country back to the pre-civil rights era.”

And if you needed any further proof that the civil rights establishment is stuck in the 60's, well, there you have it. Because if racism stopped being a problem, then these groups would have no reason for existence.

Still, I wonder how much influence this group has with regular black Americans vs. how much influence it has over businesses and government.

Which would explain why any given Muslim country is NOT a major contributor to the world's food supplies.

I wonder if Ramadan wandering along the calender through the years caused any sort of starvation problems.

190 Good News for the white unemployed men....
The financial regulations package recently passed by the House of Representatives would create a new diversity overseer at each of the major federal financial regulatory agencies, including the new ones created by the legislation itself.

Well, maybe not....

This new office, called the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion, would take over from any existing diversity or civil rights office already working at the agencies in question.

But at least it will be administered equally across the board...

However, each individual diversity czar is responsible for defining exactly how many minorities, women, and minority- and women-owned businesses are satisfactory.

Nope, you're screwed.

In the initial takeover of the promised land, it was all-out war - take no enemies, leave no suvivors at times.  Of course, the promised land was quite finite and once it was conquered no further activities of this type were entertained, except that the land was defended without apology - no matter what it took.  But this state structure was never meant to be applied outside of the promised land.

For islam, the "Kill, kill, kill!" attitude extends to the whole of the world - and out into space, if NASA gets its way.  It is limited by nothing and promoted by the ideology's declaration that all falls under it.

Fuck you, whoever you are.

It's becoming increasingly obvious that the Dems would have been able to pick Scott Brown off as a vote for ObamaCare if they'd really needed him.  They'll have him for Cap & Trade, Card Check, Kagan, and whatever else they want.

Brown is worse than useless.

The vast majority of people are not douchebag political junkies like we are.  Most conservatives are simply watching a guy we expended time and money working to elect not six months ago to serve as a bulwark against all of this shit rolling right over and helping to pass all of it.  They have had it up to fucking here with liars, cowards, and frauds and they are not going to listen to a collection of wonkish assholes on the "right" tell them they have "tunnel vision" for being angry at getting stabbed in the back.

The election of Scott Brown got us absolutely NOTHING, in case you haven't been paying attention.  All his betrayals are doing is increasing the anger and disillusionment of the party base toward the GOP.  If you really think that the destruction of America's financial sector and de facto nationalization of all American businesses is a net gain for us just because it encouraged Hattie McBaldo to run for office in a deep blue state, then good for you.  Enjoy it.

I dunno.  The trouble is that the ag folks, who in many ways "should" be conservative and are conservative, want cheap labor.  Lots of money in that group.  I think they have enough money to protect their personal interests while propping up a broken immigration system that gets them cheap labor to pick their crops.

If they could find a way to enforce all immigration laws we would flip back to red tomorrow and get even redder in a decade.

Throw another 'if' in there, too. They have to find a way to take citizenship away from all the Mexican anchor babies that have been born there in the last 50 years. Because, once they are American, they are entitled to all benefits and can bring their family over from Mexico.

If you want to deport their parents, of course, you, SIR, are worse than Hitler. Sounds terrible to say, but the wrong cultures are outbreeding the right ones. People will read that as race, but that's not the case. Smart people don't have 10 kids with ten different women, OR with one. Because they would feel responsible and think the baby would be THEIR financial responsibility. When that doesn't hold you back, it's fucking time, baby. Sure, they have serious consequence in their lives, but paying for their babies ain't one of them.

338 #341 Its Cracker Culture from the hill lands of England, circa 1550. fucking sad it gets defended as some legit "black culture" and then these liberal ar-tards adopt black kids and take them to a 2Pac read-in as if that is legitimate blackness. (read Sowell's AWESOME Black Rednecks, White Liberals if you doubt the history- "aint, you is, you dissed me" all traces back to southern cracker culture, which traces back to England's cracker culture) We wiped that ignorance out in the white south (besides the occasional hicktown), then reinforced it amongst blacks with WIC, welfare and public housing (thereby allowing for the ignorance to fester rather than face extinction from economic ultimatums) My only fear for my kids is that they might get pressured against "acting white", but if they are anything like their mom they'll respond with sarcasm (she was called an Oreo for opting for the valley accent and properly pronouncing "ask")

I dunno.  The trouble is that the ag folks, who in many ways "should" be conservative and are conservative, want cheap labor.  Lots of money in that group.  I think they have enough money to protect their personal interests while propping up a broken immigration system that gets them cheap labor to pick their crops.

True, but the number of ag workers, as a percentage of Illegals is pitifully small. It's some number less than 1%.

There is little that is more expensive than 'cheap labor'.

http://bit.ly/cAg7md

Illegals add over $21,000,000,000 in cost to California's budget alone.

Damn right, CAC. I had students with 'A's ask me to fail them because they were getting teased. Reading a book was mocked as 'acting white'. I admire the kids that could stand up to it and see the bigger picture. Their parents were the hardest working people in the neighborhood.

Growing up in the deepest darkest crackerest part of Georgia, I was friends with a million black kids, and it never, ever occurred to me that they weren't just like me. My mom hated y'alls black asses, but she got hers because my sisters married strong black men. Hilarious. She actually kicked me out once because I let my brother-in-law in the house. Seriously. How fucked in the head is that?

Two things I have seen in my experiences:
1. The trailer park and the ghetto are almost exactly the same.
2. Rich people and poor people are taken care of by the government.

352 #359 Ive been thinking Jim about the latest poll numbers showing the black vote going 1/3 to the Republican Whitman and Fiorina... Knowing the black v mexican thing happening in Los Angeles, knowing that blacks SUPPORT the Arizona law ... seeing how the politicians in LA County have shifted much of the goodies money to Latinos and Latino communities at the expense of Lynwood and Carson and South Central... perhaps the Los Angeles-I.E. blacks have had enough. They enjoyed most favored minority status in California for a while, but now they got the double whammy- competing with illegals for jobs AND on the low end the community $$ and welfare state. So perhaps this sizeable statistical breakoff is a sign of pushback by a sizeable minority of blacks pissed off about the sudden overimportance of the illegal.

Poverty is not a mental disorder, I've been to small store-front churches in the ghetto that preach self-reliance and often times that's what keeps the community together.

Poverty is what libs use to crush the spirits of poor people.

You think Shabazz hates white people? I hate people like Shabazz who enslave their own people through ignorance.

Fuck them.

Fuck them.

Much like the muslims who happily blow themselves in half in the hopes they can kill Jewish children, the inner city folk have been taught from early on that they are victims and don't even have to try.

Con men keep them that way, but their parents start the indoctrination. They are too stupid or don't care to get out of their situation. They are mental slaves to people like Shabazz Malik Erika Bambada Badu and Rev Wright, no doubt. Those guys all live in gated, WHITE neighborhoods away from the shit they love to preach about.

But, yeah, fuck them if they won't be helped and can be so easily duped.

419 ..why do you axe??

I've only been in California for about 4 years, but my impression is that it someone's perspective of the state is really colored by where one is, south vs north, inland vs coast, rural vs city.  So I was just curious where you lived in California.

I think the people down here in Southern California (eastern L.A. county/Inland Empire) are so stressed out about getting by here that even if they trend conservative (as several of my neighbors do) they are not up for a big political fight.  I think getting someone who is not part of the Democrat machinery and somewhat business friendly is about the best we can hope for.

421 O/T:  "Boston University professor is found dead in lab"   "Cerrina was a native of Italy. He joined the BU faculty in 2008 as chairman of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department after spending 24 years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He held 16 patents and was described as a leading scholar in optics, lithography and nanotechnology."

422 There is little that is more expensive than 'cheap labor'.

I agree, but I've talked with a fair number of ag business types (when I was working for a UC ag school) and they just don't seem to see it.  There was only one guy out of about two dozen board member types who wanted to invest in engineering solutions to pick crops (like robotic stone fruit pickers), the rest of them just wanted to talk about "immigration reform."

I think they are so insulated from the numerous downsides of the illegal problem here that they just don't care what it does to the state.  They have lots of money, family money, and property, including out of state, so once they retire they're set.

431 Since the purity fight upthread invoked Goldwater, I wanted to add my 2 cents. Goldwater was an honorable conservative and a fine senator from AZ. He lost a national election as the GOP nominee in one of the biggest political bloodbaths in American history.

Reagan came along and advanced the conservative cause. He started out as a Democrat and lost the nomination to Ford before winning a landslide victory four years later. He actually lost the nomination in 1968 to Nixon, as well, now that I think of it.

CA and MA are not going to flip over night, even if you have the purest guy you can find on the ballot. They are both controlled by unions, gerrymandered and largely inhabited by a dependent class of citizens.

How long have conservatives been bitching and moaning about Snowe and Graham? McCain is more conservative than the Maine sisters, but neither of them have faced a primary challenge like the one in Arizona right now. The best they could dredge up was Hayworth, too, so Maverick will stay.

I have read Brown's editorials in Boston papers about why he will vote the way he will. Mitt Romney would have voted the same way. At least Brown will vote with conservatives when he can, but he has to do it with consent of the people who elected him. The Republican party as a whole has not successfully made a case why this bill will kill the economy. It is still seen by the majority of Americans as a "reform" bill, and nobody wants another crisis or a worse economy. It's as if there is a gun to the public's head, and the GOP has not controlled the situation yet. As the RNC chairman said, "Our party is not ready to lead." So, shut up about Brown.
