Nevada Results
— Ace

Close so far between Lowden and Angle.

UPDATE [DrewM.]: Fox News says the AP is calling it for Angle.

Reid is on the ropes and the Nevada GOP just nominated the candidate he wants to run against. She better not screw this up.

Thats who I am hoping will win.

yep, I don't really know much about either of these candidates, I'm donating to either one. I want that idiot Reid fired.

I like Lowden , I have seen her on many interviews, she seems to be a good candidate, but whoever wins, they have to beat the Reid.

3 ewwwww Blanche Lincoln did a clinch with a "man" purportedly her "husband" who has less facial hair, and less monobrow than she. He looks timid, as I would be after knowing I would have to go home and suffer her "Victory" celebrations. I can only imagine it involves cuffes and brow-waxing as the moon becomes full

10 Lowden would probably be a better pick against Reid, but she's really gotten off message with the whole "chicken barter for healthcare" thing lately.  That could hurt her.

But Angle has the connection to Scientology with her calling in Hollywood Scientologists to fight against schools giving out anti-depressants to kids.

So I reckon both have some issues.....

Still looking forward to who can pull this out, and on to November to trounce the Dingy one!

her point was IIRC that BuryCare was going to bankrupt the nation to the point we would be using chickens to barter for medical services outside the "joyous wonderful National Health Service" comrade....

if one forgives her for hyperbole and susbstitutes "cash under the table" for "chicken" I find it hard to fault her analysis.

54 Lou, the thing with Nevada is to think strategically.  We want the best possible candidate come November, the one who can win against him, thereby dealing a direct blow to the liberal agenda of Obama/Pelosi/Reid.  THAT IS THE KEY IN NEVADA'S RACE TODAY.

Tarkanian may be a good conservative, but he doesn't have a chance today.  Even if, by some miracle, he wins, he doesn't have the chops against Harry Reid.

Sue Lowden does.  And I think Sharron Angle does too, but Lowden is the best pick.  This race isn't about conservative purity, per se.  It's about dealing a huge blow to the liberal agenda in DC.

57 My wife and I both voted for Angle.  Lowden has run a terrible campaign, and as of the most recent polls, she's the only one who polls behind Reid head to head.  All three candidates have said they'll throw their support to the winner and work together to get Reid out.

59 Initial polling results from California-
San Diego county voter participation just 20% of Los Angeles despite having 1/3 of the registered voters.
Conservative counties turning out higher than liberal ones.

Primaries arent a rocksolid indicator of November performance, but Republicans were happy to turn out today in Cali, even if the overall turnout was abysmal.

Btw- Boxer at just 78% of her own primary vote.

Angle has said she wants to privatize Social Security, get rid of the Department of Education repeal the income tax, so expect to get beaten over the head with how she's 'too radical.'  Dingy Harry has a trillion dollars so I've prepared myself for not being able to watch commercial TV until mid November sometime.  The depth of loathing for Reid in this state is being underestimated, I believe, in the national press.  He's always been able to count on his union goons, but with our economy in a shambles and 14.2% unemployment rate that support may waver more than in past years.

Please note: Angle is pretty much flat broke, so she's going to need buckets of cash from out of state.  You can figure that the SEIU will spend its bailout billions to keep their man in power.

I don't know about repealing the income tax (I would guess it's with a national sales tax instead) but I'm for extreme simplification, flattening out, and heavy restrictions placed on Congress' ability to raise it (along with disallowing anyone to give welfare checks just because they're called 'tax credits').  As to the other two issues, It's about time someone could state them and push them, as they are clearly in line with the Constitution, as regards the federal government.

98 yeah NV has re-elected Reid too many goddamn times, but remember, Reid has done about 90% of his douchebag things since he was last elected in 2004 - i.e., "the war is lost", holding up Bush appointments purely over partisanship, pushing through ObamaCare, tacitly approving of the Cornhusker Kickback and the Louisiana Purchase - so Reid has never been in such a high-profile position before and this is the year for him to fall

Meg Whitman
Carley Fiorina
Sharron Angle (probably)
Nikki Haley

All are very strategic positions.  Governor of two states - one, the huge west coast semi-socialist hellhole:  the other, the one that sets the stage for GOP presidential primaries.  And two very, very important pick-ups for the GOP in November.

Go XXers!  Heh!

Just saw a poll.. 51% of Ca residents are FOR the AZ law.

If the only minorities in CA who vote are legal, US citizens then Fiorina and Whitman won't have a problem.  Thanks to Clinton's Motor Voter and every other shitty election law Dems have implemented to make it easier to steal elections, it will be tougher.  Doable, but tougher.

Oh, and Juan Williams is a partisan hack.

112 Can I just step in here to say that I think Carly Fiorina genuinely earned her win, and her stripes in the GOP, so to speak tonight?

She's always been more acceptably conservative than DeVore's myrmidon supporters made her out to be (word up to Redstate's own Will Folks, Erick Erickson!). And her strategy was much smarter than anyone gave her credit for at the time.

Remember how we all were laughing at "Demon Sheep?"  How it was proof that Fiorina and her team had hopelessly lost the plot, and were now just embarrassing themselves against Campbell.  But even in the immediate mockery, people were pointing out that it was mesmerizing, and that they were watching the whole ten minute ad and coming away with more negative knowledge about Campbell's record.  I remember because I saw the comments from morons here at AoSHQ.

It was always obvious to me that what we were seeing with Demon Sheep was the beginning of a classic 'outsider' weirdo attention-grabbing ad campaign, and then...bam.  The Boxer Blimp!  Don't even lie -- that shit was awesome, with the Robert Davi narration and the awesome image of her head inflating and going down in eventual flames.

At that point it was clear that her ad guys were classic California gonzo geniuses.  This is a state that is used to some serious off-the-wallness in their campaigns -- they elected "Governor Moonbeam" and actor Ron Reagan and Arnold friggin' Schwarzenegger, for god's sake.  And this stuff worked.  What did Tom Campbell in, eventually?  The realization by the electorate that his supposed "fiscally conservative" credentials weren't convincing enough.  How did that impression sink in?  Yup, Demon Sheep!

Sorry, I've been wanting to get this off my chest for awhile.  I spend a lot of time observing politics, so it's worth pointing out an underestimated one in Fiorina's.  She can beat Boxer in November.  Amazingly.

NO.
If you aren't an IDIOT and waste your vote on a dunce like Poizner, heres how it would breaks down if this was 2014:
Brown won 400,000
Whitman 310,000
Poizner 135,000
some other d 90,000
The TOP TWO vote grabbers are whitman and brown, thus THOSE and only those are your choices in november.
thats what happens with an open primary.

It decimates third parties, and forces Libertarians to pick a side now- GOP or Dem.

Posted by: TexasJew at June 08, 2010 08:42 PM (yNsuH)

123 Oh, and I hope people realize just how fucking awesome Blanche Lincoln's victory is for us tonight.  First off, she's a grievously wounded incumbent now: it's terribly significant that she barely survived a challenge from the left, because that mean that disgruntled pro-HCR lefties will stay at home while more right-leaning Democrats and independents will simply vote for the Real Republican, as they Do Every Time.  She is roadkill.  She may not even get 40% of the vote, given an optimistic turnout model, in November.

Second reason: the Democratic establishment just pwn3d its own Daily Kos activist base.  Halter was the insurgent darling of the national nutroots, this year's Ned Lamont.  Those ridiculous DKos/R2000 polls (which you SHOULD NEVER TRUST) raised their hopes so high, higher than ours in PA-12, and it is so fucking delicious to watch their chosen "People Power!" candidate die right on the finish line.  For maximum bitterness of hard feelings between the base and the establishment candidate.

I wanna dip my balls in it.

It also looks pretty anti-Constitutional, violating the spirit of the Constitution.  Of course, the federal Constituton has no say over states' decisions on how their internal elections run, but political parties aren't Constitutional entities at the federal level for a very good reason.  That is much of what gives the US its basic individualistic structure.  For California to have the state involved in the details of the parties' nominations - to the point of selecting the nominees for them - is just nuts.  Of course, California has drifted closer and closer to a true, whim of the masses democracy with every year.  It's fairly pathetic and un-American in just about every sense ... and this sort of idiocy is what you get.

It decimates third parties, and forces Libertarians to pick a side now- GOP or Dem.

It would defeat the purpose of primaries.  It's manifestly stupid.  It's like Louisiana, except even stupider.  Somebody could win 51% of the vote in the primary and then lose the "runoff" in November.

I actually think that Republicans will make out OK.  They'll be forced to get behind one candidate early because only one Republican candidate would have any reasonable chance of making the runoff.

But the Dems, with their registration advantage, will scramble for that runoff slot.  They have a huge advantage now, I don't know why they'd want to screw that up.

in state politics damn near everything....

I defer to your knowledge of NV no joke I have traveled a bunch and stayed in many places long-term that ain't one of them champ but unless I miss my guess Reid should have been using his "star power" to influence the state to his liking....it is how it works in Ohio, LA, SC, and Georgia so is NV different?

Reid is hiding.

It has nothing to do with a knowledge of NV politics. It's just simple a fact that contested primaries at the top of tickets will always out draw an uncontested primary headed ticket.

Look at PA a few weeks ago. The Specter-Sestak race had a lot more voters than than Toomey in a walk (even though there was a gubernatorial primary on the Republican side).

178 Listen up Ace,
Knock off the Eeyore bullshit over Angle. Just your wang picks a candidate doesn't mean you know fuckall about NV politics, so let me just put you some fuckin schooling.

1) NO ONE CAN BEAT HARRY REID! Why? because he's the incumbent, Senate Majority Leader, and one of the most powerful politicians on the face of this planet. Therefore, it doesn't matter who the republican nominee is...hell, it can be a Ficus tree (See Michael Moore in his better days) or the Pope, and it wouldn't matter. Neither could possibly beat Harry Reid. And its for damn certain Sue Lowden couldn't beat Harry Reid, and Sharon Angle won't beat him either.

2) ONLY HARRY REID CAN BEAT HARRY REID! Regardless of who his opponent is, Reid is the only person who can defeat Reid in November. And right now, he's doing a pretty damn good job of beating himself, and there is no way in hell the man comes back from a less than 20% approval rating in the next four months. NO. FUCKING. WAY.

3) IT'S A MIDTERM! And while Reid may have been given a pass by the MFM over his racist remarks, he sure as shit pissed off the African American community (sizeable in Vegas). There is no Obama for Reid to ride on, even if the Chairman decides to come out to Vegas (a city he has pissed off royally) and campaign for Reid (think President Thin-skin has forgiven Harry for the racism?), it will only hurt. ACORN in Vegas is in still under criminal investigation and other activist organizations who were affiliated with them are being watched under a microscope. There is zero enthusiasm among blacks, and Reid needs them to carry Clark County (there and Washoe are the only place he'll garner any votes. The rest of Nevada either sits it out, or votes Angle).

4) NEVADA IS A RED STATE that went blue for the first time in its history when Obama won. Conservatives are most displeased about this. The Right is fired up out here. the Left isn't.

5) CHICKS WILL BEAT DICKS OUT WEST. The political tide is flowing female out here. Believe me, with a lot of former Californians now residing in Nevada, and all of them watching Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina with keen interest, the broad momentum (pun intended) will spill over into the Silver State.

6) ON THE OTHER SIDE, ARIZONA. Reid has been stone silent about Arizona's immigration law, mostly because there is overwhelming support for it here in NV, even among Democrats. Reid comes out against, he loses the white dems. For, and he loses the hispanic vote. He can't talk about it, and it's hurting him one way or the other.

7) ANGLE'S CAMPAIGN WILL/SHOULD HAVE TWO THEMES: "Racism and Sedition". In Northern Nevada, where more than 80% of the residents have family or friends in the military, Reid's comments about the Surge being a failure and the Iraq War lost will fire up the hatred against him. In the Southern part of the state, his racist remarks will cost him a hell of a lot of votes. Angle would do well to have to commercials reminding the voters here of those two aspects of Reid's Career.

REID IS USELESS. Despite his powerful position, he's been too busy posing as a Tom Daschle wannabe to actually bring any substantial funds to the state of Nevada. In fact, for the last four years, we've gotten less money than a lot of states who contribute less taxes. In addition, he shut down Yucca Mountain, the nuclear waste dump site in Southern NV, eliminating hundreds of jobs in a state where unemployment is at 14%, and also eliminating billions in government funding. Nevada no longer feels the need to have Harry Reid in office and will take anyone as a replacement...

...which is why it was so important that the more conservative Angle win over the Centrist Lowden (who, as it turns out, hates the ta Party).

Here endeth the lesson.

Posted by: g (Nevada Resident since '88) at June 08, 2010 09:14 PM (UnJC2)

179 @171 Nothing electorally conservative will ever happen again in Clownifornia, anymore than Greece will wake up and realize "Oh my fucking Zeus, we can't afford a tenth of what we spend!" LEAN GOP- IL,PA
LIKELY GOP-ND,DE,IN,AR
I have us at +6 if I have to pin down my tossups- We lose Ohio and Florida, win ND,DE,IN,AR,IL,PA,CO,CA.
Reid wins slightly. Murray wins slightly.
All that needs to shift is Angle holding onto her current tiny lead, hold OH/FL, push Rossi over, and we have 51 seats.

Or as Erick Erickson would scream, we sold ourselves out! Fucking Rinos! GAH!

Blow me. The myopic obsession over short-term election prospects is as much to blame for the Republican Party's pitiful state as anything else. It was the long-line of awful Republicans that put us into the position of losing to a no-name like Obama in the first place (and gave us its prototype, RomneyCare).

That awful open primary that just passed makes her HAVE to pick a side now in future elections.
Shes a big social liberal except on immigration, a fiscal conservative and big on defense.
Her best friend is a flaming gay latino who works with her at Starbucks and has been cooing over Fiorina and Whitman, and just ranting and railing against Brown, Boxer and Obama since 2008.
I heard her chanting "if its Brown, flush it down" at work...so I think her conversion is complete.

Well, it is popular. I am hopeful for this state with who won tonight. For some reason both have a following in the gay community- particularly Meg.
Being that they already got DADT on the way to being overturned, and Prop 8 is already being challenged... there is no reason for them to vote anymore for Democrats- their words.

Oh wow, the electoral votes! Of course. The same argument they use to allow naturalized Americans to maintain other citizenships when, in the very beginning of the oath of citizenship, naturalizing Americans must say:

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;"

or the argument they offer to claim that dual/multiple citizens can be 'natural born citizens' and eligible for the Presidency.

281 Angle will be arguing Reid is out of touch and of Washington these days, not Nevada.  Reid will be arguing over Angle's more controversial positions against government.  Just two years ago that argument would have made Reid a cinch, but that was then and this is now, and government is increasingly being viewed as the "epic fail" it mostly has been.

Then there is Reid's approval ratings.  He will try to salvage his campaign by pointing out he is Senate Majority Leader with seniority and can use that to steer goodies to Nevada - but Angle can point out that he can't rise any higher, and his tenure has brought 14% unemployment and a real estate market disaster to the state, so what are they losing with that?

Depending upon what Reid has to try to push through this year for Obama before the Republicans gain seats in the fall, he could make this a fairly close race, or he could lose badly.  No likely scenario shows him winning.

283 California Dems made it pretty much a clean sweep for incompetence, in addition to the already-anointed Jerry (gack!) Brown and Babs Boxer they've nominated the San Francisco Twins, Gavin Newsom for Lt Gov and Kamala Harris for AG.

I've got some sympathy for Newsom; he's mayor of a city where the real power is in the hands of a Board of Supervisors whose members include some of the weirdest creatures exhibited to the public since the days of PT Barnum.

But Harris is an amazing choice; as SF District Attorney her office has been pretty much a laughingstock.

292 Yes, Sharon Angle won.  The Tea Party Express candidate won. In fact, it seems that Tea Party candidates were winning all over the primaries yesterday and the Republicans backed by the national Party were not winning.

It seems that all that talk of the "Tea Party falling in favor" was a might premature.  Expect to see a lot of "Angle was Reid's desired candidate" and "Lowden would have done better against him" now.

It seems that the eyeores who really hate real conservative candidates are losing and the press is doing their normal thing trying to chose the Republican candidate for us.

Glad to see someone else get out of that den of vicious inbred insanity.  The Little Red Footballs crew are out of their fuckin' minds.  I went over there and sure enough, they're whoring for sure-loser Christine O'Donnell.

Delaware's as practically-guaranteed a pickup as we have outside of North Dakota.  There literally is no one else besides Castle who has a chance of winning the seat; he's such a lock that even Beau Biden finally decided "nah".  And LRF wants to just piss that away, to endanger the rest of us just so their precious little principles can be satisfied.

Erick Erickson and his gang of sycophantic fucknuts are the angriest and most worthless assholes I've ever seen in the conservative blogosphere.  They're our version of the Daily Kos.  If megalomaniacal shitheads like that grab the reins of conservatism, and Lord knows Erickson's doing his damnedest to position himself as some kind of power broker (one who happens to damage the GOP candidates in every race he touches), we really can expect November to be a disappointment.

298 "She better not screw this up."

Yes. And progressive Republican neoconservatives had better not screw this up against her, as well. If they can't have the ticket, scuttle mentality has been the Republican insider trading card, protecting their own Washingtonian interests from being exposed. That includes smart asses who never really wanted to identify with any Tea Party agenda, smugly categorizing the entire public revolt against authoritarianism as foolishly hopeless. There are those who would rather cat call from the peanut gallery, considering themselves too smart or too sophisticated to support some upstart conservative middle aged woman politician who just won't accept her place in life behind the scenes.

It boils down to uniting behind this Tea Party candidate on HER conservative platform and effectively rebutting inevitable editorials propagandizing sabotage.

Time to embrace Constitutional Conservatism if indeed you want any degree of Marxism rescinded from our governance, or at least to drag heels against the advancing Socialist power base that indeed speeds our nation's ruin to cataclysm. It's the economy, stupid only scratches that bloated surface. Constitutional Rights and the integrity of citizenship and secure borders matter.

Only accepting allies who are your own clone is no way to defeat the mega-socialists in American politics. 333 I have never got anyone to define "extreme".

From her campaign mailer:

"Cut back 5% for 5 years on all unconstitutional departments and agencies, excluding our Social Security and Medicare contract with Seniors" (note that she called SS and Medicare unconstitutional).

"Audit the Federal Reserve"

"Abolish the IRS tax code [...] and replace it with a flat tax."

"Liquidate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and replace them with private sector institutions that perform comparable functions"

"Defund unconstitutional programs, departments and positions like Obama's czars"

"Keynesian economics has been shown time and again not to work, and belongs on the scrapheap of history's useless theories"

This is mild. I can't find the mailer she sent me in her primary campaign against Raggio but at the time it struck me as very black helicopterish.

Of course I agree with all of the above, and with the mailer I can't find.

"Sad but true"? That schizoid would endorse dhimmitude via lack of resistance assent is sad but true.  But his assent to dhimmitude hardly legitimizes authoritarianism.

"Convinced everyone" as in EVERYONE? Hardly. "Everyone" in the circle of Marxist apologists, indeed, are convinced that authoritarianism is their best bet to abusing power without impediment. But why lend credence to their illusion "that EVERYONE is convinced" that the Constitution and its supporters are "dangerous wackos"? To assent such an erroneous position places one within the progressive element supporting Obama-Holder-Napolitano authoritarianism as if their success is inevitable. Don't forget that UNALIENABLE RIGHTS do exist so long as individuals and groups unite to protect them along with the responsibility and integrity of CITIZENSHIP with national borders secured. And it is the conservatives who unite as one, e pluribus unum. Whereas, anti-constitutionalists are divisive, and perhaps united in the thought that THEIR particular Verein Bund will peak the globalist power pyramid.

E pluribus unum. There are yet the MANY abused but essential conservative citizens who are NOT giving up Constitutional governance simply to 'get along' with progressively violent authoritarian federal Socialists and their dhimmiwit lackeys and the truly bitter clinging titty babies who refuse to become self sufficient and participate in productivity.

Whether or not people feel religious, people with a brain and memory absolutely identify with the phrase,   I was blind, but now I see. The concept of self realization has been around for eons, an essential epiphany referenced since the Garden of Eden story/myth of creative existence (in the Joseph Campbell sense of Myth as ancient truth's archetype from ages of recurring experience). Native American animist legends, Hindu gods, Buddha and Jesus represent creative realizations.

What our American Founding Fathers amalgamated, the balance of Classical Reason with Revolutionary Liberty within our American democratic REPUBLIC, exists. No reason to abandon truth because someone says to move on, nothing to see here.

342 @347 I disagree. Nancy and Barack both hate Reid, the political activist groups in your neck of the woods are under intense scrutiny by the authorities, and Reid's approval numbers are an insurmountable obstacle. Naw, you're not any Marxist whatchmacallit- you're just a clear-headed soul who realizes that at least 52% of the electorate are a bunch of drooling couch potatoes who will believe anything Oprah Winfrey or the MFM tell them and that that fact compels good candidates, like Ms. Angle, who have said or done things that the MFM can easily spin against them to take swift action to contain any potential damage to their campaigns.
