New Democratic Immigration Plan: Lie About What They Want
— DrewM

Well, they always lied when they said 'comprehensive reform' wasn't amnesty but now they are taking it to a whole new level.

Long pilloried for being soft on illegal immigration, top Democratic officials have concluded thereÂ’s only one way they can hope to pass a comprehensive immigration bill:

Talk more like Republicans.

...The 12 million people who unlawfully reside the country? Call them “illegal immigrants,” not “undocumented workers,” the pollsters say.

Strip out the empathy, too. Democrats used to offer immigrants “an earned path to citizenship” so hardworking people trying to support their families could “come out of the shadows.” To voters, that sounded like a gift, the operatives concluded.

Now, Democrats emphasize that it’s “unacceptable” to allow 12 million people to live in America illegally and that the government must “require” them to register and “get right with the law.” That means three things: “Obey our laws, learn our language and pay our taxes” — or face deportation.

...President Barack Obama uses the buzzwords. So does the congressional leadership. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), author of the Democratic immigration plan, scolds advocates who refer to illegal immigrants as “undocumented workers.”

Same policy, just a different bit of wrapping on it.

This is just another example of how liberals are so damn sure they have the right policy positions, voters are just to damn dumb to know it. If the idiots want tough talk and strong enforcement policies? The liberals will give them tough talk. Strong enforcement polices? No, not so much. They've got a base to motivate and illegals to convert into new voters.

Making their sales pitch a wee bit more difficult is the death of the talking point that 'enforcement only' doesn't work.

Arizona's tough new immigration enforcement law is fueling an exodus of Hispanics from the state seven weeks before it goes into effect, according to officials and residents in the state.

Though no one has precise figures, reports from school officials, businesses and individuals indicate worried Hispanics — both legal and illegal — are leaving the state in anticipation of the law, which will go into effect July 29.

Schools in Hispanic areas report unusual drops in enrollment. The Balsz Elementary School District is 75% Hispanic, and within a month of the law's passage, the parents of 70 students pulled them out of school, said District Superintendent Jeffrey Smith. The district lost seven students over the same one-month period last year, and parents tell Smith the Arizona law is the reason for leaving.

"They're leaving to another state where they feel more welcome," he said.

Imagine what might happen if there were no states where illegal aliens felt welcome. It isn't hard to do. Especially when a CBS News poll says 69% of people nationwide say Arizona's law is either 'just right' or 'doesn't go far enough'.

Given the mood of the country right now, Democrats aren't going to get much mileage out of their new lies. There's no chance that Congress will take up a bill before the elections. Each side has the issue on the radar and that's enough politically for both.

Thanks to Gabe for the Arizona story.

John "Finish The Dang'd Fence" McCain emails to say, "I've personally packed up and driven 30,000 illegals to the California border. You're welcome".

5 The difference in enrollment in my local public elementary between 2002 (when we bought our house and did our school research) and last year when we actually tried to use the school was UNBELIEVABLE. And the entirety of that increase was Spanish-speaking, to be frank. They had to keep adding trailers on, and are now begging for a 6000 square foot addition. In Pennsylvania. I cannot imagine the impact that early-Aughts illegal immigration had on places closer to the border (altho we had a very welcoming business environment, with mushroom farms, construction and the like).

7 I rather doubt that legal immigrants are deserting Arizona out of fear, especially where they concede "no one has precise figures."  Rather that's probably where the narrative is headed once the law takes effect. Brace yourselves for nightly exposes about thousands of legal immigrants being rousted for being brown.

9 Twelve million? Are they fucking nuts? Not only are they math challenged but apparently they do not drive thru California. Do democrats get out much or do they sit in their living rooms, sipping wine, and talk about us idiot serfs and the next line of shit they are going to tell us?

In the gazillion articles I have read, not one of them has a figure as low as twelve million illegal aliens. Like all numbers proffered forth by the government, CPI, GDP, foreclosures and unemployment...why am I surprised that they minimized this number as well?

11 The liberals will give them tough talk. Strong enforcement polices? No, not so much. They've got a base to motivate and illegals to convert into new voters.

Hell, Mr. I'm the only one who can beat Hillary used the same tactics and that failed because there were a lot of people who can actually read a bill and tell what it does.

The Republican RINOs touted all the new border controls and the "punishments in that bill. When the bill was actually read it was easy to tell all the "punishments and controls" were virtually impossible to implement and therefore would never be implemented.

IOW, it was just like the last bill with all the border controls that were never enforced.  It was amnesty-II and the people rose up on their hind legs and shot it down.

I expect the same thing to happen to any bill they write now. The thing is, their latest tactic is to write 50 bills all saying something different, combine them in committee at the last minute, pass it without reading it, and let the people know how bad they are screwed after the fact.

I doubt if they will try anything on the immigration score this year anyway.  Like gun control, it has been proven to be a sure loser with the voters.

Posted by: Vic at June 10, 2010 12:04 PM (6taRI)

12 Obama has to push immigration reform(amnesty) because he'll need the votes for reelection. His problem is that he's screwed the country up so much that it probably won't happen this year and if he loses significant votes in the House and Senate, come November,  it won't happen the rest of his 1st term. His only hope™ is for the economy to rebound. Unfortunately for him, he's clueless on economics.

18 I really really resent the CBS coverage saying Arizona is having an exodus of Hispanics.  EVERY SINGLE Hispanic I know in Arizona is happy about this law.

It's an exodus of illegals, smugglers, kidnappers, murderers.  Sure, almost all of the illegals are from Mexico, but that's irrelevant.

Arizona is a great place for a Hispanic to live if they are, like me, from a legal immigrant family.

Follow the money, biatches!

"Between 1995 and 2003, the official tally of Mexicans has climbed 56 percent, and median weekly wage has increased by 10 percent," the researchers found. "Yet total remittances jumped 199 percent over the same period. Even considering the declining costs of money transfers, the growth of remittances remains astounding."

Bear Stearns estimated over 20,000,000 in 2005. Assuming the previously documented rate of illegal entry of 4,000,000 a year, with about half that number staying, you wind up with between 25,000,000 to 30,000,000 illegals TODAY.

Huh.

I live in Tucson and I'm not getting that sense at all.  Construction, specifically, new housing construction was a huge part of southern AZ's economy for quite a while.

Needless to say, that sector has kind of shit the bed the last few years.  I imagine that has far more to do with people leaving this state than anything.

As far as "reports" from school officials, pfft!

It'd be wiser to pay Joran Van Der Sloot an extra $50,000 to get the skinny on what really happened at the Taca Hotel, a plane ticket to Atlantic City and wait and see how that plays out.

Have to post this every time the left calls for “reform”.

Yes we need immigration reform, but NOT what has been rolled out the last half dozen times. Every bill that has come out since the first major rewrite in 1965 has basically been amnesty and open invitation for illegals to flood across the border.

We are no longer the country of the 19th century with vast open areas in the West. Our cities are overcrowded shit holes run by corrupt communist hacks AND there is no longer a vast area open for the inhabitants to flee to and take up farming.

This is not to mention that we have entire towns in CA with a population > 20,000 in which none of the citizens speak English.  The current crew of "immigrants" do not appear to desire to assimilate and the current crowd of liberals do not think they should. The schools have gone from teaching America as a mixing pot to America as a salad bowl where "diversity" is celebrated and heritage counts for all, unless you have a European heritage then you are a racist.

Yes, there are a lot of things that need to be done to "fix" our immigration laws.  The first one of these should be to repeal that POS of Amnesty Round I that got us where we are today.

We need immigration law that does the following AND that is enforced:

1. Eliminate the BS anchor baby interpretation by providing a definition of what the term “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” means, which is not dashing across the border to deliver a baby.  Personally, I would require that at least one of the parents of any child born in the U.S. be a citizen before that child was eligible for “birthright” citizenship. If not, then the child would have to undergo naturalization.
2. Provide a reliable means for employers to check the status of employees.
3. Provide severe punishments for knowingly hiring illegals (or reckless disregard). That punishment should include jail time for repeat violations.
4. Eliminate ALL benefits for illegals including schools for children.
5. Rewrite legal immigration to allow in immigrants with a desirable education and/or skill set and arrange the waiting list to have the most skilled/educated at the top of the list. (Australian system) Also include a check for communicable diseases (as we did in the past) and provide for immunization. Immigrants from countries on the list of terror support need not apply.
6. For groups that already have large populations in the U.S. who have not assimilated, reduce the allowable numbers until they do (eliminate whole towns that do not speak English)
7. Provide severe penalties for mules.
8. Provide the death penalty for people involved in sex slavery.
9. Eliminate all forms of asylum. That system has been abused to the point of making it a joke. Any true case that needs to be let in should be a case by case special act passed by congress. Get them on record.
10. Immigrants who become involved in any serious crime prior to becoming a citizen should be deported back to their home country.
11. Absolutely no dual citizenship allowed.

"Throw another shrimp on the barbie!" Canada's system would be fine, where there is a checklist of criteria not just "All doctors and millionaires welcome!" Because first, terrorists will game that system. Second, you want your citizens to strive for high-earning jobs, otherwise you have Germany, where the young collect unemployment, and the economy stagnates.

70 I think the thing about immigration is that America loves immigrants, just on their terms, ie, you need to come here legally and according to the quotas.  It doesn't matter from whence you come....it does matter the way in which you do it.

Honestly, though, the mexican illegals are behaving like a bunch of entitled brats and a lot of people are beginning to dislike them as a group.  The most vocal group, angry at this bunch are the Mexicans who came here legally.  Geez they are worse than reformed smokers and give you an earful even if you don't want it....and they are very patriotic and hard working.

Now, Democrats emphasize that it’s “unacceptable” to allow 12 million people to live in America illegally and that the government must “require” them to register and “get right with the law.” That means three things: “Obey our laws, learn our language and pay our taxes” — or face deportation.

The rubber will meet the road when we watch the US Conference of Bishops backtracking to maintain formation with their political allies. They ignored ever bit of graft, dishonesty and chicanery in Obamacare, and gave only some opposition to the abortion provisions. Both before and after this, they have been touting 'comprehensive immigration law reform'. They have also been pushing heavily the undocumented immigrant crap. Here in the Diocese of Wilmington, the political barrage has been incessant for years.

Wonder where that might be.

1. New Mexico?  Likely many are going there.  New Mexico really has no issues with "illegals".

2. Utah?  Utah is actually pretty soft on illegals.  The LDS church likes to get them into the church in exchange for benefits (private church benefits) such as things like the Relief Society can provide.

3. California?  Not likely.  California is already up to its eyeballs in illegals.  All the cheap housing is taken and there must be 100 guys in front of every Home Depot already looking for day labor.

4. Someplace where it is cold during the winter.  Midwestern and Eastern states love the illegals.

104 Vic's suggestions at @58 were far more comprehensive than mine but he is spot on.

I would submit that not only do we have an illegal immigration problem but profound dysfunction in our legal immigration policy which only serves to generate and exacerbate illegal immigration problems.

Two suggestions:

A.) No more chain migration.  The only family members given priority are spouse and kids.  Period.

Can't bear to leave your aged parents in the care of your shiftless siblings in your fucked up home country? Then don't. Stay there and take care of them.  Your choice.  Will it make you sad to permanently leave your family?  Yes it will, as it should but setting up a new American family in the US has historically been a big draw for certain types.

(Do you ever wonder why it takes so long to "wait in line"?  A big part of this has to do with the 30 or so "relations" of naturalized citizens who "have a right" to legally immigrate to the US and clog up the system claiming that "right".)

B.) No more birth-right citizenship.  At least one of the parents must be a legal resident (note, I'm not even saying citizen) and that child must have spent at least 10 of his first 15 years living in the U.S..  Dual citizenship for these kids is obviously, right out.  Is Jr. an American or a Turk?  You decide.

118 Renee Sharp, the California director in the Washington-based Environmental Functioning Group, cheap wholesale also said she hoped the law would dissuade buyers from buying relatively great radiation mobile phones until their impact about the human system is fully understood. The advocacy group provided reports along with other counsel to the city's Department from the Environment as they developed the policy. "We're also hoping it'll spur greater debate about whether or not the existing federal standards are adequate or not," Sharp explained. "We undoubtedly do not feel that folks are not likely to buy mobile mobile phones because of radiation." Industry officials would not speculate for the impact to their business, cheap cell phones but many of the nation's most favorite cellular mobile phones have comparatively substantial SAR levels. It is mainly because a lot of those well-known mobile phones are wise phones, which have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth receivers, at the same time as fundamental cellular capability, that add to their total SAR rating, according to Walls. Below the law, greater chains can have to place SAR notices commencing in February, whilst other shops could have till 2012. Though the supervisors have been largely unanimous, reaction outside of City Hall and across the country was mixed.
