Permanant tax cuts spur investing money.

Temporary tax cuts tend not to be used for investing, but instead to pay off debts.

My fear is that we keep the taxes low, but only for two years.  People and businesses then know that in two years, taxes may go back up.  So their is less incentive to invest, and more to just retire debt.

Now, if this happens, and the economy and employment stays down in the dumps, in two years Obama will be able to say "Hey, I tried the repulicans plan.  I lowered taxes.  It didn't do any good.  So, for the good of the economy, we must let the tax cuts expire."

Payroll taxes are cut, albeit slightly and very temporarily.  But you're right in that this is not what people refer to when they say "tax cuts".

You missed the payroll tax cut, that we've talked about exhaustively here at the HQ. Yes, it's a tax cut on the existing (long existing 6% employee tax). An honest-to-god tax cut is part of the bill, though it is temporary. I wrote quite a bit about how, even as a temporary tax cut, this is win for us here. You know why this bill, or a bill extending only the taxes for the so-called middle class was not brought up before the November election?   Because it could not pass.   Did not have the votes.   I'm sure most of you know why that was.  Because the Dems knew it would not fly with the electorate.

You are correct.   Not extending the rates for the so-called wealthy (how is $250K a year considered wealthy?) was factored into their little deathcare bill, and many other bills to reduce the cost.   They know what the hell they've done.   It is already hard enough to hide, but if they can't factor in those hikes for revenue it will be smacking people in the face within the next few months.   Right around the time to start campaigning for the next election.

96 Won't Harry bring back the DREAM act as soon as he has a budget passed?  Shouldn't stopping this be front and center on the concerns of conservaties for this week, even more than taxes, which we could probably recover from later on, unlike DREAM if it's passed?  How did it not even bear mentioning for this week's list of drama items?

Ah, but they can't.  Revenue bills start in the House and Pelosi won't let the GOP propose anything.

Even in January, a clean bill won't escape the Senate.

The IRS sends out it's 2011 forms on December 17. This bill will pass by Wednesday or Thursday. Bubba only had to twists few arms to get there, and he's still got the pull to do that.

The Bernie caucus will sing the dying gasp from the Left. A few cons will do a little of the same, but any real resistance over. Polling after the fact will show  heavy support from the public.

Tell me where I'm wrong. I'm not commenting on whether the deal is 'good enough' or not since that doesn't matter now.

They CAN write and submit a bill, its just up to the Majority leader if it makes it to the floor.

BUT, like the healthcare bill, where the Meme was they HAD no alternative (even though not true).

By PUBLISHING their clean bill (FROM THE HOUSE, where it should be started), they can then compare it to the Crap the Dems are pushing.

However, without writing the Bill themselves FIRST, they can't do that.

As of yet, NO ONE has a Bill... its being written in backrooms by a bunch of staffers....

110 Republicans should point out that the Dems have already reneged on Obama's "compromise" and kill the bill until January. Sorry but I see no upside at all for a bill larded up with massive new spending proposals and "green economy" tax breaks. This is not what we voted for a month or so ago. And it does not bode well for the future Republican House that it gets rolled into spending/green bs so easily. This is just more of the same. Very disappointing, although I'll stand up and salute if they block DADT repeal and the DREAM Act.
