NFL Open Thread UPDATED
— DrewM

Final week of the season.

Strangely the two biggest games are Baltimore v. Oakland and the Jets and Bengals. If the Ravens and Jets win they are in the playoffs. If one or both lose, I think there's a scenario where Ace of Spades HQ makes the AFC playoffs.

UPDATE [DaveinTexas]: The Raven's Willis McGahee demonstrates the proper use of the stiff arm.

Just sayin'...

3 Has anyone worked out the scenario whereby the Washington Redskins make the playoffs? They need some things to break just so, I believe. Other than Dan Snyder selling the team, that is. Cordially...

4 I think Mike Singletary looks like he could walk right back onto the field and sack whomever he wants, whenever he wants.

It's probably because they just want to be able to discover a strikingly simular Elizibethian Spot. That, or it may be a way to get back at the Jug-Eared-Marxist for the non-playable DVD gift set fiasco.

22 Wes Welker just went down with a knee injury, trying to make a cut to evade Houston safety Bernard Pollard.  Strangely, Pollard was the guy who last year knocked Tom Brady out for the year last year with a knee injury.

The Pats should pay Pollard not to play next year.

In the last few months of the season, there's a swing schedule on the Sunday night game.  The Bengals/Jets game is probably the most important game for playoff purposes so that's being moved to tonight.

Ha! I miss the good ol' days when coaches were actually coaches and didn't have to  take shit from the players. I contend that if coaches showed their pimp hand every once in a while, collegiate and professional sports would have a much better caliber of player. Instead we get Allen Iverson choking his coach and the coach acting like a little bitch.

61 The kicker for the Houston Texans has missed two field goals and an extra point. Tom Brady is still in the game and the Patriots are up by a touchdown. I wish the Indy Colts went for it last week, like the Patsies are today. What the Indy coach did last week was unfair to the players and the fans. I hope that bone-headed move costs them in the playoffs. Karma is a bitch.

75 Go AOSHQ Morons for the AFC East! Bengals can win this one tonight. No really, they can. Now whether or not the Cardiac Cats can win before the 5:00 mark in the 4th quarter is something to contend... I don't see why the Colts' coach is taking the heat. The Colts have their decision locked down solid, right? Why risk having the big guys clobbered and screw over the big chance so early? A win over the Jets would not equal Manning getting a broken leg. Besides, the second raters need some play time too, might as well give it to them some time before a disaster makes their participation mandatory.

Rarely does a pro team in any sport have a chance at history and immortality. The Colts had that chance and it was taken from the players by a coaching decision. I bet every player on the Colts and every Colt's fan wanted to try for a perfect season. I am a Patriots fan and I wanted them to go for it. If the Colts win the super bowl, then you are right, they made the right decision. If the Colts do not win the super bowl, this will go down in history as one of the worst coaching decisions of any sport of all time.

If the Colts do not win the super bowl, this will go down in history as one of the worst coaching decisions of any sport of all time.

It's 2005/6 all over again.  Colts gave the starters the last two games off, then they had a bye, and they played like shit and lost their playoff game.

If you don't want to win, you shouldn't be in football.  You should be teaching preschool, or working for the Obama adminstration.

Give me a break and focus on the game.

Posted by: The buffet table at January 03, 2010 01:52 PM (Fbdn3)

114 @ 120 Don't worry Andy -- Wade's defense tends to get a bit lazy with big leads, and if you can't slow down our offense, Ginger Garrett has a bad habit of doing that too (just look at the end of the N.O. game).

Posted by: little evil at January 03, 2010 01:54 PM (YzI/K)

115
We gave Wade a Wii Rock Star headset today. Right now, we are pumping in a continious loop of Van Halen

That explains a whole lot about his sideline demeanor.

116 Strange how Leinart is turning out to be a lemon and Young is showing great potential.

Until he has another freakout.

117 BTW, which team uniform is she wearing?

Posted by: jmflynny at January 03, 2010 02:01 PM (nk69j)

118 Roy Williams...oh, he is whatever lead singer Van Halen has today, Wade has no clue. Neither does Roy.

Hahaha. Roy Williams is a WRINO (wide reciever in name only).

Posted by: little evil at January 03, 2010 02:01 PM (YzI/K)

119 Still rather have Roy doing nothing than "He Who Shall Not Be Named" being an a-hole.

120 Roy Williams is a WRINO (wide reciever in name only).

Heh, so true.

121 Philly is clearly saving everything for next week.

122 When does Philly start resting guys?
They're getting dinged up out there.

123 Did the Texans grab a wildcard spot?

YOU need to post more.

I caught the end of that.  Don't really want to think about it.

126 @ 142

Thank you. I appreciate that. I'm still pretty new around here, and really only near a computer cuz I feel like shit and am stuck at home.

Posted by: little evil at January 03, 2010 02:12 PM (YzI/K)

127 145 But, if Williams doesn't suck, do you have the emergence of Miles Austin? As I tell the kids all the times, every action has a reaction, and the law of unintended consequences can either be a blessing or a bitch.

Good point. If this next year is uncapped can't we just dump Roy and not worry about the implications? Plus Ogletree is waiting in the wings, and has shown some promise.

Posted by: little evil at January 03, 2010 02:15 PM (YzI/K)

128 Getting rid of "He Who Shall Not Be Named" gave the other guys a chance to show there stuff as well.  They just play a much better team game than they have the past few seasons.

Posted by: Shannow at January 03, 2010 02:16 PM (LJcef)

129 Ah, so the wisdom of the Colts' coaching regarding the undefeated season will be defined by the end result? I can understand that judgement from the fans. Perhaps a Super Bowl ring forgives many sins? Of course, if thee is no Super Bowl, then the fans will never let the coach live it down, right?

Witten just put a nice block down for Barber.

I started Knowshon Moreno and Jamaal Charles and they are both kicking ass for me today - 14.5 points back with a whole lot of football left.

Posted by: Dang Straights at January 03, 2010 02:23 PM (XqYb4)

132 @ 151 Well, whatever the happens with the cap, at the end of the year I say we treat him just like he treats one of Romo's passes -- drop his ass.

And it looks like Felix has his burst back!!! 24- 0.

Last year we got embarrassed in Philly, this is awesome payback!

133

Jeez, Texans owner has already said Kubiak will be back next year.  Another season of no better than 9-7.

134 Hmmm...

137 When do the 'Boys start pulling starters?

Posted by: Shannow at January 03, 2010 02:47 PM (LJcef)

138 They should have started five minutes ago.

ouch.

Posted by: tony romo at January 03, 2010 02:51 PM (PD1tk)

139 163 When do the 'Boys start pulling starters?

HOLY F@%!#& why is Romo still out there?!?

And kinda related, why was doing the holding for Suisham? They tried him as a change-up for Folk, but Folk's gone. Don't need our QB breaking a finger or something crazy while doing that.

Posted by: little evil at January 03, 2010 02:57 PM (YzI/K)

140 This has to be Craytons biggest game of the year.  Nice to go into the playoffs hitting on all cylinders for once.

Posted by: Shannow at January 03, 2010 03:00 PM (LJcef)

141
You kinda get the feeling Troy Aikman isn't the bigger Jerrah Jones fan in the world?

Posted by: Dang Straights at January 03, 2010 03:01 PM (XqYb4)

142 @ 167

Crayton has these occasional flashes of brilliance, he can shine as a #3 / slot guy.

For the playoffs it should be Austin, Crayton, Ogletree. Williams should never see the field (unless maybe he can actually kick field-goals).

143 Every time I open my big mouth about the Bengals before the game on this thread, they get into trouble. I should refrain from posting until the second quarter.

B is for "Broncos suck."

R is for "Really suck."

O is for "O my, the Broncos suck."

(You get the idea.)
