Nolte: "Machete" Racist, Anti-American Suckpile
— Ace

A movie which explicitly advocates for racial violence.

But remember, it's racist and dangerous to say Obama is a socialist.

Director Rodriguez attempts to disguise his toxic and racist message as something more accessible, the simple fight against DeNiroÂ’s corrupt pol, his slimy aide (Jeff Fahey), and Steven SeagalÂ’s Mexican drug kingpin. But this disguise doesnÂ’t work. SHEÂ’ is not a figure representing the fight for justice against injustice but rather of a coming and necessary revolution against America. Furthermore, when the Alba character stands on the hood of a car to kick off the filmÂ’s incredibly un-exciting and poorly choreographed race war climax, the war she calls for is not to stop violent racists but against an America (or Texas) that, in her delusional mind, is keeping people off land that is rightfully theirs (remember, the border crossed us).

And yet, never once does the movie bother to explain exactly what it is that makes America so special and attractive to those willing to risk their lives to get here. Can’t have that. Nor does anyone suggest that maybe the best place to wage revolution would be, I don’t know, that “personal hell” called Mexico. Can’t have that, either. Not when your protagonists are driven only by seething radical resentments, a misplaced sense of entitlement, and that warm, smug feeling of superiority that comes with assuming the role of the victim. But not victims of their own country, mind you, victims of America.

Hey, no one said hate had to make sense.

3 So this is like a Mexico's Avatar except it was made by pretentious Americans pretending to be high minded poor Mexicans? Is that what they are doing? I don't watch those movies. I'm slow. I still enjoy the symbolisms from the 1950s.

4 Commissioned U.S. Army Officers have become a disgrace to America.

 www.dianawest.net

If evidence in the court martial trial of Lieut. Col. Terry Lakin -- the Bronze-Star-decorated lead flight surgeon who has knowingly triggered his own court martial in his efforts to verify the Constitutional eligibility of President Obama -- might be an "embarrassment" to President Obama, the presiding judge Army Col. Denise R. Lind has in effect ruled, then there just won't be any evidence in the court martial trial of LTC Terry Lakin.

Is this really America 2010, or have we taken a time-warped detour to 1930s Soviet Union?

Prosecutorial misconduct, no evidence for the defense -- what next for LTC Lakin?

Nothing good if the public, mostly cowed into acquiescence by a babyish fear of being mocked as a bad name (“birther”) remains silent. Fortunately, senior military men such as retired three-star  General Tom McInerney are starting to speak out on Lakin's behalf.

After all, all we're talking about here is just asking the president to show a little i.d.

5 This could never be anything but bad. It's a great premise but there is no way to execute such a film today and make it work. If you killed all the white people in America you wouldn't end up with a prosperous Mexican America. You'd just make the hell that is Mexico bigger. Most of what little properity there is in Mexico is due to American companies, that is white people mostly, investing there and building there. If Machete really wanted to save Mexicans he would lead a revolution in Mexico to get them to petition to become the 51st state.

For the record, I believe in the American melting pot. My wife was born in Mexico, English is her second language, and she didn’t become an American citizen until she was in her twenties. For that reason, and others, my family is more racially diverse than the bus passengers in “Speed.” So I guess that what I’m really trying to say is, fuck you Robert Rodriguez.

21 Classic La Raza bullshit.  I oversaw a plant down in Texas where the guys runnin' it were 98% Mexican; supervisors, laborers everyone.  Almost to a man they were hardworking, good-natured family men- and very entrepreneurial.  Great guys, and I was proud to have many of them as friends.  Every once in a while we'd get a "The Race" type who would try and stir up shit in the break room, usually to the derisive laughter of the guys.  The best retort I ever heard was when one of our maintenance guys told one particular activist wannabe, "if Texas was under the control of people like you, the rest of us would be trying to get across the Red river".  The dude was speechless, and never came back after his shift ended.

28 I saw it last night in a San Antonio theater with some lib friends. It was pretty uncomfortable to sit through as the race component was prevalent through the movie. Of course no distinction was ever made between immigration and illegal immigration. From a fun over the top violent movie, it was worth watching. I've never thought Rodriguez's movies were great works, but I see them just on account of him being from the hometown, and having gone to high school with his sister. So yeah, I'd say it's got a repugnant underlying philosophy, but I might watch it again just for fun.

We teach them to take their patriotism at second-hand; to shout with the largest crowd without examining into the right or wrong of the matter, exactly as boys under monarchies are taught and have always been taught. We teach them to regard as traitors, and hold in aversion and contempt, such as do not shout with the crowd, and so here in our democracy we are cheering a thing which of all things is most foreign to it and out of place, the delivery of our political conscience into somebody elseÂ’s keeping. This is patriotism on the Russian plan.
- Mark Twain

In times of change, the Patriot is a scarce man; brave, hated and scorned. If his cause succeeds, however, the timid will join him, for then it costs nothing to be a Patriot.
- Mark Twain

Each of you, for himself, by himself and on his own responsibility, must speak. And it is a solemn and weighty responsibility, and not lightly to be flung aside at the bullying of pulpit, press, government, or the empty catchphrases of politicians. Each must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, and which course is patriotic and which isnÂ’t. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide against your convictions is to be an unqualified and inexcusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let man the sheeple label you as they may. If you alone of all the nation shall decide one way, and that way be the right way according to your convictions of the right, you have done your duty by yourself and by your country.
- Mark Twain

This all but literally makes my blood boil. I now feel ashamed that I was ever in the U.S. Army. Bad enough that we have anti-troop (ROE) and pro-Islam Generals like Petraeus and Casey and now this treachery. If LTC Lakin can not present this evidence he is being denied any and all defense. It is nothing but a Kangaroo Court. This judge has elevated Obama to having the divine right of kings not to be embarrassed. Herr Obama’s possible embarrassment, which implies that Lakin may be on to something, is placed above this man probably getting a dishonorable discharge and possibly serving years in prison. The fix and the verdict is already in. Like the Red Queen from Alice and Wonderland, “Verdict first, evidence later”. Except even worse as it evidence, never.

This Army judge is violating her very oath of office. And all Army officers who remain silent at this Kangaroo Court outrage are arguably in violation of theirs.

“I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.” (DA Form 71)

The above seems to have been replaced with this!

I swear by Adolf Hitler Barack Hussein Obama this sacred oath that I shall render unconditional obedience to Barack Hussein Obama, the Supreme Ruler of the ACORN Reich, supreme commander of the armed forces, Divine Ruler of all that he surveys and that I shall at all times be ready, as a subservient soldier, to sell my honor and soul to keep him from any possible embarrassment.” (Emanuel Rahm Form 666)

7:10 pm, Pacific time.  That's when I'm watching this thing.  Hope I'm not pissed off when I leave the theatre.

I do have a concern about this movie.  The first, "fake" trailor showed machette as some day laborer, who was convinced to assassinate some U.S. senator.

OK, I can dig that.  Some billy badass.  Kinda like the guy from that "desperado" clip.  A genuine bad guy, but a theatrical one.

But then in a real trailor Robert Rodriquez put out later, it turns out Machette is an ex-Federale.  OK, I can dig it.  Ex-cop goes rogue/bad.  Cool.

But then there's a clip with Jessica Alba, who I guess is a U.S. cop.  And Machette somehow gets the drop on her, but he gives her back her gun after they talk.  And she says "big deal, you didn't give it back to me loaded. And Machette says "yeah, I did, because we both carry or carried the badge."

And I'm like, "what the fuck?"  Is he a bad guy or not?  If he's a bad guy, killing the senator is understandable.  If he's a good guy, how can he be killing the senator?

At this point, I started to get seriously worried about this film.

Anyway, I'm seeing it in two hours.  Because of Danny Trejo's past work.

54 Rodriguez has only made one and a half good movies: El Mariachi and about half of From Dusk Til Dawn. If it weren't for Tarantino's pushing him, he'd be working the paint counter at a local Home Depot. This La Raza bullshit has been around since the 1970's, though. There was a bunch of drive-in splatter-films back then that had basically the same premise, and Mexican gangster movies have made this kind of thing a staple. Even Cormac McCarthy's No Country For Old Men is far off (though I like that movie a great deal). The thing is: even American latinos don't really believe the La Raza stuff. They know as well as anyone else that Mexico is a shit-hole; that's why everyone wants to come here. They don't want to turn America into Mexico, even the fulminating Chicano firebrands. It's a kind of performance-art, not a real political issue.

72 Monty-

Did you read "No Country.."?   McCarthy was lamenting the basic breakdown in manners and respect that ultimately lead to the total disregard for convention, the rule of law, and human life.  Not that the movie could flesh out completely what CM was driving at.

Of course I could be wrong; there are sites dedicated to dissecting McCarthy lorded over by professors of lit and other elitist bullshitters, and some of them disagree.  But them some of them saw the same conservative vale streak in the work and were rather discomfited by that realization.

122 Hell to me it sounds like Rodriguez has just made a derivative "victim bites his tormentor on the ass" movie. Most of the blaxploitation flicks of the sixties had the same theme-  "The Man" is responsible for our woes and we're going to stick it to him (meaning kill whitey as gruesomely as possible). The black gangster never blaming who was selling the dope to the people, it was the Italian gangster who was the wholesaler and the corrupt cops who were his allies.  Even liberal Hollywood's most basic formula is "Big corporation is killing little people for profit, and the hero will make them pay".  To add a little variety, change big corporation to "right wing cabal within the government" and you've covered about 70 percent of what the movie industry generates.

Exactly.  Mexico doesn't have a shitty government as a result of random chance.  For that matter, neither do we.  A lack of a strong, upright culture is what causes it.  Our cultural rot took root in the early 1900s and started to really bloom in the 1960s.  Compare the inner cities of the US today to the same areas in the 1920s/30s.  It's not difficult to see how far we've fallen, and economics are not the reason.

Good point. Personally, I think people that call for others to lose their jobs should be macheted... but that's just me.

1. Dem's firewall is a semantic ruse to worry republicans. It likely consists of either flaming skulls in pudding bowls or a money dump into key states.

2. Obama was born in Hawaii but his father is unknown and Stanley has actually been the one to foist this ruse upon us. She either didn't know who the father was or she wanted it to be the foreign communist instead of the more pedestrian bus driver or something. Dreams of my father would have been bull and the communists taking such an interest in her boy would have been crap.

The only real-world body count in recent memory comparable to the ones in this movie would be the mass murders south of the border - like for example the 75 or so wannabe illegal immigrants killed on a ranch south of the Texas border a  week ago. They were Guatamalans and Salvadoreans I believe - not Mexicans.

28,000 killed in nothern Mexico by drug gangs since 2006.  The world of insane violence in this movie actually exists, but it is being inflicted by Mexicans inside their own borders.

I would guess that the asswipes who made this movie help finance the drug cartels every day by paying large sums of money for white powder they sniff up their noses - for the art, don't you know.

He was listed in a Hawaiian newspaper at the time as being born there.

Did they conspire in 1961 to fake this, knowing of course that he'd one day be President? (If so, why would they bother having him be born in Kenya instead of Hawaii?)

No..more likely her mother who was a bank VP and ran in fairly sophisticated circles was counseled to have the birth announcement placed in the papers in order to try to establish native birth.

HI was a very transient place back then. They even had a law on the books where an individual could get a state birth certificate despite being born outside the country.

Placing the birth notice would help a great deal in any custody battle where her grandson was born to an itinerant polygamist father and her 18 year old girl in Kenya.

The birth announcements were not automatically placed in the papers by the hospital or any governemental organization. It was done by the families.

There is no record of Jug Ears being born in any hospital in HI...yet there are for others born on the same day as his supposed birth.

Why is that?

Posted by: Ace's liver at September 04, 2010 05:25 PM (LtIsn)

183 1.  The movie is a grindhouse splatter flick.  Whatever political elements are involved are highly caricatured and not really worth examining seriously.

2.  See 1.

3.  Okay, so you ignored both 1 and 2.  Prepare to get spoilered.  (not that it matters.  The movie is about tits and explosions and beheadings, not about open borders/amnesty, except to the extent that screenwriters can't avoid shitting in their own soup when they become beholden to an ideology.)

The villains are cardboard cutouts of Snidely Whiplash, except dressed up to vaguely resemble inbred hilljack minutemen who casually shoot pregnant mexicans to avoid having them drop anchor babies in US soil.  Why shoot them instead of just pushing them back across the border?  To show how dastardly they are of course, so when they get their gruesome death later in the film, it's that much more satisfying.  There's no effort to create real people who represent the anti-illegal immigration position, and with good reason.

If the people who opposed illegal immigration made any sense at all, bore even a slight resemblance to realistic human beings, the ideas driving the "good guys" in the film are exposed as making no fucking sense at all, and no amount of willing suspension of disbelief can fix that.

The good guys want illegal immigration legalized, or at least oppose rigid enforcement.  Most of the characters spout off about how it is unjust to enforce it, or speak of fairness -- nice rabble rousing talk, but with no specifics.  Where is the injustice?  The movie is largely silent on why it is unjust to enforce the border.  Coming up with compelling reasons for large political movements is hard.  Putting stunt tits for Lindsey Lohan in a movie is easy.

The only character who even attempts to give a reason why illegals should be allowed to stay says that we shouldn't secure the border because illegals are escaping their own private hell.  Okay, that's something at least.  A strong humanitarian argument for a sanctuary state.

But, if the illegals are coming to America for sanctuary from a violent, chaotic country, wouldn't it make sense for them to want as much enforcement of that border as possible to keep the violence and chaos locked away from them and their families?  So the bad guys who want to secure the border would be doing those already here a grand favor by keeping the violence out, right?  But that means that the bad guys were doing something that would result in a good thing, and we can't have that if we want to get our guignol on later.

So the line about the illegals escaping a private hell is really there as a throwaway.  It's a paean to a reason for why the bad guys are bad and the good guys are good.  The fact that it's a paper thin reason holding up an elephant of faulty logic isn't meant to be taken seriously, because, did I mention Lindsey Lohan stunt tits?

And the grand political message of the movie is, "Support amnesty for illegals, because otherwise they will come and shoot you in the fucking face with a machine gun on a motorcycle, and doesn't that sound awesome?"

4.  That said, the movie is fun and silly and has some really great moments.  The political stuff is bullshit and distracting, probably fatally so if you're not into really good gore and you don't like boobies.  But that's not exactly the predisposition of this audience.  Wait until netflix.

188 Rodriguez perplexes me. The guy SHOULD be a conservative or at least a libertarian, based on his early history. Scratching together every penny, including volunteering to undergo experimental drug testing in order to make the money for your first film? Moxie. The dude loves to make films. LOVES to make films. Watching his DVD extras is almost more fun than watching the films themselves. Personally, I blame Tarantino and Rose McGowan for ruining the man as a filmmaker. He's been trying to out-Tarantino Tarantino is referencing old B-movies for awhile now. As for McGowan, screwing the director on the set of Planet Terror, when his wife is the producer is the height of unprofessional conduct. Nasty episode, broke up his marriage, stopped production on the film for weeks.

Lakin Court Martial.where the army judge said it can not be revealed..

This is fascinating. Why would an army judge and a republican governor (?) both defend his "right" not to show the birth certificate unless there was something on it that would cause some sort of constitutional or foreign crisis OR both of them were "gotten to"  by the chicago machine--which is far more likely.

Wouldn't his naturalization be a matter of public record? 3. I doubt that at this point - seeing he is already IN office - that he would be turned out of office over the issue. If he wre born outside the US, he would not be a citizen. The law states that the mother would have had to have lived in the US for 10 years...five of those after the age of 14 prior to the bith. She was only 18

would not be able to get a US passport, EVER, without being naturalized. Hadn't he traveled outside the US before becoming President? Wouldn't his naturalization be a matter of public record?

Not true. He could have gotten a passport per this 1982 law

Hawaii state law (Hawaii Revised Statutes S. 338-17. allows children who are born outside Hawaii to obtain valid Hawaiian birth certificates, depending on the residency of their parents. This law isn't restricted to those born in the other 49 states; a child could be born in a foreign country and still get a valid HI birth certificate.

Which leads to only one logical conclusion:

Barack Obama and Stanley Ann Dunham are actually sisters.

THERE IS A LAW ON THE BOOKS IN HI WHERE AN INDIVIDUAL COULD GET A STATE ISSUED BC DESPITE NOT BEING BORN THERE OR EVEN IN THE COUNTRY!!! IT WOULD LIST THE DEATILS OF THE BIRTH.....INCLUDING WHERE

(Hawaii Revised Statutes S. 338-17. allows children who are born outside Hawaii to obtain valid Hawaiian birth certificates, depending on the residency of their parents. This law isn't restricted to those born in the other 49 states; a child could be born in a foreign country and still get a valid HI birth certificate.

336 The projected week end box office is $16 million over the four day week-end. Pathetic.

It seems most of America is not in the mood for an open call to a race war.

Robert Rodriguez, Michelle Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, and Jessica Alba are the most honored, wealthy, famous, and with a rabid (White) fanbase that any group of Mexican-Americans could ask for. White America has made them fabulously wealthy and adored.

This is the movie they made.

So no, I don't buy the melting pot. Assimilation is a myth. It doesn't work. Even Robert Rodriguez will chose La Raza Reconquista race-war stuff over the White guys who made him rich, and famous, and adored him. Ditto Cheech Marin, idol of White stoners, or Jessica Alba, Maxim Magazine mascot, or Michelle Rodriguez, White geek guy tough-girl idol.

What the movie reveals is the mindset of the wealthiest, most adored Latinos in Hollywood. An open call for Reconquista. Or Mexifornia, Amexica, whatever. Throw money, fame, adoration at these folks and this is how they reveal themselves.

As a White guy, I didn't cross the border, the border crossed me. Suddenly I'm in Mexico. Only just a bit nicer than Tijuana. I didn't want to live in Mexico (if I had I'd have moved there). But I'm stuck.

I wonder, if you made a movie about the plight of South Americans breaking into Mexico from their Southern Border, and put out a trailer "You just f***ed with the wrong South American" and included the assasination of a stereotyped Mexican politician how well that would sell in Mexico.

Maybe this will help wake a few (more) people up to that.
