Nomentum: Another Yes to No
— Ace

A Yes to No, that is, unless the abortion language changes, which it most likely will not.

Rep. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., voted for the House Democrats' health care reform legislation last November, but he told the Rochester Sentinel that the abortion language in the Senate bill is not restrictive enough for him.

The Senate’s abortion language is a "fatal flaw," he told the newspaper. "I would not vote for it.” He added that the Senate legislation’s abortion language is opposed by "a significant" number of House Democrats and could kill the bill.

Little by little, Stupak is proving that he was on-the-level when he said his bloc would stand firm and vote against this.

2 It still would have been better to kill this monstrosity in the House when we had the chance. Although for bloggers, it's a godsend of posting material.

3 Will they just admit that there "deadline" for passing this is Nov. 2?

Free Whiplash insurance for 30 million.  It will only cost a trillion a year, but our cuts to medicaid will make it deficit neutral.  Trust us.

Yes, I cannot vote for this bill unless the abortion language is changed.

By the way, my brother-in-law could use a job...

6 So, one more day and still no vote on ObamaCare.  Good.  That means they still don't have the votes.  As much as I want to see the thing killed outright, my next best desire is to see the Democrats continue to yap about it.  More yapping = lower polls for them.

Since they have to pass the exact bill as the Senate, I doubt she can offer anything else and guarantee it.

Yeah, please drag this out as long as possible, Congresscritters. The longer you do, the more public sentiment turns against this bill, as it should.

But on another front, they actually have a bill printed out with the details in it? Last I heard, that wasn't the case.

Someone help me with this.....They can't change the abortion language in the senate bill at this point right? If they are going to do that they have to write a whole new bill. Voting on the senate bill as is does not change any language, so what the hell is stupak even negotiating on?

Does he want a new bill or what? It is physically impossible to change the language of that senate bill at this point, so what is the deal? Is he trying to get a "fix" done later? He has said he would not accept that, so what does he want?

19 I'm beginning to wonder if one of the reasons Obama and Co. chose to immediately re-launch the health care debate after the Brown election had effectively settled it was to forestall the coming campaign electioneering within and without their Party. Now they can't put it off any longer.
As miserable as Obama thinks he's been so far, the next 8 months are gonna be brutal. Distancing oneself from him will become a national sport.

20 I am certain the repubs have the votes for a motion to recommit with instructions for a modest bill. So, Nancy not only has to get plus-one on the bill -- but also stay plus-one if the Minority Leader drops something very appealing on the floor.

Maybe he wants more regular shower pokings and gang tickles?

22 As one of Joe's constituents  I can tell you that while I personally like him (I've met him a few times and he seems like a really nice guy), this change to 'no' looks like a cya maneuver.

I voted for him last election  but that was because of his supposed anti-abortion stance and his supposed fiscal conservative position. Voting for this bill the first time destroyed his credibility as a fiscal hawk and when I heard him defend his 'yes' vote the first time he didn't mention that he was doing it because of the additional abortion language.

A nice guy yes, but the guy I want representing me? at this point I don't know.

Pure bluff.  Empirically she is definitely NOT sure she has them, or she'd simply have scheduled a vote.

I'd hasten to add that Pelosi can't even possibly KNOW whether or not she has the votes because there are a good number of House members on the fence (or allegedly on the fence) waiting to see what the "fix" is going to look like.

Maybe some of these individuals are posturing (that would be the smart position here, I think), but stipulating that there are probably at least a few House members who legitimately ARE waiting to see what a final bill will look like before committing, and with the razor thin margins she probably has, I don't even think its possible for Pelosi to know whether or not she has the votes yet.

Its a good question.

Presuming he's being sincere about his opposition due to abortion funding (and I think he likely is), he's probably just trying not to appear obstructionist.

As Drudge points out, they've been claiming 'end game' for almost a year now.  The longer this drags on, the more damage the Democrat party takes.  So keep dragging, baby.  I hope Hatch is serious about shutting down the Senate if this abomination comes to the floor.

Posted by: Dang Straights at March 10, 2010 11:01 AM (fx8sm)

30 So the take away is...that Senate Democrats destroyed any shot of getting HCR passed with their insistence that abortion must be somehow subsidized with taxpayer monies.

Not that I expect libtards to make that kind of connection...but, still.

Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't.  You cannot shirk this and be a man.  To decide against your conviction is to be an unqualified and excusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let me label you as they may.  ~Mark Twain

32 Bwahahaha:

Monica Conyers has just been sentenced to 37 months in prison. She also received 2 years of supervised probation. Just before sentencing, Conyers screamed "If they have their tapes, I have my tapes too. I taped Rayford, I taped Riddle. You'll be fair to me or I want to withdraw my plea."

She also yelled, "What about my children? They did nothing to cause this. All I did was try to help someone I fired."

34 Hey Drew, Think all these guys would have voted No on the original bill if the Republicans had screwed them on the Stupak Amendment? Think maybe Pelosi could have passed a Stupak-less bill back in November, and thus now had a few more Democrats who'd voted yes the first time, but who didn't give a damn about the Senate Abortion language? Since the Senate is never going to vote to pass the House Bill, the only thing about the House Bill passing that matters is that it put certain people on record as having voted for ObamaCare. Thanks to the Stupak Amendment, 12 - 14 of those "Yes" votes have a solid reason to switch to "No" votes on the Senate bill. All this is due to the Republicans sticking with their principles (and their base), instead of playing the stupid political games you wanted them to play. Ready to admit you were wrong?

Relativity:
Gods idea of posted speed limits.

I wonder if after 80 or so years of fierce debates and experiment after reproducible experiment confirming every portion of relativistic theory, if perhaps the scientific community can come to a consensus, declare the debate on how gravity, light, and energy work to be over, and declare Relativity a Law. It's not like this is complicated like climate science. I want to get started calling people Relativity Deniers.
