— Ace Gabe mentioned him earlier as a possible flip under the heading "It's an Election Year."
Rep. Michael Arcuri (D-NY), a sophomore Dem who had a tougher-than-expected re-election bid in ‘08, has told the Dem caucus he will vote against the bill.
He's actually on the rules committee, and while his change of vote won't stop the bill from proceeding to the floor (Democrats stacked the committee with a 9-4 majority), it is interesting that a Democrat on that committee is voting Nay.
Concern Trolling: I am worrying that in-jeopardy Democrats are being set loose to vote no as each safe liberal in an overwhelmingly blue state is flipped from No to Yes. (Remember, a handful of liberals voted "No" initially, like Dennis Kucinich, because the bill wasn't socialistic enough.)
This is perhaps engineered, as Granny Rictus McBotoxImplants collects Get Out Of Voting Free cards and distributes them among her favorites.

From NRO:
Obama called up Joe Cao, the only Republican to vote for Obamacre. Obama asked Cao to “study” the Senate language on abortion. Cao said he would, but I doubt he’ll flip to yes after saying he was a no if the Catholic bishops oppose the Senate language.

I do like that Dear Leader has canceled his Asia trip, though -- gotta keep reinforcing that perception that He and the rest of the Dems don't give a crap about anything but partisan domestic politics.

Gallup, -2 among adults: 46A, 48D
Rasmussen, -10 among RV: 45A, 55D
Rasmussen, -20 index: 23SA, 43SD
The abyss is at +2. The Ras numbers are now staying steady around these numbers but the shocking thing is Gallup, which is trending downwards. It was -1 for the first time yesterday.

Does that really qualify as concern trolling? What have any Democrats done in the last year (I'll be kind) to make us think they're putting even themselves above the fairytale ideological America-screwing nonsense they're trying to force out of Washington?
The only thing I'll give them is that they didn't pass Cap and Screw in the Senate when they could have, but I think they weren't counting on ObamaCare dragging out and losing their filibuster-proof majority at the same time.

Posted by: Ben at March 18, 2010 01:42 PM (wuv1c)
Pressure. If Nancy has, say, 212 she may figure that others will hear the siren's call of "history" and break down and vote for the thing. The other thing: She has nothing to lose, if this lasts beyond Easter break, the votes won't be there, the Dems want this whole thing forgotten by November and Pelosi's done anyway. She won't be speaker or minority leader.

Nancy has to announce a vote 72 hours in advance. If she doesn't announce it by midnight today EST, we're into Monday at the soonest.
Posted by: arhooley at March 18, 2010 09:50 AM (8iLXV)
couldn't agree more. Which is why this thing still doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. If I were Pelosi (god forbid!) and I was anywhere in the ballpark with my whip count, I'd go ahead and schedule the vote. Delaying it only gets the public more enraged, and the chances for waverers' re-election get slimmer by the minute.
Something weird is going on here.

didn't they make a movie called Donkey Punch in which the plot was a guy donkey punches a girl, kills her, then dumps her body at sea?

If the witch isn't sure she has the votes they won't vote. They can call it off at any time . Right now though it isn't scheduled. It's just a maybe.
Posted by: robtr at March 18, 2010 09:54 AM (fwSHf)
I don't see this at all. Kucinich was standing on principle of wanting a single payer or at a minimum a gov't option. If she had the votes like the first time around he wouldn't have switched. That they need him tells me they are having a VERY difficult time getting the moderates.

I have no idea what's really going on - for all I know this thing is as dead as Dillinger - I pray. But if they want to show that they are the party of "true moderate healthy bipartisan debate", they could have a bunch of Dems come out and show reservations against the bill well before it passes. I'm not saying that's what's happening. But it is certainly plausible, considering that before this thing passed the House and Senate in the first place, we had very similar yes and no games.

I think the more time this goes along, the less likely it is that it's going to pass. I'm still impressed that they have this relentlessness, but they wouldn't need it if they had a good idea.
Posted by: throwaway handle at March 18, 2010 10:06 AM (dUOK+)
Kucinich switched because Odumbass promised him that this bill will lead to universal healthcare down the road. All those that want that will vote for this bill. As soon as this piece of shit passes, they are going to start down that road immediately.
The so-called blue dogs are the only hope we have of defeating this. If we can't defeat it, this fight goes on until we kick everyone of those progressive pieces of shit out of office, or at least put enough of them out that they can't make a difference in any legislation to come. If O & enough of them stay in office past 2013, we will have universal care shortly thereafter.
Gawd...I hate those pricks!
