Norm Coleman Likely To Seek RNC Chair

Usually considered to have some RINOish tendencies, he also has a lot of offsetting sympathy for having lost the ~~election~~ recount to Al Franken.

Is he a good pick? Or still too RINO?

He wouldn't be the favorite, though:

The vote, to be held next month during the RNCÂ’s winter meeting, is a quirky, unpredictable process. But insiders say the heavy favorite in the race is Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, who is backed by Henry Barbour, nephew of Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour.

Here's a little background on Priebus' announcement that he's seeking the job, from last week. The WI GOP has been on a hot streak, and he's got testimonials from incoming Senator Johnson and incoming governor Walker, as well as Paul Ryan.

16 Unless he gets 85 votes (majority of 168 members) on the first ballot, he's done. The thinking is that he wants to influence the race and probably drops out tossing his support (and hopefully those who voted with him) to the candidate of his choosing. There are a couple of candidates, namely Gentry Collins, who have legitimate issues with how the RNC was run in the last cycle. There are also members of the Bush-era Republican establishment who are interested as well. In the end, I think everyone should simply hope for a candidate who shuts up, raises money, and wins elections. Steele didnt raise money, he never shut up, and the GOP won because of the Democrats F---ing up.

Howard Dean had as much to do with the Democratic victories in 2006 and 2008 as Steele did with the Republican victory in 2010.

Let's give the credit/blame where it is due. In 2006 and 2008 the dems one because the republicans were big spenders, the iraq war, and george bush. The Republicans won in 2010 because of healthcare, big spending, and obama.

49 @Soothsayer for RNC Chair not looking to start a fight here, but the money in politics comes from big donors. Find me a big donor tea party person? I'm not disagreeing that whomever is the chairman shouldn't have a profound level of respect for the new grassroots (ie Tea Party) in America, but someone affiliated with said group probably wouldnt work. The main issue with Steele, beyond his inability to fundraise and his media gaffes, was that he didn't know the role of the chairman. Frankly I think the RNC needs someone ready from day one. And I don't care if that person is an "insider". There's nothing wrong with experience, as long as you aren't a selfserving asshole. Mike Duncan was perfect, but the RNC membership wanted someone BOLD And FRESH and BLACK for whatever reason.

The other great moment in Norm Coleman's career was when he made a fool of himself in the Oil-for-Food investigation. I remember in the days leading up to George Galloway's testimony the Power Line guys were all excited about how brilliant former prosecutor Coleman was going to make mincemeat of the commie bastard. Of course, anyone with any sense knew that nothing of the sort would happen because Galloway was not a US citizen and didn't give a shit about any of the proceedings. So he just lied and lied and made a circus of the whole thing and Coleman just had to sit there like a dunce.

So he's gone up against the looney Left twice and had his ass handed to him both times. Don't need that.
