— Ace Funny! Watch the original post -- lambasting Imam Rauf as an extremist -- get changed without notice.
Thanks to JustKarl.
Transparent? An commenter says I'm using this to distract from the bitter internecine warfare in Delaware. Not true! I'm just babysitting and damn is hard to think straight here with kids.
But I have done this sort of thing before. Also, at BlogCon, this did seem to be a topic that would unify everyone after a Delaware fight.
I described Charles Johnson's site as a "Cult of Personality without the Personality," which I thought was pretty on the money.

I think you are very close to the mark but just a bit off. He's too desperate for money to have been bought off. However, he may be on a vendetta against the people he thought would be his mealticket, the people with whom he co-founded Pajamas Media. It also seems that as soon as he learned that Michelle Malkin was about to sell Hot Air for a goodly sum, he made it his mission to derail that deal with the Kilgore Trout N-word gambit (he failed, of course).
Jealousy is a powerful master.

Neither. Johnson's transformation was not abrupt at all - if you think it was, you just missed it.
That was a long time coming.
It began with Vlams Belang. Innoccous enough alone, but long story short: Dudes got a christ complex. His blog and his syncophants went straight to his noggin.
That's when the purging and the shunning and amish backturning started. For Purity's sake. He figgured he WAS the anti-jihad movement. Not even the most prominent online figure in it, or even the most prominent figure period, but IT.
He starts making demands, and when everybody doesn't yield to THE CAUSE PERSONIFIED he starts ostracizing people.
Then, when he goes around telling people who's been 'written out' that they shouldn't talk to or about anymore (in any capacity whatsoever), and they don't listen and keep associating with heretics, he declares them too, to be heretical and out they go.
He's been doing this 'scrub the past' thing for quite some time now. It's not new.
If you catch all the pieces it's a pretty straight foward and linear progression from there to here.
Problem is, dude has a real hard-on for Guilt by Thrice Removed Association fallacies, so things really escalated quickly, and soon enough he had to change even himself to avoid incriminating himself with past associations.
Views he use to hold were too similar to the views espoused by people whom he had written off as unreconstructed racial supremacists because they wouldn't worship his cock.
All in the name of casting out and unmaking everyone and anything in the world that didn't revolve around him, while preserving the dwindling group of blog groupies who did.
It's all about maintaining the delusion of himself as the embodiment of a historically relevant global movement.
WHICH damn movement, doesn't really matter and has gotten lost among the details in the many twists and turns. What does matter is, any who challenge this image must be thoroughly ignored and effectively cease to exist, and whatever remains must then be cobbled back together in whatever way most hastily fills the gaps and (with a bit of suspension of disbelief) avoids obvious contradiction (with itself. Contradiction with the past doesn't count).
Fact of the matter is, while he was a mediocre blog once upon a time, the man has become a fascinating case study in descending mental illness.

What turned me off was the clique aspect of most of the regulars. I distinctly remember a few years ago when two guys got busted on the Mackinac Bridge with a box of disposable cellphones, a couple of the regulars were going on and on about how "I know something, and if it is what I think it is, maybe I shouldn't say it". Then someone else would say "Ohh, yes I know exactly what you mean!" All without ever once disclosing what they were talking about. Pissed me off, just spit it out or call the cops if you have such sensitive, insider info!
Posted by: Carnivore at September 14, 2010 03:53 PM (DyuqI)
He clearly has a screw loose but the mechanisms of his polar opposite brain switch are something that I just don't get.
It's ego. It's about him. He gets to where he gets on these positions because of what started long before he started changing his positions on issues.
Before he began turning left (that did happen rather abruptly, eh?) he sowed all the seeds.
And they've nothing to do with policy of any sort, left or right.
It's all to do with whatever construction has the end result of putting him at the center of his little cult universe over there.
You see, Charles will most likely give you a "I didn't leave it, it left me" argument. And from his point of view, this is correct. He has not changed his views and they are consistent.
WHAT is consistent is key, and what is consistent is they serve his self aggrandizement. Whatever view serves this aggrandizement. That is what he believes.
The rest is details. The important part, upon which consistency must be maintained, is that he is still the same supergreat awesome Messiah.

MY TELEPROMPTER IS DEADLY
Excerpts from the new Inspector Dan Rather Mystery by David Burge
......
I bulldogged the wheel of my Hudson down Topanga Canyon, its whitewalls squealing a noisy complaint as I skidded through its treacherous curves. JohnsonÂ’s Schwinn Black Phantom was fast, but no match for my Hornet straight-8 flathead. I sped alongside and threw my door into the frantically pedaling hophead, and set him flying down an embankment in his green zoot-suit. I slid down and put him in a half-nelson.
“Going somewhere, Charlie?” I asked. “See, I’m looking for a tutor. Somebody who knows something about … ‘Microsoft Word.’”
“Cheese it, fuzz, I know my rights,” he mumbled. I cranked the armlock tighter, and not just for persuasion. Johnson played in several jazz combos and there was a good chance he might be juiced on reefer pills.
“Cut the cute stuff, wise guy! Who is Power Line? Who is Captain Ed? What in the hell is a kern?”
Johnson began laughing uncontrollably. It was obvious he was on narcotics, and he would have to sleep it off before he would talk, and then...
The blunt thud of the blackjack rang in my ears, A sharp pain.
Lights out."
......
The 2010 font in the .gif matches the 2008 font ...
It was the font that got Rather, and now larChes ....
< ... tosses spent cigarette butt on the dark street, walks away ...>

I would hope that if I ever changed an important position
He didn't "change a position" he changed is underlying philosophy of society.....twice.!
CJ went from Liberal to Neo-Con back to Liberal.
I mean did he not understand the premise of structured society and homogeneity contained within liberalism and that caused him switch to Neo-con statist lite? And then suddenly decided that it was a good idea?
I can swallow one major switch in philosophy as someone matures, and actually realizes what it is that they are supporting. But two times in opposite directions? After the first time you realize you are wrong at that level you need to do some real soul searching about what you believe and why. Two switches...That is just someone who still doesn't understand humanity enough to be commenting on current events.

The Reagan years corresponded with my elemantary school years and I distinctly remember that dust-up. That's when I first realized that Democrats were full of shit. I'm not sure that it has been proved that Stalin himself, was not funny.
Okay, sure most of the people that were in any position to say, one way the other, were murdered by him and that is obviously, not funny.
Still, doesn't disprove my theory that Joseph Stalin was a Laff-Riot! in the eyes of those closest to him.
I would probably disagree with their critical taste but any sort of judgment I might render has been made moot many decades before I was even conceived.
Either by a bullet or starvation or an ice-pick.

You obviously do not understand the photographer's art. You're banned too.

C.J.'s idiot minions should be here any second, ready to plant multiple racist statements in the comments, which Chuckie will promptly condemn on LittleGheyFruitcups.
Wow.
The man who revealed Dan Rather as a fraud now spends significant amounts of his time rewriting reality in true Stalinist fashion....
You know he's reading this thread. He's absolutely compulsive about reading what others have to say about him.
Hi, Chuckie!
Offering you a single-digit salute!
