Obama: "A Sorry Band of Men" Carried Out 9/11 Attacks

Churcillian. If they ever get around to detonating an atomic bomb on US soil, he'll up his rhetoric to call them "scamps."

5 If these guys are such a small sorry band of people, why is it we're having so much trouble prosecuting the war against them? Why does it take us 200 or 300 billion dollars a year on top of the normal defense budget, plus a thousand or so casualties a year, to defeat a small band of extremists not supported in the world at large?

this sounds like a line from a Gilbert and Sullivan play.

He was stealing lines from a Hendrix song last week, so it is a possibility, no?

We better win in November 2010 and 2012 and get rid of this fuckwit.

12 Hey Barry, I know your experience interracting with real men is somewhat limited, being a Democrat and all.  But you might want to keep this simple rule in mind when talking about them: Real men don't kill innocents.

"And so the highest honor we can pay those we lost, indeed our greatest weapon in this ongoing war, is to do what our adversaries fear the most — to stay true to who we are, as Americans; to renew our sense of common purpose; to say that we define the character of our country, and we will not let the acts of some small band of murderers who slaughter the innocent and cower in caves distort who we are.”

Translation: I agree with Hendrik Hertzberg.

16 That "sorry band of men" resonates with a later verse from our national anthem.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust":
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

36 ... rooted in a statistical fact: in the ranks of captured and confessed terrorists, engineers and engineering students are significantly overrepresented.

Engineers, the basis of all terror ?

Well, maybe not ...
Gambetta and Hertog found engineers only in right-wing groups — the ones that claim to fight for the pious past of Islamic fundamentalists or the white-supremacy America of the Aryan Nations (founder: Richard Butler, engineer) or the minimal pre-modern U.S. government that Stack and Bedell extolled.Among Communists, anarchists and other groups whose shining ideal lies in the future, the researchers found almost no engineers. Yet these organizations mastered the same technical skills as the right-wingers.

... but of course, the Weathermen (who blew themselves up) probably could have used an engineer.

WASHINGTON – The number of people in the U.S. who are in poverty is on track for a record increase on President Barack Obama's watch, with the ranks of working-age poor approaching 1960s levels that led to the national war on poverty.

Census figures for 2009 — the recession-ravaged first year of the Democrat's presidency — are to be released in the coming week, and demographers expect grim findings.

CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!!

It's unfortunate timing for Obama and his party just seven weeks before important elections when control of Congress is at stake.

Boo fucking hoo. Their policies are costing people their jobs and it sooooo unfortunate according to AP that the Dims will lose an election because of it.

This flaccid prick doesn't speak for me and probably for most of my combat tested friends who were sworn to protect and defend our beloved country.  Obama has denigrated and apologized to the uncivilized Muslim world in an attempt to ingratiate himself to these Islamic heathens.

I detest this abominable bastard with every fiber, and only hope we as a nation can survive the next two years of his reign.  I also trust that level heads will prevail, and no harm comes to either Obama or Congress.  We will take care of Congress in November, and this arrogant son-of-a-bitch in '12.

I'll bet Obama also thinks in his private moments that 9/11 wasn't that big of a deal - what's 3000 Americans in a land of 300 million?, and laments that there's all this attention focused on terrorism when the priority should be on Him trying to reform the country in His unholy image.

Let's all be community organizers or some such bullshit.  That's what 9/11 is about.  Oh, I really dislike that woman.

yes?

Posted by: maverick muse at September 11, 2010 03:34 PM (H+LJc)

What he said was:

"They may seek to spark conflict between different faiths, but as Americans we are not -- and never will be -- at war with Islam. It was not a religion that attacked us that September day -- it was al-Qaeda, a sorry band of men which perverts religion. And just as we condemn intolerance and extremism abroad, so will we stay true to our traditions here at home as a diverse and tolerant nation."

What any rational, decent and courageous leader would have said is:

"They may seek to spark conflict between different faiths, but as Americans we are not -- and never will be -- at war with Islam. It was not a religion that attacked us that September day -- it was al-Qaeda, a sorry band of men which claims that the Islamic religion is a backward, totalitarian, intolerant faith. And just as we condemn intolerance and extremism abroad, so will we demand that every Muslim stand up and declare whether he or she is on the side of al-Qaeda's intolerance and extremism or on the side of modernity and peaceful co-existence.  The latter we will welcome as our neighbors.  The former we will hunt down and destroy."

Q: So does that count as the first question?

Obama: The young lady seems like a perfectly nice person. She's getting her award. What's he doing up there? He's a jackass. Posted by: Gaff at September 11, 2010 03:39 PM (mTB3

Yes, the media does.  A lot of people in the Muslim world don't actually care all that much:

At the time of writing, the ‘pastor' is still determined to pursue his goal although it may be that he will ultimately cave under such heavy national and international pressure. Whether he goes ahead or not is of little concern to me in the same way I wouldn't care if the inmate of a mental institution did something similar.

This preacher man is a person without any real constituency. He has no authority and no importance. Instead of garnering headlines he should be offered psychiatric care to prevent him from harming himself and the people who are gullible enough, ignorant enough or simply hate-filled enough to do his bidding.

My main concern is that Muslims should not allow themselves to be manipulated by the evil machinations of someone they had never even heard of a few weeks ago. Whatever the motive behind the book-burning may be, it was conceived in order to obtain a reaction. This deranged person is basking under the glare of the media and would be thrilled if Muslims turned to retaliatory violence which he would use as an excuse to declare that he was right about Islam after all. I would strongly advise my fellow Muslims to be guided by intelligence rather than emotion and avoid playing right into this devious person's hands.

The worst punishment that could befall this individual is to ignore him when he will very quickly find himself returned to obscurity where he belongs. Protests won't harm him. On the contrary, he will see them as welcome propaganda. We, as Muslims, have made such mistakes before.

The author Salman Rushdie wouldn't have been so well-known or sold so many copies of his anti-Islamic book without the Iranian fatwa against him and Danish cartoons insulting the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) would not have been so widely disseminated if Muslim protestors hadn't ensured they were seen all over the world. It is very disturbing, however, that the German Chancellor Angela Merkel has, last week, seen fit to reward the cartoonist in question with a freedom award.

Do we Muslims really imagine that this irrelevant pipsqueak of a preacher or his sick constituency threatens Islam in any way, shape or form? That's simply ridiculous. The religions adhered to by the Peoples of the Book — Islam, Christianity and Judaism — do not need to be defended from nobodies; they all have the Creator — the same One God — to protect them. I would ask my Muslim brothers and sisters to remember God's words expressed in Surah Al-Hijr (The Rocky Tract) as follows: "It is We who have sent down the Dhikr [the Quran] and surely, We will guard it [from any corruption] (15:9)

Our faith is not so weak that it cannot withstand insult. We must stand above those seeking to harm us and wrap ourselves in the impenetrable suit of armour that our sincere belief has provided us. They may be able to set fire to pages but our Quran can never be defaced or destroyed. Its verses are forever etched on the hearts, minds and souls of the believers Â… and will remain so until the end of time.

Fearing public backlash, Big-O wouldn't go unless Laura Bush showed up.

When Obama took office,  as last year's 9/11 approached he made the public announcement that our 9/11 Day of Remembrance is to be spent by American citizens providing his administration "appropriate" service. It didn't go over well then, and worse ever now given that no one likes or trusts the Obama administration any more. It's past time for Big-O to realize that America WILL NEVER FORGET her lack of patriotism, "for the first time in my adult life I feel proud of my country" for allowing Obama's opportunistic Marxism.

They are not worthy of your remembrance as individuals.  They are only worthy of anonymous condemnation for their evil and the evil of their deeds.  They were only the meat puppets of other evil men and we should treat them as their co-conspirators did: disposable, forgettable, remarkable only for their utter disregard for human life.

The Jewish holiday of Purim celebrates the survival of the Jews of Persia against the murderous plot of the King's vizier.  Although we use his name in the retelling of the story, the tradition is to use a noisemaker and to boo when his name is mentioned, to blot it from modern memory.  We remember him as the author of the evil plot, but we care not to know who he hired to carry it out.

Those benefits have proven to be great, provided you you don't mind taking it up the squeakhole on a regular basis.

Benefit:  Equal opportunity for all strata of society.

Extra benefit:  An affirmative action Marxist president who hates America.

Nah, I believe the term favored by Pravda is "hooligans."

I don't understand why September 11th isn't a national holiday, but I guess our country's history has been geared more toward commemorating victories than sneak attacks (Dec 7th isn't a holiday either, of course).

I will say that it was nice to drive down my street today to run some errands and see several blocks of houses displaying flags on their lawns.  All the flags were the same height and on the same poles, so it looks like someone organized their neighbors.  'Didn't see that sort of thing in the other places we've lived.  Go Beehive State.

As much as I hope for Republican victories in the midterms, I am concern that Mr. Obama has finally hit his stride with this "unity" theme. Additionally, he put many people's fears regarding a pro-Islam slant to bed yesterday with his revelation that he rest "heavily" on his Christian faith. That will certain resonate with Americans of all stripes, particularly those in the " Bible Belt." I am uncomfortable about a sudden shift in power during these tumultuous times. Mohammed kind of grafted Judaism onto the native beliefs of the pagan Arabs of the Arabian Peninsula.  So he told them their Allah was the same as Adonai Elohim, and he told them that the Jews got the story of the Abrahamic sacrifice backward: it was really Ishmael, not Isaac, who Abraham bound for slaughter.

And when the Jews of the Arabian Peninsula told Mohammed to go pound sand, that sort of soured him on all Jews.

219 Knowing their names will make it much easier to mark each anniversary, not only with a sense of loss for all those who suffered, but with a better grasp of just who it is I am cursing to burn in hell.

Their names aren't European or Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Vietnamese. Hell, it used to be hard to remember DinnerJacket's name. Even Obama played peek-a-boo with his middle name in order to fuel another charge for "racism" against Americans. Regardless, we needn't curse terrorists to hell. They've done that already by themselves.

Morally, I think stuiec got it right at September 11, 2010 03:57 PM

There's a horrible consequence to cursing that manages to permeate everyone, not simply the desired target. I pray that God protect us from evil, and do appreciate whatever mysterious way works.

I hope that America prays for our troops and that we do what we can to provide them with a great CinC.  And let's ask for divine guidance and INTERVENTION that Providence protect our Constitutional Republic that is dependent upon citizens' determination to do our part sustaining our Constitution through these damned Marxist bankrupted warring years of fraud and abuse by our federal government and courts.

There's no way we can defeat terrorists if we don't defeat corrupt and cruel oppressive government officials in our own country bent on using wars for their own corrupt purposes, not for national stability to arrive at peace. Let's NATION BUILD ourselves according to our Constitution by cleansing our own government "temples" in the courts, legislatures, and Chief Executive offices. Get rid of the users and abusers here in America before going to preach mob rule "democracy" abroad.  It isn't as if our Constitutional Government has never been done and we'd have to re-invent the wheel.

The trainwreck that is Barack should not be allowed to altogether distract us from the pathetic phoniness that was M'Chelle's address at the Flight 93 Memorial.

Besides the patent insincerity of the delivery, there was this: the concepts of the "collective action" of the passengers, and the "community service" heroism they had exhibited in do-gooder activities in their lives before that day, were woven into the speech throughout.  According to her, they were basically a bunch of statist community activists.

244 If you ask most New Yorkers they don't want the towers to be rebuilt.  They want the entire site to be a national park, a graveyard, a memorial to those who perished.

No one wants to rent office space in two concrete towers there anyway.  No one wants to work there.

It's ridiculous not to call it what it is, a mass grave, and treat it as such.

>"A Sorry Band of Men"...

Now that Democrats finally found (and sensationalized) a Koran-burning "TOWN IDIOT" to be the new "fall-guy" for all future attacks on U.S. soil; this country is officially without National Security.... (In my view)

Until someone comes in and owns recovery of economy, and responsible protection of borders; weÂ’re a Nation without leadership (in my view.)

Should have rebuilt the towers taller.  Additional floors dedicated to the rememberance of the day.  Symbolism that we can never be destroyed and always rise back up.

Posted by: buzzion at September 11, 2010 04:21 PM (oVQFe)

Each one a dozen or so floors taller than the Burj Dubai. Sure, a lot of real estate that would go vacant for a long time, but $700B would have easily covered it... Only problem is the possibility of Manhattan tipping over.

252 I watched a special on History Channel earlier today about an amazing hero.  He was a guy born in England who admired the U.S. military so much, that he joined the U.S. Army and fought in Vietnam.  He became a citizen and worked security for a firm (can't remember the name, sorry) in the South Tower.  He had a constant fear of a terrorist attack on the Towers, and drilled the 2,000 employees of the firm constantly.

When the attack happened, he got nearly everyone out, and went back up to check on any others, just as the tower fell.  His friends said he died the way he would have wanted to.  I bawled like a baby.

253 Obama said yesterday we were going to "celebrate" 9/11 today (O RLY?), and now he's trying to deflect from and minimize the CAUSE of the vast majority of the terrorism we see in the world.

'Cause I'd really, really like to be done with this beetlebrain.

But not to worry. He has 2 more years so he can try to overtake FDR for the title.

He won't need 2 years. Next year being the 10th anniversary of 'religion of peace introduces infidel dogs to the glories of all things mohamedan,' there's a fair chance we'll all get to see a glow-in-the-dark smoking crater somewhere in America come next September.

Our fair Barack will then go out in a blaze of fucked-up-beyond-words glory when he has to respond to the attack. I'm thinking teach-in at the White House followed by humus summit with Imanutjob where he offers to let the mullahs sodomize his secret service agents in return for a promise to 'never do anything like that again.'

Also,

I mentioned this last year, but will do so again.

I was thinking about my nephews and niece. Ages 4,2,1 and 1.

They will live a life not having experienced 9/11.

This occured to me last year on 9/11. I was finally able to understand why my parents could never truly explain how big a deal the moon landing or kennedy assassination were to them. To me it was some clip i saw on the history channel. To them it was an event that triggered feelings, emotions, memories. To me it was sterile, to them it was meaningful.

Now a year later, I wonder how these kids, 8 years and under, are going to learn about 9/11 in schools and how their kids will learn about it.

Dear God.

Tears were streaming down my face at such a rate I was having a hard time reading the words.

He was on the 44th floor.

I've heard repeatedly the story of two men who escaped the towers that day and found on, I believe it was the 44th floor, a security guard that refused to leave an injured man behind. He could have been on of the two of Rescorla's men who died that day.

What an amazing tale of an amazing and heroic man.

Rick Rescorla was a magnificent man. Osama Obama doesn not deserve to live in the same country as a hero like Rick.

I cant believe its been 9 years.

The conservative American public are tired of being told how to think and act. Eye for an eye is on the way. What's that line about justice delayed is justice denied? Does anyone here believe the victims of 9/11 have received justice? Or the victims of violent predators crossing our southern border? 1. The pitch...Derek Jeeter basically tells him don't throw like a pussy in NYC..
2. standing in the ruble with a bullhorn....
3.The cabinet meeting the next day, where he holds back tears..... (cant find video of this anywhere)
4. the memorial service in the Cathedral, when his Bush 41 reaches over to pat him on the arm.

Bush was tough..... Iraq took lots of courage.

Also, former President Bush's statement is on his FB pg:\

On September 11, 2001, Americans awoke to evil on our shores. On this solemn day of remembrance, Laura and I hold the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers. We recall the many acts of heroism on that day, and we honor those who work tirelessly to prevent another attack. May God bless our great country and those who defend her.

Over 34,00 likes & 6,500+ comments. That's incredible for a status. Shows there are many people left who still remember this day & know what it means.

I'm sorry, how did the "Yankees fans" vote in 2004, 2006 and 2008? They can bite me.

I feel bad for the individuals murdered by the islamo-facist assholes. I cannot grasp how these people who saw this destruction and experienced this pain thought that appeasing the perputrators was the answer (as a majority). My mother in law is a new yorker. She voted for Hillary, adored Gore and Kerry, ran down Bush constantly. She, however, began hating Obama when he started beating Hillary and continues to hate him. She changed the stations she watches and the papers she reads and called today to say something nice about Bush. I hope that's happened around the country but I don't know what happened to their brains between Sept 11, 2001 and Nov 2, 2007.

Had this actually happened today....

Obama would be detached as usual. Even more so I suspect. He would advise the networks to avoid using the term 'terrorism'.  Mika B., the dipshit that she is, would actually be reading her blackberry aloud, saying that we shouldn't believe what our eyes are telling us -- it's an FAA error of some sort.

Michelle would be pissed that she had to cancel some trip overseas.

Barry would eventually shit his pants and go catatonic and we'd be left with Biden at the helm.

God help us.

See their warriors' pennants streaming
To this battlefield.
Men of Cornwall stand ye steady;
It cannot be ever said ye

Stand and never yield!

464 The irony is ...

A ranking Saudi diplomat told NBC News that he has asked for political asylum in the United States, saying he fears for his life if he is forced to return to his native country. The diplomat, Ali Ahmad Asseri, the first secretary of the Saudi consulate in Los Angeles, has informed U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials that Saudi officials have refused to renew his diplomatic passport and effectively terminated his job after discovering he was gay and was close friends with a Jewish woman. In a recent letter that he posted on a Saudi website, Asseri angrily criticized his country’s “backwardness” as well as the role of “militant imams” in Saudi society who have “defaced the tolerance of Islam.” Perhaps most provocatively of all, he has threatened to expose what he describes as politically embarrassing information about members of the Saudi royal family living in luxury in the U.S.

... unbelievable.

Obama should send Asseri back to freakin' Saudi with a polite request that he (Asseri) be treated tolerantly.

It'd be awful funny to set down a can of gasoline next to a liberal and then start stacking Korans, and then when they start wetting themselves, say:

"Oh, come on -- it's a Religion of Peace, you said so yourself.  Nothing's gonna happen!"

I remember hearing in the days following the attacks about a fireman and his team who survived the collapse of the North Tower and called in a mayday, only to hear the person on the other end of the radio ask someone "Where is the North Tower?"

Today, watching the History Channel, is the first time since then that I heard the retelling.

Can you imagine?! You walk into a massive, massive skyscraper and, even in the worst of circumstances, assume that the top portion had collapsed, but even then he couldn't concieve that the entire building had collapsed around them.

"Where's the North Tower?"

Unbelievable.

502 Okay...

Anybody here a nutritionist?

What is the quickest way to get OUT of non-diabetic Ketosis?

My engine has always run a bit hot, meaning that I can wolf down pretty much what I want, when I want, with no ill effects.

(Sorry girls.)

Problem is, I lost my damn appetite for food, probably about a year ago and didn't really notice it.  ( I was busy)

I think that I may have been slowly starving myself these past few months.

I'll eat like a banshee would wail,(as much as and wherever she can) when I'm out on a a day full of jobs.

But I haven't had too many weeks like that, this past year.

So, anyway...

I've been taking it easy, this past few weeks, just lying around and trying to get some energy up but I haven't been able.

And, lately, I smell subtly wrong.

That's what finally got me.

It's not the bedding or my clothing or my shampoo, my time of the month, or even that I smoke too much.

Neither Scope nor Tide nor even the mighty Febreeze can vanquish this apparition.

I smell something like nail polish remover, from the inside, from my lungs.

Something is not being metabolized correctly and is throwing off esters.

(I think)

What should I do?

Make Banana Bread, Guacamole?

Saute the thymus glands of baby calves in butter?

Suck the marrow out of an ox bone?

I feel as if I should be able to reverse this unfortunate accident through food, in my own kitchen.

Gotta be cheap though, nowadays.

And I'm cooking for one.

MEXICO CITY – Mexican police carried out the controlled detonation of a car bomb Saturday in the troubled border city of Ciudad Juarez, across from Texas.

A phone tip around midnight led authorities to a dead body in a car in a shopping center parking lot, the federal Public Safety Department said in a statement. In a second car, police found the bomb.

Agents deactivated the device and removed most of the explosive material to analyze it before safely detonating the vehicle, the department said. There were no injuries.

Juarez is the same city where drug traffickers staged the first successful car bombing in Mexico, killing three people in July.

There have been three other vehicle explosions in recent weeks in Ciudad Victoria, capital of the border state of Tamaulipas.

Well, Islam is clearly at war with America and all Western Civilization and enlightenment..

Can anyone even imagine Winston Churchill saying, 'We are not and never will be at war with Naizsm'?

Can anyone even imagine Abraham Lincolnl saying, 'We are not and never will be at war with slavery'?

Can anyone even imagine the local police saying, 'We are not and never will be at war with child rapists and women murderers'?

Of course, we know who's side you are on, Barack Obama, you psychopath. Why do you hate Western Civilization and human rights so? Did you even shed a tear on 9/11? I seriously doubt it. Do you at all feel for women stoned to death by the followers of Mohammad and his Koran? I seriously doubt that too? You are a foul creature who will live in infamy. 563 deety,

I'm sure everyone else has already said this, but ketosis comes from too few calories , and your body starts metabolizing fat from itself. This, of course, ups the ketones in your bloodstream, which makes you smell like paint thinner or bad butter.

You can handle it the same way diabetics do if you want, eat something sugary. People talk simple sugars and complex carbs, but in the end all carbs break down to simple sugars before they are metabolized, and the time is takes to break them down is minimal.

In the long term, eat more, period. Your ability to eat as much as you want without gaining weight after maturity is based less on a higher metabolism than a lower efficient metabolism. It still ain't bad, and I wouldn't mind having that problem.

If you're in ketosis, and you're sure it's not attributable to liver function other than eating habits, eat some bread.   As much as you can handle at one time.   That should take care of it, but make sure you keep enough carbs in your diet.

If, once you've eaten the bread, you still notice the smell an hour or so later, you should consult your doctor.   Just to be sure your liver is functioning properly.   A blood test to check liver enzymes may be necessary.

578 I'm fairly certain you need an uptick in carbs...the lack of carbs is causing your body to make keto acid.  You must not be getting enough fuel from carbs in your diet.

Yeah, I guess that I can see that but I've been eating kind of cheap (read carb and sodium heavy) for longer than I care to admit, this past year.

Is there another option?

I don't think my body is doing pasta as well as it used to.

Oh frickin' scratch that question!

Jaysus!

Asked and answered!

When was the last damned time I ate a baked potato, skin and all?

I'll bet it's been like four years!

(Yeah sure,I've had occasion to but some bakers on, for compan,y to make a superb mash.)

When the hell did I decide that an Idaho was effin "company" food?

Oh, for fuck's sake!

Stupid, stupid, stupid!

I'm not half Chinee!

I'm not half Eyetie!

I'm half Irish, from the midwest!

Who the hell ever put it into my head that I could live on noodles!

Too cheap, too refined.

Back to the most basic of loads of digestible "empty" carbs.

A properly baked potato, with some butter, sour-cream and chives (if you are feeling spendy).

(Thank you Morons for letting me figure out basic shit on your time. 'Preciate it. Apparently, I need the hints.)

580 #619  So should I go to Japan to try to talk my estranged wife into reconciling?

This is a laudable goal.  Myself, I don't think people should "marry easily", but when people do become married, they shouldn't leave unless adultery is involved.

I'd say go for it, but it might help if you explain why you guys are estranged at the moment (if you're comfortable saying so).

Does anyone remember "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman"?  The story arc where Mary gets taken hostage by the mousy little serial killer?  He explains why he killed an entire family by saying the wife had been cooking all day and when the husband finished dinner, he said, "Honey, that was good."

"Here was this overweight, slightly sweaty woman who'd been working on that meal all day long, and all her husband had to say was, 'Honey, that was good.'  You can see why I had to kill them all."

585 Right, because if she left you then she gave up on the marriage so I would just let it go and move on as difficult as that might be. That's a pretty drastic step to do to a kid too--move them a world away from their father. Only way I would do that is in a case of adultery or abuse.

Not all that surprising.  Engineers/scientists tend to be INTJ personality types.  I happen to be very much an INTJ.  As a general statement, we INTJ's tend to take very hardcore approaches to anything we take an interest in - IOW, nothing is done half way, we tend to be detailed planners and "mastermind" types.

All of the INTJ traits that make us the world's engineers/scientists would serve a high/mid level terrorist planners rather well.

--It's hard to say.  His withdrawal from the fray after the Beirut bombing was probably his worst decision from an international relations standpoint.  Sure, he was dealing with the reality of the Soviet Union, but it was still one of the links in a chain of passive responses to terrorist aggression that led to 9/11 and beyond (e.g., Bali).   His response to Qaddafi was a refreshing break from it, but nevertheless in comparison to the blows we have taken since Iran was taken over, it seems pitifully small in retrospect.

That said, I'm sure given the circumstances he would have responded at least as well as W.  It's a shame Alzheimer's robbed him of his faculties and he could not have offered counsel back at the time.

Oh, sorry. You asked about denial. Did you know that there is a portion of the brain whose job is to erase memories that are disturbing? It apparently functions to keep people from facing realities that make them uncomfortable and often results in people deluding themselves that their preconceptions are correct.

Liberalism, of course.  A good many NYers probably thought we deserved it too, because the US is "imperialist" or "racist" or whatever nasty junk term of the week they make up .

It's only a matter of time before it happens again -- probably in the subways.

653 You can handle it the same way diabetics do if you want, eat something sugary.

I think that you may be right Ghost Who Walks.

Thanks for the insight.

I hadn't thought about my metabolism (after maturity) as being less efficient than normal but it makes tons of sense, now that I think about it.

That's why I probably can't handle this the way diabetics do.  (I never even remotely understood the concept of a sugar or caffeine rush.)

Simple sugars have never had much of any detectable immediate effect on me.

The way the leftist self-identified "elite" separate themselves from the lumpenproles is to believe and do the opposite of what common sense demands.  Since the pickup truck-driving Bible-thumpers were certain to blame islam for 9/11, an intellectually-superior elite must therefore ostentatiously embrace islam.  The ability to look beyond the plainly obvious and see "nuance" invisible to those with normally functioning cerebral cortices is the hallmark of leftard pseudo-intellectualism.

This is how stupidity cogeals in the brain of a leftard.

Because not every New Yorker has the guts to be a conservative.  You can see what 9/11 did to all New Yorkers by noting how they reacted to a fly-over by Air Force One in early 2009: they ran for their lives.

So 9/11 made all New Yorkers fearful, and the ones with guts understand that fear is no excuse to appease or submit to the enemy.  The rest protest in favor of the Ground Zero mosque and against Koran burning mainly because they hope against hope that their latest act of appeasement will save their skins.  (Note that Comedy Central is based in New York and is down with the appease the Islamic terrorist tactic -- all the while praising themselves for being bold and brave in taking on The Man and The Powers That Be.)

671 689 How did Sept. 11th, 2001 not turn every person on that island into a conservative? Another factor is that they are the ultimate sheep. they do and think what they think their peers do and think. A lot of this is simply because they are generally busy, and not to smart, so it is unrealistic to expect them to educate themselves on the world outside of midtown. I think most of the people on this blog read and try to understand - those people are different, they just "know." they "know" by listening to "experts." we full well know that the experts are in columbia and harvard and such, and if they are not on the muzzie dole, they are socialist that can find common cause with fellow tyrants. So the people they believe and trust are the wrong people. Not much of an insight, but it holds up as an explanation. Liekwise, when someone like Palin or Beck contradicts this worldview, they automatically scoff since Beck did not go to Harvard, and what intelligent person would admit to being mayor of Wasilla? So their bubble is protected.

676 27 689 How did Sept. 11th, 2001 not turn every person on that island into a conservative? One more point - I worked on wall street a bit and they really are different. They are in a position of unbelievable privilege. You and i know that this is part luck, and part connections, but they have to believe it is because they are smarter. How else can they justify (to themselves and their bosses) their 7, 8 figure salaries? They must be smarter and better. In turn, Joe pickup or sarah palin must be less worthy. they must not know nuttin about nuttin or they would be making 8 figures and be self proclaimed masters of the universe. 683 Liekwise, when someone like Palin or Beck contradicts this worldview, they automatically scoff since Beck did not go to Harvard, and what intelligent person would admit to being mayor of Wasilla?

Many years ago, when I was pretty young, I lived on Manhattan but I, unlike most, came from a fairly large city outside the Northeast.

Even when Times Square was a pest hole, New York was almost awesomely COSMOPOLITAN!  Friggin breathtaking if you stopped to breathe and think about it.

But of course, nobody does...

I'd heard that New Yorkers were inexcusably rude and irrationally belligerent, by nature but I never really saw the stereotype borne out, the time I spent in their tribal lands.

It was true, in those days, that any pedestrian on the street was liable for a vicious random mugging or beating from a stranger.

Nevertheless, I found most of my interactions with the natives with "a sublet" almost touchingly trusting.

They are a gentle and shy people for the most part but very approachable if you can simulate their grooming rituals.

It's quite extraordinary the role that mutual grooming plays in this area.

Were it not an easily explained biological imperative, common to most primates, I would not hesitate to note that it is almost obsessive in this population.

There is of course, the kind of grooming that serves to reinforce familial bands along with threat displays meant to establish dominance and hierarchy.

What is extraordinary though, is not just the opportunistic grooming that a lower caste part of the tribe will do to curry favor in the eyes of a more dominant band, that's to be expected.

They are of course, literally "currying" favor.

The most elite familial bands though, tend not to be able to accept the largely ceremonial groomings that are their due but often suddenly hiss and aggressively turn apon an entire family line and chase off, if not kill the lowest caste and weakest members of the line.

Once aroused, a "silverback" cannot be sated with anything less than the blood of the weakest and smallest.

So long as these ritual blood-lettings occur upon established familiar lines, all of the other bands will hoot with approval.

This of course, further binds all of the disparate familiar bands into one giant tribe.

Posted by: TheGhostWhoWalks at September 11, 2010 08:12 PM (9tt+Z)

687 Deety, I figure your post was in part facetious, but I as an amateur anthropologist in the concrete jungles of Manhattan often see such prominent grooming rituals. I want to offer but one example. One such outward display amongst the bien pensants is the Times tic, i.e. number of sentences that begin with "I read in the Times today that..." and "Yeah, I read that, too" or "The Times had an article about that." The last is especially peculiar because it literally adds nothing informative to the topic under discussion but serves only to send the social signal that A) This is an approved topic for conversation, B) You have arrived at the right conclusion, C) I read about this before you did, D) I am a right-thinking person, too, and E) I knew about this but I sure as hell didn't read it in the Post. This tic, the Times tic, sometimes reaches absurd proportions. I actually had a woman say to me when I was on a conversational roll, "That's so interesting. I wish the Times would do a story on that." What an odd locution. I mean, WTF? How programmed does one have to be even to come up with such a formulation? Another time, a man said to a group of which I was a part, "I read Brooks' article today -- now, mind you I don't usually pay any attention to him -- but today he had an interesting point ..." The defensive parenthetical is so odd -- so obviously a social signal to the tribe that he is not planning on wandering off the reservation. He was on the verge of flop sweat simply because he a was about to posit that David Brooks -- David Brooks! Squishy, squishy David Brooks! -- had kind of a point on some issue. Once you see these patterns, you start to notice them everywhere in Manhattan. Constant social signaling. Constant re-bonding.

688 Well, alright.

But I feel kind of shy.

Yet, I am hesitant...
