Obama Admin Buried Report on Cost of ObamaCare Until After Vote
— Gabriel Malor

Whoa! That report from the Medicare actuaries released last week that concluded ObamaCare would raise premiums? The Obama Administration had it a week before the final vote...and sat on it:

The economic report released last week by Health and Human Services, which indicated that President Barack Obama's health care "reform" law would actually increase the cost of health care and impose higher costs on consumers, had been submitted to the office of HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius more than a week before the Congressional votes on the bill, according to career HHS sources, who added that Sebelius's staff refused to review the document before the vote was taken.

"The reason we were given was that they did not want to influence the vote," says an HHS source. "Which is actually the point of having a review like this, you would think."

Apparently, copies of the report were sent to Sebelius and to the White House.

So in addition to midnight votes and bribes to reluctant Congressmen, the Obama folks sat on government reports, reports that the taxpayers paid for, which would have shined a light on the President's healthcare reform lies. And that's what they were. He can't plead ignorance. His own actuaries were telling him it would raise premiums while he was going on TV and saying the opposite.

15 I am not going to say the obvious thing here. It has become redundant. Whatever flaw in the American psyche allowed this man/group to come in to power needs to be exposed. I am past the point of trying to explain the corruption pouring out of this WHite House. People that are predisposed to like Obama will not entertain the idea that he is not what they thought. It is more comforting to them to believe we are what they thought and he is a good man. We need to see past the facade. Obama's character is the issue. The electorate will not truly pivot until he is exposed. I think the man is dirty but the Republicans don't want to seem a racist in going after him. It is pivotal that he be tied to the Chicago gang. I know the media is complicit in the charade. But he is no Bill Clinton only moving the country gradually to the left.

26 This administration just makes up numbers on the fly, and no thinking human thought a government-run program wasn't going to cost a hell of a lot more than their wildest estimates, so i wonder that any of this matters. I think a bigger concern is what a bunch of worthless whores the legacy media has become -- apologies to any useless whores i may have offended. And they will pick that burbling idiot Huckleberry to be the next GOP presidential candidate, just like they did with McCain. The only bright side to all this is i got so sick of it all i got rid of my cable TV. I miss hockey but i do like not paying the idiot bastards at Comcast $60 a month. 36 "we didn't want to influence the vote"

This is pure madness.  The congress should vote based on any and all influences like this.  voter outrage, studies, opinions, and serious flaws found in analysis.

I hope some democrats are smart enough to run against Obama.  Those who voted for this mess based on lies (obvious lies, but still) can claim they wouldn't have done so if this hadn't been covered up.

This is what the left accused Bush of doing with Iraq: of knowing the truth and covering it up before the AUMF.

37 This comes, btw, after a day in which I had to prepare my lunch across from a co-worker who was on her laptop with an enormous HOPE picture of Toonces on the back of the screen, reminding me to vote for him and Shuriff Joe. While I was trying to EAT. And then I sat down to a stack of student essays, one of which brightly announced that public education is, quote, "free," and another which wanted me to know that socialized medicine is really no different from health care provided to the military. (The costs of which are skyrocketing, by the way, far past the rate of civilian insurance. I made sure to bleed red ink all over that paragraph, and I don't care if the student IS scarred for life for being told that not everything that poops out of her printer is academic gold.)

In fact, the blame will probably be given to a staffer rather than Sebelius. But since both parties work towards the same goal (larger, more powerful, more centrally controlled government), we're basically fucked.

96 If you want to make sure there'll be a sea change in the 2010 general election, you have to change the outcome of the primary elections.  To do that, you've got to get into the real ball game of politics.  It's played at your local GOP committee meeting.  By the precinct committeemen.  (Do you not what a PC is?)  Become one.  Only precinct committeemen get to vote for the leadership of the Party.  Precinct committeemen ARE the Party.  And half these slots, nationwide, are vacant in the Republican Party.  Want a more conservative Republican Party with more conservative leadership?  Then, if you're a conservative, become a PC and get every conservative you know to become one, too.

Now!

Thank you.

A. We used to like Fox's Juan Williams. But the guy has gotten to be a jerk. He now defends Obama's behavior, now matter how sleazy Obama gets.

B. How did bow-tie boy, Tucker Carlsen, get a job on Fox as a fill-in moderator for talk show hosts like Sean Hannity? He is a wussy. He has no control over guests. He has screwy perspectives. He can't articulate his positions, Democrats talk over him, spouting their talking points without any interruptions from a flailing and inept bow-tie boy, who makes dufus points himself. Ever since he was on CNN, he has always been a putz, kind of like Fred Barnes, but worse.

C. Last night on Hannity, Bob Beckel remarked that he used to date a girl, who was in the radical Weather Underground, downplaying the significance of his admission, and trivializing those radicals, and even scoffing at the idea that they were terrorists or radicals. I'm incredulous nearly everytime that I hear Democrats. They're not even rational.

Oh, sure, rabble rousers like morons here do it regularly because tact is somewhat frowned upon; but when do people with "respectable" forums and a megaphone start calling the Precedent out? It's not disrespectful to call a liar a liar. We've known this for many months, yet somehow the likes of Rep. Joe Wilson, one of the few to state the bleeding obvious and a fact, is expected to apologize.

Quit apologizing, America. You need not respect a man who has unearned it. You need not temper the words and lower the bar of expectations because of some unwritten PC rule. Obama is a man and nothing more. Turns out he's not much of one either. But he's a fantastic fraud, so give him his due - proudly and unabashedly.

130

Unbelievable, it gets more unbelievable every day with this crew.

killthehippies makes a good point about the real story being the legacy media's anticipated spike of this lie. Obama has no compunction about lying because he knows he can count on the media to protect him, which is an amazing thing if you think about it.

But it is also important because Obama argued, near the end when this was all coming to a head, that the Obamacare plan was financially sound, would not increase premiums. Due to his and the media's dishonesty, he was able to take potentially fatal flaws in his plan (if the public was aware of the facts), and spin them as strengths of the plan. And it worked.

Someday there will be a saner world where people will look back and shake their heads unbelievingly at all this. Or there will be a world where 2 +2 = 5.

Posted by: Dash Riprock at April 27, 2010 04:31 AM (ewicX)

135 What's maybe the funniest part of this story is how history repeats itself -- sometimes twice! Bush suppressed the same agency's actual report in 2003 on the effects on the budget of the Medicare Part D (and not for a lot longer; it didn't come out until the minority on the House Appropriations Committee refused to agree to vote the next year's budget out of committee unless it was released -- remember how the Dems used it to kickstart the 2004 election with challenge the costs of the "dumb war"?). But the ironic part is the report estimated a cost for the Medicare Part D reform that turned out to be almost twice as high as reality. (I figure at some point there'll be a study come out that re-allocates all that debt Bush left Obama among Bush, Iraq and Congress, and Bush's piece of the pie chart will look like a sliver.) If you actually read the actuarial report -- fun for some, maybe not so much for others -- it's actually consistent with the OMB projection: a 1% rise starting out, steady until Obama leaves then up to 2% through 2019 -- except there the report just stops. So while the OMB projects boldly where no administration has gone before -- yearly numbers through 2029 and decade summaries thereafter -- the actuaries don't go there, because actuaries don't ever go there: history's shown that changes over more than two economic cycles are just too gross to rely on the underlying assumptions as in any predictable. It's correct that the actuaries' report shows higher numbers (of course, implicating higher taxes) than the OMB has forecast -- except it depends which OMB forecast you look at. Orszag cranked out a whole whack (wack?) of them over almost a full year, sometimes just weeks apart, and even then I'd bet not a single one of those will end up reflecting how health care coverage law ends up by the time we get to President Lowden's first term. And of course, if enough of it gets repealed, there's your history repeating itself, twice. Maybe we can look forward to a billboard campaign in 2018 with Obama asking: Miss me yet?

Posted by: Shooter at April 27, 2010 04:33 AM (zfRju)

"His own actuaries were telling him it would raise premiums while he was going on TV and saying the opposite. "

Obama didn't lie. He said premiums would go down 3000%. (video is out there, if you google on "Obama 3000%"). A new word is needed. The word "lie" just doesn't cover it.

Posted by: Phil at April 27, 2010 04:33 AM (cBaCB)

137 This HC debate will be covered on C-Span ... except for all the backroom deals, and government reports will be hidden, and there will be no real debate, this will be strictly partisan.

But this is a big fucking deal, if it can be proven Obama was lying to the public while he had his own report suppressed.

He has of course lied a lot, and must have known this bill would raise costs without the report.  But to bury his own strong evidence, and then to contradict it publicly right before the vote, should be hard for him to dance away from.

Why do i bring this up. Well they essentially change the wording a little bit so they can put up a new poll, as the poll results always end up supporting  the bill, which clearly cnn doesn't lilke.

As evidenced by their non stop coverage of this issue. Sure it needs to be covered, but on every show? and would it kill one of the anchors to read the bill.  all of their questions start off like this, "This bill seems to...."   Well if you actually read it you could say for certain. Or you might notice that parts of it are a word for word copy of federal immigration law.

Besides, you bring this up for public discussion. and the kool aide drinkers immediately start yammering about it being from "faux news" -- which isn't so much a fact based response to you, but an attempt to discredit for the audience's sake (and some of the audience will buy along with it -- because everyone knows that "faux news" is a nazi corporation in league with the evil booosh...the kool aide drinkers did their part admirably this past decade).

#138 Shooter, thanks for reminding everyone that the Bush adminstration did almost exactly the same thing to cram Medicare prescription coverage down our throats. And the House, under that useless fat pig Hastert, engaged in a very Pelosi-like trashing of procedure by keeping the vote open long after time had expired so that W could twist arms to pass that piece of crap.

Don't get me wrong. I have absolutely no regard for the Obama/Pelosi/Reid axis and consider the Obama administration to be the most mendacious and lawless in our history. And that's after just 15 months. In fact, Obama makes Clinton look like an honest man. But this incident just reminds me why I consider myself a conservative and will never consider myself a Republican - even if I vote almost exclusively for Republican candidates. I'm glad that there are people within the party fighting the good fight. But I can't bring myself to do more than vote in the primaries and contribute to select candidates (and never to the party or the committees).

194 Hmm isn't this exactly what Bush was accused of doing with respect to Medicare Part D?

The difference is that Bush was publicly accused.  Obama will never even be accused as far as most people are concerned - they will never hear a peep about it.

Posted by: sherlock at April 27, 2010 06:48 AM (fKPuo)

193 On the link, I found the paragraph under the description of the latest health scare criminality to be interesting:

The irony of President Barack Obama visiting Beckley, West Virginia, Sunday to read a eulogy at the memorial service for those who died in the Upper Big Branch Mine accident, has not been lost on some White House aides. "If we had our way we'd be mourning the mining industry, not miners," says a White House aide. "As an environmental issue, we want the majority of these mining related industries just to go away."

They're still looking to "bankrupt the coal industry" ... "as an environmental issue".  These people ought to be forced to stop using energy and to live in the dark that they are trying to bring to the rest of the civilized world.

Just one more thing for the neo-Pravda media to ignore.  Ignoring real news and making up fake news are the only jobs they perform.  This neo-Pravda puts the old Soviet Pravda to shame with their enthusiasm and unrestrained propaganda.  At least the Soviet Pravda had the excuse that the state was forcing them.  The neo-Pravda do it of their own America-hating, criminal volition.

Posted by: progressoverpeace at April 27, 2010 06:50 AM (N49h9)

194 The press will continue to be the PRAVDA for President Ovomit until we, all of us, start demanding them to do their jobs.  Through writing, phoning, e-mailing, or whatever it takes.  Our biggest enemy of honest, taxpaying Americans are the very people who are suppose to be the "watch dogs" for us.  We should stop whining about jugears, and focus on the real enemy of the state.  The STATE RUN MEDIA are a clear and present danger.  It's sad that so many American "zombies" trust what comes out of the boob tube.  Not reporting on something like this is worse than making up the news.

Posted by: Sparky at April 27, 2010 06:53 AM (r0u40)

195 >That report from the Medicare actuaries released last week that concluded ObamaCare would raise premiums? The Obama Administration had it a week before the final vote...and sat on it:

Wait.

Are you trying to tell me obama pulled a fast one on us?

197 It depresses me that this is utterly non-surprising.  It depresses me even further that our fearless media will say nothing about this, but will indeed go on attacking the Tea Party folks.  Most depressing of all is that these criminals will cheat their way to maintaining power in November.

It surprises me every day I walk past our local NBC affiliate that there are not throngs of tea partiers protesting en masse. Nope. Just biz a usual. Not a peep.

This is the real danger in our society today.  We should have a 24/7 protest against these treasonous bastards. They should be afraid. Very Afraid.

Posted by: Derak at April 27, 2010 07:42 AM (M5Z2q)

200 I think we'd all agree that the MSM is as big a problem as Obama.  The question is: how do citizens wield their power and send them a message to start doing their due diligence and start reporting?

I suggest:
Cancel your cable for a month campaign
Cancel all of your newspaper subscriptions for a month campaign (obviously happening now without a campaign)

Start making executives at the major networks, cable companies, and print news media get a little squirmy about losing revenue because Americans are shutting it off.

We have to start thinking outside of the box with creative ideas to get these sinister fuckers off of their elite asses and back to hardcore journalism.

progressiveoverpeace,

Your right. Obama is going to use this mining incident to make safety rules that will greatly increase the cost of coal. It's the only reason why he is making a big deal about it. Its a back door way of increasing costs to reduce consumption or eliminate actual mining.

I haven't seen one.  The White Man is keeping us out of the Coal Minin' racket!

...and although Barack isn't really a black man, he's as close as we'll get.  So I suport his efforts to Bankrupt Big 'White' Coal.  Return the Coal to its' rightful owners.  My Native American Brothers!

205 Imagine if a week before the vote authorizing the war with Iraq that Pres Bush had a definitive report that Iraq didn't have weapons of mass destruction, and sat on the report until after the vote approving the war was taken? The media would go ballistic wouldn't they? With Barack Obama and HHS this wasn't just about withholding the report which was egregious enough under the circumstances, but the Administration actively peddled the lies that costs and premiums would come down, right to the end of the vote, despite having a report that showed the opposite to be the case. I'm sure glad this is a transparent administration cause if it wasn't then there'd be a whole lot of evildoings and lies going around while the truth lay shackled in the basement of the WH.

Everybody today seems to go to extremes to either drive home their views or suggest that anyone else in the world is wrong. Thank you for your accurate and relevant insights.
