— Gabriel Malor Weeks after word came that the black box data has cleared Toyota in all but a single "sudden acceleration" claim, a retiring NHTSA official says that the agency is sitting on investigation results that would put the hoax claims to rest.
But the Democratic inquisition of GM's competitors continues anyway.
A new report in the WSJ quotes a retiring NHTSA official as saying higher-ups are refusing to release the results of the agency’s staff investigation into charges of Toyota sudden acceleration, because those findings are not unfavorable enough toward the automaker. I’ve got more detail in a new post at Cato at Liberty, and Ted covers the story at PoL.Meanwhile, proponents of a sweeping expansion of federal auto safety law, one that would thrust Washington much more deeply into the operations of the automotive industry, are really in a hurry — a quick, urgent, must-do-now hurry — to pass it, even though many of its provisions have not had much airing in public debate. An editorial today in the New York Times — a newspaper that almost comically underplayed the revelations earlier this month about the NHTSA probe’s pro-Toyota results — flatly asserts that the Japanese automaker’s vehicles suffer “persistent problems of uncontrolled acceleration,” and demands that the sweeping new legislation “be passed into law without delay.” It’s almost as if they are afraid of what might happen if lawmakers pause to take a closer look.
Word is that the report is completed, but being blocked by Transportation Secretary LaHood's office. LaHood's spokesman says "The review remains ongoing." Uh huh.

Even GM knows the first generation Volt is a joke.
They only planned to make 10,000 the first year. But now that they are "profitable for the first time since 2004" (Barack Obama), they will make many more of these "loss leaders".
$41000 apiece, plus the $7000 bollar tax credit, plus the 40 billion or so that the Federal Government has given GM, the new sub-prime lender bank that will doubtless make car loans that won't be repaid, and what we have here is what you may euphemistically call "a bargain".
A few more "bargains" like this and we'll all be broke.

Sorry to say this, but you have indeed insulted dildos. Since they are made overseas by non-union labor, they do indeed work, and when using, will not overload the electrical grid. And they do not cost as much as a Mercedes.
As to why the Gubbermint is pushing the Volt, that's easy. It will be a lemon, and need repairs. And since it is new technology, it will have to be repaired at the dealerships. Dealerships who probably have union mechanics.
And the power companies, are they unionized? Because when the grid starts going down when all the Volts owned by the government (you know a mandate is coming soon) start crashing the grid, the power guys are going to be getting a lot of overtime.
So it's all good.
Except for Toyota.
They are teh evil for being non-union.

Rules for dems are different than rules for republicans and the dems make all the rules. What I never understood is why the republicans allow the dems to make all the rules and don't tell them "screw you, we're making the rules. Steele is a disappointment in this regard"

Some dumb-ass lady called into a local radio show yesterday. (Toyota was the topic) and admitted that she once planted her foot down on the gas and the brake as the same time. and it accelerated! Who knew? She admitted it might have been her fault. She took both feet off the pedals and it stopped. Who knew? Must be a conspiracy.
Stupids and opportunists everywhere are reporting that their Toyotas are mysteriously accelerating. I call bullshit.
Idiots all over America are going to report bad things about Toyota because:
A) There could be money involved. B) they want to help GM/Obama C) People are often idiots who cannot drive, and they feel they are better safe than sorry & so must report something. After all, everyone else is doing it.

What, did dunkin donuts say "no thank you" to the union? So what, the workers for the most part are high school kids, college kids and family members of the individual small business owner. How is "the union" going to benefit them except to take "all that money" out of their paychecks for "union dues"....you know that money that every teacher I know says is "an obscene amount of money that they can't question and they can't decide where it goes". So of course the small business owner and his/her employees want no part of unions.

Toyota was fined 16 million for failing to report sudden acceleration claims in a timely way.
Justice, then, would demand that Lahood be fined 16 million for failing to report the results of this investigation in a timely way.
And while we're at it, the Obama administration should be required to fire 50K people in an arbitrary way in response to their ridiculous treatment of GM and Chrysler Dealers.
And the dealerships owned by Mclarty and other politically connected dealers - who had their competitors eliminated in Missouri and elsewhere - should be forced to sell only the Volt.

Oh yeah. And the comapny that actually makes the battery pack for the Volt is in S. Korea, and the Federal Gov gave them a $1.5 billion loan/grant to make sure that the Volt batteries would be made on time for commercial release. Buy American. Right.

I contract with Toyota on their steel side, (yes, they do a lot more than just cars), and of all the large companies I've worked with, they are the shit. Everyone works their asses off, they actually try to help your business succeed, and their products are top of the line. The only other company that is even close is one in S Korea. The American companies pretty much suck these days. It's terribly depressing. Oh, and I should add, Toyota pays their bills. All of them. On time. None of the American companies do.

Especially since the Indonesian Imbecile is doing that at the same time that he's suing Arizona with a ridiculously laughable "pre-emption" argument.
But, as usual with the left, they are falsely accusing others of doing exactly what they are doing. The Executive branch has the power to enforce residency laws, not to change aliens' status. Only Congressional action can change the status of aliens.
It is noted that the Arizona law changes no ones legal residency status, in any way, whatsoever. It neither grants nor revokes citizenship or legal residency status, nor does Arizona deport anyone.
Either The Precedent is going to be in an orange jumpsuit soon or the US is going to disintegrate. There is no other future if we continue along with this nightmare of third world governance.

Nothing scares liberals more than the idea that they might be isolated with those they use as political tools. It's one thing to try and drain everyone else's wallet to alleviate the illusory guilt of white liberals. It's quite another for white liberals to be forced to live with no one but those they claim they are stealing from everyone to "help".
When the US does split, the old nation (reduced to nothing but the liberal scum and their political tools, essentially) will sink into the abyss in no time, and then those liberals are going to learn what a real nation does to non-citizens who try to force their way over the borders without permission. The new nation will defend its borders with real lead and without apology.

I think it's too late already. We need a return to Constitutionalism which is to say it's a bridge so far removed from what the country understands that a brief interlude from Team Obama's Marxism won't be enough. The Courts, as a backstop, have so misinterpreted the Constitution - the precedents so set in stone - that we will never be able to ratchet back from where we are. There's a Progressive momentum in our political class that cannot be undone. That doesn't mean give up the fight, but it does mean that there needs to be a profound change in this nation's perception of the role of government. Look around you. Do you see a population of people receptive to the needed change (and the needed effort) even if you explain history and what is happening now?
The political class is so different from us that it's irreconcilable, yet incumbency persists because of the gamed system. A corrupted academia, media, and political hierarchy is ensuring that we lose our Liberty. We are getting the government we "deserve." Now, take away our local sports teams or American Idol and then there will be trouble. Bread and circuses.

With GM in deep trouble and hundreds of thousands of jobs in the balance, the Obama administration -- through the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) -- stepped forward with tens of billions of dollars worth of assistance. As of March 31, 2010, the U.S. Treasury had committed approximately $52.4 billion to GM.
Only a fraction of that, $6.7 billion, was in the form of loans. Most of the government's GM investment was converted to an ownership stake in the New GM, the company that emerged from bankruptcy: $2.1 billion in preferred stock; and 60.8 percent of the company's common equity.
Posted by: toby928 at July 31, 2010 10:06 AM (8/oOq)
Aside from the outstanding stock issue, Whitacre's announcement has come under fire from Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who notes that the loans were repaid not with GM earnings (in fact, SEC filings show GM expected to have negative net cash flows in the fourth quarter of 2009) but rather from GM tapping into a multi-billion-dollar TARP-funded escrow account.

Though for personal reasons I would never buy a Toyota, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of their cars -- even the "hideously unsafe" models that have been recalled -- to anyone who wanted safe, well-made, relatively inexpensive, reliable transportation.
Conversely, the majority of GM products suffer from visible cost-cutting, particularly in their interior design and materials use. It has been this way for many years. They build decent, well-engineered cars -- everyone does these days -- but I can't bring myself to recommend them. There are better cars in every class GM plays in (with the sole exception of the Corvette) and so they should be on the bottom of everyone's shopping list.
This whole fuss over Toyota "defects" comes directly from GM Chairman Osama Obama. Since he has no concept of fairness and honesty, his minions in the government and in nationalized companies follow his example. You don't beat your competition by being better; instead, you beat them with every underhanded, illegal and immoral tactic you can dream up.

I had a 2004 trailblazer, within like 8 months the transmission blew apart. Took it in, and they replaced the sun gear and shroud. 6 months later, it failed again, this time taking the entire transmission with it. They refused to honor the warranty because I was "Over towing" with a 2800 pound pop up camper.
Eventually, (after threatening them with a lawyer) I got a credit towards a new Tahoe.
Never again. As soon as the Tahoe has had it, probably going to buy a Tundra.
PS Look up sun gear failure and GM and you will see what I am talking about. Apparently GM thought it would be OK to use 1/8th inch sheet metal stamped gear in the transmission.

But physics has never, not once, stopped a politician from doing something stupid. Or a reporter.

the local Teamsters up here are picketing Dunkin Donuts.
I was driving by this morning and they were standing in front of one of the stores with a sign telling people to boycott Dunkin Donuts.
I snapped and freaked out. Beeping my horn and giving them my finger.
Had a similar experience here in LA. Goof balls picketing a local ARCO station. One guy has a sign that reads "BP is criminal", I yelled out the window, "Obama is a criminal". The guy responds back in a whining tone, "No he isn't, asshole".
I turn to my 14 year old daughter and say, "see, a typical Obama robot". We pulled in the ARCO station to fill up the tank of the SUV.
