Obama At House Republican Retreat
— DrewM

On FNC now.

Right now, Obama is giving a speech but there's going to be a Q&A with House Republicans asking questions. Originally one the speech was supposed to be aired but last night the administration asked to televise the whole thing. Depending on who is asking the questions it could be interesting.

Wow, Obama just said, "I am not an ideologue" in response to why he went with big spending stimulus instead of the House across the board tax cut proposal.

No, Joe Wilson didn't shout out "You Lie!". Awesome self control in the face of that kind of provocation.

I love his "I'm not an ideologue, just a technocrat working with what the experts tell me" shtick. Such horse shit.

I have to admit this will likely play well for him, unless someone can lay a glove on him. He's walking the line between fighting back which will help with the nutroots and appearing post-partisan by showing up which some independents love (some are just fed up with him too). Conservatives obviously will loathe him because, well, it's all the same old crap.

That and the whole lying through his teeth thing as Paul Ryan just pointed out helps.

West Virgina congresswoman now going after Cap and Trade. Prepare to be dazzled by Green Jobs bullshit.

Wow...Jason Chaffetz of Colorado....You know Mr. President you lie. A lot. Done out of sadness not anger. Very well played.

For instance, Yes we can, Mr President. Yes we can lay the loss of jobs in Dec, Jan, and Feb, at your feet. They were the reactions of the economy to the news that you and the Dems and won the election.

73 Just took a question from Paul Ryan re: deficits (e.g. debt went up 84% under his watch, why not freeze spending now, would he support a constitutional line item veto, etc.). Re: the deficit, he said that the increases were automatic and due to the previous administration (classic dodge/denial); can't freeze spending b/c according to every "credible" economist he's consulted, an immediate freeze won't work. Said he would like a LIV, but would prefer spending discretion from Congress (from both sides of the aisle (!)). Ryan corrected him @ the end that his discretionary spending had in fact gone up by 84%. O blew him off and said that they'd have a budget debate later. He obviously doesn't like being corrected, you could see it in his face. So, basically he didn't answer any question and when he did answer he blamed someone else. Wow.

This guy make Clinton look a like a bloody piker

No he doesn't.  Clinton was a relatively deft liar, and would put some effort into making his lies difficult to catch.  Bammy doesn't care enough to put any effort into substantiating his lies.  It's obvious he's lying.  He's just banking that the media won't call him on it, and that his electorate isn't paying attention.

Jan. 29 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama told House Republicans voters are weary of political bickering in Washington and that both parties must work harder to find common ground in issues such as the deficit, jobs and health care.

In other words don't disagree with me and just blindly obey me like the media does.

it doesn't matter what the MSM shows, its what is not tape that can be used on You Tube that counts.  Like it or not some folks will splice his answers out of context (gee, now he'll know what a Republican feels like) and skewer him with the footage.

Hopefully even showing the questions and answers in context will cause him some embarrassment since we all know he handles THAT so well ...

The top of the hour ABC radio spot only played the "Bolshevik" comment, and said he defended himself from contentious questioning. No analysis or mention of what the GOP said whatsoever. Makes the GOP sound obstructionist in a "get with me and succeed" kind of way. No comment about the rejection or the president's policies to date.

I have the feeling this will be the standard image from it in the MSM, but it will be forgotten once the Dems try reconciliation.

We will see how badly the MSM are still in the tank when they report on this.  If its a lot of breathless "Obama got up off the mat and took on his opposition and challenged them to work with him for the country and apple pie and puppies" we are screwed.

Kinda surprised the GOP didn't ignore him and use their Q&A to just get out some facts about the budget, the national debt, true unemployment, etc.  That's what Democrats always do.  The MSM is going to portray them as haters no matter what they said, so they might as well have used the free air time to get their own message out.

The White House is really missing a big point here.  The GOP is united because the Democrats made it a point to go after every moderate-to-liberal Republican in the last two elections.  There aren't any Republicans left in the House whose districts WANT them to work with Obama, or who care about what the MSM has to say about any of this.   There really is a very big part of America that is still conservative and those Reps. will not be mau-maued into some bipartisan bullshit.

So this might get Obama some nice reviews on NPR, and maybe buck up some of his hardcore supporters, but it doesn't change anything else.

198 The leaders who work most effectively, it seems to me, never say "I." And that's not because they have trained themselves not to say "I." They don't think "I." They think "we"; they think "team." They understand their job to be to make the team function. They accept responsibility and don't sidestep it, but "we" gets the credit. This is what creates trust, what enables you to get the task done.
