Obama: Bring on the bribes!
— Slublog

Desperation.

WASHINGTON — Still seeking votes for his proposed health care overhaul, President Barack Obama appears ready to reverse his position and allow unpopular deal-sweetening measures in the hopes of finding Democratic support for legislation whose future will be decided in coming days.

Increasingly eager to finish work on his top domestic priority, Obama was set to head to northeast Ohio on Monday with a final sales pitch for health care legislation that the top Democratic vote-counter in the House said lacked support to pass. Obama's top political adviser, David Axelrod, said he was "absolutely confident" the measure would pass during a make-or-break week that already saw the president delay his trip to Indonesia, Australia and Guam.

"This is the week where we will have this important vote," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said. "I do think this is the climactic week for health care reform."

Clinching support, though, might require Obama to back away from his insistence that senators purge the legislation of a number of lawmakers' special deals.

Taking a new position, Axelrod said the White House only objects to state-specific arrangements, such as an increase in Medicaid funding for Nebraska, ridiculed as the "Cornhusker Kickback." That's being cut, but provisions that could affect more than one state are OK, Axelrod said.

Once again, this puts the lie to Obama's repeated statements accusing the GOP of standing in the way of healthcare reform. This bill is so toxic that the president is reduced to bribing members of his own party to get them to vote for it.

Just when I think the Obama administration and Congress have reached a new low, they prove me wrong and keep digging. This is a remarkably cynical move by an increasingly arrogant president. (h/t: Allahpundit)

Switched out the 'shop for one that better reflects the nature of this president and his administration.

Update - The candy store is open! In addition to the kickbacks, Democrats are offering campaign cash and working with drug company lobbyists to sweeten the deal for those still on the fence.

4 Are any of the AoSHQ attorneys prepared to bring suit vs. the government when this mandate passes?

What should we, as peaceful dissenters, prepare to do?  If we refuse to participate in purchase mandates, what could we expect and how can we legally defend ourselves and fight this?  Other suggestions on rebellion and dissension?

It's gonna pass, so we need to get to the next steps of our plan.

16 will resign due to the illegality of bribes that are going to catch up to him.

That will never happen.  It would necessitate Holder doing something (unlikely) or the house to threaten bringing impeachment charges (not gonna happen with Pelosi in control).  So, neither can happen.

After Nov, you might get a house that would bring charges, but probably not, and the Senate would never vote to convict/remove.  There won't be enough Senate votes for that until after 2012, and even then it wouldn't happen after the bad taste the Clinton impeachment left in everyone's mouth.

It would take video of Obama axe murdering someone to get him out of office ahead of his legal expiration date.

Rahm to issue with calling these deals "special".  He said that if any state were offered special deals ranging from the tens of millions to over a billion, all the other state would become eligible for the same deals.  So in essence, instead of having to pony up for a series of one-off bribes, all states would be able to personalize their contribution to the ruination of the country.

Happy days are here again!

20 Expect our Moody's AAA credit rating to fall quite possibly because of Obamacare. Government spending will continue to balloon even as increased taxes from Obamacare, taxes supposedly destined for "health," will get spent now on other expanded programs. Obama is wrecking the economy as planned while kicking the can of economic recovery.

How Obamacare Would 'Stick It' to Insurers

Last week, at a health-care rally in a high-school gymnasium on the outskirts of St. Louis, 500 people — a good turnout for a PTA fundraiser — heard the President of the United States peddle his health-care overhaul and describe insurers as the root of all health-care evil.    Therefore, it's perhaps worth noting that — according to Congressional Budget Office projections — from 2014 to 2025 Obamacare would provide an average of $83 billion per year in new taxpayer-funded health-care subsidies that would ultimately be paid to health insurers. That's ten times the $8.3 billion in combined annual profits made by America's ten largest health insurers. And, of course, Obamacare would also require that every American buy the health insurers' product under penalty of law.    Yes, Obamacare would really stick it to the insurers. That's why even MoveOn.Org calls Obamacare "a massive giveaway to the insurance companies." This much is clear: If funneling too much money through insurance companies is the problem, Obamacare isn't the solution.

Is anyone aware of any public interest law firm that is preparing to file suit if Obamacare is "passed" via the Slaughter rule? There was some theorizing in a post a week or two ago that if the bill passes by that mechanism then every single American would have standing to sue. I'd like to get in on that. The idea of potentially tens of millions of citizens in a class action suit against the government might help Howell Raines understand just how popular this bill is.

40 Well, naturally adding more bribes incentives to the bill will make it more popular as voters realize just how much more they will be getting FOR FREE! FOR FREE!

Did you see that video where Senator Al Franken totally destroyed the Rethuglican lie that there are no immediate benefits to passing the bill? He went line by line and showed all the improvements and awesomeness that kick in on day one.

And over here, we have this poll that shows how parts of the bill have more than 50% support, thus, adding it all up, the bill has 437% support. Only insurance company hacks and Shylocks oppose this bill.

Finally, we have this article here that definitively lays out how the Americans love, love, LOVE, the bill, it is just the process they hate. But, once they find out how amazing and super the benefits are, they will forgive the process. Much like the time I  killed grandpa for his inheritance. The family hated me for killing him but, soon, very soon I'm sure, they will really love me for all that sweet cash they're rolling in.

Unfortunately for all of us, I think this abomination will pass.  Obama is probably counting on passing an amnesty bill and creating 20-30 million brand new Hispanic democrat voters just in time for the November elections.  Also, the rationing and death panels will not come into force until 2013-2014, safely after the next presidential election.  You can be sure as soon as the bill passes the MSM and the democrats (but I repeat myself) will be full of stories of poor widows and orphans getting health care for the first time thanks to the Obamamessiah.

And the same 52% who voted for Obama the first time will allow themselves to be fooled.  Again.

Are any of the AoSHQ attorneys prepared to bring suit vs. the government when this mandate passes?

No, I'm not an attorney, but I have seen a couple of episodes of Law and Order so I'm probably as well qualified if not more so than most of the worthless asshat's in Congress.  But on the upside apparenlty there are more than a few states attorney's who already have law suits raring to go over the whole federal mandate that people buy health insurance issue.

And I'm quite certain the law suits won't stop there, if they do use the Slaughter "rule" to pass this peice of garbage you can bet that the whole thing will most likely end up in the Supreme Court, since that would represent a huge usurpation of powers by the House of Representatives, power that it is not granted by the Constitution.

It's gonna pass, so we need to get to the next steps of our plan.

Sadly I think you might just be correct.  I think they will do absolutely anything to get this abomination passed whether it's legal or not.  It's also unfortunate that our direct recourse in this matter is somewhat limited, at least until the next election cycle.

Only about 18 states allow for the recall of elected officials such as Senators and House members, and the state law varies in each state as far as how the process works and what all is needed to get the effort started.

What I would recommend in each and every state that allows it is that people begin immediately working to recall any elected official that voted for this atrocity.  Send a clear message to Washington, no, you can't go against the will of the people and keep your jobs.

Then in the next election require any candidate that you support to make one absolute commitment, that they will repeal Obamacare, in it's entirety.  If they don't agree to repeal Obamacare in no uncertain terms then they don't have your support.

Assuming of course Barry does sign this into law there is a third option, provided of course we can get enough seats back in the house in 2010 to actually take control.  If so, then impeachment is also a possible avenue, since if they do use the "Slaughter Rule" to pass this garbage that would be perhaps the highest crime or misdemeanor ever committed by a President.

But sadly the Constitution made it clear that only the House has the power to begin such a proceeding, and only the Senate can decide the outcome, so in order for that to occur we'd need control of both.

Obama can only offer bribes to get Dems to switch votes ...  any overt threats will only get leaked to the press and Obama will end up with egg on his face ...  and even the bribes have to be offered in nebulous terms or they too can be used against him by Dems ...

They know that losing Obama's support in the next election cycle is a PLUS not a minus so all he has is bribes and that may be toxic in the next election cycle.  Arm twisting only works if you have a credible way of enforcing the twisting and if Pelosi loses the speakership (which is highly likely) she can't bluff any such arm twisting ...

basically we can all see the Dems cards on the table and there is not a card remaining in the deck that gives them a winning hand ...  in a poker tournament the check mark would be on the opponents hand right now ...

Keep the foot on their throat ...  even if they try and bring a vote and lose it Pelosi will vote No to allow her to bring it up again at some point in the future ...

This is even bigger than healthcare.  Zero's tacked on the education bill, i.e., takeover of student loans.  Not only will they control healthcare; they'll control education and who gets one.  I haven't heard one of the "good guys" say this could be repealed -- quite the opposite.  The Cornhusker Kickback is out, but all of the others are still in there.

The reconciliation bill is out, but FOX didn't mention it -- at least early this a.m.  Some Morons in the ONT pointed out a few goodies, though.   Why do you think you shouldn't have to pay healthcare costs for Andy Stern, Rich Trumpka and the rest of their union buddies?  You haven't heard Planned Parenthood squawking, have you?  That's 'cause abortion coverage is in there.  The public option is back, too as well as de facto amnesty if this passes.

Besides the education loans, there's scads of other takeover type things in this piece of doody, too.  Rush has talked about how Zero has said "reparations don't go far enough," and Beck has some August 2008 tape of 0 talking about it too.

I'm going to DC tomorrow with some hardcore types.  Since we're talking about the reparations crowd, let me just say:  I'll be representin'  -- the sane side of America.

Repealing it aint going to be easy.

It takes 2/3rds MAJORITY in the house and senate....

Nope, any law can be repealed by simply passing another law that removes it. Maybe you meant that it would take that to override an Obama veto of a repeal.

Thank God!   So, we have to wait until Obo is out of office then?

I guess, thats fine.. doens ttake effect until 2014 anyway.

Obama is appearing in Ohio today, yeah another worthless speech.  He was supposed to have this Natoma Canfield, a 50 year old breast cancer survivor who now has leukemia.  She can't appear with Teh One because she's at the Cleveland Clinic receiving treatment even though she currently has no insurance. You can't make this shit up.

ABC radio news was spinning this to sound like she had a relapse after dropping her health insurance because her premiums went up. She's gonna introduce Jugears from her hospital bed.   Posted by: Tinian at March 15, 2010 11:43 AM (7+pP9)   OMG!   You really cant make this shit up.

Supposedly there are things in the bill that would make it impossible to repeal.

I know that's supposed to be impossible, but the Democrats make the rules as they go. And the gutless GOP follows them.

Yeah, I remember that stupid stunt they pulled by illegally passing a "rule change" with a 51 majority that said it would take 66 to repeal it.

I guess that was for their Kossite base. Any rule passed by a 51 majority can be removed by a 51 majority.

76 I agree with Glen Beck, this is an effort to collapse the system. Keep spending money until the economy collapses and have this as the safety net. When we hit 20 to 30% unemployment, how many people are going to care if the government is supplying "free" health care?

In this case, its hard to tell the difference between incompetence and evil since the end results are indistinguishable.

I think Glenn Beck is right on this too.

Collapsing the system is on its way.

Next is amnesty to illegals... they will get our FREE healthcare too.

Then crap and tax...where energy bills will 'skyrocket'...but, let me guess.. not for union workers.

This is insane.

80 At first i thought it said "Osama: Bring on the Bribes" and i thought it was something new (and unprecedented). But now that i see it's referring to our Commie Bastard in Chief, it's no surprise at all. If you're a House donkey, the key is to be the last and deciding vote, like Ben Nelson. I've not been a fan of civil disobedience, but I hope the people of this great nation let it be known: the deciding vote will get tar and feathered. Repeatedly. For starters. And through all this, I'm still pissed at McCain: a smart, spirited campaign could have won this and we wouldn't have to deal with donkey shit every day since last year. I hope he gets his RINO ass retired come November. Grrrrrrr. More coffee.

Why it hasn't occurred to everyone is a mystery to me.

Obama is a Marxist.  The ONLY THING that this is about is GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED HEALTH CARE.

He'll do anything for the control.

So, looking at this glass as 30% empty, if there ISN'T a vote this week, that probably means this thing won't pass.

You might have a point Looking Closely.  Pelosi won't schedule a vote till she's sure it will pass.  The instant she thinks it will, she'll schedule a vote, but until that moment happens she'll wait until she has enough votes, regardless of the rhetoric she spouts publically.

So the key here is to not only keep up the pressure, but increase it.  Call all of the Democrats on the "maybe" list and let them know just how you feel.  Keep their phone lines and email inboxes jammed.  If you are a consitutient who lives in their district let them know you'll not only be voting against them you'll be actively campaigning against them in the next election.

If you don't live in their district, let them know that even though you won't be able to vote them out you will be donating every dime you can spare to whoever runs against them in the next election.

If we can inject a little reality into their liberal fantasy world where they seriously think were all going to "see the light" and "thank them profusely" after they pass this abomination we might still have a hope of defeating it.

Basically it's all down to a pushing contest at this point.  We need to push them harder than Pelosi and crew.  If we do manage to exert more pressure than San Fran Nan we'll win.  If not the whole country will lose.

Sad, but true.

85 Republicans can easily destroy the "health care reform" bill right now; if they will but repeatedly and emphatically declare:

IT WILL KILL OUR STRUGGLING ECONOMY.

If every prominent Republican who attends a presser or gives an interview emphasizes this singular crystallized point, the political pressure and citizenry push-back against wavering Democrats in the house will be enormous.

ECONOMY KILLER equals JOBS KILLER. The case can easily and succinctly be made that this new, massively unfunded entitlement will require massive taxes and hobble the medical industry. That's obviously an economy killer.
As unpopular as this piece of crap bill is: it can immediately be made much more so through singularly clarion emphasis regarding its destructiveness to the economy.

86 Ace,

- SERIOUSLY. If the Republicans do this, it's all over for that crappy health care bill.

87 Q. If the house would pass using the Slaughter rule, they have really only voted for an new bill, not the Senate bill, so if the senate did not go on and pass that with at least 51 reconciliation votes there is NO bill that passed both bodies of congress and is legal for Barry to sign. Is this correct?

And through all this, I'm still pissed at McCain: a smart, spirited campaign could have won this and we wouldn't have to deal with donkey shit every day since last year. I hope he gets his RINO ass retired come November. Grrrrrrr. More coffee.

Biggest problem with the McCain campaign was the candidate.  I think most conservatives, like myself, knew flat out that John would throw us under the bus at the first opportunity to get a headline full of praise from the lame stream media.

He did it on McCain-Kennedy, he did it on McCain-Feingold, he pretty much had a track record of slapping his name on liberal legislation.  He was pretty much the MSM's go to boy whenever they wanted a poster boy to prove that conservative ideas were wrong.

Then all of a sudden during the campaign, no apology, no admission he was wrong, just this "I've always been a conservative" hype.  Sorry, that wasn't flying at all.  The fact that McCain couldn't energize the base and worse yet is about 950 years old and sitting through a McCain speech is about as exciting as watching paint dry and you've pretty much got a garunteed loser all the way around.

Combine that with a bunch of uneducated independents who bought into a lot of nonsensical rhetoric about "hope and change" and viola, you can get got a junior Senator with zero experience who never said a single substantive thing throughout his campaign that he didn't have to rapidly distance himself from later.

I just hope the republicans learned there lesson from last time around.  Step 1, do whatever you have to do to either encourage McCain not to run, or barring that make darn sure you don't split conservative support so a RINO like McCain can't squeak through the nomination process.

I hope they realize the old days of any old RINO will do are over.  Otherwise I'm afraid that things are going to get very, very ugly indeed.

Is this correct?

Quite correct.  In order for this bill to use the reconciliation option the House has to pass the Senate bill as is, then the President has to sign it into law, and then and only then can they start making changes.  The House bill never passed the Senate with a 2/3rd's majority and can't now that Brown got elected, so it's DOA.

If they use the "Slaughter Rule" what they will be doing is to be creating a brand new bill that has never passed either the House or the Senate with a 2/3'rds majority, under the guise of "fixing" the Senate bill even though they can't do that legally because the Senate bill isn't yet a law.

The House could pass the Senate bill and send it to the President for his signature, and then use reconciliation to "fix" the Senate bill and this would be at least somewhat legal, since the Senate bill would have passed both houses with a 2/3'rds majority.

However to do so Pelosi has to convince the House members that the Senate can actually be trusted to allow the fixes to be put in, which is a really tall order.  If the House passes the bill and it's signed into law the Senate could pretty much tell the House at any point to go pound sand, that they wouldn't allow anything to be changed or at least not anything of substance.  As a result getting the actual Senate bill to pass in the house is a pretty tall order to say the least.

So as a result Pelosi and company came up with this "Slaughter Rule" that supposedly they can just vote on a rule change that would allow them to reconcile a bill that technically doesn't yet exist and get it passed in the Senate using reconcilation, bascially only requring a 51 vote majority in the Senate rather than the 2/3rd majority mandated by our Constitution, supposedly because the "bill" already passed the Senate with a 2/3rd's majority.  But of course it hasn't, because were actually talking about 2 entirely different bills here.

They intend to short circuit the process, and shred the Constitution in order to pass this thing.  It's reprehensible to say the least.
