— Ace A footnote, this writer says. Or maybe a cautionary tale, at most.
Obama's fall is all the more spectacular because of the way he sold himself. I don't mean the messianic part, but that's a huge part of it.
I mean this: Candidates and parties sell themselves partly on ideology and party on simple competency. Ideology convinces some, but not a majority; to get to the majority, a pitch of competency grabs those who aren't sold on ideology but aren't dead-set against the candidate's ideology.
Liberals run harder on this message of competency than conservatives do, partly because the media sells this for them so ably, but also because they need to make up more votes this way. Maybe 40% of the country is conservative, and so a conservative candidate has to convince just 10% more to get his 50%; but only about 20-25% of the country is liberal, so a liberal candidate has to sell a lot more people on the idea that it's not his ideas, his ideology, that really matters, but just his general competency. His intelligence, mostly, and judgment.
The liberal media sells liberal candidates as brilliant and even-tempered and "sophisticated" and "nuanced" of thought; all of these are non-ideological attributes which appeal to most, whatever one's politics. And they need to do this, as only about 25% of the country can be persuaded to come along on the basic liberal message of higher taxes, more spending, more government power to dictate the affairs of men, and less freedom.
Meanwhile, Republican candidates get the opposite treatment from the media. I've noted before that every single Republican candidate is claimed by the media to be:
1. Stupid
2. Evil
3. Crazy
4. Out-of-touch
...and pretty much you can categorize every Republican office-seeker since Eisenhower (Out of touch) in this way. Nixon: Evil and Crazy; Reagan: Stupid and Crazy and possibly Evil; Bush I: Out of touch; Bush II: Stupid, Crazy, Out of Touch and Evil.
Just as the liberal media needs to pad a liberal candidate's vote-share by selling them on the non-ideological virtues of their candidates, so too do they need to deduct as many possible voters from a conservatives by selling them on the non-ideological negatives of those candidates.
So the public bought into Obama, to the tune of 53%, not on his ideology, mostly, but on just how super-duper smart he was. He would bring to the job not ideological positions, but general problem-solving tools. Without having to force the public to choose this ideology or that, he would just fix things, not because he believed in a specific theory of politics but because he was just that good.
Two years into his hopefully four year term, it's apparent to anyone who's not a fucking idiot that Obama doesn't have a fucking clue what the fuck he's doing. Far from being the Mr. Fix It, he's Mr. Fuck It Up Worse. All the calumnies thrown at Bush-- blundering incompetent idiot retard chimp -- apply fully to Obama. As they used to joke about Bush -- Obama is the idiot who broke the world.
It's amusing to me how simple America's problems were when Democrats were out of power, looking to take over. We would just fix the economy. Snap! Fixed. Just cancel Bush's tax cuts for the rich and it would all be right as rain. We could just bring peace between Israel and the Palestinians, and convince the Iranians and North Koreans it was in their interest to give up the bomb; all we needed was a smart guy to speak the right words to these countries that Bush was too stupid to know.
We could just get the oceans to stop rising, and just reduce our dependency on foreign oil, and just do this and just do that.
It was all so very easy for the 2006-2008 Democrats to explain how they'd work these wonders. All they needed, they told the public, was to get the idiot Republicans out of office. These problems were all easily solved; we just needed Smart People (TM) running things. Replace the Backwards Idiots (TM) with the Smart People (TM) and it would all be smooth sailing.
And it wasn't about ideology so much as competency.
Well we see now that none of these problems (and fake problems, like global warming) were simple to solve, and only a simpleton cold have claimed otherwise, but now Obama and his still-loyal media defenders are telling us, retroactively, how difficult all these things are to change and fix.
But I don't think the public is fooled. They were told that simply switching the supposedly dumb people out for the smart people would fix things. It didn't, and exposed the supposedly smart people as dumber than those they called dumb. Obama's luminescent incompetence is going to make it hard for Democrats to run on non-ideological competency as a platform for a generation.

Anyone who could look at then-candidate BOHICA's "accomplishments" and see someone with any competency at anything other than being a media-darling was willfully ignorant.
And the MFM is already trying to select our candidate- or at least choose who we don't select- for the primaries. If the MFM has their way, we'll end up in one of three situations:
1) Mitt Romney
2) Mike Huckabee
3) Someone no one has ever heard of except die-hard policy dorks.
Now, I don't know that those situations will be enough to save the Presidency for President BOHICA, but they won't help.

I'd call it incandescent incompetence. Luminosity has nothing to do with it.
Also, you forget the Repubs that lost:
Dole: out of touch.
McCain: Crazy and out of touch.
Palin: Crazy and stupid.
Also note that they add more adjectives the longer the Republican is in power...so Bush II and Regan got the brunt of it. Dole the least of it because he was furthest from actually winning.

You writing is very prescient. Everything within me resonates with this entry I need nothing more for today.
I went to a dear friends house over the Christmas break (well, the first week of my two week break). The family and himself scrapbook and he has a 09 scrapbook and 10 scrapbook of Mr Obama himself.
He also has two magazines out front and center on the coffee table (Esquire) with Meechelle on one cover and the One on the other.
We have had heated debates over the last year and a half. But he is now asking more questions based on what is instead of what ought to be. I know the bloom may never fall off the rose in relation to the Bamster b/c of the apparent 'historicity' of a black prez and my friend being black (we've been over that plenty o' times), but the shine is fading.

What is truly sad (or frightening) is that even with the shield and filter of the MFM, Obama's lack of policy smarts was clearly evident throughout the campaign. Everything from: his answer to Joe the Plumber, his gaffes such as "Israel is a constant sore" and "57 states", his explanation of profits and earnings, along with his "Fairness Doctrine" concerning capital gains taxes, etc, etc... it was all out there.
Make of that what you will, whether it be the disinterest of the majority of the voting public to actually research pols or the ineptitude of the McCain Campaign or a myriad of potential other reasons.

@39: "They run on what they know the majority of Americans to be, fiscally and socially conservative."
While a larger percentage of Americans say they are conservative as opposed to liberal, their actions and votes tend to show that they are either confused as to what it means to be conservative, or lying their asses off.
Posted by: Fa Cube Itches at December 27, 2010 02:21 PM (xy9wk)
Here is where we part ways.
It may not be that the public is "fooled", as in a majority, but a significant chunk is quite eager to be fooled, you might say they were "pre-fooled" and no real effort was required. These people you really can't get through to, you have to go over them.
Another big chunk could give a rat's ass, whether their reasons are valid or not, they're not interested or informed. Sadly, some of them vote.
We're just hoping that these groups aren't a majority next time around, that's all.
Dead on about President B. Shortpants Fuckup, though.

And there's no (realistic) way to fix that...
Think about it, even if we got a Conservative Congress and a Conservative President all of whom were willing to fall on their proverbial swords, the very next Congress/President would be liberal (based on promising to "lower" the taxes of "the poor" again) and would immediately re-institute the current progressive tax structure (or worse).
This is my best argument for the so-called "fair tax" (which isn't) and the corresponding Constitutional amendment which would be required to repeal the income tax.

You know, Americans have ingrained cultural references against which to judge braggarts who can't deliver. One that comes to mind is the story of Rumpelstiltskin, in which the miller's daughter gets caught in a huge boast and has to live up to it on pain of death. She had a huge advantage over Obama, though: she had Rumplestiltskin to save her ass. (We'll overlook the part where she screws the gnome out of his justly-deserved and well-earned payment.)
We also know how to deal with people whose boasts turn out to be empty. We all know (even if W couldn't get the formulation right) the adage, "Fool me one, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."

I think some people are just stupid, and don't have the sense God gave a pissant. They just believe whatever is fed to them, and don't bother to look further. If the Won tells them he's always been a blue dog Dem, or that he really cares about the middle class, and what he's doing will help them, they're too effing dense to see through it. They don't even have the intellectual capacity to question it.

Since they stopped using the word "Muslim" in all stories about Islamic-inspired terrorism and now go with the generic phrase 'militant group,' the AP would also to switch 'terrorist' with another word.
A word that reflects the, um, root causes, and, um, addresses the socio-economics of the acts.
Instead of terrorist, maybe we should use disadvantaged third-worlder.

Underlying these media statements seems to be the implication that things were so fucked up that Obama, like FDR, will need 4 terms in office to finally fix them. Fat fucking chance.
Also, since the Left portrays itself as infinitely smarter than anyone not on the Left how would it even be possible to create a problem too difficult for them to fix in no time flat? Their alleged infinite intelligence should be able to see through any of the problems a cretin like Bush could create. You don't go to the biggest idiot you know when you are trying to create a puzzle to stump someone, you go to someone whose brilliance will come up with a puzzle so subtle that people of ordinary intelligence can't unravel it.
The Left's ability to talk about (and cause) problems is infinitely large, but their ability to solve them infinitely small. When they finally get the absolute power they crave, their only historical "solution" to problems is to kill off the people they claim are causing them.

1. An outrageous idea is proposed that no rational person would even consider, say, the idea that animals should have rights in court.

3. Outrageous idea now becomes part of the "national dialogue" as though it was there all along, usually becoming part of progressive policy.
4. Profit!

Thus, his telling America how intelligent the Won is gives rise to the belief that Obama is smarter that he is.

Further, you can also expect the left wing wingnuts to continue to get away with their political bigotry long into the future so long as there is no general effort to properly label the left's political bigotry for it is -- political bigotry. If people came to recognize political bigotry for what it is, it would die a quick death and the left wing nut cases would have to find another way to market their cause or trash those of others.. Without having to force the public to choose this ideology or that, he would just fix things, not because he believed in a specific theory of politics but because he was just that good.
This. A thousand times this.
You've got scary-large segment of the population out there that utterly lacks the ability to think critically.
Ideology? Why, that's what the whole problem is. Why can't everyone just get along and just get stuff fixed?
That's who these imbeciles think. And what's worse, they just assume that there are smart people out there who know what to do.
What these low information, uncritical voters do not and never will understand is that when dealing with massive, complex systems (like the economy or our health care system), the smartest guy in the world is incompetent. The best he can do is fake it.
That's what we have--a government full of big talking fakers.
And it is necessarily so.
Anyone who works within a company of more than a few dozen employees sees the overwhelmingly negative inertia of bureacracies.
It is inexorable. It grinds. Anyone who stands before it is reduced to dust.
There is no greater bureacracy than the U.S. government. Any rational observer would understand the inherent flaw of trying to fix anything through such a corrupt, broken system.
But for some strange reason, when it comes to politics otherwise reasonable people suddenly lack the ability to extrapolate basic everyday experiences and apply them to a larger sphere.
Oh, yes. These smart people have my best interest in mind, they think.
Excuse me? Are you insane? Does your typical boss have your best interest in mind? How about the company's best interest?
No?
Smart as a whip? A whiz at squeezing more out of his limited resources? A dynamic and inspirational leader who knows how to attract and retain the best and brightest?
No?
Well, is he at least charitable, fair and benevolent?
No?
Well what is he interested in? Protecting his own little fiefdom at any cost? Preserving his lifestyle? Grabbing glory and credit whether they're his due or not? Waging petty battles against other department heads over past transgressions, the details of which are long forgotten?
A sneaky little shit who kissed ass into his current position and is going to camp out there for another 10 years, protecting his ass by hook or by crook until retirement?
The deuce you say!
But the folks in government are different. Somehow.
Better.
Kinder.
Smarter.
More capable.
And so it goes...

This.
Osama Obama's place in history will be governed largely by two factors: 1) whether the nation can survive his vindictive, America-hating, pro-Muzzie regime with a relatively intact populations and (if #1 is positive) 2) how long it takes a government led by a patriotic-pro-American, competent President to repair the collateral damage the Traitor-in-Chief has done to our economy, social structure and Constitution.

The Democrats are in a steel-jawed trap of their own making. How do you primary the Historic First Black President? As we've just witnessed in the midterm elections, Democrats are willing to place ideological consistency over electoral considerations, and enough of them will be willing to do the honorable thing by sticking with their HFBP to cost them the Presidency, if the Republicans run someone acceptable to both independents and non-psychotic Democrats.

"1. millions of new voters
2. a shitty Republican candidate
3. a third-party straw candidate
4. a disaster, i.e. an attack or an epidemic"
I'm with you except for #4. Team Obama likes to frame self-defined "crises" because they really aren't and their manifestations purely contrived. A real crisis? Remember the BP oil spill? Unemployment? Failing economy? Foreign threats? Et cetera. Obama wants nothing to do with them and, when forced, flails and fails horrifically. The last thing that can bail him out is a real, unpremeditated crisis. I think most Americans know a weak president as surely do our enemies abroad. The thinking ones will recoil at the thought of Obama at the helm.
Think Carter. Carter's appalling, weak leadership led us to his successor in a grand rebuke. The Iranian hostage crisis clubbed the electorate to its senses.
The real question is, "Do we have enough people still unweaned from the government teat that a good clubbing can work?" Team Obama's goal is to win the race to make more dependents faster than independents can be agitated to action.

There are a few people who are on the Left who put forward as good an argument as can be made from the collectivist, command and control, perspective. The problem is the perspective itself. So yeah, I do think that anyone who doesn't see that has to have at least some intellectual flaws, however well they can hide them beneath intelligent-sounding arguments proceeding from flawed premises.

Just because that is how you judge intelligence doesn't mean that everyone else does the same. It isn't difficult, for instance, for someone to acknowledge that Chomsky is brilliant, but wrong on his politics (which are driven by his emotional handicaps and not his intellect). Perhaps you have problems making that distinction, but many others do not.

Intelligence is sort of defined as knowing where those holes are and whether or not you need to fill them. As president, he's got a lot of holes (you gay guys just get the fuck back, ok?), and he's unwilling to fill them.

40% of the country doesn't pay taxes and many of them get bonus payments--no way they are going to vote anyway but straight socialist ticket, whether or not they identify themselves as liberals/progressives or moderates or independents; and, of
the remaining 60% ( and I base this on constant observation of the moron horde) roughly 1 in five is mentally deficient, and enamored of the MFM etc, thus even of the 60% you THINK you can count on to vote for the good of the country, 12% of the total electorate will vote "stupidly".
Run the numbers and you get 52% for the Obama (D) socialist wunderkind and 48% for the generic opponent (R). Bottom line, this was a nice country once upon a time.

Yep. The good-black-speaker=genius part is also an indication that the person who believes in the validity of that equation also believes that most blacks are inferior. (BTW, he has always stunk on ice as a speaker. But I'm guessing that these knuckleheads are using the Reid Theorem.)
And the thing is that there are indeed a lot of black guys (and girls) out there who speak well, are intelligent and who have concrete accomplishments. That particular fact, coupled with all of the purposeful secrecy about Obama's records and background leads one to the not-new conclusion that his persona was totally fashioned by the Left and that the fix has been in for a long time. A regular black person with real accomplishments would not have be as pliant a puppet.

I truly hope you are correct -- that he's a one term president. But I'm not so sure he can't accomplish insurmountable problems in the two years left -- these end runs around Congress and the courts are troubling, so is the damage to presidential image. He's going about destroying respect for the office (both nationally and internationally) at an alarming rate.

I don't think Obama sold himself on being a messiah. His supporters may have made him out to be because they were desperate for change and desperately afraid of the alternative. The change? We had an incumbent who led us into war that did not need to be started. People's lives and vast amounts of treasure lost. All that lost on "faulty intelligence"? That's why they needed change. The incumbent was stupid, out of touch, surrounded by evil people and trying desperately to appeal to the crazy. Those things you mention below. I don't think that was made up in a meeting of liberal elite media players. That's the real equation that represents your side of politics.
We were also afraid of the alternative. A campaign that would actually choose to run a media-whore and carnival barker of cheap lies who can't even finish a term as governor. Either doesn't read the papers or is just afraid to say what she did and didn't read - or was being coached to not play with the "liberal" reporters. It was a really simple question. Just like Sharon Angle was shielded in a "no media bubble". As was Joe Miller. A new thing with your candidates I see. We already suffered Stupid and Out Of Touch. We didn't wan t part deux. Messiahs can grow out of that environment.
Non-righties and those who don't fear non-whites were also excited about a black president. I realize that's not a big thing with many of the folks who vote your way but for the rest of us, we felt good about it. And will again the next time it happens.
Obama didn't make himself to be a messiah. These things did.
Candidates and parties sell themselves partly on ideology and party on simple competency.
Your side just made this an easy choice.
Liberals run harder on this message of competency than conservatives do, partly because the media sells this for them
Oh Lord. Yes, sure. The elite media elites all gather in a secret elite meeting and and chart the liberal elite course of the news. They have a secret handshake too. Can't you just get used to the idea that much of the country has other things on their mind beyond STOPPING a woman's right to choose, STOPPING gays from marrying, STOPPING gays from serving their country, STOPPING common sense environmental policy? You sure you love freedom? Are you sure?
1. Stupid
2. Evil
3. Crazy
4. Out-of-touch
Your four points. You got that right. Sure - It is just a conspiracy that anyopne from the right would be categorized this way. Totally made up. Not true at all. Yikes.
So the public bought into Obama, to the tune of 53%, not on his ideology, mostly, but on just how super-duper smart he was.
This is just too simple and stupid for you, Ace. I'm disappointed.
The rest of this dreck completely discounts a congress from day one, not concerned a bit with fixing the nation's problems but rather laser focused on destroying Obama. Congressional republicans who will do anything and sacrifice anyone in the name of beating down President Obama.
I'm not too happy with him but I will vote for him gain because your side really is Stupid, Evil, Crazy and Out of touch. I just read a comment from one of your readers still screaming for the birth certificate. Yup.
Your side claims we're run by Media Elites. Our side claims you're run by Elite, Short-Term Greed. - Tax cuts for the rich, the Walmart family, Koch Brothers, Insurance Industry, Oil Industry.
I like my elites better. Some of them actually care about people who DON'T have what they have.
Another thing you left out - you thrive on division. We thrive on inclusion. I know Obama wouldn't commit to gay marriage but his supporters are committed and they know you oppose it. That's not selling anymore. That's Stupid, Evil, Crazy and Out of touch. Our political universe includes Hispanics, blacks, gays and other minorities. Your party has no room for these. You overlooked that Ace.
Obama will win in 2012. But what will mark his presidency will not so much be incompetence but the sheer viciousness of the forces against him and precisely what those forces stood for. Greed and Intolerance. Stupidity, Evil, the Incurious and the Crazy.
Happy Christmas.

While true, Obama can't either. Technically, he reads TOTUS well. When Obama really needs to answer a simple question, he cannot. Recall, for example:
Doris, South Carolina Town Hall Attendee: "...My question is, though, in the economy times that we have now, is it a wise decision to add more taxes to us with the health care because it — we are overtaxed as it is."
Over seventeen minutes later and Doris still didn't have an answer.
Obama is a bullshit artist. He has to be because most Americans reject Socialism/Marxism/Communism. He is successful at selling it because the Constitutionally protected industry tasked with analyzing/critiquing him is derelict in its duty (since the MFM is ideologically sympatico) and actually reinforces his bubble except when it recoils occasionally in a fit of pique. Bush was just a poorer bullshit artist so his rhetoric was less flowing. And the Fourth Estate hated him.

Who give a rat's ass whether they care or not? The only thing that the "elites" need to do is get out of the way of others who have the gumption to at least try to get the the same types of things that the "elites" have. The tool for the pursuit of happiness=real education+drive+hard work. But the "elites" tell the rest of us that expecting those things from blacks, etc. is racist and, instead, that the government should force the "elites" to give the "inferiors" a piece of of the allegedly finite pie. And charming fellows like yourself call that "care." What is it really? A new form of slavery; this time meant for all non-elites--equal opportunity to be chattel.

John McCain was tortured. Did he choose to be tortured? No. He was just subjected to a depraved commie system. That, in and of itself doesn't make him a hero. Or worthy of my respect. If he'd been tortured -at his request- then that'd be a different story.
Just getting beat the F up doesn't make you a hero. Getting maimed by an oppressive enemy doesn't make you a hero it makes you a victim. There's a difference.
Simply put: suffering through an ass kicking doesn't make you a hero, it just means you got your ass kicked. In his case, he lived through an ass kicking. Good for him, but he's the sole benefactor.
There's a lot of very. VERY. good men who've given all in much worse circumstances and haven't been given any recognition....you wouldn't even recognize their names...so no. no. no.

No lover of McCain's policies and such, I will make one plug for the man he was, if not the man he is now--when given the option to return home early as the son of an admiral, he turned it down in favor of men who had been there longer.
I can't give him a pass for all the crap he's pushed (McCain Feingold, amnesty, running an anemic campaign full of backstabbers et al), but having been through the weak sister of that experience called SERE, that does shift a little water with me.
A little. He shouldn't be president, but he should be in one of the milder circles of hell as far as I'm concerned. I myself am shooting for gluttony, sloth, and wrath, and not necessarily in that order.

My one reason for optimism is that "the political center" isn't - that is, independents aren't all actually at the mid-point between liberal progressivism and conservatism. Some are libertarians, some are tea partiers, some are liberals pretending otherwise, and some are just fuzzy thinkers. But it is sobering to be reminded that some number of the public really do think the right leaders just need more power to make things right.

And, I forgot to point out, my stupid-ass lib brother who has now lived in Phoenix for all of six MONTHS made sure that this label applied to me too. At Christmas Eve dinner. FML.

We get the government we deserve. When people refuse to examine the accomplishments, records, and associates of a candidate in preference to pablum from any source we will be taken in by any two bit Elmer Gantry, Rev Sharpton, or Marx.
Obamao the Kenyan affirmative action candidate, fooled most of the people in 2008. I doubt the Oprah crowd and slack jawed youth who found his act so inspirational will admit voting for this child-girlie man in 2012.
In spite of how brillant the dinosaur media tells us he is, despite his having visited all 57 states; regretting he couldn't speak Austrian to the Austrians; or speaking Canadian in Quebec.
I never thought I'd miss the candor of Nixon; the competence of Carter or the honesty of Clinton in comparison to Rev. Wright's little boy's brillance and many achievements.

Well said. For the most part that sums up quite a bit in a hard cold succinct manner. Thank you very much, sincerely.
You write some good stuff Pal, but this takes the cake. You got to be a man on fire to put into words something like this you wrote here.
My hats off to you.
Bravo man!
Bravo!!
