Obama: Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength
— Gabriel Malor

The so-called "intellectual" President is cribbing from a book every highschooler in America has read...and he's plagiarizing the bad guys:

"You're coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don't always rank all that high on the truth meter," Obama said at Hampton University, Virginia.

"With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations, -- none of which I know how to work -- information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation," Obama said.

He bemoaned the fact that "some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction," in the clamor of certain blogs and talk radio outlets.

"All of this is not only putting new pressures on you, it is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy."

Does the President of the United States really believe that technologies that put more information in the hands of the public (and the voters) impede "empowerment" and "emancipation"? I hope not, but let's face it; Leftism has always relied on a certain ignorance. Certainly his speechwriter must have seen similarities between these statements and the most well-known work of political fiction of the twentieth century.

Just this year alone, the President attempted (and succeeded) in rushing through healthcare reform without allowing the true costs to be told. And then they were well on their way to an inquisition of the major corporations who started mentioning the costs. He and the Democrats now face enormous backlash precisely because the technologies that he bewails—blogs and talk radio—empowered us to discover and share the costs of ObamaCare.

For Obama, the engines of argument have become as objectionable as argument itself. The President laments that technology "exposes us to all kinds of arguments", a curious complaint from someone with as much education as Obama. He says this is putting pressure on our country. But preserving "all kinds of arguments" was considered so important for the United States that the principle was enshrined in the First Amendment!

And this isn't some bogus call for civility, either. His call to quiet the "diversion" of arguments is just the same old call to curtail dissent that is common among Leftists. The president is not worried about the opinion pages of the New York Times distracting young minds. It's the opinion pages of the Wall Street Journal he would like to silence. It's Glenn Beck and Ed Morrissey and our very own Ace.

Update: This is not the first time Obama demonstrated what a fearful and small-minded man he is. He has been complaining about Rush Limbaugh for over a year now. His war against Fox News similarly displayed an inability to deal with dissenting arguments. Even the White House press corps has complained about the pettiness that results from even the hint of criticism.

3 It's nothing to worry about, Gabe. The fat chick on CNN was telling Wolf Blitzer at 11:55 a.m. that because the One didn't mention Limbaugh, Beck and Palin by name this time, that it was okay for a President to give a speech like this.

5 Lest we forget this is a man who has admitted a kind of addiction to his Blackberry and who has given iPods as gifts (albeit loaded with his wit and wisdom).

But we all know what's going on here: He can't stand opposition and that's what all of these "distractions" are.  For him, "truth" has nothing to do with "fact".

I think that Occidental, Columbia and Harvard have failed miserably in teaching their affirmative action students what the word "information" means, because the Indoneisan Imbecile obviously hasn't got a clue.  Who classifies iPods, Xboxes, or PlayStations as "information"?  Then again, he's still a step up from his profoundly retarded "profit and earnings ratios" or "reduce premiums by 3000%".

This America-hating imbecile had better be thrown out of office soon, or there will be nothing left of this once-great, but quickly deteriorating, nation.

He also appealed for a more civil political debate and advised graduates to seek out and consider alternative views on the issues of the day, even if it makes their "blood boil."

He wants people to seek alternative views, but then denigrates the very technology that allows them to do so?

39 Obama has a point, or would if he drew the correct conclusion from his argument, that more information does not necessarily equate to better information. What our new access to information requires is a willingness and ability to do more thinking for ourselves, to use the technology and access to test and verify what we take in.

That's a blessing of our times not a curse.

Obama simply draws the conclusion that most people are too stupid or lazy to do this and therefore there information intake needs to be screened for them by pre-approved and credentialed authorities.

Of course, once information is freed from the right type of controls, well, yeah leftism is in danger.

As for the validity of what you can learn via 'new media' it's much more self-correcting than the 'old media'.

I have a friend who works in an non-editorial position at a newspaper. He was aghast that I would write about so many things on the blog without be a 'reporter'. After pointing out a reporter is not a subject expert everything they write about I explained that if I post something with a factual error there are dozens of bastards fine readers who will call my ass on it within minutes.

I asked him to compare that to the correction process of his newspaper.

Is this who He is? really seriously? or is someone back there pulling these strings, It is all so far out, from national security, to domestic plans.

121 [Here's the graduation message I would give the young 'uns.] You are all boned. Individually and as a group. You will have worse jobs -- if you are employed at all -- and will work for longer hours for less pay than your parents did. You will live smaller lives, travel less, and toil like galley slaves for people who drink the sweat from your brow as their due in life. Your world will be a far more perilous one than mine because we dared not call our enemies by their proper names for fear we would offend them. You will not know how to be married, or how to be functional parents to your children, because we never taught you how. You will not create much art of note, nor advance science much, because the very school we're in right now failed you completely. But on the off chance that there might be some few of you out there who are smart enough, strong enough, and lucky enough to pull us out of a future none of us want, I'll say this: we have done wrong by you. We chose to value the dull over the smart, and the slow over the fleet; we chose to reward mediocrity over excellence. We found actual accomplishment embarassing and did our level best to discourage it. I apologize to you for this, because your burden going forward will be all the greater. For the rest of you.... I don't particularly care for you. I don't like your music or your stupid clothes or hair or tattoos or piercings or your stupid sheep's faces. But as you are the ones who will be stuck with the check long after the rest of us have snuck out the back door, I can only say I'm sorry. I'm sorry we failed you. Learn from our mistakes and try not to repeat them. Go forth, and try not to fuck up as badly as we did.

Imagine if, just as he began to speak to this traditionally-black school's graduates, Obama was struck by a meteorite laced with Truthinium:

"If you strart listening to anyone but the tried-and-true race-hustlers we Democrats traditionally use to control your thinking, you might wander off the plantation, and we would lose the stoking of your grievances as our primary source of political power!  I hope we can all agree that nobody wants to see that, right?"

The dirty secret that Obama and the rest of the Democrats can never afford to let out is that their love for the "disadvantaged" has nothing to do with helping them gain advantage, and everything to do with making sure they stay that way.  An accomplished and fulfilled man is much more difficult to teach to hate.

speaking of commodes...

Drew Faust has spent millions of $$ to 'green' Harvard University, whose endowment took a huge hit.

Along with replacing perfectly functioning bulbs and light fixtures with CFL bulbs and expensive new fixtures, she had all the urinals replaced with waterless units.

Well, the urinals stink. They are a health hazard. You cannot have a 'waterless' urinal.

A waterless urinal = is a regular that does not flush. So she coulda saved tens of thousands of $$ by simply keeping the old urinals (which were practically new) and just shut off the water to them!

Moral of the story: Going Green is a fucking dumb.

168 The President laments that technology "exposes us to all kinds of arguments", a curious complaint from someone with as much education as Obama.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? But his so-called education insulated him against 'all kinds of arguments'. He was born, raised, nurtured, mentored, and educated as a leftist. At no point in his alleged education did he ever encounter contrary or conservative arguments. In fact, according to his memoir, by the time he reached Columbia he consciously avoided contact with any persons or ideas not of the radical left. That situation did not improve at Harvard Law or in Chicago.

It's easy to see why at this point in his life he has difficulties dealing with critics, and is confused by the failures of his programs. A man who has spent his life immersed in Marxist class-warfare propaganda is completely unprepared for the real world.

190 King's The Stand is at once a great book and a bad one. The part dealing with the actual plague and aftermath was great; the part about the "Boulder Free Zone" political crap was a snooze. King also shows some of his worst habits in that book: the "magical negro" (Mother Abigail); the "divine fool" (Tom Cullen); and solving all the problems by blowing everything up.

217 King tends to repeat himself a lot, thematically. Firestarter was basically a mash-up of Carrie and The Dead Zone, and he retconned Randall Flagg into the Dark Tower universe after introducing him in The Stand. And he never quite has gotten out of the habit of blowing everything up when he writes himself into a narrative cul-de-sac. I think if I had to pick one of his books as the best, I'd pick The Shining and then The Dead Zone, then 'Salem's Lot. After that...nothing else really measures up in my opinion until Pet Sematary, and even that wasn't up there with his early work. He fell prey to gigantism and lazy plotting, though he always retained a great sense of characterization and dialogue. (I haven't read Under the Dome yet, though I'll probably get around to it one of these days -- I'm assuming that it's a tedious "Save Mother Earth!" parable.)

I like to start fights with King fans by pointing out that Kubrick's movie of The Shining was better than the book it was based on -- a rarity in the movie world. King, naturally, disliked the movie and scripted a crappy made-for-TV miniseries that was "truer to his vision". His version sucked and Kubrick's didn't; QED. (Though I will say that Rebecca DeMornay made a better Wendy than Shelley Duvall did.) All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

When I saw Under the Dome on the shelves, my first thought was "oh, he must have watched The Simpsons Movie"

Thanks for posting this take on the speech, Gabriel.  It seemed that a too many other blogs that carried posts on this are distracted by BOÂ’s admitted technological disability. Personally, I donÂ’t care if he can turn on a microwave or program a DVR.  The context is what is most important.  In fact, it seems that there is a tactic involved in grouping all the gaming and entertainment devices together as of sources of information.  For one, it marginalizes competing arguments as being nothing more than “entertainment.”  It also creates a foundation for policies which might limit the collectiveÂ’s access to such entertainment (itÂ’s for our own good because so much information is a stress on our democracy).

Feel free to laugh at the glaring similarities with Orwell and what seems to be the administrationÂ’s ignorance of such similarities.  Personally, IÂ’m not laughing because I think they know this argument cuts against any notion of free speech – and donÂ’t care.  With the unfailing support of the media in marginalizing any who disagree, this administration is safe in saying what is on its mind.

As far as there being any point to a criticism of too much information – I suggest we think hard about the merit of that argument.  WhoÂ’s to decide what information is superfluous?  WhoÂ’s to decide, on our behalf, what information we should seek?

291 If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

It is quite irresponsible of FOX News to keep trying to paint this bomber as a member of our new allies on the 'War on Man-Made disasters' - a Moslem.  The evidence will in this case bear me out in the end, of that I am confident.  This is the reason we need to bring back the Fairness Doctrine, why hate-crime legislation is a good thing, and why we need a civilian army that is as well-funded, well-equipped, and stronger than our conventional military force to enforce both.

It isn't 'news' when the president says something stupid.  We are wasting time talking about how stupid the stuff he says is.  What we should do instead is:

Realize this regime is dangerous.  Behave accordingly.

Do the exact opposite of what he suggests -- get well connected & skilled with all private & electronic forms of media.  We will be relying on them like the Tienamen Square democracy advocates relied on their fax machines.

Listen to Rush, Beck, Fox, conservative bloggers, and anyone else he says not to.

Cling to God & guns, in that order.

Get your kids the heck out of govt schools, if you haven't already.

Talk about political issues at church (I don't mean ahead of the gospel)  You just can't endorse candidates!  You can certainly talk about political issues all day long.

Assume that everything he says is a lie.  If it is a law, repeal it.  A nominee; block it.  If he says it's sunny, get an umbrella.

Teach your children that "free" stuff just means someone else is paying.  Teach them to figure out WHO, WHY, and what strings are attached before they take anything "free".

And have a nice day
