— Purple Avenger Ha, ha, ha. Is that a threat or a promise Mr. President?
With Obama's campaign support track record being soooo enviable, I rather doubt this bit of schoolyard "I'm going to take my ball and go home" hooey carries much weight. The caucus already knows they're being asked to be legislative suicide bombers and any Obama "help" campaigning after passing wildly unpopular legislation would just rub salt in the voter's wounds.
The hubris of this man is simply incredible, he really thinks he's still a campaign asset.
[UPDATE]
SUPREME IRONY ALERT: Obama declares 3rd week or March as "National Poison Prevention Week"...as he busies himself with poisoning the nation's economy and health care systems.

The Obama administration says flying the flag could give Haiti the wrong idea.
“We are not here as an occupation force, but as an international partner committed to supporting the government of Haiti on the road to recovery,” the U.S. government’s Haiti Joint Information Center said in response to a query about the flag.
Maybe he's afraid there might be an American flag at some of the campaign spots.

It's been said before and by people more articulate than me that a lot of these D congressmen have been backed into a corner. In swing and normally red districts voting yes means the end of their stints in D.C. Nothing Obama can do will change this and I agree that his presence will probably aggravate things.
However, voting no will probably get them primaried by the left of their own party. All that sweet stimulus cash earmarked for D reelection campaigns will go straight into the war chest of their primary opponents. While Earflaps appearing for them on campaign stops may be the kiss of death, never underestimate the ability of a sitting President to raise money.
So, it's a lose/lose, but my heart isn't exactly bleeding for them.

Someone school me on this hypothetical:
Obamacare passes.
My work healthcare costs $500.00 a month, but the Obamacare fine is $400.00. So my firm shuts off their healthcare benefit, saving them $100.00 per person. But I have no healthcare.
So I enroll for whatever healthcare Obamacare provides at $300.00 a month.
WhoÂ’s going to pay for it? WhoÂ’s going to pony up the $300.00 a month?
My employer wonÂ’t. They have no incentive to do so. So who pays?
I do. Out of my own money.
So I lose my work healthcare, a $500.00 a month benefit, AND I have to pay an additional $300.00 a month for healthcare I am forced to buy or pay a fine myself.
I lose $800.00 a month.

Actually, most businesses would only give him a $100 raise as they are paying the $400 penalty. But it is unlikely he would only pay $300 since his business pays a group policy, so in this example he may end up out more than the theoretical $800.
Posted by: Guy Fawkes at March 16, 2010 08:22 AM (ympF8)
You are wrong.
Individual health insurance is sure to cost more than the group plan you company buys. This will likely increase since the young and healthy will prefer the fine (which will never be high enough to force people to sign up) and insurance companies will have a dwindling pool of really sick people forcing their rates to go up dramatically.
So instead of buying a plan for 300/month, it will likely cost 50 to 100% of the price your company was paying.

Insurance will go up for everyone since the bills include mandates. (ie, Insurers must cover care provided by various groups of Democratic supporters)
For the unemployed or the low skill workers the government will subsidize. The rich will not feel the hit as much, so, again, the Dems are hitting middle class hardest.
Also, the new government control is likely to cause waste, fraud, and abuse to go up (look at Medicxxx) further causing rates to increase.

Um, MegaIndependent (77), that would be b. Not True
That $500.00 benefit that had paid my workplace healthcare would most certainly NOT go back into my paycheck. Not if my workplace is paying a fine in place of offering healthcare.
Look at it logically. My work is paying $500, then shuts off healthcare and still has to pay $400. And you're saying that my work (which is in it for a profit) would pay the fine of $400 and an additional $500 to me? Nope, wouldn't happen, would not happen, couldn't happen, not in a rational world, unless.....you work for the government, then I guess it could happen.
But not to those who actually do productive work.
So, anybody know why it hasn't been mentioned that the average American in the private sector is going to be screwed, in real dollar amounts? See hypothetical above (6
.
Seriously, I would like to know why the Republicans are saying this, why talk radio isn't talking about this. Where in the hypothetical is it wrong?

-You don't get a pay raise, because the whole point was to save $100.
-you buy Govt Insurance for $300. This is a lousy plan, much worse than the private insurer plan you had earlier.
-The Govt gets $700 for this shitty plan (300 from you plus 400 from employer). In return they give you a health plan that is worth no more than $200.
-because of fraud, waste, abuse and corruption, this $300 plan actually costs the Govt $1000. Guess who pays for it in increased taxes?

Sorry, Mega Independent. Didn't see your retraction until after. Mea culpa.
To everyone:
My point wasn't about the amounts of each. I used numbers that were simple so that even democrats could understand what would happen. Lost benefits, out of pocket payments.
My point is why isn't the practical, hard-nosed, dollar economics, being talked about?
This hypothetical should hit home with 70-80% of the private workforce, and completely outrage all of them. This is a plain example for the average American who works for a living. And should energize 95% of them.
Why isn't it even being mentioned? The arguments Republicans use are well and good, but kind of esoteric to those people who aren't rabidly interested already. So I gather from conversations I've had with non-politcal people. Get the lead out from these people, and watch the meltdown of this healthcare bill. Talk to them about their benefits and their out-of-pocket expenses, and you'll see some rallying.

Talked about by whom?
Anyone with even the most elementary grasp of economics understands that this plan is NOT a money saver (and to the contrary, it will INCREASE, not decrease the nations' healthcare costs).
There is nothing left to talk about. A sizable majority of the American public is already AGAINST this plan.
Like just about EVERY liberal position, the supporters of this bill are going mostly on emotion. It "feels" right to have the gov't running healthcare, and it "feels" right that there should be nobody without coverage, so therefore Obamacare is "right" even though the plan will inevitably damage the vast majority of Americans (85%) who are currently satisfied with their healthcare.

127 #123: My point is why isn't the practical, hard-nosed, dollar economics, being talked about?
Talked about by whom?

Seriously, I would like to know why the Republicans aren't saying this, why talk radio isn't talking about this.

I believe you're describing what we, in the technical fields, would call a... mirror.
I don't care who ya are, that's funny shit right there!

Well then! If barry says he's not going to campaign for dems that vote no, i would suspect there to be more dems that vote no that are up for reelection this fall.
At some point, barry needs a dose of reality, I'm hopeful that this is it.

In the cases of both Slick and BOzo, when they "campaign" for somebody they end up talking almost exclusively about themselves, which the voters easily pick up on.

Your $500 a month benefit goes back in your paycheck. This is not to be read as a defense to this travesty
Not if they are paying a 400 per month fine it won't.
You aren't going to get anything, the company will simply pocket the extra hundred.

Sorry I didn't see your post either.
From what I have seen if you make up to 400% of the poverty level for a family of four ...which is about 100k you will get a govt chit to help you pay for it. Until of course, that program goes bankrupt.

"Prezzadizzle Earflaps McAwesomemathskillz"
Now THERE's a moniker. Nice work, whoever.
"there are many people who think this will shake out like a PPO, 25 bucks a visit, 15 bucks for medicine, oh the look on their faces if this garbage ever passes. Those looks would be the only silver lining in an otherwise very dark cloud."
Drider, please not to forget these self same stooges standing stunned like fresh clubbed harp seals when they realize legions of Doctors in the US have either retired or moved on to Costa Rican health care resorts as a result of P.E.M.'s (see above) superfab-o medicine show and giveaway cavalcade.
Lefties always seem to ignore the RE-actions to their moronic actions.
Eeejits.

We are not here as an occupation force
He's pandering here trying to sound like the "Anti-Bush" - what a tool.
And so is McCain for losing to this jerk and not playing hardball like he should have.
