Obama is Lying About the Permanent Bailout
— Gabriel Malor

President Pants on Fire said today in his weekly radio address:

Never again will taxpayers be on the hook because a financial company is deemed 'too big to fail'."

He also decried Republican "misinformation" about the bill.

Like the thousand-page healthcare reform bill, the President apparently hasn't bothered to read the financial overhaul bill. Here's a summary of the bailout provisions (PDF):

First, the bill contains a $50 billion fund for resolution of systemically risky institutions. The bill allows a 2/3 vote of the Financial Stability Oversight Council to deem any firm (financial or non-financial) as coming under its rubric and then authorizes the FDIC and Treasury Secretary to treat each of the firm's shareholders and creditors as they choose, without regard to bankruptcy law. Second, the bill gives the Treasury and the FDIC authority to grant an unlimited number of loan guarantees to systemically risky institutions. No Congressional authorization or appropriation is required. Third, the bill gives the Fed the authority to fund any "program" to assist these institutions accepting as collateral anything it deems appropriate.

So when the President says there will be no more bailouts, he must mean that Congress won't have to pass and the president won't have to sign the icky, unpopular bills. Because they'll have delegated permanent bailout authority to a couple Executive Branch agencies.

1 See, this is why you reichwing nuts is teh stoopid.  What the president said was technically accurate.  The money used for the bailouts will not come from taxpayers.  It will instead be printed and shipped by wheelbarrow to the companies that need it.  Duh!

If Reid "brings the partisan Senate Banking Committee bill to the floor next week, Senator Collins will vote against the motion to proceed," the spokesman said. "She remains hopeful that both sides can work together to reach a bipartisan compromise.

In the meantime, energy and resources can be spent on better things, like denying him a Democratic Congress with their heads well up his rectum. >>>The truth will come out after he's out of office (hopefully 1/21/13) anyway. In the meantime, energy and resources can be spent on better things,

I see this argument all the time.  What "time and energy" are you talking about?  I am very much concerned with the Constitutional eligibility question and I also address the other issues of concern.  This "time and energy" argument is as weak as anything I have seen, yet it doesn't stop people from running with it.

>>>like denying him a Democratic Congress with their heads well up his rectum. If you believe he doesn't belong in office, then it behooves you to make sure he can't do any harm while he's there.

Having the Constitution upheld is worth more, but you don't seem to care about that.  Sad.

Posted by: Mike Giles at April 17, 2010 12:12 PM (PcRFJ)

Sorry, but your argument is a non-starter. You should be concerned with the Constitution being treated like toilet paper, first and foremost, because all the other problems flow from that.  Democrats who were actually constrained by the Constitution would not be very dangerous.  That is, of course, the whole point of the Constitution.  You seem to miss this obvious fact.

"....Collins has joined all 40 other GOP senators in signing a letter stating they "are united in our opposition to the partisan legislation reported by the Senate Banking Committee." Collins previously declined to agree to pledge to vote against a motion to proceed if Reid did not negotiate, causing removal of that portion of the GOP letter. She balked because she supported starting debate on the bill, according to a source.

Her move came as the Obama administration urged Senate Democrats to drop a $50 billion bank liquidation fund, according to the Associated Press. Republicans have attacked the fund as a recipe for continued bailouts of Wall Street firms.

A senior Treasury official said the administration does not support the fund and that it is unnecessary, according to the report. The bill would allow the FDIC to use the fund, which banks would have paid into, to pay for dismantling giant failing firms.

In their letter to Reid, all 41 Republicans called the fund a source of future bailouts."

Third, the bill gives the Fed the authority to fund any "program" to assist these institutions accepting as collateral anything it deems appropriate.

The libs howled that Bush was executive power grabbing. He did nothing, nothing in comparison to President Redistribution.

What concerns me the most about this is that usually the executive branch doesn't try to permanently fix powers into the exec branch and congress doesn't allow it because they know that the power will shift away from their party and to the other one.

President Redistribution and his comrads don't seem to think that the next president will be another redistributionist or there will be no other president.

He is speaking before 200, extra hundred people here today only. ItÂ’s invitation only. He has not invited a single space worker from this space port to attend. ItÂ’s only academics and other high officials from outside of the country. Not one of them is invited to hear the President of the United States, on their own space port, speak today. Back to you Alex.

Â… truly pathetic.

If Honduras had had just a little more tinfoil, Zelaya might even have been successful.

I was talking along the lines of McLame, Voinabitch the two scrunts from Maine and Grahamnesty. If it werent for Olympia Snow letting the healthcare out of committee, the thing may have died out completely last fall. The one thing Obama has done that I'll tip my hat to him on is making that sack of shit Linseed look like an even bigger ass than he already is on his gas tax proposal.

I hear you and share your frustration.  However, the democrats strategy of campaigning as moderate and then moving sharply hard left  after the election
is different that the Rino phenom.
For instance, Maine is a blue state, and Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe represent blue districts.  Would you rather have a squishy republican or a full-on democrat?

Not always.  Not a single Republican (even the squishy ones) ended up on board with the final version of PelosiCare.  yes yes yes - noted frustrations on the opportunities for the squishy R's to stop it along the way.  If our goal is to replace a squishy R with a conservative R (a goal I like!) then lets just do it.  It's easy, right?  oh wait, it's actually rather difficult; and so we sometimes have to live with imperfection and political frustration.  Especially within the hard-on blue states who blindly worship the democrat party no matter what.

Well I'll give Obama credit for being an unusually unscrupulous President. His desire for the Federal Government to take over the Health Care Industry is completed (pending numerous court challenges and, hopefully, the Republicans -even the RINO's holding their seats in Congress and gaining many more seats in the House) now he's got the banking industry under his thumb, is about to put the "Financial Services" industry under the thumb of people he appoints (without confirmation hearings) and will no doubt go full tilt boogie for Cap and Trade before the November elections.  As a Progressive/Socialist in America, he has done a great job for those who want a Nanny State.

But he's destroying MY America. What ever happened to the idea of personal responsibility to go along with personal liberty? And, as much as some of you may not want to be reminded of this, George W.  Bush had to deal with a Democrat controlled Congress in 2007 and 2008.  I don't know whether or not  TARP was necessary to save the American Economy; I DO KNOW that Obama and the Democrats are going to make it difficult for anyone to succeed in private industry.  And that IS what they want. Take a look at the States - what one thing do Detroit, Cleveland, and the other Rust belt big cities and states and California, New York  and New Mexico have in common (other than failing State economies)?  If you answered "They've all been controlled, at the very least in the state legislative arena, by Democrats" you win the prize.

It's called crony captialism, where the upper class pay most of the taxes so they also have most of the power in congress because congress needs them.

It doesn't make sense at first until you realize that the upper class has the ability with the help of congress to have their income doubled or more. While they pay more taxes they also take home much more income. It perpetuates itself by giving the lower and middle class free stuff and low or no taxes to keep the democrats in power. This gives lower and middle income voters a sense of doing better but in reality the income gap widens with more going to the upper class.

Regarding the permanent bailout bill---the Senate version is S.3217.  Can't get a pdf yet, but can get the House version (H.R.4173) -- guess who sponsored it?

Have a laugh at the bill's 'title' (introduced in the House by Bawney Fwank, into the Senate by Chris Dud):

"OFFICIAL TITLE AS INTRODUCED:
A original bill to promote the financial stability of the United States  by improving accountability and transparency in the financial system, to end "too big to fail", to protect the American taxpayer by ending bailouts,  to protect consumers from abusive financial services practices, and for other purposes."

We can safely assume that any legislation introduced by Frank/Dodd will do the exact opposite of what it says....we know it's pure bullsh!t, designed to allow even more unaccounted suckage of our money.

Not much as far as I can tell, it's more populist bell ringing than anything else. A couple of things may change like dirivitives being traded on the stock market instead of between friends and banks may not be able to trade stocks on thier own account as much.

I'm not sure if those two things will make things worse or better though. The only profit banks are making right now is by trading, without it they would still be losing money.

157 I spent a few minutes going over this POS bill. I note that, not only does this POS not address the actual cause of the banking collapse, but it just tacks on another layer of regulations and creates new bureaucracies in the government to nationalize banks without going through congress.

It also requires yet another set of "minority affairs" offices in every department created by the bill.  So what we have is more fascism, more communism, more payoffs to the unions, and more pandering to minorities in violation of the civil rights act of 1964.

It is no wonder that no Republicans voted for this POS and 27 Dems voted against it.  Yes, the only thing bipartisan about this bill is the opposition.

Republicans in the Senate say they will not vote for it without some "fixes".  I hope the commies hold out because there is nothing in this bill to "fix". The entire thing is crap.

If they want to "fix" the causes of the banking collapse they will have to wait for a Republican congress.

170 This is what I wrote to one of my Senators:

Sorry to bother you AGAIN but I am AGAIN newly alarmed by some pending legislation coming before you.

I realize that you are in the minority party right now but overall you strike me as a pretty sharp guy and a good thinker, heck you make being a SENATOR look like a dignified and lofty position. So glad we have you.

I'm not anything like such a dignified personage as a United States Senator, in fact, I'm pretty lowly on the status totem pole (6 hours to prepare a tax return with the help of $100 worth of fairly sophisticated software shows that I didn't even clear $25,000 last year) and yet I have concerns.

I'm quite sure that Chris Dodd or Chuck Schumer would just as soon have the likes of me executed on sight as answer impertinent questions, but by the grace of God, I landed in AZ and I have you as a Senator.

What is this that I am reading about the "Financial Reform" Bill that sets up a $50 BILLION fund for resolution of "financially risky institutions"?

Isn't that pretty much setting up a PERMANENT welfare ENTITLEMENT for politically connected entities that can get themselves deemed "too big to fail"?

How on earth is this kind of dubious and yet GINORMOUS pot of money set up completely outside the control of CONGRESS or any sort of remotely ACCOUNTABLE member of the government?

I would not blame you for laughing at my concerns, since I am not someone who would normally seem to have much of an interest or a stake in the dealings of high finance in the nexus of Wall Street and the Capitol in D.C..

But as the low man on the totem pole I have learned, most painfully and personally, over the last 3 years that I had better PAY ATTENTION to the dance that Goldman Sachs (et.al.) alumni who become powerful people in various DEPARTMENTS of the Federal bureaucracy.

Because, these people have demonstrated that they have no problem with lighting the world's economy ON FIRE, just because they can.

Don't give them the power to do it in secret behind the closed doors of a Federal bureaucracy, backstopped by the taxation powers of the United States Government.

It won't work out well.

As the low man on the totem pole, I can tell you that Sh&# does roll downhill.

I don't WANT to remain a low income U.S. citizen but I'm starting to doubt the POSSIBILITY of changing my economic status in a country that  seems bent and determined on gaming the political system to favor entrenched, rent-seeking, crony fat-cats over any other possible outcome.

Man, if I lived or had a business in California, I wouldn't think of moving out of state into AZ.

I would start thinking of moving to some place like Chile.

That's sad.

Progreeoverpeace claimed, without evidence:

"Sorry, but your argument is a non-starter. You should be concerned with the Constitution being treated like toilet paper, first and foremost, because all the other problems flow from that.  Democrats who were actually constrained by the Constitution would not be very dangerous.  That is, of course, the whole point of the Constitution.  You seem to miss this obvious fact."

****************************************

The obvious fact YOU miss is that you have NO court holdings that support the idea that a person born in the US with one non-citizen parent is NOT natural-born.

You can argue your position until the cows come home, but there's NO LEGAL AUTHORITY for your position.  All you guys do is argue around the point inferentially, which doesn't cut it.

In Barack's case he would have had to register as a British citizen in order to claim the benefits therefrom -- since he didn't register, and his dad didn't register him,  he was at no time under the jurisdiction, nor did he ever "owe allegiance to", the British Crown.

IOW he would have had to assert his right to be a British citizen by descent.

I would enjoy reading your legal analysis as to why Wong Kim Ark, who was declared a citizen at birth of the United States even though both parents were Chinese ineligible for citizenship, was not also "natural born".

In any event, no court is going to retroactively apply a new standard to Barack.

Yes, the Clintons are as sleazy as they come, but they are incompetents.  All those tales about the political genius of the Clintons were just jokes (as anyone who ever watched "The War Room" quickly came to realize).  Clinton never got 50% of the vote and would not have even had a chance had it not been for Perot.  And you saw how the Clintons folded the minute Bill made that remark about Jesse Jackson and the primary vote - which was true.

No, the Clintons can't do anything right, so arguments that they would have figured out the natural born citizenship angle are without any merit.

No need for that, but the fact is that dual/multiple citizenship obviates natural born citizenship.  Period.  The only reason this situation has been allowed to slide through is because so many were worried about the cities rioting.  But, the joke's on them, since the cities are going to burn, anyway.  The Indonesian Imbecile wants the cities to burn.

So, we get the worst of both worlds: an ineligible Precedent bent on the destruction of our nation and a willingness on the part of many conservatives to toss the Constitution aside, for fear of the mob.  Great.  We have arrived at an ochlocracy.

This is why this nation cannot be fixed.  Too many taboos and rules and traditions have been violated.  The American creed has been tossed out with the trash and that cannot be recovered with anything less than a serious discontinuity in the operation of this nation - or, much more likely, a new nation.

177 Just to put you some knowledge, volcanic eruptions are not driven by combustion. They emit mostly sulfurous gases and silicate particles.

From a USGS website:

Ash column generated by the eruption of Mount Pinatubo, a volcano in the Philippines Luzon volcanic arc, on June 12, 1991. The climactic eruption of Mount Pinatubo occurred three days later on June 15, 1991, and was one of the largest eruptions of this century. The climactic event lasted about 9 hours and erupted over a cubic mile of rock material. It injected a 20- million ton sulfur dioxide cloud into the stratosphere to an altitude of more than 20 miles. The climactic Pinatubo cloud was the largest sulfur dioxide cloud ever observed in the stratosphere since the beginning of such observations by satellites in 1978. It caused what is believed to be the largest aerosol disturbance of the stratosphere this century, although smaller than the estimated disturbances from the eruptions of Tambora in 1815 and Krakatau in 1883. Sulfate aerosol formed in the stratosphere from sulfur dioxide in the Pinatubo cloud increased the reflection of radiation from the Sun back into space. Consequently, the Earth's surface cooled in the three years following the eruption, by as much as 1.3 degrees ( Fahrenheit scale) at the height of the effect. The sulfate aerosols also accelerated chemical reactions that, together with increased stratospheric chlorine levels from man-made chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) pollution, destroyed ozone and led to the lowest ozone levels ever recorded to date in the stratosphere.

Man is just a tiny, silly little self-important thing.

184 I like amusing myself w/ Psychic predictions and checking them out, almost all tend to be hillariously wrong (the funniest being that McCain would win the election, die of a heart attack, and Palin would become President and be the anti-christ). But a very little bit of them strike me as incredibly right, such as the Psychic Twins who have helped cops w/ cases and predicted 9/11 in 1999, but were never seriously taken enough when they tried to warn the govt. (though plane attacks on the world trade center buildings were already being talked about in CIA circles) and the Presidential Psychic Jeane Dixon who predicted FDR's death, JFK's death, and Reagan's presidency.

Anyhow while most psychics tend to skew democratic and make republicans out to be evil, these psychic interestingly enough have predicted bad things for Obama. Dixon, the psychic to the Presidents predicted that the President of the 90s would be caught in a sex scandal, that great bloodshed would take part in the President after him's term, and that the President after that would lead the economy to failure, this would follow w/ a great economy, and a President that would go down in History but that in the 2020s we would see a big war that the US would win and China might be involved...

185 I am reminded of Vigo's mandate in Ghostbusters:

"Chose the form of your destruction."

Banks, big or not, do not generally go into bankruptcy when they fail - they are taken over by the FDIC or FSLIC.  Once the Agencies have elected to insure the majority of deposits - backed by the US Treasury - you own the problem and the only argument is the form of the resolution.

Both Wachovia and Citi were equally defunct.  Wachovia was taken over and acquired by another bank, Citi is a bailout in place.  Both required considerable taxpayer money, both gave the government as much control as it wanted.

There are differences, sure.  Citi officers and stockholders remained in place although they took a large hit.  But the real difference is the timing of the government hit, delayed in this case and many others.

As with the case of the S&L's 25 years ago, politicians are unwilling to step up to the real problem.  The entire S&L industry, as a whole, had a negative net worth as early as 1981 when Reagan took office, but the solution took almost his entire term in office.  By the way, congress had a big hand in engineering that problem also, by allowing S&L's suddenly to go into commercial lending when they were ill equipped to do so, and other things.

At some point in the last several years U.S. banks held 1.8 trillion in shaky loans on a capital base of 1.4 trillion.  A problem any way you slice it.  And this IS the problem, not the form of their death.

So instead of debating how we handle defunct banks, we should be talking about how they got that way in the first place.

As long as congress agrees to insure the bulk of deposits while committee chairs and Agency heads engineer crap loans in the pursuit of bonus millions, we will have this problem.

And it less matters how we deal with it - kind of like the decision to bury or cremate.

The form of the destruction is Congress...and some forget that.

188 the fact is that dual/multiple citizenship obviates natural born citizenship

Note that technically, this argument isn't a "birther" argument - because it doesn't assume anything about birth. I get rude to commenters who use "birther" arguments. This argument deserves some respect.

But I'd like to see some backup of this legal "fact", that dual citizenship obviates natural born citizenship.

I recall various right and left antisemites hollering that Israel's Act Of Return made Joe Lieberman a dual citizen as of 2000 and then 2004. But Lieberman never exercised this right. I think you'd have to consciously accept another nation's offer of citizenship. So Lieberman doesn't count.

>>>The obvious fact YOU miss is that you have NO court holdings that support the idea that a person born in the US with one non-citizen parent is NOT natural-born.

Which is why the court needed to take this case and make a ruling on the operational definition of 'natural born citizen'. There is not even any risk to doing it, since they can punt and just declare that holding 163 other citizenships doesn't stop anyone from being considered a 'natural born citizen'.

As to evidence that people thought the way I claim, I have one former President who thought that having a non-citizen parent (father) at birth (in the US, BTW) obviated his claims to being a natural born citizen. That was Chester Arthur, who hid the details of his birth because his father was, interestingly, British, when Chester was born in the US. So, cool your jets on your idea that this concept had never been broached before.

But, it's nice of you to argue that something that has never been resolved by a court and that no one can point to any amendment clarifying it (as the writers of the 14th specifically decided not to mention 'natural born citizen') should just be ignored. Good stuff there, effin.

>>>You can argue your position until the cows come home, but there's NO LEGAL AUTHORITY for your position. All you guys do is argue around the point inferentially, which doesn't cut it.

Actually, you would be totally and wholly incorrect. There was tons of legal authority as most SecStates had the legal responsibility (by their state laws) to verify eligibility of people before they were placed on the states' ballots. As recorded in the D'Onofrio case against New Jersey, the SecState just took the parties' word for the eligibility of the candidates - which is why Roger Calero, WHO IS NOT EVEN AN AMERICAN, was on the ballot for the Presidency.

The courts, of course, decided that Jersey voters had no standing to ensure that the people on the ballots they had to choose from were actually eligible to be there ... because voters have no such rights, evidently. More great stuff. I wish such standards of standing were applied to eco-law and the many bullshit discrimination cases that our courts entertain daily.

Now, you're just making shit up. Good try, though. And don't forget Indonesia. But, you would be against anyone claiming that any of this should even be investigated to determine eligibility.

>>>I would enjoy reading your legal analysis as to why Wong Kim Ark, who was declared a citizen at birth of the United States even though both parents were Chinese ineligible for citizenship, was not also "natural born".

Wong Kim Ark didn't address 'natural born citizenship', though it is noted in the dissent. Dual citizenship is a class of American citizen that didn't exist at the time of the Founders and the writing of the Constitution. That is a fact. It didn't exist, of course, because the Founders found the idea repugnant. But, you would argue that they would be cool with dual citizens being included in their class of 'natural born citizen'. Okey doke, there.

And there is nothing retro-active about this.  The Constitution has been around for a while, you know, and the natural born citizen clause has been there since the beginning.

We should make them do it as the Founders did, with a piece of paper and a quill.

OK, I think that seems inappropriate, but I havenÂ’t seen the movie yet so IÂ’m only judging by the previews. Is it really the type of movie that 10 year olds should see?

Until we admit as a country that we have a problem with the escalating violence of young people going unchecked in this country, and we acknowledge that the way parents are parenting these days has created a large part of the problem (instead of continuing to blame television, movies, video games, music—yes they are a factor, but not the whole thing) we will see more and more situations where young people feel free to behave as animals because no one will stop them.

201 What other nations could a "dual citizen" of the US be part of, in 1790? France - "oldest enemy". Britain - not yet finished with its most spectacular bit of enemy-ness, the burning of DC. Spain - also suspect. And don't get me started on the various angry Indian nations on the frontier.

The US was alone in the late 1700s and dual citizenship would have been national suicide. If times have changed, we should have had a formal Amendment saying "why yes, of course we trust half-citizens whose memory of the US starts at about ten years old to be President".

PS. Chester Arthur was a complete mediocrity as President, by the way. A sack of potatoes would have got more done.

Because it is fundamentally nihilism and they can smell it.

What is the best possible outcome of the "He's not really a U.S. citizen and therefore not really eligible to be POTUS" faction?

I mean really, if, in your wildest dreams, what would happen if you had pictographic evidence of BHO's  infant gigantic ears tearing through the labia of his mother in Kenya as witnessed by 7 diplomats from the U.K. who happened to be hanging around Africa at the time?

The issue only hurts us when people on our side try to marginalize and humiliate the people who are raising the issue that Barack Obama did not provide a real Birth Certificate.

Equating them with 9/11 'truthers' is absurd. The so-called birthers (a pejorative term) are only asking that Obama show his damn b.c., whereas the 9/11 skeptics have conconcted an implausible and outlandish conspiracy theory.

Posted by: Zimriel at April 17, 2010 03:32 PM (QJfkg)

There's a difference between an offer of citizenship and brithright citizenship. Lieberman could travel to Israel as a non-citizen. One who has birthright citizenship in a nation cannot do that, whether they want to accept the citizenship or not.

On The Precedent's own, FightTheSmears site, he pastes this from factcheck:

“When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu, Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom’s dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children.

Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982.”

---------------------------------------------

As I mentioned above, Chester Arthur was convinced that birthright citizenship to other countries was dangerous enough to have to hide.

And I would just point out the it is interesting that one must argue the circumstances of the Indonesian Imbecile's nationality by birth to get to 'natural born citizen' status, but would then have to ignore the same as we would accept from other countries to keep it. In any event, that none of this was even investigated (we have to take the word of a proven liar that he never swore allegiance and allowed his other citizenship to automatically lapse - which doesn't make a difference for my argument, but would have to be looked at seriously, anyway) is the strange part, no matter ones thoughts about the legal issues. And Indonesia is another part of it, that, at the very least, called for official investigation.

But, in the end, this is more of a question of reasonable investigation and verification of whatever standard one would adopt to satisfy their notion of 'natural born citizen', which The Precedent certainly has many problems with and has never proven to any official body.

Not even close.  We have evidence of that from her own health scare push in 1993.  What has happened in Washington is that someone who has nothing but contempt for us and our institutions has gotten in and he is determined to break our system.  Shrillary, as dumb and leftist as she is, would never have even thought to do what the Indonesian Imbecile did.  It took someone who has no American sensibilities, at all, to act the way he has acted.

This should all be obvious.

As to what you wrote at the beginning of your post, you either didn't understand most of what I wrote or are going out of your way to be obtuse, so as to show how much you can mock and ridicule anyone who would stoop to actually follow the Constitution and the clear traditions of our nation.

Honduras worked out okay because the Hondurans had suffered through dictators and loved their constitutional republic - fighting to keep it.  The fact that Zelaya's only support came from the White House (and the south/latin america marxists) says it all.

Interestingly, The Precedent's administration (and the genius at State) refused to issue visas for the Honduran government to be represented at that insane UN meeting, instead issuing visas for Zelaya's junta. The funny part (if you have that sort of humor) was that Zelaya's rep at the UN was an old Honduran terrorist from the 80's - a bomber.  He was Honduras' version of Bill Ayers, essentially.  Of course, no one reported on this, except for Greta.

Remember when the Left was saying all kinds of stupid shit about Bush being king for life and we're not going to have any more elections? Any time this type of nonsense came up, we'd often say what? We'd say the Left was projecting.

Well, Rush (or was it Beck?) was joking yesterday about Obama never leaving office. Maybe it's not so crazy, after all. Obama is young, he's ambitious, and he's, well, a communist dictator who think he knows best.

If he gets reelected, and if the Democrats stay in control of Congress in 2010 and 2012, and if 30 million new Democrat voters are added to the roles via Amnesty, and if he appoints a few more leftist Justices which shifts the balance of the Court, we'd could have a real problem on our hands come 2016.

Of course the stars would have to align perfectly for that disaster to happen, but Obama, a campus buffoon, pretty much stumbled upon the United States presidency through serendipity. The man was born with a horseshoe up his ass, for sure.

Seeing he floated up on out shores as an adult, the question was just  WHAT passport did he use to get here. I don't think so, because it would address the specific class of 'natural born citizen' and not plain 'citizen'.  But, it would likely be useful in a later case about anchor babies.

We have many problems swirling about citizenship issues, not least of which is the fact that people who are naturalized as Americans have to take an oath of citizenship that starts out with:

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;"

(which is an artifact of the strong feelings this nation had about split allegiances) but we still have many naturalized Americans who retain their other citizenships, in clear violation of the oath - along with many Americans who take similar oaths abroad and retain their American citizenship.  We have come to a point where people are actively encouraged to ignore legal wording and clear intention, which is a very, very bad sign.

There is a rumor that in Hawaii at the time you could just tell the government that your kid was born in Hawaii and they would give you a birth certificate. I don't know if it's true or not. I feel pretty certain though that no court is going to take this issue up. It has been tried and failed on numerous occasions. Someone would have to have proof he wasn't a citizen to ever get anywhere and there is more proof that he is than isn't. A lot of people are under the impression Barack is an only child...because that's the impression he and his handlers want to give.

But Barack has a few siblings and guess what? None of them were born in the U.S.

Guess what else? Barack Obama isn't even his original birth name!

This guy Barack Hussein Obama is as queer as all get out. Something stinks about this guy, and it's not just his failed trip to Denmark.

The anchor baby problem is one of the interpretation of the 14th and what "subject to the jurisdiction" means.  It is clear to me that illegals are not "subject to the jurisdiction" of the US, since they are here illegally (i.e. outside of the jurisdiction of the US government, since US jurisdiction would say that they are not allowed to be here), but lawyers have very much enjoyed ripping that phrase to semantic shreds.

252 Well, Rush (or was it Beck?) was joking yesterday about Obama never leaving office. Maybe it's not so crazy, after all.

I don't listen to Beck much, but the day after HCR was jammed up America's collective ass Rush made a comment about "if we have elections again", or something to that effect, and he most definitely was not joking. It chilled me because Rush has always been the last radio host to suggest things like that, and I remember the mutterings that went on in some circles during the waning days of Clinton. In 20 years of listening to him I have never heard the kind of sustained urgency and anger that has been in his voice nearly every day since.

Denigrating the people that want to see Obama's (real) long form birth certificate, rather than settling for the abstract provided by Hawaii are doing nothing more than helping the other side. When you spit on your own friends to prove how "fair" you can be to the Dems, that in the end will always hate you, you are marked as an imbecile who's judgment cannot be trusted.

If this really were a non-issue, Obama would simply provide a copy of the long form and be done with it. Instead, he is spending millions to fight having to show it and that ALONE should be a HUGE red flag to anyone with half a brain. That is not how things work in the real world, and not how things work for Obama (no matter what world he thinks he lives in) either.

The "Easter Egg" in the entire birth certificate controversy probably isn't that he was born in Kenya, but could be something else that is extremely damaging or embarrassing that no one is talking about now, and that truth needs to be run to ground. In the meantime use Obama's refusals to provide that document as another means to question his legitimacy and to give the Dems just one more thing they have to counter.

Even if a the court took up this issue, found Obama to be lying about his citizenship I don't think they have any power to do anything about it. The constitution only gives congress the power to remove a president. That's why the court would never hear the case, they would defer to the congress.

The reasoning behind the constitutional requirement that only American born become president is to keep those who may have other loyalties out of office and for the president to have an innate understanding of the ethos and mission of the US.

He hates the US. He has no concept of what it means to be an American and I haven't determined where his loyalties lie---other than with radical idealology. How can a man raised by communists in Indonesia and Hawaii, schooled by radicals and indoctrinated by black liberation theology have the first clue about the US as it is meant to be.

The intent of the law is clear. It's a shame they couldn't see into the future see that the letter of the law might be followed but the spirit would be manipulated by communist forces.

281 Look, let's cut through the bullshit:  the

British nationality Act of 1948: does not refer to Kenya at all.   That act did not convey British "citizenship" on Kenyans.

"(3) The following are the countries hereinbefore referred to, that is to say, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Union of South Africa, Newfoundland, India, Pakistan, Southern Rhodesia and Ceylon".

That act, plus others preceeding it, conveyed UPON BRITISH SUBJECTS a whole bunch of different statuses short of what WE call citizenship, one of which was that certain nationals of certain colonies, protectorates, etc. could not live in Mother England.   Also, voting rights were not conveyed.

Does anyone really think the Brits conveyed citizenship as we know it to all the hundreds of millions of people who were subject to the British crown.  What they did was to make a bunch of people Commonwealth Citizens, a whole different status that is NOT the same as a citizen "owing allegiance" in the historical sense

Go out and read the various articles about this :  there is NO agreement that Barry was ever a British subject, either directly or through the descent of his father.  Please take note that citizens of the Republic of Kenya are NOT British "citizens", so ask yourself how Barry's father could ever have been, given that in 1948 Kenya and the Brits were in about to enter into a period of political turmoil and violence.

Ask yourself further how an American court could pick its way through a thicket of complex British law and come up with an "answer" that would be logically compelling ----ESPECIALLY since the courts and congress have broadened  what qualifies as being "natural born".

As for Indonesia:  unless Barry formally renounced his citizenship before a US official it matters not a whit that he may have met Indonesian requirements to obtain a passport.  NOTHING his birth or adoptive parents could have done would have allowed them to take away Barry's US citizenship. THAT'S WELL-ESTABLISHED LAW.  Stuff about how people couldn't go to school in Indonesia w/o being citizens is simply bullbleep.

Having said that, I suspect Barry's hiding his "original" birth cert because it might say his mom and dad were not married.  But that would STRENGTHEN those who argue, as I do, that he was natural born, as what ever extent the Nationality Act of 1946 applied to his father, that Act speaks directly to legitimate in-wedlock births.

And if anyone wants to argue that single moms in Hawaii don't give birth to natural born citizens, please have at it!

I also suspect Barry gamed the system by using his Indonesian passport when it suited him, and by posing as a "foreign student" when it gained him perferences and AQA status.

SO what I would like to see are his grade transcripts, his application for financial aid, the formal notice that he took and passed the Illinois bar exam (I freakin doubt it),  and whether he ever claimed to be anything other than a US citizen.

If somebody ever presents credible evidence that Obama is not eligible for office, then he is leaving office regardless of whether he wants to.

How exactly do you envision this sort of peaceful transfer of power taking place?

When did I ever say anything about a peaceful transfer of power.  If all of civilization burns, then it was Obama who set the fire.

I'm not a birther.  I will not argue either way about whether that piece of shit is eligible to hold office because his past has been deliberately obscured.

However, I am sick of hearing the argument that nothing can be done about it now if credible evidence showing that he is ineligible for office suddenly surfaces.  If that ever happens, my response is mine alone to formulate.

Posted by: Deety at April 17, 2010 05:22 PM (aVzyR)

Not really.  He's much more a product of Indonesia, where he really grew up and spent the whole of his formative years (ages 5-10), soaking up third worldness and developing his thirst to exact revenge on the US and the West, as is a sentiment rife throughout the third world.  And, to top it off, his commie Mom dragged him to Indonesia just as a commie dictator had finally been tossed out with much violence by a somewhat US-friendly one.  That was where the Indonesian Imbecile grew up and formed his main view of the world.  You have to look no further to see why he is how he is, though the rest of his life was just steeped in even more marxism and America-hate.

Posted by: progressoverpeace at April 17, 2010 01:31 PM (N49h9)

301 I didn't really understand, eventhough I sorta knew it on an intellectual level, how many overt communists there were in the US before WWII. I recently read (ugh) a biography of Dorthy Day which made it very clear that there was an extremely large communist presense in the US before the war. McCarthy was absolutely right in seeking to expose them and typically was alinskyed by the left. Thereafter anyone who used red as a slur was made fun of as insane. These evil forces have been at it for a while. Obama is their chess queen.

303 Story at Fox:

Bill Ares is suing the Univ of Wyoming because he was prohibited from giving a speech there.

I don't think that "freedom of speech" thing is what he thinks it is.

Posted by: Vic at April 17, 2010 01:42 PM (QrA9E)

304 Frankly,  I think the "natural born citizen" angle is NOT why he is hiding that birth certificate.   I think it more likely that there are other reasons that it is hidden.  Possibilities include:

1.  His father was not Barack Obama, Sr.  but Frank Marshall Davis
2.  His parents (whoever they were) never married
3.  His race was written as something other then Negro (which would have been the terminology at the time)

#1 would remove his entire narrative in his biography.  In addition,  his father would have been a communist.

#2 also removes the narrative,  making his mother a liar or him

#3 would show his mother was ashamed of his race

It's very interesting to me how all of his documents are sealed.  We had to learn about George Bush's dental visits and all of his school records,  but on this guy we get nothing.  And what's even more interesting is that no one in the press bats an eye.

Posted by: Miss Marple at April 17, 2010 01:45 PM (4DwVn)

305 312 He can stand on the street corner and deliver his speech. He's sueing because the state won't PAY him to give his speech. There's a difference.

306 From the story (from AP so grain of salt)

Ayers, who is a professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago, makes college speeches and is routinely picketed, but the University of Wyoming last week banned him from using any university venue for a planned April 28 lecture.

Ayers and student Meg Lanker sued on Thursday, asking a federal judge to issue an injunction and allow the lecture. The lawsuit alleges the ban violates free speech rights and the freedom to assemble.

309 Sorry Jim in San Diego.  Hate to hear that I am a litmus test FAIL in your book because mostly I get the feeling that I'd like you a lot as a person.

I will admit to denigrating the whole "positive proof of identity" camp because really, I don't think that they will ever be satisfied by any documentation.

They know that there is something fishy about this dude and they are right.

I don't think that I have made fun of them per se but I will admit to being a little bit frustrated as of late by the energy and passion I see wasted in a bootless attempt to deny the legitimacy of the guy who is our President.

This guy in the White House is to, his bones, Anti-American.

He is also a product of America.

A certain whack-a-doodle, hateful and destructive segment of America to be sure but definitely one of the fruits of this country and it's culture this past 40 some years.

Why is this so hard to understand?

Posted by: Deety at April 17, 2010 05:22 PM (aVzyR)

You would like me as a person because I'm so frigging awesome.

Don't worry about what level of documentation that the "positive identity and heritage crowd" (I just made that term up) will demand until we cross that bridge. If Obama produces the long form of his birth certificate and that raises more questions then we should ask them. Who cares how long it goes. The longer that issue leads, the harder the Dem beast bleeds.

You could speculate about the future intentions of the lunatic fringe of the lunatic fringe forever and never have an answer, so don't worry about it until we cross that bridge. If those people then go too far (whatever that may be) then call them on it at that time. As it stands now we have nothing of substances in the Obama documentation area and that has been engineered for a purpose by the Obama camp because it helps them. We should not aid and abet them in hiding the truth.

311 I think pretty much half of our population needs to be boiled away into space, they are just too fucking stupid anymore and can;t tell their asshole from a hole in the ground. I was watching the fuck face fuck talk about how people claim he is a socialist but can never offer proof. Well, for one thing, people all across the country have been offering proof  in one way or another. Real easy , if you support and press for traditionally socialist programs, get props from 3rd world socialist dictators on your efforts, hang with fucking communists your whole frigging life, systematically take over one industry after another, preach redistribution of wealth, side with wannabee marxist dictators in south america and come down hard on the democracies that oust them....then dude, you are a dyed in the wool GRADE A fucking socialist, not to mention an America hating asshole of the highest order.

The other thing, as he giggles and says nobody can prove it, I couldn't help thinking that this is just what the criminals say to the courts....you got no proof. If somebody accused me of being a socialist I would remove their teeth and then give them one long ass laundry list of PRO American stuff I did in my life. All this marxist douchebag did was say "hey, you got no proof". THAT was very telling, and nobody seemed to pick up on it.

When did I ever say that I was looking forward to it?

Does pushing your head in the sand make you feel that much better?  Does it also grant you the authority to decide for me what I should do about it?

You anti-birthers are Obama's useful idiots.  Whether you know it or not, you travel with him.  Can't you just leave them be and simply accept that there isn't enough evidence to make the call that he is eligible or ineligible?

Think it over for a minute:  If unimpeachable evidence that Obama is ineligible for office suddenly surfaced tomorrow, then what do you think will happen?

If he uses the power of the executive branch to maintain power, then what?  Does everyone pretend like it's all a bad dream that will go away by itself?

If he leaves office, then what do we do about all his executive orders and anything he signed into law?

What about agreements his State Department has entered with foreign countries?  What about the commissions he signed to appoint officers to our armed forces?  What about the authority of federal law enforcement agencies and the disposition of active prosecutions?

The shit would hit the fan hard, and everyone will be wearing splatter.  If this happens, the people responsible are Obama and everyone who helped him obscure his past--including the anti-birthers.

We are not facing this [admittedly outlandish] scenario because of anything *I* did.

I am fuzzy on where the Libertarians and Randians overlap, but most of the Libertarians I know seem to pick and choose which laws they'll follow.  And the objectivist pages I've seen seem to emphasize personal happiness to such an extent that it left it open to me whether or not that would be sacrificed for the common good (or rule of law).

Personally I think our drug laws are stupid and get people killed in mexico and the south west. If marijuana, at the very least, was legalized, i would be willing to be their would be a large drop in crime and a massive destabilization of cartels. I know they make a lot of money off coke and herion, but marijuana is a big cash crop as well.

That's the sentence I keep going back to, PaleRider.

A supermajority of some bogus committee is the only obstacle a couple of appointed officals have from doing whatever they want to any company.

Run some scenarios: Say there are three car makers in the country, and the one that the government doesn't control is the only one doing well. Or there are two supermarkets in your town and only one has unionized workers. Or a bank holds the paper on a lot of houses in a district represented by an outskpoken congressman. Or a very successful company pays its people very well.

All of a sudden, Ford or Safeway or First Niagara or whoever is deemed "systemically risky" and lookee-lookee there are "red flags" in their financial statements.

Are Libertarians Anti-Government?

Short answer:  No.  (limited government is the actual answer)

"The term “anti-government” is getting tossed around a lot these days, and used rather indiscriminately to describe libertarians, libertarian-ish Tea-Partiers, hatee groups, and violent individuals (not to mention opponents of specific leaders and regimes in countries around the world). That’s a pretty wide spectrum, and journalists and politicans ought to be more careful with their language. In the meantime... [here's this:]

For the past several years, especially since the Oklahoma City bombing, the national media have focused a lot of attention on “anti-government” extremists. Libertarians, who are critical of a great deal that government does, have unfortunately but perhaps understandably been tossed into the “anti-government” camp by many journalists.

There are two problems with this identification. The first and most obvious is that many of the so-called anti-government groups are racist or violent or both, and being identified with them verges on libel."

371 I really have a hard time taking seriously any U.S. political movement that seems intent on ignoring laws with which it doesn't agree.

I used to check out the Rand site regularly and I don't recall them ever advocating "ignoring the law".

They advocate eliminating laws that redistribute the wealth. They are not quite the same thing as the libertarians.

Posted by: Vic at April 17, 2010 02:49 PM (QrA9E)

372
Libertarians cont...

"The second and ultimately more important problem is that libertarians are not, in any serious sense, “anti-government.” It’s understandable that journalists might refer to people who often criticize both incumbent officeholders and government programs as “anti-government,” but the term is misleading.

A government is a set of institutions through which we adjudicate our disputes, defend our rights, and provide for certain common needs. It derives its authority, at some level and in some way, from the consent of the governed.

Libertarians want people to be able to live peacefully together in civil society. Cooperation is better than coercion. Peaceful coexistence and voluntary cooperation require an institution to protect us from outside threats, deter or punish criminals, and settle the disputes that will inevitably arise among neighbors—a government, in short. Thus, to criticize a wide range of the activities undertaken by federal and state governments—from Social Security to drug prohibition to out-of-control taxation—is not to be “anti-government.” It is simply to insist that what we want is a limited government that attends to its necessary and proper functions."

What is the truth?  I don't know what it is.  Have you seen his birth certificate?  I haven't.  You can no more say he is eligible for office than a birther can say that he's not.

Also, it's really nice having you around to decide for everybody what is and what is not a waste of time.

I jumped into this because I am sick and tired of hearing the argument that it's too late to do anything about it now.  If it ever comes to light that Obama was not eligible to be POTUS, then he cast that die when he decided to run.

the whole birth certificate thing.

All that needs to happen is one state signs into law that before any presidential candidate appears on that state's ballot, they must present their orginal BC to the SOS . Not a letter from the DNC verifying the qualifications, but the BC of the candidate must be verified by the SOS of that state.

If this gets signed into law in any state, Obama will not run for a second term since he won't be able to appear on the ballot of that particular state. He has never presented his BC, just his Certificate of live birth. And oh yes, there is a difference between the 2.

For me, I really don't know whtat the truth is, but I get more suspicious because he is spending over 2 million a year hiding all his records, if there is nothing to hide, release all this info. Heck, we have to show our BC just to get a driver's license.

Then the right, assuming the mantle of fool and not liking it, backpedals to look cool: see Newt, Graham, Brooks, Newt, Frum, McCain, etc etc

Right then slaps head and says, Lefties you are right! That was a stupid issue. I will now go out and beat up on the remaining right who didn't see how wise the left really is!

No offense, dagny, but it's a little more clear-cut than that to me.  The enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy.  So long as my enemy's enemy is not threatening to me, then I should leave him be.  And, if my enemy's enemy might have a point, then he might someday be my friend, and it would be stupid to burn bridges.

An anti-birther close to me told me that he's embarrassed by birthers.  I asked him if he was a birther.  He said, "of course not."  So, why, then, should he be embarrassed by birthers?

It's bad enough worrying about what others might think of your beliefs.  It's downright suicidal to worry about what people might think of beliefs you don't hold that they try to pin on you through some loose association.  You may as well be handing your opponent a scimitar while baring your neck.

Certain counties here don't sell at all on Sundays, some sell after 4 o'clock pm and some are still dry all year long. Here, if you go to a restaurant on Sunday, you can't have a drink with your meal until after 5pm

Well, I wouldn't be able to have one as a pet, but they're good dogs. I went to the pet store today, & there's a man who brings his Newfoundlands so that people can pet them. Both dogs are therapy dogs, so they are even more well-behaved & they love people.

458 #463  Quick Google search brought this post up.

Study shows that wet counties actually have lower numbers of Texas DWI arrests

However, It only makes sense that dry counties would have more driving while intoxicated arrests than wet counties if you think of it in simple logistical terms. If you are in a dry county at home or a get together and you run out of alcohol and you have to drive a longer distance to get more, your chances of getting arrested for DWI are going to go up. As a Texas DWI lawyer in Austin who has seen DWI arrests across the state, it is clear that these statistics indirectly prove one other fact and that is even if you ban alcohol people who want to drink will drive the distance to get it regardless.

Short answer - it's not clear/cut.

Posted by: Kratos (missing from the side of Mt Olympus) at April 17, 2010 04:24 PM (c0A3e)

459 Just because the county is dry don't mean shit. People just drive farther to get their liquor. DWI's and crime is still the same

Posted by: Ma Bell at April 17, 2010 04:24 PM (IxouX)

460 Do dry counties have less crime, dwi, etc.?

I don't have any stats, but it's been my experience that dry counties here in Texas tend to be nicer. They also tend to be smaller, so it may just be that, always pisses me off to have to drive an hour or two for beer though.

Democrats loved to liquor up mobs to break into county jails and lynch blacks, accused rapists, etc.

Ohio finally caved, and will allow four casinos in the next 2-3 years. most states subsidize the horse tracks with big purse money from "The casino's" they also do not have any Indian tribes living in the states as best I know.
