— Dave in Texas I suppose I'm glad to see him take a break from the healthcare bill wonderfulness campaign trail to do something about his other duties.
Barack Obama has told US troops on his first visit to Afghanistan as US president that they are there to help Afghans to forge a "hard-won peace".Addressing soldiers at Bagram air base near the capital Kabul, he thanked them for their service and said they would prevail against their enemies.
They were there, he said, to "keep America safe and secure".
Glad isn't exactly the right word, but I'll acknowledge he's doing something he should do. He's the Commander in Chief, and our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines are deployed in a war zone, carrying out our nation's mission, a mission he has endorsed. If he has the courtesy to travel halfway around the world and say "thank you", well good.

Okay, not really a surprise since he's been doing it for almost a year and a half now.

Anyone see this? Obama made 15 recess appointments today:
WASHINGTON – Fed up with waiting, President Barack Obama announced Saturday he would bypass a vacationing Senate and name 15 people to key administration jobs, wielding for the first time the blunt political tool known as the recess appointment.
The move immediately deepened the divide between the Democratic president and Republicans in the Senate following a long, bruising fight over health care. Obama revealed his decision by blistering Republicans, accusing them of holding up nominees for months solely to try to score a political advantage on him.
"I simply cannot allow partisan politics to stand in the way of the basic functioning of government," Obama said in a statement.

In a 5-4 vote Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court declared for the first time that the Second Amendment to the Constitution guarantees the right of individual Americans to keep and bear arms. I'd like to give him props for this, but, considering the political situation he's in & the fact that more of our troops keep getting killed in Afghanistan & it doesn't seem to touch him at all, I can't.
Does Obama even feel anything other than anger? I don't think he's capable of shedding tears. At least we know that Pres. Bush strongly supported the military & that each tear shed was real. We also know that Bush 43 was an extremely patriotic man. I watched part of Obama's speech & it didn't seem he meant it.

Isn't that what the military does? Kill the enemy? Kill Taliban. Kill the Afghans we don't agree with? The ones who wouldn't turn over al Queda terrorists? The ones who wouldn't tell us where bin Laden is?
Or are we there for forge hard-won peace?
Because I thought we were there to track down and kill terrorists and anybody who was aiding them. I didn't know we were forging peace, whatever the fuck that means.
Look Dave In Texas. I'd appreciate it if you woulnt' re-post uncritically White House propaganda and expect me to fucking swallow it.
Or at least when you do sign on to Barack Obama's propaganda campaign, at least give me a fucking reach around.

Agreed, but the problem with this guy is that you can count the things he's done that are "presidential" on...well...one finger.

Do those members like giving it up the ass? Or taking? Or maybe both?
The History Channel should have an episode about it.

I wonder if the American left still hopes that some strong-minded person will frag the Commander In Chief like they were urging when George W. Bush was making surprise visits to Afghanistan.

I can't stand what Obama is doing to my beloved country in general. But I must say that he has pleasantly surprised me regarding Iraq, Afghanistan and even Pakistan. I expected him to cut and run by now.
He dithered much too long on the Afghan escalation, but at least he did two-thirds of a surge. You give American troops 2/3 of the numbers they need, they will give you a victory. He has stuck with the Bush strategy in Iraq. His push on the drone attacks has been a success also.
There is one thing about this that gives me pause. I know he didn't want to take any of the actions listed above. That means the military demonstrated to him that the enemy is very dangerous and convinced him to behave in a serious manner. Fear of a massive attack or other giant problems on his watch are the only reasons I can imagine that would cause him to behave in this way.

So, here we read that Obama isn't in Afghanistan to thank the troops or to urge them on.
He's there to lecture Hamid Karzai on how to run a country with merit-based hiring systems. Or fucking something.
A little more research could go into these posts. I don't need White House transctiptionists here at Ace O'Spades.
I can go to whitehouse.gov to read their propoganda directly if that's what I want.
Sheesh.

I heard a decent smattering of cheering and applause during the CinC's greeting to the troops. Question, how quickly did it take to assemble the pencil-pushing cheerleading squad before Obama rolled through the door in a golden ray of light?

Good Point! I saw nothing but administrative personnel at that gathering, which brings to mind one day in 'Nam that they extracted us out of the bush to see Bob Hope at Long Binh AND all of my Grunts kept their weapons until it was over and they took us back out.

Good news, comrades: Obama is going to get more forceful with Congress.
Gibbs said that Obama told him the night of the House vote that when people bet against him, they don’t realize that “I’m just that stubborn.”
I thought being stubborn was bad? Oh, wait--that just refers to "Bush's" wars. Perhaps Dear Leader should consider getting more serious about Afghanistan & researching what victory means.

Hell, it's an air base. To a Gyrene, even if there's heavy weapons fire at the far end of the runway, that's the very definition of a FOB.

Obama loves the troops so much he wouldnt even meet with the ones in Germany that were laid up in the hospital because the military brass wouldnt let him bring his press and camera detail along during the campaign.
I'm sure he had no intention of using them as political props.

This is the last movie I ever went to in a movie theater. I took my Dad. We both wept. As violent as it was, it seemed necessary to make the point of how He suffered and sacrificed for those He loves.

I watched it with the Youth Group on Wedenesday. It was the third time I've seen it and it's still a massive gut-punch.

President Obama's words have been contradictory but his overall message has been consistent.
I was extremely disappointed when he was elected and my dismay and disgust has increased with each passing month. Who would have imagined that my Canadian Prime Minister would be more American in spirit than the American President?
We're living in very strange times, my American cousins.

Going soft?
he was bored of fucking us AND he ran out of Good Weed and Heroin....... THAT is why he went over there.......
the rambling message was actually:
" they are there to help Afghans to forget about a "hard-won peace".
"he berated them for their service and said he would prevail in supporting their enemies."
They were there, he said, to "keep him safe and secure while (he) was smokin' hash and formulatin' grand plans for one world government and a New Communist Order."
