— Ace I got a little pissed at myself last week for posting poll-post after poll-post. I wrote to Laura my funk is caused by their being less genuine news lately -- health care is basically now like Iran, as they busily continue building the bomb and we seem unable to stop them. And sort of have to just trust they're not completely insane.
I don't post stuff about Iran anymore because nothing has changed in this basic dynamic since the war in Iraq went sour and it became clear the American public had little appetite for any further warfare.
Anyway, health care sort of became like that. I thought the reconciliation thing was pure fan-service for the nutroots. Now I think they're really going to try it, with a real effort to actually succeed. (As opposed to "trying" with the starting intention of failing and saying, "Hey, we tried.")
Polling is sort of like that too. But here's a somewhat interesting if somewhat predictable twist on the polls:
Barack Obama now has a negative approval rating in every state he flipped from the Bush column to his in 2008. In each of those places his level of support is now in the 44-46% range. ItÂ’s probably a good thing he doesnÂ’t have to run for reelection this year. He can only hope things start turning around for him once the midterms are in the rear view mirror, much as they did for Bill Clinton.

They will probably try to get as many GOP Congressmen as they can drunk and in bed with hookers the night before the crucial vote - with the hookers told, "There's an extra $5,000 in it for you if you get him to miss the vote." However, I think that tactic works better on Democrats, who have forgotten the standard set by one of their patron saints, Jesse Unruh, Speaker of the Assembly in California: "If you can't take their money, drink their liquor, f*ck their women, and then come in here the next day and vote against them, you don't belong here."

He cannot count on hope. There's not a thing Obama et al. have done or will do to get things to "turn around." A Marxist, anti-capitalist making enemies in every domain both here and abroad will continue. Small business and the middle-class, aka America's engine and salvation, will not give Obama support. Obama must count on expanded government employees and confiscatory taxing/spending to save his vision and job. It's now just a race to 2010/2012 to see if the nation can survive his administration's fingerprints before dumping it.

Ten House Dems Could Go from 'No' to 'Yes' on Obamacare [the corner]
the AP:
WASHINGTON – Ten House Democrats say they have not ruled out the possibility of switching their earlier "no" votes to "yes" on the big health care overhaul. That's giving Democrats a glimmer of hope in the face of unyielding Republican opposition. The House members commented in interviews Monday with The Associated Press.
The White House, meanwhile, is trying to create an encouraging atmosphere for lawmakers to make such a change. For example, the Obama administration is making a point of saying that Democrats are not using parliamentary tricks or loopholes to find the needed support in Congress.
The White House says President Barack Obama will outline his final "way forward" on health care in a Washington speech Wednesday.

It's one thing with Iran, sure, when they get nukes, that will be a huge problem. While all of us would like it if we could stop Iran, we all know it's not going to happen, at least by American intervention. But it's comforting to know that Israel will likely deal with the problem before we do.
But this health care thing is aimed right at us. We will be the next ones struck by dwindling standards of care and huge taxes to cover the government running 1/6th of the economy. It already hit all of our friends.
It's a completely different view of the train wreck when your on the tracks. So no, the daily updates, of how this fight is progressing, and it will go down to the wire, are all involving.
A handful of votes will likely decide this issue. I'm thinking no more than 5 in the house in the end.

I think the example of Ton Daschle has been extremely helpful. There's a guy who by rights should have ridden his defeat from the Senate into a triumphant return to Washington in a Cabinet post. That he decided in the interim to be a shady, corrupt lobbyist who couldn't be troubled to pay his taxes wouldn't have been a problem in times past, but nowadays even a Democrat Senate Majority Leader has to think ahead about how he might be held accountable for what he does after he leaves office.
More importantly, anyone who might hire a former Democrat Senate Majority Leader has to think that he can't just buy the guy outright with graft, but will have to make a show of obeying the law. And if the Democrats are in decline, the value of a Democrat former Senate Majority Leader falls.

People keep mentioning Bill Clinton, and how things turned around for him. Nobody ever seems to get this right. I remember exactly what happened.
1994, and the United States was utterly sickened by the disgusting agenda of Bill Clinton. The Republicans won an unprecedented series of elections to take over the U.S. House and Senate. Bill Clinton was Shell Shocked, as was the media. The Republicans immediately took steps to cut spending. Clinton and the Media were timid until Timothy McVeigh blew up the Federal building in Oklahoma City.
Thereafter, Clinton and the Media found their voice and became attack dogs. Republicans were Horrified that everyone (in media) was associating the terrorist with them. Some Kept fighting to control spending, and in spite of everything, managed to bring some fiscal sanity back to the Federal Government.
Thanks to the Republicans forcing cuts in spending, we got a balanced budget. Thanks to Timothy McVeigh, and the lying media (who gave Clinton all the credit, and continue to do so) and that fucking idiot Ross Perot, Clinton got a second term.
Nothing good came from the Clinton Administration. He is in no way responsible for doing anything useful to the Nation, nor even in getting himself re-elected. That was the work of Timothy McVeigh.

Obama is a rabble-rousing community organizer. He's a union lawyer. He specializes in a) scapegoating (class warfare, pitting one group against another), and b) extorting from one group (the haves) and giving to another group (the have-nots).
And that's why his popularity is falling.

I am increasingly coming to believe that Obama is not legitimate. I have always suspected it, but I've recently seen two pieces of data that make it seem all the more likely that he is not a legitimate President.
The first piece is this. Someone filed a FOIA request with the State Dept. asking to see Barack Obama's Passport application. (not the passport, just the application he filled out to get one.) The State Dept. claimed that they didn't have one on file.
If Barack didn't fill out a passport application, how did he get a passport?
We believe he had a passport because he admits to traveling from Indonesia to Pakistan in 1981. If he didn't have an American Passport, how did he do this? It is widely speculated that he did this with an Indonesian passport. If this is true, it is significant for the following reason. He was over the age of 18 in 1981. To use a foreign passport after the age of 18 is considered an "affirmative act" of allegiance to another country, and is legally equivalent to renouncing American Citizenship.
The Second Piece, is again, someone filling the state equivalent of a FOIA request with the State of Hawaii to see the Birth Index for the late 50s and early 60s. (The Birth Index is the list of recorded births, not the birth certificate. ) Apparently Barack Obama is not on the list. As a matter of fact, there is no listing for Obama, Dunham,(his mothers maiden name) Payne (his grandmothers maiden name) or Soetoro. (His Adopted fathers name)
While none of this is conclusive, it does make a thinking person go Hmmm...

It's looking more and more like the birthers are right. Probably not about all that foreign born bullshit, but just this week i've seen two new pieces of information I didn't have before.
Also, an Arizona legislative committee just voted to require an original birth certificate before being permitted to be placed on the Ballot. I've read somewhere that 10 states are attempting this.

Now I have no clue if anyone here is a "birther" or not, but rather than just posting about FOIA requests and communications w/the State Dept., they should post the actual documents that prove that they're not just talking sh*t.

His biographies were written to further his political career in the USA, so any mention there of the possibility that he wasn't a native-born citizen would be a huge admission against self-interest.

I'm not sure what to believe anymore. The Leftists that control the DemonRat Party have proven that they are willing to do anything to get their Communist Utopia.
In the beginning I beleived that there was no way that the DemonRats would risk a conspiracy when there was a clear path for them to feed at the Power Trough. Now...I believe that there has to be something wrong, because any normal politcal strategy would be to expose his legitimacy to discredit his oppponents to get something like ObamaCare passed. Some beleive that they won't do it because he is legitimate, and they can use it as a Political Wedge with their Base (i.e Birther Movement Retoric), but on the same token those same people can't answer some of the petite questions you have pointed out above.

It wouldn't have backfired if McCain had demanded to see it. The Media has ridiculed anyone who suggested Obama wasn't legitimate. They have stampeded everyone into ignoring this issue for fear of being ridiculed, yet there are some legitimate points.
Number one legitimate point:
A computer printout doesn't prove anything. It simply says whatever the printer wants it to say.
Point Number 2.
State Election boards should have demanded that a certified original be produced, or he wouldn't be allowed on the ballot.
#3. State Officials will not tell the truth about a birth certificate, and therefore their word is worthless as proof of anything. I recently found my original birth certificate from the Hospital I was born in. It is factually different from my current state certified birth certificate. I was adopted. All the names on my state certified birth certificate are all different from my original. (What i'm getting at, is the CERTIFIED birth certificate from the state is just a bunch of lies.)
And so on.

But it's comforting to know that Israel will likely deal with the problem before we do.
I wouldn't count on it. Israel is more internally divided than America. Personally, I think they'll remain paralyzed until it's too late.
I was involved with nuclear weapons at one time, so I have to censor myself when I speak because, when you talk about real nuclear strategy, in any context, it always comes off sounding horribly insensitive to the potential loss of human life.
That was me actually trying to say in a nice, not so much "sucks to be you" kind of way, that they would either solve the problem or eat the nuke that allows us to turn Iran into the worlds biggest parking lot. I was trying to be sensitive to those who might not be friendly to the idea that current global politics has Israel set up to take one for the team; and because we're not Israel, that fact kind of provides us with a minimal layer of security about the whole issue.
That whole line of thinking is grim, pragmatic, and borderline inhuman. Israel either deals with the threat, or eats the first attack. And that get's the rest of us off the hook till the expos facto, in which case, any level of response is instantly justified.
I was trying to be "nice" and when your talking about millions of people dying, it's kind of considered minimally cordial to expect someone may have emotional attachments to the country or some of the millions of people in it.

Israel would have to really, really trust Obama to believe that he would order a retaliatory strike against Iran if Iran hit Israel with a nuke (or chemical or biological warhead). Would YOU trust Obama to give that order?
That sets aside the question of how many casualties Israel could absorb and still remain functional as a nation-state. Even the 30,000 rockets Hezbollah now has aimed at Israel can only do so much damage as compared to one medium-yield A-bomb airbursting dead-center over Tel Aviv. Israel, I think, is much more likely to use a conventional attack pre-emptively than to "take one for the team" -- and even a pre-emptive conventional attack opens Israel up to massive retaliation by conventionally-armed missiles from Hezbollah, plus whatever long-range missiles the Iranians themselves can hurl at them.

It's the same doctor (Rodney West). But the story (which is repeated on Snopes.com) is a secondhand account from a woman who says she had lunch with the doctor in 1961 and remembers him saying, "Stanley had a baby - that's worth writing home about," meaning that he was amused that a woman had the first name Stanley. It's hearsay, and a story told more than 45 years after the event; it tends to confirm that Obama was born in Hawaii, but it's certainly not definitive documentary evidence.

The practice is common in all 50 states.
Apart from that, Hawaii has some WEIRD birth certificate laws. Because it's an island, and people are sometimes born aboard ship at sea, Hawaii allows them to claim a birth at sea as being born in Hawaii.
Oh, by the way, it is generally believed that Barack Obama WAS adopted in 1965 by Lolo Soetoro, so yeah, upon his adoption, or upon the divorce between Dunham and Soetoro, there's a pretty good chance the birth certificate got amended and changed a bit.

Whom?
China and Russia have business interests in Iran, so why would they do it? France and the UK are too pusillanimous to do it - especially with their fairly large internal Muslim minorities, who would be celebrating in the streets if Israel were nuked. Surely not Pakistan or North Korea. That leaves India, or Israel itself (presuming Israel retains a second-strike capability).
The same logic applies even more to Iran threatening the Gulf Arab states, which are unable to retaliate and which would have to rely on both the 100 percent effectiveness of America missile defenses (which ain't 100 percent effective) and the commitment of the Obama Administration to retaliate if any of them were hit by an Iranian nuke. I think that once Iran has a nuke and a missile capable of delivering it, the Gulf Arabs will fall instantly into line behind Iran in OPEC, in the UN and in every other way.

Ah, I see. Sad and sick, but completely true. Despite how much anti-American hatred there is in the more dysfunctional parts of the world, we're still one of the safest places to be.
And along similar lines, Europe is ahead of us in line to be threatened by nuclear proliferation in the Middle East. This applies to both nation-states like Iran, and suitcase nukers like al-Qaeda.
