I have a white neighbor married to a very bright and successful black man. I like them both very much. He is in a business where he watches and listens to a lot of video of talk shows etc.

She is stunned by how much time black people sit around talking about white people, what they think, what they did, their attitudes etc. She says that it's amazing how weirdly preoccupied blacks are with whites.

She told her husband that white people really don't sit around analyzing black people and their every action.

I told my husband recently that having this mofo in office has made me become more aware of race, and not in a good way.  I am an Asian woman who's parents volunteered at a rescue mission in Center City, Philadelphia every Sunday and many Friday nights when I was a child til I was about 10 years old. 

I became friends with a lot of Black and Puerto Rican kids at the mission.  I didn't care what color they were or how much money they didn't have.  In fact, these poor inner city kids dressed better than I did, so I really didn't understand the poverty until I was older.  I didn't know about their absent fathers, drug addicted mothers, underperforming schools and their subsidized housing.  I didn't know and I didn't care--they didn't talk about it. 

What mattered was how well you could play jacks, how long you could double dutch jump rope, how loud you could sing in Sunday school, how fast you could run.  My parents and other volunteers brought the  older kids to our house several times for picnics and what not.  They marveled at our house in the suburb, thought we lived out in the country, and thought we were rich (which just cracked me up).  My dad took the high schoolers to Atlantic City several times for a day at the beach.  I was astounded that these kids who were older than me had never seen The Ocean before. 

I have felt comfortable around people of any color my whole life.  Only now, I am distrustful, suspicious,  dismayed, and disgusted by liberals of any color.  It's getting increasingly difficult to be polite to these people.  I think that Barack Obama has done more to set the Black community back than any other politician who's ever held an office in the U.S.  (I say the Black community as a whole because they overwhelmingly support him even as he destroys the very fabric of a colorblind American society).

Very few things this President does are "accidental" he normally would rather take no action, than risk embarrassment with random action. Ace is right, this is no mere coincidence. It points to either Obama having watched the movie so many times that the speech is burned into his head and so by suggestion becomes the language that he uses OR he likes the movie and thinks that speech about systemic soft racism at the political level  used to maintain black people in poverty, knows that the reference will likely go unnoticed by those to whom the message is not directed, and conveys a message that his political opponents are malevolently acting to keep black people in a state of de facto economic slavery.

My son is in catholic school and has to complete community service hours every year. He tries to do them in the summer because he is in sports the rest of the year.

He was working at the same inner city football camp last night. Some very young anklebiter age 7 or 8 asked him why he was there. He said to help and to get community service hours. The kid said, "Oh, what did you get them fo?" At the risk of loosing his street cred, my son said he wasn't allowed to talk about it.

It actually upset him to know that a 7 year old knew that people got court mandated community service hours.

It has been years since I (re)read Malcolm X's autobiography, but I seem to recall that when he broke with the Black Muslims and went to Mecca (Hajj and all that) he became aware that white men were not inherently his enemies and came to follow the "content of their character" idea of Dr. King.
