In response to 71 - It's true Jefferson kept and read a Koran but not for the reason you imply.  He read it in response to the Barbary Coast pirate attacks on US shipping.... shores of Tripoli ring any bells???  He wanted an understanding of the enemy.  He decided a military response would be appropriate given his understanding of Islam from reading that Koran.  John Adams had not thought a military response was affordable or worth it but Jefferson did.

Make that at least two.  Jack Ryan was dirty-tricked out of the US Senate race by the illegal release of his divorce records, but before that, he stabbed Alice Palmer in the back.  Palmer was a state Senator who failed in a bid for a Congressional seat after tipping Obama to succeed her in the state Senate.  When she asked Obama to back out so that she could keep her state Senate seat, he not only refused to stand aside, he challenged the signatures on her nominating petitions.

But that's actually an indicator that he doesn't have the stomach for a real fight.  In a year when the Democrats had a huge ABC problem -- "Anybody But Hillary" -- and in which the Republicans went with the sentimental favorite rather than someone with a shot at winning, getting elected President wasn't all that hard for Obama.  He's not going to enjoy 2012, and he's got a track record of walking away from jobs that are too hard and at which he doesn't automatically excel.
