ObamaCare: Not So Dead?
— Slublog

reconciliation.jpg

Yes, it's Dick Morris, but given the arrogance the Dems have already shown on this, did you really think they'd do anything differently?

President Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate leader Harry Reid have all agreed to the basic framework of the plan.

Their plan is clever but can be stopped if opponents of radical healthcare reform act quickly and focus on a core group of 23 Democratic Congressman. If just a few of these 23 Democrats are "flipped" and decide to oppose the bill, the whole Obama-Pelosi-Reid stratagem falls apart.

Here's what I learned top Democrats are planning to implement.

Senate Democrats will go to the House with a two-part deal.

First, the House will pass the Senate's Obamacare bill that passed the Senate in December. The House leadership will vote on the Senate bill, and Pelosi will allow no amendments or modifications to the Senate bill.

How will Pelosi's deal fly with rambunctious liberal members of her majority that don't like the Senate bill, especially its failure to include a public option, put heavy fines on those who don't get insurance and offering no income tax surcharge on the "rich"?

That's where the second part of the Pelosi-deal comes in.

Behind closed doors Reid and Pelosi have agreed in principle that changes to the Senate bill will be made to satisfy liberal House members -- but only after the Senate bill is passed and signed into law by Obama.

Time to call your Congressfolks.

Nah, I didn't believe him either. (h/t: Allahpundit)

Yup. You've already lost the trust of a majority of the American people. Do this, and it's game over for the Dems, Bambi.

6 I don't even believe this. Face it, it's DEAD. There's never going to be a birth certificate signed, but it's OVER. You've got Dodd saying leave it alone, you've got Pelosi admitting she doesn't have the votes, you've even got Chris Matthews stating flatly reconciliation can't be used. It's over, except for a few diehard loons that want to pretend it ain't. But it IS.

That seems to be the thinking for Pelosi and Reid.

14 It's Barry's "LEGACY", he won't let it go.  However the Pelosi/Reid ploy counts on one hell of a lot of trust between the House and Senate Democrats.  Which I don't see at all.  If the House Dems pass the Senate bill, they're stuck with it.  And it ain't friendly to unions.  It's a given the 'mandatory insurance purchase' will be challenged in court.  If the courts don't back the plan, 'pre-existing condition coverage' falls apart.  And when that starts to unravel, the whole ball of garbage will start falling apart.

DO IT BARRY!

20 I'll take "Things That Will Never Happen" for $1,000 Alex.

That plan has way to many moving pieces, it assumes that Pelosi can keep all the Stupak abortion votes, liberals, replace 3 yes votes from last time and rests entirely on a promise Reid is in no position to offer (letter or not).

It's too clever by waaaaayyyyy more than half.

I don't doubt they are talking about it but it ain't happening.

Because the Newsmax article does not list the 23 congress creatures, I went to his site...

Now is the time to finish off the prospects of Obamacare with the Democrats reeling from the defeat in Massachusetts.

We must not trust them. The apparent reluctance of the House Democrats to pass the Senate version will evaporate once Obama puts his weight behind the bill and Pelosi starts to twist arms. Moderate Democrats cannot be counted upon.

So we need to target Democrats in swing districts who voted for the health care legislation in its first go-round in the House and convince them of the error of their ways. As the Republican floor leader in the 60s Senator Everett Dirksen once said “when they feel the heat, they see the light.”

Here is a list of twenty-three Democrats who voted for Obamacare and who are vulnerable in 2010. Its time to turn up the heat on them:

Harry Mitchell = Arizona 5

Gabrielle Giffords = Arizona 8

Alan Grayson = Fla 8

Mark Schauer = Mich 7

Carol Shea-Porter = NH 1

Mike Arcuri = NY 24

Mary Jo Kilroy = Ohio 15

Kathy Dahlkemper = Pa 3

Christopher Carney = Pa 10

Tom Perriello = Va 5

Ann Kirkpatrick = Arizona 1

Baron Hill = Indiana 9

Dina Titus = Nevada 3

John Hall = NY 19

Stephen Driehaus = Ohio 1

Paul Kanjorsky = Pa 11

Dan Maffei = NY 25

Allan Mollohan = W Va

Nick Rahall = W Va

Steve Kagen = Wisc

Marion Berry = Arkansas

John Spratt = Georgia

Zack Space = Ohio 18

"This plan, of course, is a total subversion of the legislative process.

Typically, the Senate and House pass their own unique legislation and then both bills go to a conference committee. In conference the leadership of both Democrat-dominated houses wheel and deal and iron out differences.

The final compromise bill is then sent back to the full Senate and full House for a vote and has to pass both to go to the President. "
...

So, once again, the dems HOPE to lie to the American people, & do so behind closed doors.  Where's C-SPAN?

Spending the next decade like the last decade baby-stepping 'independent-moderate' voters such as the Jill Dorson and her Regret Gang is not going to cut the crap.

They have to pass it in the house.  Stupak stood by his pledge.  His faction, Cao and blue dogs have to agree to vote.  It seems to me it's more to flip than they can get.  Plus, they have to TRUST Pelosi.

If that works.

They have to walk it through the Senate process with the hopes of gaining the publics support in the process.

This is a fight to the end from a very desperate position.

The left wing wants no part of it because there's no public option, and they don't believe that the "fixer" bill will be feasible.

Now, if you think November is going to be a bloodbath, check out the money quote from the Right Blogger conference held in Texas this past weekend:

The message heard over and over from just about all the panelists, was that the Right could beat the Left on-line and that our side clearly had the momentum. There was a genuine Tea Party atmosphere. There was euphoria over Scott Brown's recent win. Money bombs for Right candidates for office were also mentioned frequently. There was a definite emphasis on unity on the Right, and steering clear from divisive issues.

83 Rep. Grayson was on Chris Matthews's show spouting this same talking point.  He promised Chris that there will be a bill passed in 30 days or less via Reconciliation.  Matthews lambasted him, accused him of spewing "netroots talking points" and basically told him this was impossible.  The vid was jaw-dropping--blue on blue violence, a thing of bu-tay!  Grayson came across smarmy, arrogant and generally as a giant smug douchebag.

Correction:

John Spratt - SOUTH CAROLINA -  I have called him before.  He won't say what he's going to do until he votes.  A big, fat 'screw you' to people in his district.  This old fart needs to go, and I hope my vote puts him out.

85 I've posted this before, but a nice reminder is due, thanks to the topic being Obama's Cowardly Lyin'...

Victor Davis Hanson wrote about Obama's problem with the truth.
It's another reason why, coupled with this week's fraudulent "Elie Light" propaganda and bizarre claims about banks and now this BS about waiting on healthcare: the man is a contemptible liar.

Read the entire essay.  It's a good recap and analysis of Obama's total lack of veracity.

The longer people are unemployed and hurting, the less likely people will be to suffer the fools who bring 'healthcare' 'reform'.  People want jobs, they want the economy to recover, they want the burden of taxes they pay to go down, they want the threat of foreclosure on their home to go away.

They don't want a monument to the greatness of government which will 1) cost over a trillion dollars and 2) result in their own personal healthcare being rationed.

88 Just a quick thought and back to the game.  I wouldn't be so sure about the h/t Allahpundit article.  "No Senate action" doesn't preclude the House passing anything, as if you could take Obama at his word.  Lack of courage, abundance of self-preservation among House members is the more likely impediment.

I see Rep. Marion Berry, (D., Ark) is on that list of vulnerable seats.  Heh!  This from WaPo:

Arkansas Rep. Marion Berry is expected to announce his retirement tomorrow morning, according to three sources briefed on the decision.

Berry will become the sixth Democrat in a competitive seat to leave in the last two months but the first to announce his retirement since the party's special election loss in Massachusetts last Tuesday.

"The message coming out of the Massachusetts special election is clear: No Democrat is safe," said National Republican Congressional Committee communications director Ken Spain.

Berry, first elected in 1996, had been noncommittal about his re-election bid for months although, privately, his allies insisted he was planning to run for re-election.

While Berry had rarely been challenged in the 1st district over the past decade or so, the seat has a clear Republican tilt as Arizona Sen. John McCain (R) won it with 59 percent in 2008.

Arkansas will be a huge focus of Republican efforts in the fall with Berry and Rep. Vic Snyder (D) retiring and Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D) in deep trouble as she seek re-election.

People are truly suffering out there.  I would love it if someone in the media would do an expose of the high falutin' life-style of Barry and Mo.  We are talking about a man who's policies are causing immeasurable pain out there and he and his wife are living high off the gubamint hog (the 8.9 million dollar estate that they stayed at during Christmas costs $4000/night to rent, Michelle's prominently photographed in all kinds of designer outfits--last week's Photo of the Day on WhiteHouse.gov featured her in a $2,763 designer coat.  Someone analyzed five recent photos of her.  The average cost of  a pair of her shoes was 700.00 (5 different pairs).  If people knew how much money the Obamas spent on themselves let alone what they are trying to spend on expanding government, people would be incensed.  Especially since they try to spin themselves as these ordinary Joes who can feel your pain and are always talking about how we all need to sacrifice.

106 This is possible by the rules, but I can't see it happening.  There are enough dems who are more committed to keeping their seats than they are to ideology.   They won't all fall on their swords for Obama.

I really think plenty of dems who may have supported the health care monstrosity earlier now are really happy that they can get out of passing it, since their electorate will hold passage against them.  If they just voted for it, the voters may forget by fall.

I would not be surprised to see it come up, and be blocked by a filibuster.  From the dem's perspective, it's ideal -- it doesn't pass, so the issue stays alive, they don't get blamed for this horrible bill, and they can bash the nasty repubs for blocking it.

At the same time, Democrats expect more of their incumbents to retire, which could put additional seats at risk.”

1. Hang (and make sure that the hanging takes place in full view of the people) no fewer than one hundred known landlords, rich men, bloodsuckers.2. Publish their names.3. Seize all their grain from them.4. Designate hostages in accordance with yesterday's telegram.Do it in such a fashion that for hundreds of kilometres around the people might see, tremble, know, shout: "they are strangling, and will strangle to death, the bloodsucking kulaks". Telegraph receipt and implementation. Yours, Lenin. PS: Find some truly hard people."

Well well well. First they take a bipartisen bill dealing with funding of some stuff that passed the house with overwhelming support. Deleted everything in it and added healthscam to it so they can calim the bill "originated" in the HOuse for the purposes of satisfying the Consitution.

Then the get the house to pass the bill a second time without going to committee. The sign the bill into law.  An honest court would throw the bullshit flag on the obvious lie of the bill "orignating in the House" and stike the entire thing as unconsituional and fraudulent.

But needless to that piece of an abortion, they plan on coming back with all the more liberal crap the House wants such as the so-called "public option" and then pass that under reconciliation.

Now if I was in the House I would never believe that knowing how easy it is to tie up a bill in reconcilliation.

Most of the Dems in the House want no part of this crap until after the elections in which they are praying that they can hold on. I would score the potential for succedss on this ploy as very small. On top of that, it demonstrates the utter contempt that Obama and the Dem leadership have for the average voter.

The "purple" districts are already gone for the Dems. If Obama, Reid, and Pelosi keep this up going in to the elections half of the blue districts will be gone as well.  There very well could be a 100 seat turnover in the House as the Fox consultant said yesterday.

Don't ever doubt that it will pass.  The nuts on the left - Odummer's base - are demanding it.  And, he has to have something to say when he gives his State of the Union on Wednesday.  Besides, he believes that it is what "the people" - you know, we people that cannot think for ourselves - really want this only we don't know it because Marxists always believe that those in charge always know what's best for everyone.

Also, if you read the financial news regarding the status of the federal cash flow, there is none...and we can't have those living off the government - another large part of the base supporters - not having their (really our) money.  Those natives would then become restless.

Remember that the "fees" (really taxes) are to be collected immediately even though the benefits, if there are any, are not be realized for three years.

On top of that, China has made it perfectly known that they will not continue to purchase any more debt and the rest of the "foreign investors" are not real happy with the return on the treasury bonds.  Check out how much they have gone down in the last two days - along with the stock market.

Listen to what every one Odopey's people said on the "Sunday shows" today.  Health care is still item one.  He wants it passed so that he will be able to "move on" to jobs for his wonderful speech on Wednesday.

Don't every underestimate "taking advantage of a crisis" per Saul Alinksy.  The crisis in this case was the election last Tuesday.

Democrats are like serial rapists.

We've told them repeatedly that WE DON'T WANT WHAT THEY'RE OFFERING.

They insist that we DO want it, that we KNOW we want it, that we really should be grateful for all their attention because we're really not that attractive of a nation anyway, and that we ought to just sit back and try to enjoy it, because we're going to get it whether we want it or not.

You know, kind of like what Bill Clinton told Juanita Broadrick as he raped her.

Hey, America! "Put some ice on it."

149 If they can pass it by reconciliation then I would say the Republicans can reverse it by reconciliation.

150 Combine this with the fake Letters to the Editor about healthcare all over the country and last night's two hour Dateline NBC on healthcare, and it seems clear to me that they do plan to ram it through.

You know what drives me crazy about the WH talking points regarding Obamacare?  Blaming the insurance companies for rising premiums!!!

I might be wrong, but I believe in most States, premiums are controlled by an Insurance Commissioner.  Insurance companies do not arbitrarily raise rates.  They have to be approved by the respective States.  And companies have to jump through a lot of hoops to get that rise in premiums.  After spending months and hours and hours of time, it is not unusual for a State to turn down the rise in rates.

So, how is this the fault of the insurance companies?  I would think it is the fault of State who allows the rise in rates.  The insurance companies only request what they feel is required for them.  Keeps a lot of actuaries in business, I will tell you that!

Does anyone think that this convoluted process is actually going to pull anything off?  Does anyone think that the will to power of Nancy Pelosi is going to pull this out when members of her caucus are retiring so as not to face certain defeat?  When those who are remaining are looking at some way of holding onto their seats?

When Barbara Boxer is looking at a serious challenge?  When Beau Biden isn't going to try for Joe's old senate seat and will hunker down in the office he now holds?

I see this as a desperation move by the Dems, right into the face of reality.

BUT, BUT, BUT....

I was told that electing Scott Brown would irrevocably, undeniably stop ObamaCare.

When I suggested that maybe voting for yet another "Big Government" Republican might not be the best thing, or that it was continuing RINO business as usual, I was called a "Concern Troll" (whatever that is) and was BLAMED a priori for the passage of ObamaCare even tho I don't even live in Massachusetts.

How is this possible?  I thought all our problems were over with the election of Scott Brown pseudo-conservative messiah.

And, now I find out that you guys knew about this Reconciliation possibility all along, and even expected it?

How could you possibly know such a thing before the election of Scott Brown, if the election of Scott Brown is the only thing that could cause the Dems to consider Reconciliation?

How did so many of you know what "Reconciliation" was or how the Dems might possibly want to use it?  Especially if the election of Scott Brown is the only thing that would cause the Dems to consider it?

#32 GK:

I doubt that amnesty can be passed in the middle of a recession.  Just. Not. Possible.  The Democrats would be dynamiting their coalition even worse than they did with health care.

Example:  You want to see p.o.'d unions?  Try this.
