Obama's End Run Around Congress
— Gabriel Malor

Congress has delegated so much power to the Executive Branch that this type of power grab is not only possible, it's legal and it's common:

That's from Americans for Prosperity, an advocacy group. The group's vice president for policy had an opinion piece at Fox News over the weekend.

A taste:

While Congress considers sweeping new legislation to permanently institutionalize the bailouts and federal control of our financial system (right on the heels of their health care takeover, of course) several other sweeping power grabs are going on outside the spotlight of legislative debate. Indeed President Obama seems to believe that most of his sweeping agenda to transform the country can be accomplished without even a vote of Congress.

It's short; go read the whole thing.

Thanks to Mike S.

This was at a time when the UN was awash in corruption and behaving with no accountability. We needed someone at the UN; we needed Bolton at the UN.

101 O/T but relevant.   I think, anyway.
Tomorrow, our local Tea Party Patriots are holding their second annual Tea Party Rally.  For weeks now, the committee has been running ads saying that the rally would be held at Parkway Shopping Center, in the KMart parking lot.  For weeks.  All over the radio, in the newspapers, on flyers, etc.  On Monday, the corporate offices of KMart /Sears emailed the committee chairman and requested that they stop using KMart's name in their advertising.  No problem, the chairman said, we'll change the radio ads and we're looking for another venue for next year's event, anyway, because the crowds are getting much larger.  Problem solved, right?  Wrong.  Yesterday, the owners of Parkway Shopping Center received a letter from KMart's corporate legal department threatening that if they allowed the rally to be held in the parking lot of the shopping center at all, they would take legal action against them.  And...the threat worked.  As of 5 pm today, the radio ads were changed to state that the rally would be held at a local flea mall.
Gee, wonder what happened...

What if Starbuck's raises their prices of coffee to $10, will there be an Act of Congress to reverse it?

Good God, dude, what are you?  An airline association employee?

Coffee provision is not even analogous to the airline industry, whose employees can have us arrested for not listening to them.  They fly the skies on set routes, under strict DOT regulations.  There are already a host of market constraints that the industry operates under.  How is prohibiting charges for carry-ons worse than any of the myriad, byzantine regs they deal with now?

Give it up.

OT: American-Jewish leaders accuse Obama of abandoning Israeli security

The latest American Jewish leader to address a letter of deep concern over the public US feud with Israel is Ronald Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress. He voices the concern of Jews around the world not only about the nuclear ambitions of an Iranian regime with genocidal intentions toward Israel, but the deterioration of US-Israeli relations and the Jewish state's deliberate isolation.

The WJC president asks why this administration seems to blame Israel for the lack of movement on peace talks when it is the Palestinians, not Israel, who refuse to negotiate. Settlements were not the key issue when peace talks broke down before and they are not the key issue now.

Lauder then asks if it is true that America is no longer committed to a final status agreement that provides Israel with defensible borders. He goes on to ask if friction with Israel is part of the Administration's desire to improve relations with the Muslim world and warns that appeasement does not work.

Air travel is like sea travel, under the very strict rule of the federal govt. The absolute jurisdiction there dates back to the Magna Carta. They simply define minimum standards for something to be called a "Ticket" for travel. Because after you have booked travel is not the time to discover that your briefcase, or in at least one case, water to fight dehydration, is not included.

didn't read the thread but safety considerations, particularly with arilines are paramount.  I think a lot of this luggage roulette have to do with the rising costs of jet fuel and the weight of the plane.  The lighter it is I think the less jet fuel they use.

Anyways....a company has the right to put any price on their service....and I, the consumer, have the right not to use their service....eventually said company gets the message and becomes competitively priced or they go out of business....simple concept...supply and demand....

yeah, my point is who is that corrupt Mary Landrieu to decide how much a business charges for their product?

This is clearly a knee-jerk reaction to a bunch of people complaining about the fee. The simple solution is to not use that airline, anymore. No need to make a federal case out of it.

131 Oh I dont know maybe safety considerations vs the right of a COMPANY TO PRICE THEIR SERVICE.

You overstate rights. Again air travel is completely under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government. You as a person and a business have no rights when engaged thereof. The only basis in both Constitutional and British Colonial law places air travel on par with sea travel; Meaning the government gets to control every aspect they wish. Your right to travel does NOT extend into federal airspace. It is clearly a privilege at that point. Your right to conduct business does NOT extend into federal airspace it is a privilege.

Not a problem.  Obama's loan modification program will simply extend the benefits, and force the lenders to accept terms as dictated by the government. If the lenders balk at the Obama charity move, the government will simply pressure the lenders into bankruptcy.  That way, it will be easier for the government to cancel the loans and award the poor borrowers a home at someone else's expense.  Thank not?  Standby!
