— Gabriel Malor It seems the Times has decided to throw the President to the wolves in the hopes that a better candidate will come along by 2012. How else to explain yesterday's bombshell ObamaCare articles stating outright that the President's signature program is a tax and that it will restrict doctor choice? And then today's articles, including the GM, Chrysler article I posted about this morning, which in the second paragraph (!) suggests that the Obama Administration cost tens of thousands of jobs.
And then there's this:
Hundreds of thousands of Americans have enrolled in federally financed training programs in recent years, only to remain out of work. That has intensified skepticism about training as a cure for unemployment.Even before the recession created the bleakest job market in more than a quarter-century, job training was already producing disappointing results. A study conducted for the Labor Department tracking the experience of 160,000 laid-off workers in 12 states from mid-2003 to mid-2005 — a time of economic expansion — found that those who went through training wound up earning little more than those who did not, even three and four years later. “Over all, it appears possible that ultimate gains from participation are small or nonexistent,” the study concluded.
In the last 18 months, the Obama administration has embraced more promising approaches to training focused on faster-growing areas like renewable energy and health care. But most money has been directed at the same sorts of programs that in past years have largely failed to steer laid-off workers toward new careers, say experts, and now the number of job openings is vastly outnumbered by people out of work.
Labor economists and work force development experts say the frustration that frequently results from job training reflects the dubious quality of many programs. Most last only a few months, providing general skills without conferring useful credentials in specialized fields. Programs rarely involve potential employers and are typically too modest to enable cast-off workers to begin new careers.
Most job training is financed through the federal Workforce Investment Act, which was written in 1998 — a time when hiring was extraordinarily robust. Then, simply teaching jobless people how to use computers and write résumés put them on a path to paychecks. Today, even highly skilled people with job experience of two decades or more languish among the unemployed. Whole industries are being scaled down by automation, the shifting of work overseas and the recession.
It goes on, under the sub-head "Claiming Successes":
The Obama administration argues that expanded job training has already delivered success. As part of the nearly $800 billion stimulus package begun last year, the administration increased grants sent to states for training programs devoted to laid-off workers by $1.4 billion for 2009 and 2010. Those funds came on top of $2.9 billion allocated through normal budget channels for grants in those two years.Last year, the number of laid-off workers in job training reached 241,000, up from about 124,000 the year before, according to the Labor Department.
“These programs are really working,” said the assistant secretary of labor, Jane Oates. “These are folks who clearly want to go back to work and we’re able to help them get back to work. The investment in job training is one that’s not only going to pay off in the short term, it’s going to help us be more competitive in the long term.”
According to the Labor Department, 85 percent of laid-off workers who received training in 2007 and 2008 gained jobs within a year of completion. But the department does not track what percentage of them gained jobs in their fields of study and so far lacks any data for 2009, the first year of the Obama administrationÂ’s expansion.
Experts harbor doubts about the reliability of Labor Department numbers, which are derived from reports by state agencies that collect data from community colleges and employment offices whose training funds are dependent upon reaching benchmarks. Twice the Labor Department had to correct the data it supplied for this article.
Oh, yes, the Times just called the Obama Administration liars.
And then the double-wammy. After a few paragraphs on how "those who oversee job training" are also reporting successes:
The literature is not encouraging.A 2006 study prepared for the Labor Department found virtually no benefit for 8,000 randomly selected recipients who entered federally financed training programs in 2001 and 2002.
This isn't a friendly wap on the nose from the Times. This is their news desk editors wishing they'd voted for Clinton last time and hoping they'll get to vote for her next time.

ROTFL.. well, one thing's for damn sure those Wolves won't be able to drag Obama under the bus. The administration has thrown so many people under it already there just isn't room for one more.
I wonder if maybe this isn't the MSM's way of trying to engineer a primary challenge for Obama in '12, in the hopes of salvaging something out of this total dismal failure of a presidency or at least maybe providing some of the Dem's some political cover as if they wanted to do so but couldn't for whatever reason.
Hmmm.. interesting...

I suspect their purpose in finally printing the truth about Osma Obama is simpler, and has nothing to do with the Traitor-in-Chief himself. Rather, they have calculated that lying to the public is hurting their circulation numbers. Their surveys tell them the public isn't buying the Chicago Jesus's act any longer, and they've never met a trend they won't co-opt for themselves.
The Elites in the media can't abide an awkward liar or fraudster. They only appreciate smoothies. Call-Me-Hussein ain't smooth enough.

Let me clue you in, BC is only campaigning for those who supported in Hillary in the undemocratic primaries.
The problem Hillary has is that she has pissed off enough of her former supporters like me by sticking with the radical community organizer and promoting his radical anti-American ideas.
I am still on the email list for HillPac, yes with Carville slowing attacking appropiately, yes Hillary is getting ready.
But she has lost a LOT of supporters. I certainly will not be voting for her. She is a Obama-lite. And I hope Sarah uses this line. I supported Hillary and will defend her against any sexism, but I will not vote, fundraise or support her against a true fiscal conservative like Sarah Palin.

Speaking of job re-training, decades ago my grandfather was laid off in his mid-50s because the steel foundry he had worked in for 20+ years went under. So to put food on his table he learned how to pour concrete.
He didn't have any job re-training or anything else, he took it upon himself to learn a new trade and off he went.

and in 2010, they are voting straight repub just to stop the insanity of the community organizer.
I know you all think all dems are the same, we are not. I used to consider myself a conservative dem, I am probably more socially liberal than most here, but I am conservative in every other sense, since there is no such thing as a "moderate democrat" anymore, December 24th, 2009 proved that, I and millions of dems became an Independent and fled the undemocratic party.
And I suspect like me, they will never be voting for another damn demon rat again.

They [Hill and Bill] didn't realise that they were being set up since 2004, you see they did not want Howard Dean as the DNC chair, Dean and Donna Brazilla made sure to not count Florida and Michigan, and also made sure there were more caucuses instead or primaries.
And then in the caususes, many Hillary supporters were locked out. One such person was Latimer M. , a black civil rights leader, all this out right fraud was documented at: we will not be silenced 2008 dot com
This is why they want now for 2012 even more caususes, not 1 vote-1person primaries. Causues are much easier to bully people, primaries with a ballot is much harder to bully people.
then the racism came in, the "fairytale" comment by BC started it, Wookie said BC was a racist, then the RFK, Hillary is a racist.

Look, many in this country wanted less expensive health care. We wanted reform in the way of increased competition by the federal government forcing the elimination of state laws that stifle interstate competition which is clearly in the role of the federal government. We wanted regulations that allow small businesses, self employed, and other individuals to band together and form their own groups for lower rates. We want to be able to afford our own health plans and not have them tied to our employers so we don't have to suffer a job we hate simply because of the health plan. And we certainly didn't want unions exempt from all the regulations placed on us and our employers.
We wanted health care reform, not government run health care.
The Democrats need to get back to building roads, bridges, and schools and butt out of our daily lives. They should be passing laws that facilitate us being able to take care of things ourselves instead of mandating that government take care of us.

46 how to pour concrete.
Last year, my old front stoop rotted thru, and I needed to find somebody to pour a new one (I have no idea how to work concrete.) The first two guys I called never even gave me an estimate. The third guy took a deposit, waited two months, then demolished the old stoop, then disappeared for two weeks; I fired him. The fourth guy did a fine job, two weeks leadtime. I wondered to myself, in an economic depression like this, especially impacting construction, why it's so hard to find good builders? Is this usual in anybody else's recent experience?
Another thing: reading the comments, like 98% of you are focused on the political and media aspects of this story, but I'd sure like to see a thread on the economic and quality-of-life angle. That story scares hell out of me. A demand depression, skyrocketing productivity, short lifecycle for expensive skills, wide-open global labor supply competition all impact American QoL. Is there a solution? Even if you can reverse out-of-control liberal government, you still have all those other systemic challenges. You could elect Ron Paul president, Milton Friedman Sec Treas and Hayek Fed Head, and even they couldn't fix it, could they? Ace or Monty do a post on this?

You think James Carville has anything to do with this? Why do you think he went after Obama so aggressively WRT Obama's Katrina? That was the single most important, acute attack on Obama since President Over-Pars' election. It was not made without great thought, and Carville has friends in high places, too, who surely agree with his politics.
He and other beltway insiders desperately want to regain Executive power. Obama and his czars are destroying America and, more importantly to the elitist hacks, the Democrat label. The progressive movement has awakened Americans into action against neo-liberalism/Progressivism which stands to hurt Carville, the Clinton machine, and Democrat fellow travelers.
It's not that Carville, Clinton et al are against Obama's policies, they're just opposed to the pace of transition, the blowback from moving too expeditiously to Socialism, and the reality that they aren't running the show and dispensing perks.

The best way to cure unemployment is to seek employment with the intent of working for a living. I believe it's an ancient proverb, but I'm not sure. It's kind of like San Diego, I don't know what it means. I'll be honest, I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.
