— Ace Appoint a czar. Great! His way of saying "I'm too busy to deal with this and need someone I can fire to take the heat."
Now, a czar can be useful, especially if the president, like this one, wants to play golf 24 hours a day.
But why didn't President Genius figure out this was beyond his abilities/beyond his interest level earlier?
Everyone knows that when you appoint a czar, finally, stuff gets fixed!
60% of the time, it works every time.
"There will be more oil and more damage until this siege is done."
I remember Bush always telling us the war would be long and hard.
Didn't seem to buy himself any leeway for having said that.

If only The Founders had vested say, the executive power of the United States in a single office. Maybe we could call that office "The President".
There's no org chart answer to this, it's who does he give the authority to to act in his name. For weeks he's been telling us that's Admiral Allen. Now, it'll be, um, someone else.
Problem solved!

Mr. Obama named Michael R. Bromwich, a Washington lawyer touted as a government agency turnaround specialist, to lead the reorganization of the scandal-plagued Minerals Management Service, whose lax oversight of offshore drilling is blamed in part for the blowout of the BP-owned well.
Wonderful, so he's a) lawyer and b) a "government agency turnaround specialist".
Fills one with such confidence!

King Barry's BP investigation panel
Obama tapped Frances G. Beinecke, president of the non-profit Natural Resources Defense Council; Donald Boesch, president of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science; Terry D. Garcia, executive vice president for mission programs for the National Geographic Society; Cherry A. Murray, dean of the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; and Frances Ulmer, chancellor of the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

nerdygirl.
McCain was an Adm., so he had a good bit of executive experiance. Plus, as you noted, he can hold his head high for how he handeled himself while at the Hanoi Hilton. Obama has none of that. Hell, even Blago had more executive experiance.
Posted by: Hammer at June 15, 2010 04:08 PM (GkYyh)
Obama was wrong to compare this to 911, this is CHERNOBYL of the oil industry. A ecological disaster caused by lax safety and industry standards compounded by lack of government leadership.
In times of Crisis the American People demand and expect leadership from the President. We saw it with GW Bush on 911 then scorned him with Katrina when he showed lack of the same leadership. Obama's actions so far has been BLAME someone else and appoint someone else to clean up the mess.
Instead of quick decisive action Obamais using this disaster to further agitate the public toward his Green energy plans. Right now the Public Wants a Leader not a Agitator or Community Organizer. This is going to backfire on him.
Political Historians will look back at this day and say it was the beginning of the end for the American Left and the start of the next big GOP Revolution.

LOL. The feral government could drain BP dry without breaking a sweat. They are going to demand that BP pay for everything that bothered someone after April 20th, without even a tenuous connection to the spill. SHit, the feral government wants BP to pay for the cost of stopping drilling at other rigs.
The feral government could easily find 150 billion they want BP to pay.
Of course, BP is a shit company that tried to screw us over by pushing that Crap&Trade enviro shit. They deserve to die. But I don't want them killed in a way that exposes every other companyt o bullying by the feral government, which is what is happening.

we're back to being strangers
wondering if we ought to stay or head on out the door
Just once
can't we figure out what we keep doing wrong
why we never last for very long
what are we doing wrong.
just once
can't we find a way to finally make it right
to make the magic last for more than just one night
if we could just get to it
I know we could break through it.
Ohh ohhh
I gave my heart
but I think my heart may have been too much
'cause lord knows we're not getting anywhere
seems we're always blowing
whatever we've got going
and it seems at times with all we've got

There was a glaring cognitive dissonance moment in that speech. Remember when Obama was asked if America is an exceptional nation, and he replied that yeah, like Greeks think they are exceptional, like Spain? or some other nation thinks they are exceptional, in other words we are just another nation among nations.
So in this speech he points out American exceptional-ism and ingenuity will be brought to bear, like it always has in the past, to solve this problem. Really? Why not ask the Greeks, O, wait they are exceptionally bankrupt, or the Spanish, O, wait they are going bankrupt in a large part because of their investment in Unicorn green power.
He has no fundamental Americanism, so his speech makes no sense, call for the greatness of America to solve this problem, but he does not believe in the greatness of America. At least God forced this tool to acknowledge Him at the end and ask God to help usÂ….not so much into God Damn America, is he now?

I noticed with the Frank Luntz panel the black woman was the on who was all about Obama, while everyone else was not afraid to rip him to shreds.
I think I remember her : "I ain't gonna have to work on paying my mortgage, I ain't gonna have to work on putting gas on my car. Obama's gonna help me - if we help him, he'll help us."

I know EXACTLY what I'm doing. I have a vague notion that an Ohio militia group blew up the Deep Water Horizon. In order to mitigate further domestic terror attacks I'm building a 50 foot high razor wire fence around Ohio with guard towers spaced every 100 feet.
Those racist hillbillies will pay.

Reminds me of where I grew up in NJ. There were a lot of farms around but most of them grew cow corn for the Angus and Holsteins. The people from the city would clog the roadside stands for "fresh farm vegetables". What they didn't know was that they were buying the same shit from the Hoboken warehouses they got at their own supermarkets
Posted by: kbdabear at June 15, 2010 05:47 PM (sYxEE)
That was one of many earth-shatteringly stupid moments of the focus group. I mean, someone actually has to unlock the doors of the warehouse where the skimmers are stored and drive complicated machinery like trucks up to the loading dock. Then you've got to LOAD the equipment on the trucks and actually drive them to the Gulf. We won't talk about trains or transport aircraft 'cause the logistics are insurmountable... especially to an early-twenties liberal arts grad who learned everything he knows about science at an Earth First tree sit.

Logistics? To the Gulf of Mexico? Let's see, it's the terminus of no fewer than five Interstate highway networks, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Mississippi River. Yep, that's a tough one. Don't know how you'd get anything to such an inaccessible spot.
In 4/5 of this country, you could drop materiel into a mud puddle and it would end up there. And not to forget, the locks on the Sanitary & Ship Canal are still open, so you pick up the Great Lakes and the Saint Lawrence basin, too.

I predict that Barry's LBJ moment* will come when the first black pundit or celeb publicly states that they voted for Obama because he was black and they were wrong to do so because Barack has turned out to be the same old bullshit in a different wrapper.
Then Hillary! throws in her hat for the 2012 nomination (ala Ted Kennedy v. Jimmuh) to "save the Party" and chart a "third way" between the wingnuts and the moonbats. Call it a "reset we can believe in."
