— Gabriel Malor The President must be getting pretty tired of gays. He throws them a bone with the hospital visitation memo but they're still interrupting his speeches and chaining themselves to the White House fence. They want cameras because it keeps the pressure on him to actually do something about DADT, like he said he would.
The White House solution? Keep the cameras away:
Police chased reporters away from the White House and closed Lafayette Park today in response to a gay rights protest in which several service members in full uniform handcuffed themselves to the White House gate to protest "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."People who have covered the White House for years tell me that's an extremely unusual thing to do in an area that regularly features protests.
A reporter can be seen in the YouTube video above calling the move "outrageous" and "ridiculous."
The Park Police later allowed the cameras back, perhaps after realizing they'd gone too far. Or was it them? The Park Police is saying that the cameras were moved back on orders of the Secret Service. Secret Service says it was Park Police. Uh huh.
The six were eventually cut free and led away. The spent the night in jail; the arraignment is this morning.

I saw pictures of the people in uniforms. I hope they weren't really in the military, as they all looked out of shape, especially the woman, she had to be near 300 pounds.
Anyone know if they were actually in the armed forces or just broke out the costumes early this year?

I had to remove the press so they couldn't tell, it was my duty under the current rule.

Every time the Capital Police and/or Secret Service get an inquiry or request from anyone in the political establishment, it must be logged, with time and essence of message.
Absence of such log information, assuming presence of other information indicating call was made (which should be obtainable, esp. if made from government phone--or we can simply have a third party source of information for calls made to police numbers), will be prima facie proof of intent to use law enforcement for political purposes.

When the Olympics came to Seoul in 1988, the government was worried about the possibility of protests breaking out and ruining the games. They decided on a strategy that they hoped would work.
The students announced a protest. The cameras rolled. The students charged out into the streets. There were no police. After a brief period of milling around, the students went back to the campus. Over time, the press quit showing up because there was no real news value in the protests if there was no violence. With no press, there was no reason to protest, so the students quietly went back to studying.

FWIW I was part of a Lafayette Park protest once- we were demonstrating for the freedom to smoke the dried leaves and flower buds of a certain noxious weed common to many parts of the United States- we got a little carried away and decided to cross the street and yell rude phrases at the big white house beyond the fence- the local constabulary then appeared in force, on horseback, and ran us off

What is really stupid about all of this is that the de-facto military policy is Don't Care, Drive On. If Obama simply gave the order, they military would implement it immediately at this particular time. But apparently he can only try to vote present.

I'm not annoyed by their sexuality, at all. I'm against their position, but they have every right to protest and the media should have been able to cover it. The fact that the media don't care that they weren't allowed is what is really annoying. But, given the way gay groups have used the media's gay-promoting position to force all sorts of shit on society, and to try and bully people into many things, I think this is just a case of "live by the sword, die by the sword" ... sort of. (Not a perfect description of the mechanism, but you get my point)
But, I still don't understand why anyone cut them free. I would have let them stay there. (I say that half in jest, but if I could, I would leave them there until they begged to be cut away)

The Indonesian Imbecile will move on DADT (even beyond his Executive authority) when he thinks the time is right - i.e. when he thinks it will cause the most chaos possible and when he needs a distraction from something worse that he is trying to cause problems with.

OK, you win. I've felt the same way about imbeciles protesting logging by chaining themselves to trees. They tried that out in the state forests near Vernonia ... the timber company lawyers told them ( on vidoetape ) that what they were doing was dangerous, asked them to leave, and then, after 15 minutes, gave the logger permission to proceed.
Said logger, with a big grin on his face, started felling the old growth tree bu cutting it over their heads, and cut fast enough to fell it before they could unchain. One of the protesters was severely injured, but their were no fatalities, unfortunately. The resulting lawsuit was thrown out ... criminals don't get to sue victims for injuries they get while committing crime in Oregon.
