ObergrupenFhurerMcPollster: AZ Governor Significantly More Popular Since Signing Immigration Law
— DrewM

Compare and contrast....

No bounce for Obama post-Health Care (so says James Carville's poll).

Arizona Governor shoots up 16% in approval.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state shows that 56% now approve of the way Brewer is performing her role as governor. Two weeks ago, just 40% offered their approval.

The new figure includes 22% who Strongly Approve of the governorÂ’s performance. ThatÂ’s up from five percent (5%) before Brewer signed the law that authorizes local police to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant.

The bounce in the polls is also evident in new numbers on the November election. If Brewer is the Republican nominee, she would get 48% of the vote while her likely Democratic opponent, State Attorney General Terry Goddard, would attract 40%. Two weeks ago, it was Brewer 44% and Goddard 40%. Goddard is an outspoken opponent of the new law.

It can't be policy of course so it's obliviously racism!

Added: It really seems the left has over played its hand on 'racism' 'bigots', 'fascists' etc. They are like the boy who cried wolf and people are seeing that there simply isn't much behind the name calling.

Now it infuriates me when people like Olbermann, and random Op-ed writer at the Washington Post or NY Times goes off like they do but it's more personal than business. It's far more tiresome than it is effective.

It really seems that since the decline of Obama started about a year ago the left is simply playing to the base in hopes of holding the line as best they can. They aren't really trying to convince anyone, just rabble rouse.

Related enough: Geniuses want to boycott "Arizona Ice Tea". Problem is, it's a NY based company. Just another reason it's hard to take liberals seriously.

28 Isn't it amazing how out-of-touch most entrenched politicians turn out to be? They cry and moan about the plight of illegal immigrants so much that they assume their words turn into tangible support for their position on the issue.

Suddenly they are shocked and appalled that a huge majority of Americans don't give a shit about that particular issue and would rather see the existing law enforced.

Why is illegal immigration even an "issue" anyway? It should be an "issue" in the same manner sentencing guidelines are an issue. How hard do we penalize people who sneak across the border?

36 I'm surprised that no one is saying much about San Francisco launching an attack on Arizona and trying to boycott everything from the state, including their own employees' non-essential travel there.  This is a declaration fo war by California on Arizona and is something that I cannot remember happening in the US since ... who knows.

Funny how the despicable lying scumbag dems can use the most outrageous abuse of the Commerce Clause to have the federal government take over everything on Earth, but when a state sets out to specifically act in a way that the federal government was specifically designed to stop (and that the Commerce Clause was actually meant to do away with) they are all silent.  Amazing, really.

Meanwhile, I don't remember any other states looking to boycott San Francisco for illegally starting to have gay marriages ... that is the asymmetry of our situation.

But, this is why I keep saying that this nation is headed to split.  There just won't be any choice, since some states, and our federal government, are just at war with the concept of America.  That is the fact of the situation.

It was Rush.  They ran it on Fox.

My point is that one state going after another state like that is really unheard of and we adopted the Constituon to put insure that that sort of stuff doesn't happen - especially the Commerce Clause part, which a state-sanctioned boycott specifically goes against.  It's just amazing.  But, more amazing is that almost no one is pointing out how destabilizing and dangerous it is and how San Francisco, and hence California, is acting in a very treasonous way - literally.

71 Arizona Governor shoots up 16% in approval.

And you can compare that to Eliot Spitzer's approval rating, which was in the high 60's/70's before Shrillary mentioned supporting his "licenses for illegals" in the primary debate, which immediately sunk her campaign and Spitzer's approval fell to something like 35%.

The American people are firmly on one side of the illegal debate and the political and media machines are on the other. This is another issue that will serve to tear this nation apart, literally.

I used to have so many arguments with "conservatives", back during and after the Shamensty and the reaming the GOP got in 2006, about how Rove was no brain.  But, that was one of the few bits of liberal fantasy (that Rove was the "evil genius") that caught with many on the right, too.  I like Rove.  He's got a decent head on his shoulders, but he is not politically savvy.  Bush won in 2004 in spite of all the advice he got.  Bush won because he stood for victory in IRaq and because the Swift Boat Vets held the truth of Kerry's tour and medals to light.  But, Bush and Rove didn't know jack about where America wanted to go, as Bush's second term was a disastrous veering to the left on just about all issues that ticked just about everyone off.  Bush saved himself by standing firm on Iraq and having the best SCOTUS picks in a century, but that was about it.  On everything else, he caved to the left or enthusiastically pursued the leftward idiocy. - and I assume that Rove agreed, as he stayed on.

EJD: Well, I think, first of all, I am very curious. Where are you on this law? I mean obviously, IÂ’ve written against it, and I think itÂ’s a bad idea. Can I ask you what you make of this law? I canÂ’t believe as a good law professor you would think of this as good law.

HH: Well, I would not have promised, I would not have pushed it. I would not have made it part of my agenda. I donÂ’t think it helps the Republicans out. But I understand Arizona in the throes of the violence in Phoenix needs to do something. Whether or not it turns out to be irresponsible/responsible depends upon how it is enforced, which I hope will be rarely, and only against hardened criminals.

I think his response is that of a Hispandering squish; you may feel otherwise but imo a true conservative would've come out much more positively in favor of it.

We are still under a boycott by the NAACP which everybody but the NCAA ignores. The NCAA does not allow any bowl games OR playoffs (in non football sports) in SC while the boycott is ongoing.  For example none of the college world series games were allowed in SC last summer.

If I had been the governor of SC I would have called for all the colleges in this State to drop out of the NAACP and ban them from the State.  I would also call for an audit of the SC Chapter of the NAACP every year.

On behalf of my lesbian neighbors who are always nice to me when I walk my dog and otherwise are as quiet as churchmice, I wouldn't want to inflict that foul-mouthed lard-assed classless skank on any group of people that I don't feel completely negatively toward.  Maybe loan her to Tijuana animal trainers to see if she can teach a donkey to say "My friends" when it splooges.

211 Now if she'd only repeal the tax increases. There would be a big bounce from that.  Maybe abolish state taxes.  We'd love her forever.
Too bad she's in favor of Prop 100.  Just another bleeding heart underneath the facade as far as I can tell.  Oh sure, she'll pass a law about illegals.. but will she get the cojones to crack down on the budget?

214 I don't know that it is right for someone to be able to insist that I show papers if I'm just walking down the street.  I understand the ire that people feel over illegal immigration...  but this law is just bad.

From what I understand about it, if you don't have the right papers, you can be charged with a misdemeanor even if you were born here.  It does not matter what you look like....  someone could just say they had probable cause (maybe someone said you were illegal or maybe they just don't like you)...  and if you don't have proof on your person, you're busted.

It goes too far.  And if it is allowed to stand, other states will adopt it.  And then it will just slide into the default category of things you can get imprisoned for.  That's the way law works.  People pass laws to attack a particular exception to the rule....  and then it comes to define the rule.

People are excited about the law because it addresses a particular crisis.  But in the end, they are going to get more than they bargained for.  That's why the US is not a democracy.  And that's why popularity polls are meaningless.

But reading is haaaaaaard......  I just read the headlines and listen to what Keith Olbermann and that dude Rachel Maddow tells me.  That's all I need to make up my mind.

Holy crap, you hold a grudge.  Seriously, if somebody's willing to fake it for 16 years and is only a radio host, you should just let it go.

Goddamn right I do. This is where the bogus smears of "racism" began. And Hugh and his toothy grin were right in there with the Left chrous.

Maybe it irks me because he pretends to be on my side..

The law does not allow cops to stop and question you if you are just walking down the street. It must be a legal stop. You must show your ID to almost anyone these days (except the voting monitors) so what's the problem with this? This law does no more than what the feds were supposed to be doing all along.

226 I used to have so many arguments with "conservatives", back during and after the Shamensty and the reaming the GOP got in 2006, about how Rove was no brain.

Rove is a blithering idiot. Not too long ago, during a TV interview, Chris Wallace asked him about the charge that he and Bush didn't do nearly enough to win public support for the War on Terror.

Know what the Genius Rove said*? "Well, you can run the country or you can defend yourself against critics. You can't do both."

I mean, WTF????

Since WHEN did ANY president of the United States decide that using the bully pulpit to rally the people to his plans wasn't part of his job as first citizen???? I mean, what the FUCK.

And Chris Wallace did not follow up on this astounding statement. Boo, Chris! you usually do better than this.

230 The reason for obesity is the life style of the people, i.e. eating junk food, little or no exercise at all. The first thing that an obese person should do is change the lifestyle i.e. to eat nutritious food like vegetables, fruits, cereals etc rather than eat junk food and exercise regularly. Taking the help of a dietician who will guide you what to eat when and how much you can lose weight. But in spite of all the diets if there is no weight loss you can opt for surgery.
