Obergruppenführer McPollster: 66% See Tax Cuts as Better Stimulus than Gov't Spending
— Gabriel Malor

There is hopeful.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters finds that 66% believe cutting taxes is a better way to create new jobs than increasing government spending. ThatÂ’s up seven points from January.

Just 18% think increasing government spending is the better way to go. Another 16% are not sure.

Sixty-five percent (65%) say decisions made by U.S. business leaders to help their own businesses grow will do more to create jobs than decisions made by government officials. Twenty-five percent (25%) say decisions made by government officials to create jobs will do more.

For the cost of Obama's spendulus, the U.S. could have had an income tax moratorium for a year. That would have been economic stimulus. Instead, Obama and his cronies spent the money on butt lickers and pet projects that went unsubsidized by the taxpayer during the Bush years.

Oh, but read the next sentence:

Still, 69% of voters say it is at least somewhat important for the government to launch a new program designed to create jobs, with 50% who believe it is very important. Only 27% say such a program is not very or not at all important.

I take it back.

1 For the cost of Obama's spendulus, the U.S. could have had an income tax moratorium for a year

And with that kind of money liberals could have started a health care collective that would have done everything they claimed they wanted - instead of forcing Obamacare on the populace.

2 ... 69% of voters say it is at least somewhat important for the government to launch a new program designed to create jobs, ... 69% of the voters probably think it's the President's job to manage the economy.

So we are only 18% of the population?

No need to take it back, because I would have said yes too.  The new program in my head when answering this question would have been an across the board flat tax, or at a minimum, cuts in corporate taxes.

Got to hand it to the libs, they've done a fine job in convincing enough people that the government "creates" jobs.

Guess we need "global governance" now to prevent another financial crisis.

If you change "new program" to "new stimulus package" you wouldn't get 69% support.  "Program" is too ambiguous.

33 Still, 69% of voters say it is at least somewhat important for the government to launch a new program designed to create jobs, with 50% who believe it is very important.

This question is ill-framed, as it says "the government" without specifying which government - federal, state, local.  Of course, from the response, it appears that most people don't even understand that there is more than one government.

If state governments want to have job programs (working on infrastructure that they are responsible for) I have no problem, but the federal government has no charge to "create jobs".  I'm pretty sure that, had that been the plan, it would have made it into the Constitution.  And that's even aside from the financial idiocy of having the federal government (or any, for that matter) create make-work jobs that disappear with the funding, as if they had never even existed.

I fail the pollster for asking this silly question and I fail America for being so stupid in how they answered it.

40 For the cost of Obama's spendulus, the U.S. could have had an income tax moratorium for a year. That would have been economic stimulus.

Sigh.  No it wouldn't.  Temporary tax cuts don't change behavior.  It's the difference between a bonus and a raise.  If you give temporary tax cuts, people will generally save the money (anticipating a downturn) or spend it on temporary things.  Permanent tax cuts change behavior and lead to employers hiring on a more permanent basis.

Keynsian meddling -- on the supply or demand side -- never does what it purports to do.

51 And, for the record, the only government spending that ever returns much of anything or ends up causing the creation of many permanent jobs is defense spending.  It enhances US defense, thereby strengthening the nation, in general, and spends money on cutting edge technologies that are often driven by the moves of the enemies - a more natural mechanism than government decree which makes the production coherent, rather than the usual governmental mishmash of ridiculous and unconnected ideas.  But the lefties always cut defense spending in order to go to the most wasteful and worthless sort of spending there is; even dangerous, as the lefty social engineering almost ran our whole system into the ground (and will, yet).

53 69% probably includes those who are still hoping for a tax break to wake the economy up, not more government spending.

Voters finds that 66% believe cutting taxes is a better way to create new jobs than increasing government spending.

Just 18% think increasing government spending is the better way to go.

Take 1/6 of the 18% who want increased spending, and all of the 66% who want tax cutting, and you get your 69% who want the government to still do something more. Since the government already tried the spending, most of the 18% who think government spending probably already think the government improved things and does not need further action.

86 Dear Capitalist Pig Governor Christie: Do you know what you are doing to me by cutting the state budget for education? Last night I was only able to afford Mohitos instead of my usual Cosmopolitan at the bar. Also today I was only able to hire 2 illegal immigrant gardeners to mow my lawn. Now I know you view me as the enemy I will step up my indoctrination of your children. Before I used to refer to southern Republicans as just racist, now I will refer to them as racist hatemongers thriving off the sweet tears of crying minority children.

Interesting how the left/media nicknamed Bush 'the decider' for making decisions about Iraq and Afghanistan, yet when Obama decides how much money people should make, how people should be medically treated, and how much salt people can eat...

Firehorse, at this point The President Does have something to do with our economy, He has made a Hostile environment for Employers and Corporations.

Granted -- but then again, even I could coach an NFL team to an 0-16 season. I just took "manage" to mean something constructive.

89 But how do you expect the political hacks in D.C. to get reelected without the pet projects to trumpet on their websites? Those people whining about jobs and the economy need to get their priorities straight.

90 69% think it is very/somewhat important for government to do some program ...

BUT... that would include those that think the program would be a tax credit program, or some other incentive.

From the numbers it is apparent the question caught many that also think the gov should decrease taxes.  A gov' program doesn't have to be actually employing people.

"Okay.  You ... the guy who holds that weird ball, first ... you pass the ball to the this big dude - what's your position? ('Center, sir')  Okay, you pass the ball to him, and then you - white boy - you run in the wrong direction, just to throw everyone off, and everyone else sneeze and shift left.  You, big dude with the ball, you run right and pass to number to 6 - because he hasn't been allowed to run with the ball, yet. ('He's the kicker')  So what?  It's all about fairness.  At some point, the running back has held the ball enough - especially this white one." -- The Precedent in his role as adjunct coach

92 85 Economists (the few who know what the hell they're doing) loathe regulations.

Very few know what they're doing. If they know so much about money, why aren't there many rich economists? Those who can't do, teach

How about by zealously guarding the Republic from Constitutional overreach. By paring the size of the Federal bureaucracy to it's smallest and most optimum levels. By avoiding the appearance of impropriety when dealing with businesses and other political contributors. By providing for the best possible defense of the citizens and land of the US by holding all agencies and departments to higher standards accuracy, professionalism, and dedication.

Yeah ... as a matter of fact I just woke up. Who are you people and what are you doing on my lawn?

"Obama called for tolerance and the pursuit of diversity of thought in a "poisonous political climate" and criticized people at both ends of the political spectrum for "throwing around" words such as "socialist," "fascist" and "Soviet-style takeover."

while calling typical american grannies, tea partiers, vietnam vets, bible thumpers, and those who own guns.

99 Alright, who broke the blog?

Posted by: Garbonzo the Garrulous at May 01, 2010 10:25 AM (zgd5N)

100 #68 Yeah, I guess Mr. Precedent hasn't gotten it yet that he can't promote himself as centrist by attacking hard-working, self-supporting tea partiers. And the whole thing about "poisonous political climate" is a bit thin, when you consider the ugliness from the left during the dubya administration. Oh, and of course he dislikes the fact that we are a superpower. Personally, I want him to continue these asshat statements right up until the Nov. elections. Go Big O!

Posted by: nerdygirl at May 01, 2010 10:27 AM (iyyNK)

101 And I don't mean Big O in that smutty, good way either.

102 Dear Fat Fascist Christie,

As a school administrator who you've decided are your enemy, I just wanted to let you know that I had to take my own time to have my state issued vehicle to the shop to have the windows tinted. I work extra hard to meet with politicians to beg for more money, and I have to actually drive myself into Manhattan to meet with marketers to make those maudlin PSA's about how school cuts hurt the children. You have to spend money to get money you know.

Oh, and because of your budget cuts and the racists who are clamping down on illegals, I actually had to clean my own office after "sessions" with an intern. We didn't have enough money to pay double time and a half to those hard working janitors.

Greedy pigs like you do nothing but leech off the hard work we dedicated hardworkers in the public schools do.

103

Meh. I wonder if anyone on this blue ribbon panel of pointy heads will dare to say what everyone is thinking: if you want to reduce the deficit, stop spending money.

Obama and the corrupt progressives must think we've all been asleep while they passed one fabulously expensive program after another for a solid year and a half and don't appear to be stopping or slowing down. How dumb do they think we are (don't answer that).

Sorry for "writing while Irish", but this bullshit really irritates me at times. It's a good thing that Guiness has a calming effect on the nerves...

That means 66% of Americans are anti-government freaks with AK-47s who don't properly worship our wonderfully moderate president.

You guys ever hear Patrick Kennedy going off about calling the invaders aliens?

He is so fucking stupid, he has no idea what alien means. Kennedy is upset that people like us are calling the illegals visitors from other planets. I'm not making this up; it's clear he doesn't the know the definition of alien.

Posted by: Birdman at May 01, 2010 12:34 PM (uFokq)

107 That last part is the problem. Americans are still naive enough to think the government could create efficient, not very expensive "jobs programs." Get a nice return on an investment. If we can just get it 'right,' the government can do a lot of things just fine.

DOESNT WORK THAT WAY SORRY
