• Home prices will remain almost flat for the next two years, even after plunging an average 30 percent nationally since their peak in 2006. The economists forecast no rise this year and a 2.3 percent gain next year.

• The economy will grow 3 percent this year, which is less than usual during the early phase of a recovery and the reason unemployment will stay high. It takes growth of 5 percent for a year to lower the jobless rate by 1 percentage point, economists say.

The economy began growing again last summer, 18 months after the recession startedÂ…

[Again, the AP insists on trotting out the lie that the recession started in December 2007, which is not true. It started in the final quarter of 2008.]

Economists think sales of previously occupied homes, the biggest chunk of the market, will tick up to 5.4 million this year and to 5.9 million in 2011. That would mark continued improvement from the low of 4.9 million in 2008 and be in line with sales in a healthy economy.

Just a couple of thoughts here.  Crist was a primary example of exactly what is wrong in government today, on the one hand he claims he's for smaller government and reduced spending but he's more than willing to take hand outs for his state and perpetuate this cycle of more and more kickbacks to state government from local government.

We need leaders that will stand on principle.  Look at Governor Heinman from Nebraska for example, when Senator Ben Nelson sold us down the river with his Cornhusker Kickback, Heinman stood up and said this was not something we in Nebraska wanted.  When Nelson tried his political blackmail and said if the Governor Heinman would go on the record opposing it he'd see it was taken out of the bill, Heinman stood his ground and said take it out.

That's the sort of principled leadership people want, not the Crist decrying it in speeches in front of one crowd and then accepting federal government "bribes" hand over fist with the other.  People are, rightfully so, sick of that type of governance.  I would also point out that whenever a republican politician is seen as "appealing to non-republicans" that this is just MSM doublespeak meaning he's a worthless RINO who will most likely enforce liberal policies and abandon conservative principles.  No thanks.

So with luck Crist will join Stupak in the dust bin of history, along with a boatload of other weasel opportunists who have far to long dominated our political landscape.  Good riddance to the lot.

What drives me nuts are the people who have no concept about loading the overhead bins.  They think it's there just for them and they can put all their mess up there and when you come along and put your little suitcase up there, they have a cow.  They could load a plane with experienced travelers in very little time...it's the ones who have no clue that cause the delays...lol

Ok, again this is a misreading of the polls.  There is no solid base of 45% that welcome Obama's destructive policies.  Look, if your going to be a conservative you need to act like a conservative, and one of the things we conservatives do is set emotion aside and look at facts first to determine the best course of action.

Emotive arguments and overreaction are a hallmark of the whacko left, they have little to no place on the much more well reasoned and thoughtful right.  Now, the polls you cite are very narrow and have to do more with Obama as a person, not his policies.  Also you run into inherint problems relying on any poll data, because a lot has to do with your representative sample, what time of day you call, and how the questions are worded.

For example, if your representative sample is 80% registered democrat, guess what?  Your going to get much different results than if your sample is closer to 50/50.  Without this data one cannot possibly state that there is a 45% solid base of support based on a single poll, it's ludicrous.

Now, when people are asked if they think the country is headed in the right direction, on average only 31% will say yes, almost 61.4% say no.   A much different result than the 45% "solid base" you infer from the poll above.

So for now I encourage you to work within our current political system, have a little faith and try to get good, conservative candidates in there.  Remember also not to put so much stock in polls, while they are sometimes good indicators they are based on very small samples and usually poll groups of "likely" voters, which doesn't really tell you much since a lot of tea party folks would not fall into the "likely" voter category until now.

i didn't care much for bush. It is the reason i fear Huckabee. Its someone who is called a conservative but isn't really a conservative. Economic conservatism is the most important aspect of conservatism, bush was a 50/50 economic conservatism. He focused on stupid social issues that will never be solved. If you voted for Bush in 2004 honestly thinking he would add an amendment to the constitution banning gay marriage you are nuts. What i find most impressive about that Sunday show was that Rubio can openly talk about the need to reform social security (read:cuts to people under 55) in a state like Florida and not be destroyed in the polls. The old catholic immigrants who built the parishes have pretty much died off. The old people aren't there to support the church which takes care of the schools. Their children have moved out to the burbs or away. There are new catholic schools going up in the exurbs while the inner city ones close. They tried to stay open to serve the community but with the lack of religious, i.e. teaching sisters, and the lack of money in the parishes, they can't keep doing it. Even the new churches being built in the exurbs are being built with beautiful hand crafted materials scavanged from the old inner city churches. ISI did that.

I was reading about the crash (can't find the site) and the runway had a old Russian military ILS. The plane was equipped to read it but the system was different than civilian ILS systems -- the beam led to a spot before the runway threshold. Apparently the plane was also descending at 7m/s (which was way too fast) when it impacted. ILS beams can be distorted. As for the fuel dumping, that sounds mighty screwy.

Again I think it's simply far to early to make a statement like this one, and far too little data to support such a conclusion.  While I agree that should we eventually get to the stage where an actual majority has an entiltlement mentality that this will eventually cause the collapse of the republic I agree. 

However as recent events would indicate up till now only a small percentage of people in our nation are actually politically active, politically educated and politically involved.  That is changing, and from the looks of things for the better.  So personally I think it's pretty premature to talk about secession and other rather radical solutions until at the very least we get past the next few elections.

The populace is beginning to awake, the lame stream media is rapidly losing it's hold and credibility and things are beginning to change.  I see no purpose served in proposing what you propose at this stage, it simply adds fuel ti the fire that the tea party/conservative movement is radical, which we simply are not.  I see no purpose or advantage in fulfilling the MSM's idiotic narrative.

It seemed to me that eventual secession was inevitable on Nov 4th, 2008.  That was a declaration of national suicide and I think that people can only delude themselves in thinking it was anything other.  If a nation decides to kill itself, there is little that can stop it.  The question came down to whether some states would secede before it all falls in, or whether they would all ride this into the wall.

Seeing how so many seem to have accepted the insane way that health scare was forced through (the most un-American piece of legislation pushed through in the most un-American process this hation has ever witnessed) I don't give this nation anything even close to ten years.  Too many taboos have been broken.  Too many rules have been run over.  Too many traditions (that held this nation together) have been run roughshod.

Basically, this is the French Revolution come to America - traditions and religion will be destroyed for no good reason, but they will be destroyed - and that describes only the motivations of the idiot liberals.  The Indonesian Imbecile is more on a mission of just exacting revenge on the US and the West, for the third world - as he's too stupid to have any actual political thoughts.

On the bright side, France is on their 5th Republic, already ... and they are only 4 or 5 new Republics away from getting it right and coming to the view that our Founders laid down before the French even started on their trek to build a reasonable nation.

I used to be good friends with an observant Jew, and we had many fraught arguments as to why the Hebrews went all-in for Democrats.

For the older generation, it begins and ends with FDR-worship. For the Boomers, it's a more complicated brew of culture (Jews tend to be upper-middle class and highly involved in the academic and financial worlds) and a theological disconnect from their religion (relatively few ethnic Jews describe themselves as "very observant" any more). Never mind the fact that the most virulent anti-semitic strains in American politics come from the Marxist left and not the John Birch right, and never mind the authoritarian leanings of the Democrat Party: "Jews are as party-loyal as Soviet commissars," one poster at Commentary magazine noted.

As far as I can tell, the American Jewish political calculus has little to do with Israel one way or another (except to the extent that jews are disproportionately academics and reflect the academic Left's dislike of Israel).

I don't think there's much to be done in terms of making the anti-statist, small-government message "more palatable" to Democratic constituencies. Frankly, people become Democrats not because they don't understand the competing political philosophies; they become Democrats because they like a statist/authoritarian state (until the inevitable happens and the state crashes, but that's a rant for later).

I first met Marco when he was a junior member of the Florida House (well before his speakership) and I was a staff attorney for the House Judiciary Committee.  I was instantly impressed, and most politicians don't impress me in the slightest.  He is the real deal.  I thought then, and continue to think, that Marco will be President some day.  We should be so fucking lucky.

What I don't get is how the hell the Rubio/Crist debate on Fox News Sunday, two weeks ago, failed to earn its own post. There was just me and one other poor schlub on here asking for a thread.

I hated it then and I hate it now, but despite the fact that Crist behaved desperately, launching an attack from the moment he opened his mouth, Rubio, in my eyes, didn't come off a whole lot better.

He seemed a bit like an entitled little shit. A fast-talker. A salesman...

There were times when he seemd to have an air about him as if the floor was entirely his and, at one point, after Wallace asked a question of Crist re Crist's aspirations for future office, Wallace was incredulous that Rubio interrupted to say that he would like to comment on the question.

He's not Crist, and that's a good thing, but he's no J.E.B. either.

Florida needs another Jeb.

This is just a perception, mind you, but it appears that that Rubio has sense enough to realize that he doesn't need any help from Palin to get elected; another reason why I like that guy.

It also appears, however, that, to no avail, Palin is trying to get in on Rubio's campaign, presumably so that she can take credit for his election, and so that she can draw more attention to herself, another reason why she gets on my nerves .

A belated word of advice to an already very likeable Michelle Bachman: Palin needs you. You don't need her.
