David Obey (D - WI) is retiring from the US House of Representatives. He has represented Wisconsin's 7th district since 1969.
UPDATE: Drew advised me that this was skull-worthy. And since I'm a giver...here ya go.
Sean Duffy for Congress [ace]: Duffy -- a DA who was once on Real World: Boston, and married kinda-hot Cuban Republican Rachel Campos from Real World: San Francisco, was already doing pretty well but now he's the favorite.

I firmly think there should be term limits in Congress and after they serve a 10 year ban on holding any public office. Good luck getting that passed.

I can't get excited until we know who's opposing Duffy now. Obey has two sons; could be a Dingell and assume his district is a fiefdom. And uses his house.gov page to bash an American corporation by name. Class act.

I think so.
Democrats didn't want to see more 'retirements' because it adds to the narrative that they are doomed.
The Chair of the House Appropriations Committee bailing? That's a neon sign that says "We're headed for the minority and that's no fun, I'm outta here".

In Other Breaking News...
Barney Frank To Undergo Gender Reassignment Surgery
(Fox News)
From his upscale D.C. brownstone, in George Town, Democratic Congressman, Barney Frank, told Fox New’s Bill O’Reilly that rumors of his pending operation were accurate. The Capitol has been abuzz. Fearing that the issue might ‘hurt his position’ and influence on the new health ‘scare’ legislation, the congressman decided to put rumors to rest.
Script:
O’Reilly… What say you congressman about the actual reason ‘behind’ such an important decision?
Frank…(lisping and spitting) First there were rumors and ‘inyourendo’ about my being gay, and having a gay lover who was a prostitute. It was horrible Bill. A person’s private life and what they do in the comfort of their home should not be under public scrutiny. Then well, I noticed I was growing ‘man-boobs’ and I decided what the hell.
Frank…(more lisping and spitting) I’ve been screwing ‘normal people’ since I first was elected to the House of Representatives in 1972. I thought it would be a novel idea to see what a normal screwing feels like, thus the decision for gender reassignment surgery. You know, O’Reilly, it’s going to make me a better representative of the people.
FrankÂ… continued (more lisping and spitting) I have always fought for what was right, I mean left, for the good of the American people.
O’Reilly…Come on congressman, I’m not buying it. You have enjoyed ‘sticking it’ to the tax payer to long, why now the change? Come on, what say you congressman?
FrankÂ….(still lisping, spit gone) Well allegations of my past behavior have cast a dark shadow upon my heart. I was appallingly naive. After an initial encounter in which I paid Steve Gobie $80 for sex, I tried to lift the younger man out of drugs and prostitution by hiring him to run errands. I wrote letters to GobieÂ’s probation officer and paid his psychiatric bills. I allowed Gobie the use of a car and sometimes my apartment when I was out of town.
OÂ’ReillyÂ…(shaking his head) Come on congressman your sexuality is your choice!
FrankÂ…(screaming, spitting, and lisping) It is not, I was born this way, thatÂ’s why I want to change!
OÂ’ReillyÂ…ThatÂ’s bull, letÂ’s move along congressman.
After 18 months, of our sordid trysts, I dismissed Gobie upon discovering that he was bringing clients to my apartment. I mean, can you imagine Bill? Two years later, Gobie tried unsuccessfully to sell his story to the Washington Post. The little prick then gave the story to the Washington Times for nothing, in hopes of getting a book contract for the male version of The Mayflower Madam. This just broke my heart, I loved him, it was horrible. IÂ’m serious here Bill!
OÂ’ReillyÂ…ThatÂ’s understandable congressman.
Then there was the more recent incident of my partner at the time growing pot. I knew nothing about it and was not charged.
Fortunately for me, the House Ethics Committee could have reprimanded me. My constituents and colleagues were generally sympathetic. The scandal didnÂ’t involve seducing a minor, and I was and am still single. It is an incident from a past secret life that has come back to haunt me again and IÂ’ve grown so weary Bill. As I get older I want to settle down and get married.
O’Reilly (shaking his head)…Alright then congressman, I’m not really buying it, who said, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” but thanks for your appearance on the show.
FrankÂ…(tearfully), Thank you Bill
OÂ’ReillyÂ… (still shaking his head) ThatÂ’s it for tonightÂ’s show, if you care to opine send your Emails to OÂ’Reilly@FoxNews.com, OÂ’Rielly@ FoxNews.com. Remember, name and town, name and town, keep your comments short and pithy. Stay tuned for Hannity.

Excellent point. What is it with the Congress "lifers" anyway? At some point, say around 80, isn't there something you'd rather be doing? Or is all the free fresh intern meat and the fact that you can fall asleep in meetings and no one calls you on it enough for them?

After telling us for years that killing terrorists just makes more terrorists, why didn't Obama take his own advice?
Of course the answer is obvious, it wan't advice at all, any more than a hundred other crapweasel things the Dems said about the war was "advice".
It was just another way to bash Bush, and if it happened to divide the country and bring discredit to our national security policies, so what? You don't think American unity and security is as important as Party unity and success do you? You ain't no kind of Donk if you do, son!

Score another victory for Palin. She endorsed Sean Duffy before any other national Republican or conservative figure endorsed him and she made the endorsement at a time when Duffy appeared to be the longest of long-shots.
Said Erick Erickson at the time:
Governor Palin has gone all in with Sean Duffy and Charlie Cook is now saying David Obey is in trouble.
Coincidence? Probably not.

These guys are set for the rest of their lives because they get to decide their pay package. We let them get away with that to reduce the temptation to take bribes and kickbacks. But we are seeing that they regard their House pay package as a base salary.
Another problem is that they are in Washington DC too much. They need to stay home and do their other job as an attorney, doctor, business owner, etc.
This country has to make major changes to the culture of Washington and gain control over the circumstances that allow for someone to be a career politician. Every problem we face today was created by career politicians and they are incapable, by their own nature, of solving them.

Obey's district starts on the north side of Eau Claire and runs north all the way to Superior -- far northwest corner of the state. Dave Zien represented the state senate district for years that included E.C. and Rice Lake/Spooner area, almost got concealed-carry passed when he was in office. Things can only improve from here.
You southern-Wisconsin and Illinois guys must think the state ends at the Dells. As a former gubernatorial candidate from Milwaukee once said in a speech at Green Bay, "Damn state's bigger than I thought." (He lost in the primary that year.)
District 2 (Madison and points south) is represented by Tammy Baldwin, our token lesbian.
