Of Course: Amidst 17 Year Run of No Observable Global Warming, IPCC Set to Release "Darkest" and Most Dire Report Yet on Coming Catastrophe of Global Warming
— Ace

Be afraid.

UN scientists are set to deliver their darkest report yet on the impacts of climate change, pointing to a future stalked by floods, drought, conflict and economic damage if carbon emissions go untamed.

The report goes on to claim:

A great and rich power will be subject to serious natural disasters,
particularly earthquakes and flooding, and rend the nation from end to end, causing enormous conflict, despair, and misery. The wealthy power will be bankrupted attempting to deal with its disasters. Three other great nations will send aid to help the citizens survive.

Oh I'm sorry, that's not from the IPCC report, that's from the Prophecies of Nostradamus, Volume I, Century VIII quatrain 29.

Here's The Australian previewing the new prophecies:

It predicted global temperatures would rise 0.3C-4.8C this century, adding to roughly 0.7C since the Industrial Revolution. Seas will creep up by 26cm-82cm by 2100. The draft warns costs will spiral with each additional degree, although it is hard to forecast by how much.

Let me note there is such a vast difference between a low-end prediction of zero point three degrees Centigrade -- over a century! -- and 4.8 degrees C that this hardly counts as a prediction at all.

And let me note that actual observed warming is lower than 95% of all "modeling" predictions.

Andrew Bolt notes the odd inverse relationship between evidence and shrillness: as the former declines, the latter rises up in a hockey-stick like spike.

One of his was a "sermon" from Brother Bucks- Televgangelist. It was about how the color of Satan is not red, but green, and so you should send him all your green so you could be free from sin. I think Algore got a copy of that story and began using it as a "how to" manual.

39 Not only has there been no warming since 1998, but contrary to what the warmies are putting out now, it has actually been cooling down.  They have called it "flat-lining" based on "adjusting the temps for normalization".  So basically the numbers they are putting out now are lies.

There is not global warming and there never has been.  What we have is the normal temperature oscillation caused the the activity of the sun oscillating.

96 >>Wait, what? How the heck do you "weasel out of discovery?" Especially when you're the one who sued? Steyn counter sued for $30 million. Mann sued 4 different groups, Steyn, NR and a couple others. So far, only Steyn has complied with the discovery motion to Mann's suit so Mann is saying that he shouldn't have to comply because the other 3 haven't yet. Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense since Steyn is the only one who is part of the suit against Mann but you know he will try to do anything to weasel out of opening his books.

185 Usually, I yield to no one in my general cynicism and despair, but every once in a while, something like this gives me a glimpse of what it must actually look tike from the other side: that the whole Noble Endeavor of Reforming All Society is from their perspective a feeble seedling, hanging by a thread; even after 50 years of Marching Through the Institutions they are just barely getting 52%, and that only by lying as hard as they can. It could still all be upset in a moment. Let's all hope that happens.

188 Last week, I was in the car, and I tuned in NPR (Nasty Progressive Regurgitations). One of their features was on the imagined horrible threat to Florida of sea level rise.

They started off with various entirely anecdotal stories from coastal locals.

"Weh-ayl, the water used to done come only quarter way up the lower boat dock, and now it's two-thirds of the way,"

And then SCIENCE. To underpin the anecdotes.

I listened in vain for certain things. One thing never mentioned is how incredibly slow overall sea level rise is. Of course, NPR did their best to make it sound like several inches a year. No. It's millimeters per year..

Another thing never mentioned is the long string of failed previous predictions by warmistas of catastrophic sea rise. Anyone else remember James Hansen saying in 1988 that the whole periphery of Manhattan would be totally submerged in the far-distant year of 2008? That sure wasn't featured in the NPR piece.

And, finally, a certain word, and the associated concept, never was voiced. That word being "subsidence". Florida has a genuine problem in many areas with the _relative_ sea level coming up, but it's not because the _absolute_ sea level is coming up. It's because the fucking land is sinking. A ton of it is crap land on fragile impermanent geology riddled with sinkholes and layered over with fill, that should never have been built on.

Finally, they had a smug local liberal politico talking about "the biggest challenge" for Florida politicos trying to manage the ongoing terrible crisis. What is that challenge? TERM LIMITS.

Because how can Our Betters and their sidekicks the Top Men ever be expected to get a handle on such problems if they aren't allowed to stay in power for decades on end?

My car dashboard now has scrapes and dents from my repeatedly slamming my forehead into it, trying to purge the demons of stupidity that entered via my ears. It was really, really bad. And hey, your tax money pays for this!

I talked with a Navy guy who said that he was dumfounded to learn that several guys in his unit had voted to re-elect Obama.

When he remonstrated with them and presented the whole long list of indisputable facts about Obama's endemic hostility to the military, the huge cuts Obama intends to force on the services, and the fact that they were damaging their own prospects by supporting the guy, what it basically came down to for them was #MelaninMafia. They're black. He's black. End of discussion.

It overrides all common sense. But it's consistent across the board.

Seriously, we have a massive cultural problem with lying, there just isn't any consequence the vast majority of the time. Confessed fraud Peter Gleick is still a mover and shaker in the climate movement. Climategate energized the skeptics but didn't even slow down the fraud machine. And yes, the street-level left *does* believe that not only are we in Critical Danger, but that there's no legitimate doubt. And they can't be convinced otherwise, because if you doubt, you're not legitimate. As we discussed yesterday, it's a childish heads-I-win tails-you-lose game that, unfortunately, *does* have the effect of shutting down discussion, after which they declare victory and then try to grab More Power, which is all it was ever about.

Making it hotter in those urban areas, you see.... The air is cleaner now than it's been since they started keeping records, yet emission regulations are becoming more and more onerous and expensive. How much is enough?

The Bay Area smog heads up the central valley... and sits there... So the Central Valley has crappy air.... So they put big restrictions on what we can do in the valley.... but in the Bay Area, because the air is clean there (because all their crap blows to the Valley).... restrictions are not anywhere near as onerous.... Because... the Greenies in the Bay.... and the Techies in Silicon Valley.... two groups who have political power... don't wish to be held accountable.

401 Warmists believe that you put out a fire by throwing gasoline on it, smothering it with dry wood and paper, and exposing it to lots of fresh oxygen.   When the fire keeps blazing, they claim that water and CO2 is fueling it.  "Stop pouring water on it.  Lack of air makes is making it worse."

The point is:  Their claims are the exact opposite of what science tells us.  Their predictions are the predictions of global cooling.

Ask for scientific proof, not computer models.  Where are the experiments that show CO2 being able to store, trap and/or redirect heat?  Show me how a water surface rises when floating ice melts?  Heat is responsible for floods and drought, at the same time?  Warm air holds more moisture than cold air, and storms (rain, tornadoes, etc.) occur when warm and cold air masses collide.  Explain how more violent storms will occur when warm air collides with warm air.

Posted by: Long Island at March 24, 2014 12:36 PM (7Nabg)

415 Posted by: Jim Curran at March 24, 2014 04:27 PM (7+tbn) The theory of greenhouse gases is not understood by most... CO2, just like all molecules, will absorb IR (heat) radiation in pre defined wavelengths, called their absorbtion bands. This energy comes from the Sun, and the Black body heat radiated back towards space by the earth itself. Its that black body heat being absorbed, that leads to the idea of a Greenhouse gas.. Problem is, that CO2 then transfers that heat energy through Conduction, and Convection, to the rest of the atmosphere.... which also then reradiates said energy... So all the Greenhouse effect does, is trap a small amount of heat, for a very short period of time, in the atmosphere.... before it is either reradiated back towards space, OR is reabsorbed by the earth itself... ie... it stores heat energy for a short time... in the atmosphere... making the surface a little warmer. Problem is that all the blackbody radiated energy given off by the earth, in CO2 (and waters, which overlap) absorbtion bands, is already being absorbed by existing CO2 and Water vapor... Thus, the only way to add heat energy to the equation, would be for the surface of the earth (and Oceans) to 'warm'.... which it has NOT. But because they don't understand how this stuff works... because its a matter of FAITH.... you can't explain it to them.... they will just say... its complicated..
