— Ace I know what you're thinking, as I thought that too -- Funny, but why is it when LGF was getting 500,000 hits a day on the right, he wasn't worth a profile, and now that he's getting 100,000 or less and on the left, he is?
Yeah, that's true. That's probably why they commissioned the piece.
A funny thing happened on the way to publishing it, though.
They discovered he's kind of a dick.
THE QUESTIONING OF Johnson’s tactics started to come not just from without L.G.F. but also from within. Readers both casual and loyal spoke up in the comment threads to ask, sometimes diplomatically and sometimes not, whether all this casual flinging of epithets like “fascist” wasn’t maybe an overreaction. Johnson’s response, in thousands of cases, was to block their accounts and ban some of them from viewing the blog. “Get off my Web site” was a common farewell. (Johnson insists that this is not true — that no one has ever been banned from L.G.F. merely for disagreeing with him — but the anecdotal evidence to the contrary is voluminous, and the fact that the offending comments were instantly and permanently deleted makes it impossible to check others’ records against his.)...
No one ever said L.G.F., or any blog, had to be about the free exchange of ideas. “It’s his sandbox,” Pamela Geller says simply. “He can do whatever he wants.” Still, if you read L.G.F. today, you will find it hard to miss the paradox that a site whose origins, and whose greatest crisis, were rooted in opposition to totalitarianism now reads at times like a blog version of “Animal Farm.” Johnson seems obsessed with what others think of him, posting much more often than he used to about references to himself elsewhere on the Internet and breaking into comment threads (a recent one was about the relative merits of top- versus front-loaded washing machines) to call commenters’ attention to yet another attack on him that was posted at some other site. On the home page, you can click to see the Top 10 comments of the day, as voted on by registered users; typically, half of those comments will be from Johnson himself. Even longtime commenters have been disappeared for one wrong remark, or one too many, and when it comes to wondering where they went or why, a kind of fearful self-censorship obtains. He has banned readers because he has seen them commenting on other sites of which he does not approve. He is, as he reminds them, always watching. L.G.F. still has more than 34,000 registered users, but the comment threads are dominated by the same two dozen or so names. And a handful of those have been empowered by Johnson sub rosa to watch as well — to delete critical comments and, if necessary, to recommend the offenders for banishment. It is a cult of personality — not that there’s any compelling reason, really, that it or any blog should be presumed to be anything else.
“This is one area where I did change,” Johnson admitted. “I realized you can’t just let it be free speech. It doesn’t work that way on the Internet. Total free speech is a recipe for anarchy when people can’t see each other.”
And oh dear: Check out this dead-bang center shot at the target:
IN THE LAST DAY of November, Johnson delivered the final blow to his old alliances. In a post that he said took him about three minutes to write, he listed 10 reasons “Why I Parted Ways With the Right.” The “reasons” themselves amounted to little more than laundry lists: “Support for conspiracy theories and hate speech (see: Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Birthers, creationists, climate deniers, etc.),” for instance. In the voluminous comment thread attached, Johnson was characteristically interested less in discussing the break itself than in discussing the reaction to it — calling readers’ attention to the number of times it was “re-tweeted,” linking to attacks on him, citing praise from quarters that not long ago would have considered him toxic.
Thanks to beedubya.

By the time CJ became famous (2004's throbbing memo) the site was already in decline, with the pointless comments (including far too much ONT-style personal stuff *everywhere*) starting to overtake the site. By the time the Vlaams Belang split hit, CJ had lost his acuity and the comments were nigh-unreadable, with most of the smart funny people being replaced by folks both countless and mediocre.

It started to appear a couple of weeks ago, I think. Several people have noted it, because comments just disappear from the main threads - though they go into moderation in the headline threads. You see people complain, every so often, about having tried to submit a comment 3 or 4 times, not knowing which word was killing it. It's weird.

Chucky was disappointed, especially since the reporter does what reporters are supposed to do and interview other sources;
I have a few significant disagreements with the angle taken by Jonathan Dee in his profile for the New York Times, most of all his willingness to accept unverifiable anecdotal information from people who post comments on the Internet under fake names, to claim that their LGF accounts were blocked simply for disagreeing with me — a claim which, in the vast majority of cases, is simply not true.

Did CJ the mad out Zombie too, or just threaten to do so?"
Since no one knows who Zombie is, no one could out Zombie.
There was a lot of mockery - cut and pasted to Zombie's blog - saying that Zombie was hysterical to worry about people knowing his/her identity.
Then you see the things other people worry about, and you have to wonder.

I also like how he complains about "anonymity" on Teh Innertubes. Maybe that's why he is so eager to "out" any critic the moment he can get ahold of their real world identities.
Also, the Hoosier Hoops experiment reminded me of something. First of all, I miss seeing his sycophants try to defend him away from Of the few who survived the switch (Hoops, Sharmie, Irish Rose, Thanos, KKKilgore, Reine, Honorary Yooper, and that Kejda chick, to name a few), when he would tell them to stop posting (even in his defense) on sites, or to withdraw from Facebook discussions about him, they ALL would retreat en masse. When he would declare a site verboten, if they had their own blogs, they would de-link en masse. When he would declare a banee an unperson, nobody was allowed to speak of that person. Very creepy. And when he admits he or his snitches monitor the site 24/7, that's creepy creepy.
Oh well. I wonder if this will set off the bat signal he has to tell him he is being mocked.

Venice Beach would qualify. Judging from his "overnight ocean" photos, they look to be taken around Manhattan Beach, I recognize the octagonal buildings at the end of the pier. If he's taking them during his bicycle ride, Hawthorne would be within that distance. Most of MB and El Segundo between Sepulveda and the 405 is shopping centers, office parks and industrial parks. Playa del Rey has some ratty areas to it, might be there, or possibly the LAX area along Century Blvd near the porn shops.

It's kind of like watching the Rise and Fall of the Little Green Reich. I'm guessing we're at just past the July 20, 1944 assassination attempt and Hitler's mad purge of Wehrmacht generals, where he had them hung by piano wire and filmed it for his pleasure. Even Rommel was told to eat a bullet when he was implicated. This NYT piece might be his Battle of the Bulge where he makes one last surge before he loses it all and offs himself in the bunker.

The universe has ways of inflicting karma on people, in much the same way it has for dogs who run out into the street.
First, CJ changes sides, to BO, just before ObamaCare hits a bridge abutment during a Brown-out.
Democrats, OTOH, are running from the stink (which I guess everyone knew was coming, and sooner rather than later).
Then this:
"Still, if you read L.G.F. today, you will find it hard to miss the paradox that a site whose origins, and whose greatest crisis, were rooted in opposition to totalitarianism now reads at times like a blog version of "Animal Farm." "
One Leftist comparing another Leftist to the totalitarians of "Animal Farm"? The NYT just has to identify the guy with the fresh skid mark, didnÂ’t they?
And now it seems that Iceweasel has bumped-off Sharmuta.
S, did you at least have the sense to post your flounce elsewhere? Perhaps you will stop in here or at Table8chat.
FWIW, Iceweasel is extremely sensitive about what blogs "know" about her, specifically her behavior at LGF. She mentioned that she does post at other blogs, but under a different nic. Implicitly, these are right-wing blogs. Figuring sheÂ’s in her early 20Â’s, she shouldnÂ’t be too difficult to identify.

Posted by: Dianna at January 23, 2010 12:41 AM
No, he was badly injured in a car crash but survived it. It gave cover to Hitler when Rommel committed suicide, enabling them to tell the German people he died a hero and not a traitor. When the SS discovered that Rommel was in on the assassination plot, he was given a choice to kill himself and get a hero's funeral or swing naked on piano wire with the others. Hitler wanted him tried and hung, but one of his henchmen said it would be bad for public morale if it was found out that Rommel was in on the plot.

"Cronkite admitted that the media does "tilt toward liberalism," although he denied any political partisanship. Elsewhere he has claimed that he never allowed his own "strong opinions" to color his broadcasts. But over the years, Accuracy in Media has documented CronkiteÂ’s pronounced liberal bias. During the Cold War, Cronkite repeatedly passed on Soviet disinformation about U.S. defense policies. He pronounced the "Soviet threat" a myth and told Soviet journalists that the American people were muddled in their thinking about the Cold War.
In 1999, Cronkite came out of the closet and exposed his leftist bias. AIM reported CronkiteÂ’s call for a world government and for the U.S. to renounce "some of its sovereignty" in pursuit of that goal. He called for a revision of the veto procedures in the United Nations Security Council to prevent the United States from blocking actions intended to move toward world government. It should be no surprise to find Cronkite echoing the far left in its support of Saddam Hussein. "The whole article here.
Fuck Cronkite, and fuck Charles 'Icarus' Johnson.

1) Christians (or, really, anyone who follows any kind of faith) are pretty much incapable of being good, and
2) Blacks are pretty much incapable of being bad.
For Cahrsel, Obama must be good for the country, no matter how thin his background or disastrous his policies (or the fact that he at least nominally professes to be a Christian) because his racial composition gives him absolute moral authority.
Where he ties himself in knots is that he'd like you to believe that all of the above stems from some form of logical analysis, then he parrots the climate change catechism as some sort of received wisdom tolerating no introspection.

"Â… vile comments about Muslims."
ItÂ’d take me a couple of hours to dig up my books on Muslim history (but I will tomorrow), but their behavior, at least the Arab ones, is quite resistant to vile comments. The truth is rather ugly.
You are possibly aware of the Coptic (Christian Egyptians) gathering in DC? So you know why they are there? Are you aware of the behavior of the Sudanese (the ones in the north, who run the government, and consider themselves Arab) towards the people in Darfur, and the Christians and Animists in the south of Sudan? Among other things, they kidnap, buy and sell non-Muslim humans.
This behavior is easily over 1000 years old; it predates Mohammed, but Mo legitimized it. Many (all) other people may have done these things at one time, but the Muslims still do it, and see nothing wrong with it.

You do realize that the only reason that we live today as we live is due to European/Western armed might.
Once upon a time Turkey was non-Muslim, as was Egypt, Lebanon and the rest of the area. For perhaps 500 years (476AD-1076AD), these areas were one of the better places on the planet to live. But in 646, Egypt fell, and the rest of North Africa soon afterwards. Most of Spain fell by about 712. The stories for the next 700 years are unpleasant.
Fast forward to 2010: Spain is quite prosperous, yet Turkey is poor, Egypt is little more than an overpopulated sewer, Lebanon is ruins, and the rest ... Then there's the way minorities (i.e., non-Muslim) are treated ...
Who is responsible?
Posted by: Arbalest at January 22, 2010 11:01 PM (WW58d)
I reread what I wrote and realized I didn't really articulate what I was trying to say. What I meant to say is: Johnson would make vile comments about ALL muslims, as if every person that is muslim is a terrorist/evil. I do not agree that all muslims are terrorist/evil. Therefore, I have always found him to be a little short of a full deck.
Now, putting into context what I meant to say..when I read your comments, I thought you were making the argument that ALL muslims are terrorist/evil. I realize that you misunderstood my comment. therefore, i misunderstood your response to my comment.

In other words, is being a leftist a worldview, or a psychological (psychiatric?) condition? Do they think differently from the rest of us, with their attitudes and conclusions simply being the natural result. Or are they misinformed and operating off of faulty premises that lead them to faulty conclusions?
When reality impinges upon them harshly enough, will they temporarily wake up, only to have their innate madness reassert itself as the threat passes?
I really do think that there is something different about these folks, something that cannot be fixed because it is innate. Education won't solve the problem, the most it can do is minimize it.

I give 'em credit for publicizing the Klingon dress/couch picture, and for trying to keep up morale during the election. However, I think they raised some very false hopes in the attempt to stave off Eeoryism. I checked it out every once in a while after the election and left for good after a fairly long post letting us all know how horrible the Catholic Church is.

If that's true it's going to be a very short gig. He may write an article or two before they realise that Charles' main talent is linking to others.
And what's this about a girlfriend/fiancee? I thought it was common knowledge that he is gay.

Jim Hoft ran for the woods screaming for his Mommy.
Oh! That's right. Jim Hoft bitch slapped Pony Tail boy all the way back to the BIKE RACK.
Yeah, Hoft nuked him in that exchange. Not that Jody Bottum at FT is ever going to fold like a tent, but that was hilarious how easily Hoft maneuvered the twit into a corner. Um, repeatedly screaming "homophobe" and "haterz" at irrefutable proof that "Ironfist" Jennings' organization was peddling gay porn to grade schoolers isn't exactly an expression of disapproval of GLSEN. If Jhonnso actually has an attorney on retainer, I hope the poor guy/gal has a stockpile of ibuprofen to deal with Guitar Anti-Hero's speed-dial bitching.

Incivility, at least of the F2F variety, clearly makes him uncomfortable; in fact, he can be downright squeamish about it. “I don’t know why things can’t just stay on the level of the factual,” he said. “I don’t know why everything has to have a slant. I mean, The New York Times has a slant, and in the past I’ve called them out for that.”
Incivility? You mean like using slurs involving dipping your balls in another man's mouth? That kind of incivility chuck? Or maybe writing the "n word" all over another blog, like white supremacist/lgf moderator killgore trout did? That kind of civility? What a fucknozzle.

"Don't know anything about Charles Johnson, but Andrew Sullivan has always been nuts."
I won't claim to be prescient, but even when Sullivan and Johnson were occasionally publishing stuff that I agreed with, I found their obsessions to be repellent.
In Johnson's case, it's his detestation of religion. That was the impetus behind his hatred of Islamofascism. Since then, his obsession has led him to lump Sunday-morning Mass attendees with Khalid Sheikh Mohammad.
In Sullivan's case, it was sex. He lost me early on, when he equated male circumcision with female genital mutilation - mainly, I suppose, give himself yet another occasion for a self-pity jag. Since then, he seems to measure every political position by the number of cc's of semen it will let him emit.
Johnson and Sullivan are intelligent men, and are capable of saying interesting things. But their obsessions have turned them into the spittle-flecked lunatics they now are.

Turkey has acted in its perceived self-interest the same as every other nation, and I am not sure what Turks fighting alongside U.S. Marines (but not U.S. Army soldiers) does to debunk the notion that Islam in general is a pain in the ass. It is a shame that your other tales of the noble Turk are super-sekrit classified. I am sure those tales would do much to buttress your case, whatever the hell that case may be.

Hmmmm, very interesting.
My colleagues and I agree that what we're seeing here is a multiple personality mental disorder, an obsessive-compulsive mental disorder and an incurable, classic case of arrested development; i.e., an adult (presumably) with the mind of a bratty, three-year-old child ..., also known as a certifiable loony..

(Johnson insists that this is not true — that no one has ever been banned from L.G.F. merely for disagreeing with him — but the anecdotal evidence to the contrary is voluminous, and the fact that the offending comments were instantly and permanently deleted makes it impossible to check others’ records against his.)
Not only is he "kind of a dick" he's "kind of a LYING dick". I was one of those people who calmly critiqued his descent into batshit craziness, and it took all of 5 seconds to ban me from the site.

I haven't seen much evidence to prove they're not. I'm still waiting for those so-called "moderate muslims" to come out, enmasse. "It was a kind of orgy of delinking, an intentionally set brush fire meant to clear the psychic area around Johnson and ensure that no one would connect him to anyone else, period, unless he first said it was O.K. No one would define JohnsonÂ’s allegiances but Johnson. Of course, much of this was accomplished by the very methods he felt so threatened by: a kind of six-degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon approach to political rectitude, in which the existence of even a search-engine-generated connection between two people anywhere in the world implied a mutual back-scratching, an ideological partnership. It was unfair and simplistic and petulant, but it also seems to have achieved its goal. Very few people on the right want to be linked with Charles Johnson anymore."

Father O'Furniture; Paddy, Druid(??):
Doubtless the Turks assisted the US with many sensitive/secret operations during the COld War, and quite probably performed many criical operations that we ourselves couldn't do, the alternative being war. But the relationship was a 2-way street, with the Turks getting a bit more than they gave.
Check the last 300 years or so of Russo-Turkish relations. Also look at the Turkish economy (or better, the average living conditions compared to Europe) during that time; it's a more or less steady decline since the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent. The decline tracks well with the decline in the percentage of Jews and Christians in the popluation. Now check the effect of US involvement (i.e., post WW2) in Turkey.
As a poster troll representing himself to be a religious figure, you doubtless know the importance religion holds in the the lives of believers; the more devout, the greater the importance. Doubtless, you are also familiar with the Quran and the Hadiths. THerefore, you must realize that every Muslim has a calling, literally by God Himself, to behave a certain way towards fellow Muslims, Jews, Christians, polytheists, and apostates. This is the written word of God, and there can be no alteration. Doubtless, you understand all this, so there is no need to elaborate further.
I've met many Muslims (here in the US, 2nd & later generation) who either never verbally mentioned their religion (but did not really hide it), or at some point said something to the effect "BTW, yeah, I'm Muslim", and that was it. They acted like everyone else, treated others as we treat each other, etc., etc. But I've also met others ... And all this was here in the US, where Judeo/Christian/Western Enlightment-descended American Law unquestionably holds sway.
But step outside lands where Western laws are enforced, and things change. There's a very large secular population in Turkey, nominally Muslim I suppose, but Christians, the remaining jews, and any others aren't quite ...... the secular deal when Muslims are in charge really isn't quite what we in the West understand it to mean.

This about-face stuff fascinates me.
When I hear of someone pining about Walter Cronkite, I think of it as a child-like response, to the days when there was some old wise man who would explain everything and unburden people from having to think for themselves.
It's mythical to think that Cronkite was some sage arbiter of fact. He was a reporter with standard biases, and for all the shortcomings of our current media-age, I think the political discourse now is much more mature and healthier now than in the 1960's and 70's, where a few organizations controlled the national narrative.
People like Johnson and Sullivan who for years led the cheer leading Bush's foreign policy, and then on a dime turned around and threw their lot in with the likes of Kerry and Obama are emotionally unstable and not to be trusted, by anyone. People can think anew and change their political stripes, but typically this is an evolutionary process and involves a lot of soul-searching which is notably absent for these two figures.

Waiting an hour and expecting your previous meltdown post to be forgotten is real lightweight stuff.

Your posts #592, #594 and #597 are, to quote an "expert" :

You have no original material, worse, what you post is only accusations and mouth, and poorly done at that, a lesser achievement than the bullshitting that Kos uses.
Constructing a real rebuttal to a post is beyond your intellectual capabilities.

605 Druid's Psychiatrist
Hahahahaha. You have a life doing what (on Saturday mornings), trolling blogs way out of you league, inviting a good spanking or several. IÂ’m back from a brief warm-up and beer run.
Your "astute, well-informed, knowledgible [sic], witty, clever and sometimes poignant comments" do not even impress an 8 year old; for starters, 8 year olds are usually unimpressed by a display of ordinary vocabulary (they do it in school), and know how to spell "knowledgeable".
You panic at the first sign of informed argument. Have you still not learned to do your research or homework? You end up looking and reading like a snotty 14 year old thatÂ’s just been treed by an old guy with a garden hose.
Take a couple of years off, get at least a high school education (this includes graduation) so you can be considered "caught up". Then come back.

Your panicked response #576
Judging by your writing, you felt it, and didnÂ’t enjoy it much, since youÂ’ve evaded any direct response.
Let me guess: you had "friends" in your basement, and were showing them your blog-fu. Post 571 was not supposed to happen, so you had to pretend that youÂ’d type a witty response while they moved their butts down to the White Castle to bum/scavenge loose fries.
You then typed a panic response before following. You spent the next hour distracting them by bitching about having to find a job before you feigned a titanic rage and swore to come back and really write something.
Exit question: did they buy your act share the fries and drinks they scavenged?

Christian-influenced nations have grappled with the concepts of freedom for a little while longer, perhaps because they were more connected to the world as a whole. The ME, by contrast, could be described as insular. In short, I'm saying that Islamic-influenced nations are simply at a lower stage of development.

So much for CJ's claim to pretensions and his precious 'gated' community.
If I can live in one, anyone can.

I feel your pain.
But look at the brighter side. You've got your own private lake, and all of those old canoes and rowboats that you can use anytime for free, right?

I was wondering about that. There is are several gated communities in Inglewood including one that's five minutes from me. I live in South Central.

You continue to make my point, you loony. Thanks. (Pssst, the loony just said, "Duh".)
Forgive me Lord for having these thoughts. But they make it so easy. LOL

"Astute"....oh what a self-absorbed effete. You have such an overrated opinion of yourself for a dimwitted asshole. The only life you have is with a bottle of lotion and Rosie Palm and her five sisters.
Go back to your bunker, Charles.

Well, c'mon thweetie. I can't wait all day for you to get back home, you astute, well informed, knowledgible (sic), witty, clever, and (sometimes) adequate man, you.
We'll play that Turkish Midnight Express prison game you love. I'll be the brute-ish guard to your Brad Davis.

Charles banned me for refusing to join him in condemning the image of Witch Doctor Obama as "racism."
He can't seem to understand the difference between a satirical image that criticizes a black person, and a satirical image that criticizes a black person for being black.
Leftists always want to claim that they are opposed to racism, and yet race is never very far from their thoughts. Whereas a conservative or libertarian can look at an image of Obama as a witch doctor and see a cogent criticism of his policies as president, a leftist looks upon this image and can only see his race. The leftist doesn't see a president, or even a person really, but a race object.
I think that this is a big part of why they cast critics of Obama as racists. They are projecting the hatred and disgust they feel towards black people (or any other ethnic group that differs from their own for that matter) onto the rest of us. The profess tolerance because it is precisely what they do not feel themselves.

I really don't know what the hell a gated communist is but I am disgusted by the very idea.
Did you hear about that doofus they arrested in the Egyptian exhibit at the museum yesterday? He accidently knocked over one of the statues of a sky goddess and it broke into several hundred pieces when it hit the floor. The proprieters say it's ruined.
The paper says he's going to be charged with "carelessly busting a Nut in front of several witnesses in the middle of a museum ".

Maybe he has a brain tumor? There is at least one documented case of a brain tumor turning a normal man into a pedophile. Once the tumor was removed, he was no longer a pedophile. If a tumor can turn a normal guy into a child molester, it isn't too hard to imagine it turning someone into a leftist asshat.
Charles, if you're reading this, go get an MRI and a CAT scan STAT.

He must be hard up for hits now, because I just noticed my IP has been un-banned. Well, I looked over his recent posts and see I haven't been missing anything, so I won't be back.
He's been much more tolerant lately. Methinks it's due to the NYT article hit and the regurgitation gig at True/Slant.
Posted by: Charles' Cult-of-Clowns at January 24, 2010 02:44 AM (d7Px0)
charles, you can't have it both ways, you jerk.
he also made one of the dumbest analogies i have yet seen. he compared obama's literal bow to saudi arabian prince faisel to a figurative "bowing" of previous presidents to the saudi oil monster. the first is hardly debatable, the second IS. it was a completely ridiculous analogy. you can't compare the literal with the figurative, and an analogy only works when you are comparing things with a high degree of similarity. the figurative and the literal would not fit that desscription.
it's crap like this that just illustrates charles' lack of logical faculties. he's a moron, and is agressive in his ignorance, which is a dangerous thing.

And that, folks, is what passes for an intelligent life form here.
No wonder aliens from other galaxies want to give
life on this planet a few more milleniums to develop before they make
us aware of their presence.
More intelligent than you are apperently, and also with more of a life.
As for aliens showing up, that would just give us more time to develop better weapons to kill them when they do drop in.
