— Ace A possible explosion; I don't really understand why there is some doubt about whether there was an explosion or not.
All 13 workers are accounted for.

Not as suspicious as you'd think... The owner of the rig is Mariner Energy, which is a subsidiary of BP. Mariner's in the process of being sold off to Apache to pay off BP's costs for the Deepwater Horizon spill.
BP screwing up another well isn't as suspicious as a random 3rd party doing so.

This was not an explosion. It was simply a rapid and momentarily-uncontrollable re-organization of petrochemicals into stabler, more basic formats. With a by-product of heat.
I will take no questions, because honestly I slept through this shit in Chemistry, and have no idea what the words I am reading actually mean. But hey, I wrote stuff on my hand! Lulz! Palin is dumb!

When was the last oil-rig explosion before the BP blast? A long, long, time ago, I think.
Waiting for an upgrade to alleged oil-rig explosion. Or unexpected, unprecedented....

Spill info:
An offshore oil rig exploded Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico, injuring at least one worker, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
All 13 people on board the Vermilion Oil Rig 380 have been accounted for, and the one who was injured is being transported to a hospital, Coast Guard Petty Officer Bill Colclough said.
The rig is believed to be on fire, Colclough told CNN in a live telephone interview. He said it has not yet been determined whether there is a leak as a result of the explosion.
[ . . . ]The latest blast was reported by a commercial helicopter company about 10:30 a.m. EDT Thursday, the Coast Guard said.
Seven helicopters, two airplanes and four boats are en route to the site about 80 miles south of Vermilion Bay along the central Louisiana coast, the Associated Press reported.

This non-operational rig exploded today west of the BP gusher that was capped, and recently uncapped to fix the cap.
Would the pressure from the BP capped gusher be the reason leading to the non-operational rig to explode oil?

This non-operational rig exploded today west of the BP gusher that was capped, and recently uncapped to fix the cap.
Would the pressure from the BP capped gusher be the reason leading to the non-operational rig to explode oil?
The simple answer is no. Oil reservoirs do not extend for miles. Oil accumulates in geological faults and traps. One field is not connected to another and generally are not even at the same depth. Where the oil and gas is located all depends on where the "trap" is located.
Posted by: Mr. Dave at September 02, 2010 09:10 AM (pcJe3)
In an initial flyover, no hydrocarbon spill was reported.
Mariner has notified and is working with regulatory authorities in
response to this incident. The cause is not known, and an
investigation will be undertaken. During the last week of August
2010, production from this facility averaged approximately 9.2
million cubic feet of natural gas per day and 1,400 barrels of oil
and condensate.

Two things:
(1) Just because it's a subsidiary of BP does not mean it's run by the same people.
(2) Fire occurrence is always a great risk on a rig, whether land, shallow water, or deep water.
