Olbermann Pre-Empted, Howard Kurtz Hardest Hit
— Slublog

Like DrewM, I enjoy watching the Winter Olympics. Unfortunately, the broadcast rights to those games were given to NBC, whose network coverage has been...less than ideal. Fortunately, NBC has two cable channels that have picked up the slack. Both MSNBC and CNBC have almost proven their worth by covering, with limited inane commentary, some of the best events - curling and hockey.

This evening, Sweden and Great Britain faced off in curling. The epic match was covered on MSNBC, and preempted much of their prime time schedule. The half-dozen Olbermann fans out there were outraged by this programming decision, chief among them totally objective media reporter Howard Kurtz, who wrote the following on Twitter:

Keith Olbermann has been preempted by...curling? Don't they realize there's a health care summit tomorrow??
What, exactly, was Kurtz expecting on the health care debate from Keith Olbermann? Keef is nothing if not predictably partisan and outrageously outraged by any Republican who dares disagree with The One. No serious media reporter should bemoan the preemption of Olbermann, who is really nothing more than a carnival barker for the left at this point.

Don't feel bad for Kurtz, though. The curling match ended with a Swedish win, and the restoration of outrageous outrage to the airwaves:

Olbermann back in action. Curling ran long on MSNBC. Whoever made this programming decision should be Worst Person in the World.
I hope, for Kurtz's sake, that the delay wasn't too stressful.

Howard Kurtz, this long-distance request and dedication is for you, pal. Was the Special Comment good for you? I hope so, because your pining for Olbermann shows your...

Update - Oh, my. Olbermann using his sick dad to argue for health care reform. Howie Kurtz is moved. Oh, the humanity!

Update II - Honestly, I do feel bad for Olbermann's father, but I have a real problem with people using personal tragedy to advance public policy.

If the programming decision he's referring to is putting Olberf*ckhead "back in action", I totally agree.

It's a shame: ten years ago I loved Howie Kurtz's column, and he was very even-handed and did great wrap-ups of the news.  He was especially good during the crazy 2000 election.

Now he's a shell of his former self

Funny how many of these hacks have gone over the edge, isn't it? I think it's due to many factors (Clinton impeachment, 2000 Election, Iraq, etc.), but I think the biggest one concerns the fact that these people ain't getting any younger. They imagined taking part in crafting a new world very different from the one we live in. It kills them things haven't gone to plan. They know they won't be around to help usher in the Brave New Utopia, and they're seething over it.

I hope they all die in a car fire.

Of course, if YOUR father does not want to be killed, even though he's suffering, that may not matter.

I just bought a RAV4, before this all happened. And something the media is not telling you is that the Toyota's built in Japan(like mine) aren't part of the recall. It is only the American built Toyota's that are being recalled. You won't hear this come up at the show trial. It turns out the company who makes the part for the pedal is in wisconsin and they outsourced it to china. That is why the pedal mechanism is shit. However the ones in Japan are japanese made and therefore of a much higher quality.

They shouldn't have paraded around with that flag until they knew.  Kinda cocky.

SK and China were running 1 and 2 in the short skating program or something.  In one of those hard turns, the SK woman pushed off the China skater with a hand while getting her feet in the way at the same time.  Close call, but looked like a good call.

Then SK paraded around doing victory laps before the judges decided, as if that would affect anyone's decision.

However, I am willing to watch Leo diCaprio play a twisted fuck. I saw Shutter Island because it looked like a movie that someone bothered to actually, you know, produce.

Raise your hand if you have no desire to see Matt Damon in Green Zone

i've noticed that every movie he is in his character has special powers. In the Bourne series he is a superhuman assassin. In Rounders he is a superhuman card player. In Good Will Hunting, he is some super human genius. I can't think of a movie he did that was a box office hit that did not follow that formula.

also without seeing the greenzone, i can spoil the ending for you. The Americans did it, the oil companies did it and the military industrial complex did it.

I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me an Olberdouche. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror... Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. That's why I write for the Washington Post and Keith is my BFF. If they are not, then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies!

I remember when I was with CNN... seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate some children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there, and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. Just like at a pro-profit HMO. And I remember... I... I... I cried, I wept like some grandmother or a DNC activist. I wanted to tear my teeth out; I didn't know what I wanted to do! And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it... I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought, my God... the genius of that! The genius! The will to do that! Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. If only we had nationalized medicine. If only. And then I realized they were stronger than we, because they could stand that these were not monsters, these were men... trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love... but they had the strength... the strength... to do that. To fuck Keith's chicken.

If I had ten divisions of those men, our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment! Because it's judgment that defeats us. That. That and the Tea Partiers.

The horror. The horror. Of seeing Keith's hairy bag.

137 b. Put the glass inside the laser engraver, please start the engraving when the paper is wet. Then take out the glass, clear away the remnant paper and clean the surface of glass. If necessary, we need to polish the surface of glass with 3M scotchBrite. Generally speaking, the laser power needs to be installed much lower, the resolution needs to be installed as 300dpi, we can try to use the big standard lens to engrave.

as a professor of sooper smart global warming stuff( you and i  know this is full of shit) , i must take offence to these nordic types and their ice... first we know that their playing ice games is a racist slap to our african warlord and his reich-warmer, algore... secondly we progressives wait all day to hear what his oberlord has received from our ministry of truth... the large audience of oberlord(17) demand an end to these racist games...

when we progressive professors don't get our way we tend to shoot up faculty meetings and siblings, so don't fuck with us...

the other day a few of us progressive types tried to get into a soldout film- notice, not a movie... they told us that it was closed so we did what any professorial progressive would do... we went home to get our guns and killed everyone in the film...afterwards we all went home and shot a sibling or two...great fun was had by all and the next time- DON'T FUCK WITH US CRAZY BASTARDS...

Remember when this happened?

FOR THE RECORD

TV listings: The Prime-Time TV grid in Thursday’s Calendar section mistakenly listed MTV’s “Jackass” show on the MSNBC cable schedule at 7 and 10 p.m. where instead MSNBC’s “Countdown With Keith Olbermann” should have been listed.

ItÂ’s not the Worst Mistake in the World.

But without this kind of correction, online too, a few thousand people might have tuned into MSNBC, the Obama administration’s favorite cable channel, expecting to see a “Jackass” show, and instead they’d have found Olbermann.

Worse, what if nobody noticed the difference?
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/ washington/2009/08/keith-olbermann-jackass-mixup.html

There is no difference.
