Olberman's Ratings Dropped 44% In One Year
— Dave in Texas

This past year, not to put too fine a point on it.

Some of it was ground gained by Headline News and CNN, and they all still suck wind behind O'Reilly (not a fan but whatever), whose show was the only cable news program to grow it's audience in the same time period (55%, even with boycott threats and all).

After a while shrill gets pretty tiresome (not to me, I actually find him entertaining again). I mean, how do you top shrieky hysteria and all those stern angry lectures night after night? By playing hard left the only game he has is to hold on to what he's got, and he's doing a piss-poor job of it if he loses almost half of em in the first year of Obama's administration.

With these shifting political fortunes, you run the risk of becoming the fan-boy of failure.

Which I'm guessing leads to more bitterness and contempt, not less but what the hell do I know?

5 My prediction:  Keith "Three-Axe-Handles" Olberrmann is committed to an institution roughly about the time the dhimmis lose the house.

He is currently in the throes of a full-tilt meltdown.  I'm with Dave; it is enjoyable to watch!

Holy Cow!  That "S" just posted itself!  Yikes, my laptop is possessed!  Anyways, that sounds like my moonbat cousin.  He thinks that Rachel Maddow and Keith Ohlbermann are the best "news shows" because they "do so much research, and everything is so well sourced."  No lie.  Crazy, huh!

Posted by: runningrn at February 02, 2010 09:58 AM (CfmlF)

12 I've always thought that his show (along with Maddow's but to a lesser degree) was just awful in that their take on EVERYTHING was predictable. No analysis, no pushback. And Olby comes off like such a jerk that even when he tries to snark it sounds stupid. Sooner or later (I'll take sooner) you'll see a "reshuffling" at MSNBC whereby Olby gets "shuffled" out of the lineup. NBC has shareholders to answer to and fewer viewers means fewer ad dollars not only for his show but for those that follow Countdown.

My wife watched Olberman for the first time on the night Scott Brown was elected.  I had switched it over from Fox after Coakley had conceded in order to dip my balls in the delicious liberal tears.

She was amazed on a number of levels, but not in a good way.

Seems to me that GE has already decided he is gone, and is seeding this story to get the ball rolling.  Otherwise why write an article about someone that literally noone is watching?

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, though.

17 Odd how being in complete and total control of the government hasn't been good for the most egregious of the Dem's cheerleaders. Sadly, I expect the more seats Republicans take in the House/Senate, the better Olby/Maddow will do in 2010/2011.

ABC,CBS, MSNBC all poll in the mid to low 30's while Fox covers 49%.

My theory is that for all three broadcast networks, it's the same 30+% uber liberal nutroots, while Fox is only scoring 49%  out of the other 65% that are smarter than to buy into the liberal spin of the broadcast media. The 16% Fox hasn't gotten yet, generally either get their information from the Internet or the Weather Channel.

But when ABC/CBS/MSNBC claim 33/34/36%, I'm claiming it's the same people for all three, and these people look around and think "I agree with 3 out of 4 networks so I'm mainstream and Fox is radical." The truth is closer to the 50% that watch Fox, think they're somewhat moderate or center right, and realize that all 3 other networks are Uber-Left. No matter how Conservative you think Hannity or Beck or O'Reilly is, the average Fox VIEWER polls center right. Not nearly as far right as those broadcasters.

Meanwhile CNN maintains it's schizophrenia. It want's to join the other three liberal broadcast networks, but realizes it would be competing in the most over sold market out there. Air America's recent demise indicates that might be a financially wise decision for them. Air America was a failure because when all is said and done....it was redundant competition with 3 other networks.

22 In a sane world, perennial low performer Keith Olbermann would have already been busted back to the sports beat, or better yet, blowing hobos at truck stops for spare change.

Of course, in a sane world, perennial low performer Dan Rather would have been canned by CBS in 1983 after 3 years of occupying third place in the ratings instead of letting him occupy third place in the ratings for over 20 years.

In general, on the daily "Scoreboard" threads covering the ratings disparity between FNC and CNN/HLN/MSNBC, the usual wound-licking comments from the FNC-haters is:

1)  FNC's outrageous ratings only further prove that America is chock-full of idiot simpletons who want to be lied to.

2)  Just because Beck pulled in 3.9M viewers last night doesn't mean that ALL of them like him!  Heck, most of them are probably liberals who enjoy the spectacle!

3)  The main reason FNC ranks so highly is because every airport / waiting room / hotel lobby television is perpetually tuned to them (with the occassional addition of an anecdote where they belligerently complained to a hapless receptionist, or a conspiracy-theory that Roger Ailes distributes universal remote-controls to his myriad followers, who then descend upon the public arena, changing televisions!).

4)  Defiance...so what they aren't doing well?  The truth is never popular!

It's fun to read.

37 This further proves that all democrat talking points are projection.  Remember, they said that with Clinton gone, Rush Limbaugh would lose his audience as there was noone left to hate.  Oops, it looks like the hate existed with the pied-piper of hate filled lefties.  I guess it's hard to maintain that Bush hating fire when the fuel's gone.

38 The Sports Mustache averages about 1 million viewers per night and sinking, and Maddow loses 10% of those in her snoozefest, and she's sinking faster.  Schultz is at 560K/night.

Contrast that with O'Reilly at 3.7MM, Beck at almost 2.7MM and Hannity at 2.6MM.  Better yet, contrast that with Red Eye, which shows in the middle of the freaking night, and still gets almost 400K.

So either FOX is making megabank on their talkers, or MSNBC is losing its shirt on theirs.  If Comcast blows the thing up, we'll know which one it was.

What neither Keith O or MSNBC doesn't understand is, it's not just about the ratings, there is going to be actual consequences for their behavior over the last few years. I feel sorry his family, because his name is MUD!

I suspect we will never see him on MSNBC or Sports Casting again after Obama loses in 2012 or soon there after.

It's probably going to get real ugly over the next few years, becuase they know their chicken is cooked, and they are going to make one last big push to manipulate the population.

40 Layoffs to hit CBS News next week from the L. A. Times.

  January 29, 2010 | 1:24 pm

"CBS News employees are bracing for a significant round of layoffs that will hit the news division next week, according to multiple sources. The budget tightening is expected to affect every newscast, including “60 Minutes,” the networkÂ’s crown jewel, although that show will likely suffer minimal losses.

People familiar with discussions about the cuts inside the news division have heard that the total number who could lose their jobs could reach as high as 100, or 7% of the approximately 1,400-person staff. A news executive disputed that, saying the final figure would be considerably lower.
"

Obama continues to save the important jobs. Is there nothing he can't do?

Quite investing and buying GE products People. Pass the Word!

We have already caught GE making sweetheart deals with the Obama Administration in the BullShit "Green Technology" realm, so if we can minimize the legislation that gets passed, and quit investing and buying their products, hopefully someday the Corporation will be brought to it's knees.

I hate to have to play it that way, because many people lively-hoods are at stake, but we can't have one of America most powerfull corporation playing footsie with the Commies all in the name of Profit and Power!

There are other great companies out there to invest and buy from!

47 It's funny.. Olbermann blogs over at Daily Kooks once in a while.. I don't bother reading that claptrap, but the Kooks just lap it up..

But the funniest stuff is when a blogger writes a diary with a title like "Olbermann PWNS {insert your Republican name here}!!!!!!!"

And then they go on and on how now the nation can finally see the truth in the news, not like the stuff Beck or Hannity puts out.. blah blah blah..

No one bothers to tell them Olbermann's viewership amounts to the equivalence of 2 cub scout packs and the poor people forced to watch him while stuck at bars in airports... oh yeah.. and the other daily kooks who can't decide who is awesomer.. Keith or Rachel Maddow...  *barf*
