OMG: NYT Says Jason Mattera is Talking Like a Black Guy
— Ace

How desperate are they for the racism charge?

I saw this charge earlier, but had no idea what it was about. In the middle of the first clip here, Andrew Breitbart calls this NYT reporter "despicable" to her face.

Here's the article.

CPAC Speaker Bashes Obama, in Racial Tones

By KATE ZERNIKE

How can conservatives win the youth vote that overwhelmingly went for Barack Obama in 2008? At the Conservative Political Action Conference, apparently, some are betting on using racial stereotypes.

In a panel appealing to conservatives under 30, Jason Mattera, author of a forthcoming book called “Obama Zombies: How the Liberal Machine Brainwashed My Generation,” likened the gathering to “our Woodstock.”

“Except that unlike the last gathering, our women are beautiful, we speak in complete sentences and our notion of freedom doesn’t consist of snorting cocaine,” he said, “which is certainly one thing that separates us from Barack Obama.”

After the laughing died down, he added, “Actually, on the cocaine front, I do believe many people in America viewed Barack as they do drugs: it was a substance to experiment with.”

Dramatic pause for more laughter, and then, “But like most narcotics, the hangover afterward has them thinking, What the hell did I just do?”

It's not a racial stereotype that Barack Obama did cocaine. He did do cocaine. It was in his Bill Ayers' autobiography.

...

He then mocked what he described, with a Chris Rock voice, as “diversity,” including, he said, college classes on “cyber feminism” and “what it means to be a feminist new black man.”

Now, here's the clip. Go to 3:30. That's where he's supposed to do the "Chris Rock voice."

Did you hear it?

He didn't do a "voice." That's his voice, you moron. That's the way the guy talks, you fucking imbecile.

I've talked to him in person. Lady -- this is not a "Chris Rock voice." This is Jason Matter's actual voice. And, by the way, if he's doing a "voice," how is it he does the entire address in this voice?

It's odd that this woman identifies an accent (here, a Brooklyn accent) as "black."

Accents tend to sound (sorry) uneducated to the upper-crust. Funny that the enlightened NYT reporter hears what sounds to her like an uneducated inner-city accent and deems it "black."

So what have we learned? Jason Mattera's Brooklyn accent sounds "black" to Kate Zernicke, but Jason Mattera, you see, is the one indulging in racial stereotypes.

BTW: This is no bullshit. I have talked to Jason a fair amount. This is how the man talks.

I guess he talks like one of those darkies Kate Zernicke has seen on the subway sometimes.

This microphone it is on?  Yes, I can now be MC Hadji and my peeps?  They will be hearing my words?  Yes?  Good.

Do you know what the difference is between white people and black people who live in Brooklyn?  No?

Neither does the New York Times...

What did one Brooklyn person say to the other person who was also from Brooklyn?

Hello.

What?  What else would they say?  They are from Brooklyn.

But it is funny towards me that the reporter from the New York Times does not know of the sound of the people in New York City.  I, a lone traveller from far away can tell the people from Manhatten  from the people from Queens from the people in Bronx from the people from New Jersey ... but, to be honest, the people from New Jersey also smell different ... more like that of a camel after a long trek that is anxious to be mated

I keed.  I keed.

A short trek.

107 Katie's major problem is clearly an excess of late-night TV viewing, to the exclusion of actual interaction with real (non-televised) people...

That, and lack of any discernible intelligent mental activity above the minimum required to poke a keyboard and chew gum more-or-less simultaneously.

Posted by: J.S.Bridges at February 19, 2010 08:48 PM (LUh9r)

108 Following the news for the last couple days has really depressed and concerned me.

First the media reported that the lunatic who crashed his plane into the IRS building was some sort of right-wing tea partyer, despite the fact that his "manifesto" bashed Bush, organized religion, corporations, and capitalism, while portraying communism is a positive light and apparently agitating for socialized medicine. He made no mention of Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, the national debt, the federal budget deficit, or...you know...the tea party movement. So, while most of the evidence indicated that he was a leftist, and very little of the evidence indicated that he was a right-winger, the media reported the story as if he was...a right-wing "teabagger."

Meanwhile, the media does their best not to make any mention of the fact that the nutty college professor who shot all those other academics down in Alabama was a flaming leftist who worshiped Obama.

And now this. We have a conservative speaker who was merely speaking in his own voice who is being accused by the New York Times of speaking in some sort of mocking black accent. This is a complete and total fabrication, but the country's "paper of record" is running with it.

Rush Limbaugh calls the "mainstream media" the "state-controlled media." He's kidding, of course...except he's really not. Our "mainstream media" has become about as credible as Pravda or Granma. They may not be owned or controlled by the government, but apparently they don't have to be in order to know what the "party line" for the day should be.

Has it ever been this bad? I don't remember the media ever being this biased; we are now at the point where "up" is being reported as "down," and things that simply did not happen are being reported as if they did happen. Literally.

I realize there has always been some media bias. It seemed to get especially bad during the 2004 Presidential campaign. And it was very bad during the 2006 elections as well. And 2008 was the worst I'd ever seen it.

Well, until 2009.

Huge scandal involving a prominent national organization with ties to the President that includes pimps, hoes, lies, tax fraud, and underage illegal immigrant girls, all caught on tape? Most of the media refused to report on it for days, if at all.

Huge scandal involving hacked emails that show leading climate scientists gaming the peer review process, conspiring against other scientists, hiding data, homogenizing data, "losing" raw data, and trying to manipulate the data in order to arrive at a predetermined conclusion, all while world leaders are meeting at a conference that could have led to the transfer of trillions of dollars of wealth and the creation of a massive international regulatory regime? (Whew.) Most of the media have made the barest mention of it, and only then to dismiss it as much ado about nothing by a handful of anti-science kooks.

And then of course there was the Rush Limbaugh-St. Louis Rams story, where a guy who is referred to by the media as a "civil rights activist" but who is actually a racist (Al Sharpton) accused a non-racist (Rush Limbaugh) of being a racist using completely fabricated quotes as "evidence." These quotes were then spread all over the news without the slightest bit of fact-checking.

But now, today, in 2010, I believe it's gotten even worse than that. And I don't think there is any going back for these "mainstream media" institutions. They spend more time spinning events 180 degrees, burying legitimate (even major) news stories, and creating "stories"out of thin air than they do actual real journalism.

I know it, you know it, and millions of Americans know it. But the frightening thing is, millions more don't know it. They honestly believe everything they read in the newspaper or see on TV. And they vote. And that worries me, not just for 2010, but for the future of the republic.

OT - saw a piece about the Nisei (Japanese-American) internment in WW II over at Big Government, and cut loose with a rant.  But those pussies don't like long comments, so I figured that here, Teh Home of teh Whopper, would be the next best place.

..............................

I think holding the past to the standards of today is stupid and accomplishes nothing.  We would learn more by trying to fully understand what the mindset and circumstances were that made such actions seem acceptable at the time, and whether those were in any way based on reality.  With respect to the relocation of people of Japanese ancestry, there are a few facts that are seldom if ever mentioned.  One fact is that there were actual spies and collaborators among the Japanese in the US, even among citizens.  This in no way should be taken as saying that most or even a significant minority of Nisei were disloyal, only that it did actually occur, and in more than a trivial few instances.

Another is one that I have never before heard mentioned.  By way of introduction, I will mention that one of the most infamous of these relocations and internments was of the Nisei from Bainbridge Island, Washington.  This event has often been cited as the most egregious example, because of the fact that this community was long established among the founders there.  But there is something that most Americans do not know that serves to put this act in perspective - not justify it, mind you, but to lend it a context in which it becomes somewhat understandable.  Bear with me.

The date of the US victory over Japan at the battle of Midway, widely accepted as the early turning point of the Pacific war, was June 4, 1942.  That is just slightly less that 6 months after Pearl Harbor.  6 months.  Let that sink in a little bit.

Less than 6 months after Pearl Harbor, a force of 2 US carriers and relatively few other US warships went up against a force of 4 Japanese carriers and a large contingent of front-line Japanese battleships (the US had relatively few battleships that had not been eliminated at Pearl Harbor).  Of the 6 carriers that entered the battle, only one came away to fight again - an American one.  The other 5 lay on the floor of the Pacific to this day.  Of the hundreds of Japanese planes and pilots who entered the battle, essentially none survived to fight again - there was no place for the Japanese planes to land, even if they were not shot down, and the pilots killed.  Less than 6 months after the Japanese used the carrier strike force weapon for the first time in warfare to deal a stunning blow to the US, we used a much smaller force to annihilate an even larger carrier force of theirs.  How did that happen?

To cut to the chase, we broke the Japanese naval codes and knew exactly what they were doing, and when, and where.  We could use our smaller force with precision, as if we were in a night-time knife-fight with our enemy, but we were wearing night-vision goggles.  This was the amazing super-secret of the early Pacific war, and it is no exaggeration to suggest that it may have saved the lives of millions by shortening the war, if not making the difference in winning it, instead of settling for a "peace" treaty.  This sort of changed history, you know?

How was this intelligence breakthrough accomplished?  Well, there were two installations on the west coast of the US that were central to the effort.  One was a huge radio reception facility that could listen to extremely weak signals that originated from clear across the Pacific, and thus could follow the course of the Japanese strike against Midway from the time it left port in Japan.  In the days before transistors, this was a technological tour de force.  The other was a code-breaking school and working facility that could read the messages that were intercepted, and feed the manpower into the task of decoding the ever-increasing flow of traffic.  This was before computers - if it was a logical operation, it was performed by a man or woman working their butts off.  (The word "computer" originally referred to a person, by the way.)

And in the days before high-bandwidth communications, the only practical way to rapidly process the torrent of intelligence that could be intercepted, was to locate the interception and analysis facilities in physical proximity to each other.

But that represented a great risk - if their existence became known to the Japanese, the possibility that we could be reading their naval codes might be deduced, and the codes would be changed - terminating our capability to read the minds of our enemy for months of not years.  And even though we now know that it (probably) was beyond their ability, in those days it was far from obvious that the Japanese could not mount an attack against these conveniently close-by installations.

If you are wondering where these ultra-secret installations that let us bloody the enemy's nose only 6 months into the war were actually located, I recommend you not give up your day job to become an amateur Sherlock Holmes!

You should have guessed the truth by now.  These crown jewels of the American intelligence capability in the Pacific were BOTH located within a few miles of each other... on Bainbridge Island, Washington.  Yes.

Think about THAT, all you military geniuses who also just happen to be paragons of morality.

ps. Bainbridge Island is a bit smaller than the island of Manhattan, so don't spout off about "hiding" anything like a king-sized radio-intercept antenna farm, or a code-breaking school, in what was basically a rural farming community.

Hilarious.  These types that push multiculturalism aren't even familiar with a culture right across the river from them.  They probably think of themselves as "the world's newspaper", but they don't even know what's going on virtually next door.

The really pathetic part, though, is that they REALLY BELIEVE that the folks on the other side from them don't worship Obama because they're racist.  This is a sort of denial is motivated by their difficulty in actually dealing with arguments from their opposition when they don't have a leg to stand on.  If they dismiss the other side with the "racist" ad hominem, then they absolve themselves of feeling any obligation to actually defend their own stance.  This is important for them, since they have a heavy emotional investment in numerous hopelessly-flawed marxist schemes that their elitism has drawn them into.

Hence they must find a way to see what they desperately NEED to see - whether it really exists or not, and nonsense like this is the logical result.

@#111-

The "old-media" is still the same...I say no change from the past. The difference (IMO) is that they have opposition with the disinfectant of truth by the new media and real journalists (yes. Ace, the bloggers here he entrusts and the growing list of new-media allies) that are threatening to push them all the way off the cliff-- Hence the noticing of more and more of the lies being exposed on a daily/hourly/minute-by-minute basis.

I am old enough to remember the lies spewed forth from Cronkrite about the Tet Offensive. At the time there was no opposition news source or commentary easily accessible and I (and a vast majority) had no clue of the depravity of the man nor the legion of minions that brainwashed Americans to push forth their self-serving interpretation of news that slanted left. They just didn't have to repeat the lies as often as they do today. Fast forward through the decades and one can (with perfect hindsight) see the rubble of their "journalistic" propaganda machine that steamrolled whatever opposed it. It remains as their sycophantic legacy for all to see...only if the individual has found the sources for truth.

Fortunately, people like Ace and all those that contribute in the battle of ideas continue to grow and gain strength. And he gives us morons a chance to actually vent out our frustrations and have a voice (something that we don't have via the old-media). And while I still get so pissed-off-I-can't-fucking-stand-it at the power and influence that the old-media still wields over a huge block of the populace; there is no denying it has diminished and will continue losing ground (just not fast enough).

With all that said--It's still a battle. They (the leftist media) and their destructive, rancid, vile, shit-eating, self-loathing, lying, condescending, arrogant, lying, elitist and did I mention lying assholes ain't going to go away.

We do have a fighting chance. We have garnered recent victories. It will be a continuous fight. I'm in (as are many more morons) and more will be joining for the duration.

Bring me Valu-Rite and a 7-iron, God-Damnit !!!...

I was watching CNN (Fox had O'Reily on) while eating breakfast. They were doing a piece on some one horse TX town where doctors had turned it into a "medical cash cow".  The fawining ball licking could not have been more obvious.  Well I guess it could if they had said the doctors were cutting off feet and removing tonsils.

In any case you could tell they were pushing for Bambi's nationalizatin of the healthcare industry. It made me wonder, what did tyhey have to say about Bush's socialist prescription drug program?  So off to Bing we go.

So how did they write it up?  Before it was signed into law their coverage was largely centered around what critics had to say.  Conservaitve critics?  Hell no. Dem critics who said that it was nothing more than a subsidy for big pharma and that it cost too much (at the same time they said it didn't go far enough).  After it was signed into law the refrain was that it cost too much and didn't go far enough.

So here we go.  It should be obvious where this is going with the media.  They didn't like Bush's socialist program because it was Bush's. They love OBambi's communist program though.  This should be a big wakeup call to the RINOs and RINO backers who think that the Rs can win over the media by backing Dem-Lite bullshit.  Even when Rs back socialist programs the media hates the Rs. You can win because the media are Dems first and socialists second.

As a NYT writer she is in the position to use political correctness as a weapon to divide the right wing. This charge of racism only has traction because we allow it. The same goes for the 'gay' nonsense, as well.

It's just a ploy to divide our side. And it's working. Just look at the silly argument about DADT. We should even be discussing such a trivial matter, yet we are, and some of us are actually treating it like a serious issue.

Do they really want the charge of racism to have no meaning whatsoever? Pathetic!

The charge of "racism" lost all meaning when Sharpton and Jessie got to be race mongers.  What kills me is the fact that the media scrambles to throw them up on the screen everytime some "racial" incident occurs.  All the blacks I know and who I have seen posting on the net disavaow both of these clowns yet the media still think they represent the "black community".

159 To have lost to Obama, of all people, McCain has to be the dorkiest candidate to run for a political office in the history of the world, and yet, like that other dimwit, Carter, he still doesn't have enough common sense to shut up and to sit down, from which I must conclude that their wives must must be the pushiest nags in this history of this planet.

160 The really bad news, the young voters. the 'we generation', are deserting Obama like a herd of wild animals. I have a few friends in that era, and they see no jobs, no jobs, and no jobs as their top three reasons.

They still are unsure why there are no jobs for them, but now know what unemployed means ... no iPod, no iPod tunes, no cell phone, a cheapo computer and having to live with mother. It's sad to see the young so wasted, and they not to be able to find the demon to blame.

161 sherlock--if you come back and read this, thank you for the history lesson.  Obviously Bainbridge Island and the code-cracking was not taught to me alongside the "zomg! internment camps!" when we covered WWII in high school.  Now I want to know more...

The other thing that never gets covered is that there were also WWII internment camps for Germans (and don't get me started on what that proto-fascist Woodrow Wilson did to Germans and German-Americans in WWI, I can go on all day).  Because that really hammers home the truth that it was about being in a state of "total war" and didn't have a thing to do with race--exactly the opposite lesson the education establishment wants kids to come away with.

that's what's so hilarious about these so called educated elite journalists - they are ignorant of the history of the bigotry they claim to abhor. When the first wave of Italians arrived on these shores in the late 1800s, they WERE associated with the "Negro" culture, and consequently experienced discrimination. This NYT Katie clown has just closed the circle on Italo-American/Negro preudice as practiced by the Man. (or in this case, the Womyn).

FWIW I'm first generation American, my parents were born in Italy, and I used to call my mother "My Black Mama". After some of my friends of color met her, they agreed with me, she definitely projected the Black Experience. Even so, she cooked a mean lasagna.

182 Those people who call themselves reporters or journalists are probably the largest collection on uncertified "professionals" in the United States.  There are no professional standards, and there are no state boards of examination.  Hell's bells, a manicurist has to take a test and be certified, but not a reporter.  In reality, a college degree is not necessary for someone to identify themselves as a "journalist."  If a doctor is incompetent, a compliant to the state board can be lodged.  There are no protections against a lousy reporter or "journalist."  Journalism is not a profession, it is a trade, lower than a dog groomer.

Giving the benefit of a huge doubt to Zernike here:

At about 3:27, the words "wide variety" come out a little different. His speech cadence makes "wide" and the second syllable of "variety" stretch longer, giving them a classical accent (duration) in addition to the modern accent (volume). That these two syllables use the same vowel sound make it come across as "black," and that his voice cracked a little bit at that point leads her to Chris Rock.

But seriously, I found that because I listened for it -- four times -- trying to find a Chris Rock voice. If he was trying to be racially whatever, he would have matched his "voice" to the words, somehow. That (assuming there is a "that")was hardly deliberate.

Either Kate Zernike is very sensitive to this sort of thing (again, benefit of a big doubt) or she badly wanted to notice something.

(But then, you wouldn't know that if you're just reading words on a newspaper. And even with accompanying audio, a lot of people will still believe it if it's in that newspaper.)

207 Problem is, if you can afford to live in Manhattan you got a great education and a great job, usually through mom or dad's connections.   But, you grew up among the country club set.  You spent all summer in the hamptons or at "the club".  You've never been on a good old fashioned American road trip to see the country.  You go to another city and are critical cause to you only NYC is the best.  The most important thing is the latest club and bottle service.  You contribute to politicians hoping they will remember how much you contributed when you need "a little favor".   You have a nice trust fund and you look to marry well when you finally settle down.  You think the world owes you and you don't owe the world.   The scary part is that when you are of the country club set and you still get taken on road trips and do other pedestrian quintessentially american things, you are spoken of behind your back and sometimes openly ridiculed.  Oh and if you didn't attend at least one ivy for either undergrad or grad well they are pretty sure you aren't going to make it in the world cause the system, wherein you get taken for a job or school is set by the "good ole boy network" and your parent's legacy.  If you come from Manhattan and your kid doesn't make the right pre school you have to leave cause they will never succeed.  It's a bizarre world but they think it is normal.   BTW, have know many from Chicago and LA and other big cities with the same kind of upbringing.  It is an entitlement upbringing that is born of the ivy league.

...and why is it that "they" hate sarah palin (they are the source of the palin derangement)? oh yeah, because she came from humble roots, didn't go to the "right schools," yet rose to the ranks of a governor - which is more then some of these morons have done, or could have done without mommy and daddy's connections and a diploma from exeter.

And why is it that "they" hate Sarah Palin?

I've been asking myself that a lot lately. It's beyond Bush derangement; it's more like the hatred of Joe McCarthy hate or of Richard Nixon. As governor, she acted more liberal than a lot of liberals on liberal issues (e.g., gay rights and abortion rights) with two exceptions: She advocated fiscal restraint and she's an enemy of the corrupt.

Sarah Palin's enemies are corrupt politicians who want governments' treasuries to be as bloated as possible so they can steal from it.

Palin is an obstacle to this way of life. That's why she's so "scary."
