— Gabriel Malor An idea simultaneously popped up on several Lefty blogs earlier today (which means it will probably be in the opinion pages of the Washington Post and the NY Times by the weekend). No links for idiots, but the short version is that some Lefties are upset that the legacy media is not giving enough attention to Aliou Niasse, the t-shirt vendor who first alerted the NYPD to the Times Square carbomb. They're particularly steamed that the media isn't trumpeting the man's religious background and national origin. It seems that Niasse is a Muslim immigrant from Senegal and these bloggers are taking the opportunity to pontificate on the overlooked "good samaritanism" of Muslims.
This stupid idea suffers from four fatal defects. First, Niasse has been recognized in every major newspaper in the country and on all the broadcast and cable news networks. So let's not pretend this is simply about giving credit to an Average Joe.
Second, the reason the Left is raising it is because Niasse is Muslim. If he were Catholic or Jewish or atheist his religion or lack thereof wouldn't matter, but the Left is very interested in seeing that it is made clear that a Muslim man helped stop Islamic terrorism.
Let me translate: the Left really want the legacy media to congratulate a member of the Muslim community because despite his faith he didn't simply stand around and let a carbomb kill people. Really, that's the story these Lefty bloggers are pushing. Otherwise there's no point in bringing up his religion. And they say that we're the ones with a repugnant view of Islam...
Third, this idea relies on the logical impossibility that Niasse knew he was helping stop Muslim terrorism. There's no way he could have known that. I suppose he could have assumed that a carbombing was likely to be perpetrated by Muslims, but I doubt very much the Lefty blogs will appreciate that line of reasoning.
Finally, you don't get bonus points for doing the right thing. Niasse was in danger himself. Of course, he went to the NYPD. He's a t-shirt vendor in Times Square and Times Square was under attack. The Left seems to believe that this fellow did something heroic, but in fact he simply noticed smoke coming from a running vehicle and flagged down a nearby police officer. I'm glad he did, but it was hardly out of the ordinary. I would expect the same from anyone, regardless of their race, religion, nationality, or political ideology. Indeed, that's one of the many reasons I am not a Leftist: my expectations don't change depending on the skin color, politics, or religion of whoever I'm talking about.

Gabe, do any of those "ideas" have a post time? I was just wondering how far apart they were and who was actually fist, and where they were (what site).
The mechanism of information dissemination and general meme velocity just seems too damn efficient on lefty blogs and newspapers these last couple of years.
That means they really do only read a few of their own blogs and almost nothing else, or there is some level of coordination going on.

In fact, the left is the one with the double standard. We're not supposed to rush to judgment on the religion of the bomber, but it should come into play when a Muslim is not a terrorist?

Jesus show on Comedy Central slate 22 projects also include sex-chat talker, 'Odd Couple' update
May 6, 2010, 12:00 AM ET
Comedy Central is set to unveil an eclectic development slate that tackles sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll and religion. The network has 22 projects in the pipeline ranging from script deals to pilots, with the usual formats of animated shows, sketch comedy and talk shows represented.
Standout ideas include a live sex-chat talk show, a program based on a Funny or Die Web short, an update of "The Odd Couple" and an animated series about Jesus Christ.
That last item could raise eyebrows coming on the heels of the network's recent censorship of "South Park" for attempting to depict the Prophet Muhammad. The show in development, "JC," is a half-hour about Christ wanting to escape the shadow of his "powerful but apathetic father" and live a regular life in New York.
"In general, comedy in its purest form always makes some people uncomfortable," said Comedy Central head of original programming Kent Alterman, who returned to the network in January after a stint at New Line.

It's a lot like how people are so amazed when a black man returns a wallet he found or amazed that a woman parked a car correctly.
It is obviously insulting. I am glad this vendor was alert and got help. Some people really would not do that... some people simply don't give a shit and will snap a picture or ignore a problem. It's hardly supererogatory to call the cops to this kind of event.
That people think this is proof of something about Islam is just nutty. On the other hand, this is much better than the average shit I see out there. If someone wanted to make a big deal over women who can drive or blacks who return wallets, well, I think it's insulting and dumb, but maybe it will actually have some kind of impact. Maybe some Muslims out there will become eager to thwart attacks?
If they are trying to argue that we don't need to go out and lynch Muslims, well, then they are pretty damn stupid. 9/11 didn't lead to lynchings and hysteria, and this obviously won't either. Anyone freaking about backlash is simply a liar or deeply fucked up.

Uh ... what is the big deal about telling cops that an SUV is smoking? I don't see how this is even relevant in any way. If the bomb was put together correctly, it would have blown. Period. Since it wasn't, it didn't blow - regardless of anyone being notified.
The overall coverage of this attack, by the left and the MFM, is just pure, unadelterated insanity and stupidity.

I remember within days after 9/11 MTV was running commercials with Muslims and other multicultural looking people saying, "We're Americans, too. Please don't beat us." Ok, so I added that last sentence, but the message was not to beat up on swarthy looking people because of a major terrorist attack. Stupid then, stupid now.

Then nerdy little toady Josh Marshall started his Talking Points Memo site, which made it all easier. On the Left, most find thinking for themselves just gives them a headache at best, and at worst forces them to examine the underlying contradictions and false premises of their entire belief system, so as you see they avoid it any way they can.

Maybe instead of an “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day,” we should have a “Beg a Muslim Not to Kill You Day,” in which non-Muslims swarm mosques and halal markets and anyone walking down the street in a hijab or in the company of a woman wearing a hijab, and we all prostrate ourselves in front of them, wailing and screaming, “Please don’t kill us! Please don’t blow yourself up or chop off our heads!”
It’d be great street theater. But of course, instead of its desired impact – to shame our fellow Muslims into speaking out against their murderous extremist brethren – I fear we’d all be brought up on hate speech charges for insinuating that our Muslim fellow citizens might ever harbor murderous intent.

Actually, there was an anti-backlash against muslims after 9/11. You didn't hear muslims mouthing off about much of anything before 9/11, but afterwards, you couldn't shut them up or stop their complaints. There were a few mosques around before 9/11, but it seems like the building of them went into overdrive after the Al Quaeda attack. America reacted exactly incorrectly to 9/11, which is why we still have the exact same problem with the muzzies. We brought more muslims into the US after 9/11 than came into the US from Columbus' first contact to the mid 20th century - for some truly insane and inexplicable reason.
I think Churchill said it best in 1899 (The River War):
"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries.
Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity.
The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.
No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science‹the science against which it had vainly struggled‹the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome."Not much has changed in 100 years, and won't change in the next hundred.

But all bombs are modeled after the one from Mission: Impossible and Loony Toons cartoons. There's a big long smoking fuse, and then Wiley Coyote looks all skinny and burnt and stuff. I believe this is covered in the civics class required of all high school seniors.
Given that a lot of people probably think that this is how every single bomb works, (let's discuss hypergolic fuels, shall we?) the Good Muslim wouldn't necessarily have known that the bomb was faulty. He did the right thing, of course, as any human being who gives a flying shit would. But the presumption behind the MFM media stands as kinda racially racist.

Look, I like the fact that a muslim guy did something good for a change. In a sense, that's real news. Is it just b/c of his religion that it's getting play? Sure. And the bomb might have gone off if it had burned a little longer. Plus, how did our vendor buddy know it was a coreligionist who planted th ebomb. He might have wanted to report someone who was nagry about the health bill.
But here's the real point in responsding to Gabe's post: the Left is almost always MORE guilty of teh racism it lays at the feet of the right than anything the actual political right (not the fringers, who, let's admit can be pretty bad) engages in.
To teh Left, all blacks are shiftless and lazy, that's why cutting welfare "hurts blacks most." To the Left, all A-rabs are terrorists, that's why they fear a massive backlash. to the left, Mexicans are too stupid to learn our language, so we have to print everything in Spanish (despite the fact that Mexico has an 89.6% literacy rate, and the folks coming over are not the highest educated of people).
It's this massive ball of bigotry, projection and guilt, masquerading as ideology. They harbor all these negative thoughts about those different from them physically, but think they can make all that badness go away by making their bigotry into this weird fuzzy blanket of platitudes and bromides. I guess they think that if they think those dirty, illiterate peons are noble savages, it's OK to still think of them as dirty, illiterate peons.

Careful, snapdragon, you're getting close to real heresy there. if you actually believe in the faith, you would not use it for cheap political point scoring on a blog.
Christ was not advancing a political agenda there. And to make Christianity a political faith (a la Islam) political is how we ended up with the Papal States/inquisition/war of roses/later crusades/hundred years war, etc.

Thanks. Because Comedy Central's censorship of South Park shows what the Left REALLY thinks of Muslims: that they're all murderous fanatics.
See, the Left SAYS that Christians are all murderous fanatics who assassinate abortion doctors and crucify gay men, but they KNOW that there are so very few murderous fanatics among Christians that they can mock Jesus with impunity. By contrast, the Left SAYS that Muslims are peaceful, patriotic A-OK Americans, but they BELIEVE that so many Muslims are murderous fanatics that they don't dare make fun of Mohammed.
That's the reason they are all so fixated on a Muslim street vendor doing what ordinary, peaceful, patriotic A-OK Americans do: they want to cling to any shred of evidence that they are wrong about American Muslims. As for the Right, the fact that there's been no backlash against American Muslims is proof that non-Leftist Americans recognize that American Muslims aren't a monolithic entity but (like all other ethnic and religious groups) are individuals with individual motivations and ideologies.

We've stopped terror attacks largely because of eaves dropping, network monitoring, interrogations, and the like. Some informants, yes, but you'll find many more individuals who will remain quiet about jihadist terrorism.
"More willing than they are in most other countries" leaves a lot of room for interpretation there. If there are two individuals willing to help elsewhere and three here, there's more here. It's very relative.
Finally, we insult because they don't condemn. Did I miss the Islamic community's outcry over the very suggestion that someone should be killed for mentioning "Mohammad" on South Park?

Why the "almost"? The modern left's whole political ideology is immersed in racism. They could not even exist without their dependence on racism. The modern left are proud to go on about their partitioning of the world into "race, class, gender". The left is pure tribalism and they are fairly effective in forcing the tribalization of society, as a whole - but only because someone let them out of their sandbox.

Democrats are looking at losing one or both chambers of Congress. Obama struggles to keep his approval rating above water. American trust in the federal government is at a record low. Congress has low-double digit approval. Republicans lead on the generic ballot.
Cap-and-trade? Dead. Closing Gitmo? Dead. Card check? Dead. Health care? Wildly unpopular even watered down to the extent it was. And Americans support its repeal.

Five Morgan Hill students sent home for wearing American flag T-shirts
May 5, 2010
By Lindsay Bryant
Five Live Oak High School students' First Amendment rights were challenged this morning when they were asked to leave school because they donned American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo. Officials at the school chose not to comment on the situation, but one student said an official called the T-shirts "incendiary."
"They said we were starting a fight, we were fuel to the fire," said sophomore Matt Dariano.
The Morgan Hill Unified School District issued this statement: "In an attempt to foster a spirit of cultural awareness and maintain a safe and supportive school environment, the Live Oak High School administration took certain actions earlier today. The district does not concur with the Live Oak High School administration's interpretation of either board or district policy related to these actions."
The five teens were sitting at a table outside during their brunch break about 10:10 a.m. when Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez asked two boys to take off their American flag bandannas. The boys said they complied. In the same conversation, sophomore Dominic Maciel said, Rodriguez told the group to "walk with him to the office."
Dariano called his mother Diana, who spread the word to the other parents, who all arrived soon after to have a conference with Rodriguez and Principal Nick Boden. The group said they were not instigating anything and did what they always do at break - sit and talk and eat.
The boys were told they must turn their T-shirts inside-out or be sent home - and that it would not be considered a suspension - but that Rodriguez did not want any fights to break out among Mexican-American students and those wearing American flags. Dariano said other students were wearing American flags but since they were a group of five "we were the easiest target to cause trouble" according to Rodriguez, he said.
The boys told Rodriguez and Boden that turning their T-shirts inside-out was disrespectful, so their parents opted to take them home.
"I just couldn't believe it," said Dominic's mother Julie Fagerstrom. "I'm an open-minded parent, but it's got to be on both sides. It can't be five kids singled out."
A front-desk secretary said Boden was unavailable for any comment on what had happened Wednesday and Rodriguez was busy with testing, the secretary said.
More than 100 students were spotted wearing red, white and green as they were leaving school. Some had the Mexican flag painted on their faces or on their arms.
Nothing in Live Oak's dress code policy addresses what transpired Wednesday, but it does state that "the school has the right to request that any student dressing inappropriately for school will change into other clothes, be sent home to change, and/or be subject to disciplinary action."
One Mexican-American student, freshman Laura Ponce, had a Mexican flag painted on her face and chest, peaking out of her low-cut shirt. She did it because, "it's our day, the only day we can show our spirit." A school administrator took away the Mexican flag she was carrying as she was waiting to go home. Ponce said: "not cool."
"There was a lot of drama going on today," Ponce said. Some were saying "Mexico sucks" while Mexican-American students responded in their second language.
"Some were yelling Spanish to us," Maciel said, who is half-Hispanic. "I couldn't understand it, but it sounded bad."
Some Mexican-American students said that their flags were taken away or asked to be put away, but none were sent home for wearing red, white and green. Since Boden would not comment, it's uncertain if any other students were sent home for what they were wearing on Cinco de Mayo.
Live Oak High School even hosted a group of professional baile folklorico dancers, who waved flags and played traditional music from Mexico.
"It's sad it's come to this," Fagerstrom said. "But we stand behind their patriotic nature and the boys expressing their individuality."
The boys wrote a two-paragraph statement that they each signed detailing their support for American patriotism and that they felt disrespected and discriminated against when their First Amendment rights were discarded Wednesday at school.
"We were not going to start a fight. We wanted to show our pride," Dariano said.

Europe is news because the left has turned it into such a unstable shithole that it is going to blow and take many down with it. Of course, this was after the left had worked their magic on the US and brought us the credit crisis, which they are now working into a nation-killng relapse. All I can say is that, when this all goes, you people had better have good hiding places.

The TV news report was also illuminating. They interviewed several Mexican-American students who said that Cinco de Mayo was the only day they had to express their pride and that they felt the other students owed them an apology for disrespecting them by wearing the American flag on THEIR day. One said (of the American-flag wearers), "We wouldn't do that to them on the Fourth of July." Which sort of indicates that they don't see themselves as Americans.

What do you think of JFK's nationally televised threat to incinerate tens of millions of men, women, children and pets in the USSR if Cuba lobbed a nuke at French Buyana? Was he a war criminal for trying to terrorize the whole of the Soviet civilian population?
"Third: It shall be the policy of this Nation to regard any nuclear missile launched from Cuba against any nation in the Western Hemisphere as an attack by the Soviet Union on the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response upon the Soviet Union."
Do you condone these sorts of threats, for attacking countries other than the US, or do you think JFK was a bad person who should have been jailed for issuing that threat?

Democrats will turn into belittling angy racists if minorities convert away from their party. Lynch mobs. Always lynch mobs. Colin Powell was called poop for years, Condi was called Bush's sex slave with puffy lips, I won't even bother with Clarence Thomas.
But nothing is worse than every day citizen voter blacks at a conservative rally. I've never seen Killgore Trout use the N word so much. These liberals are furious, and must attempt to make these people feel completely ostracized. Their party famously murdered thousands of white Republicans int heir effort to preserve racial divides, but we all know they killed far more minorities.
No surprise to see a little of that in this thread. After all, I'm not a whitey. I bet a lot of commenters here, conservatives, and not white... and we're supposed to get the message that we are not tolerated or acceptable to the democrats. We are others or whatever the fuck they call victims of stupid taunts and hate. In reality, we just don't give a shit about race.

Different point, but it's clear to me that this bomber Shahzad was selected for this attack because the superior terrorists were busy dealing with our war in the middle east, or dead from that war. Thus, that's proof positive that the war on terror is saving American lives. Even Obama deserves a fair amount of credit for keeping the heat turned up on terrorists in Pakistan and the area. They just have a hard time overcoming that. I don't pretend they will always fail, but this is a legit victory in at least one way.

Really, that's the story these Lefty bloggers are pushing. Otherwise there's no point in bringing up his religion. And they say that we're the ones with a repugnant view of Islam..."
Another fucking idiot. The left is talking about this not because he did a good thing despite his faith. The left is showing that there are good Muslims as well as bad Muslims. The only thing that gets press is the small percentage of Muslims who conduct or support terrorism. The huge majority who are good, peaceful people are ignored. This goes triple for right-wing nuts like you guys who believe that Islam is inherently violent, murderous, etc. And before one of you loons tries to quote something in the Koran that is violent, you have to realize that there is just as much horrible violence and intolerance in the Holy Bible. Those very old books are full of all kinds of things: love, peace, hate, anger, tolerance, intolerance, violence, passivity and much more. Through the years, many people have used parts of the Bible and the Koran to support hateful, violent ends. It doesn't mean that Christianity or Islam is inherently evil or violent.

The fact is, we are currently at war with the adherents of what I believe are best described as Islamic fascists. Part of their objective for victory -- a huge part, in fact -- is to claim the mantle of all muslims. You know, strength in number and all that. We, in turn, should be doing everything we can to isolate the fascists from the rest of the muslim population. Sally, I SO agree with you. Why, if Janet Napolitano wasn't as well-read and knowledgeable as she is, she might actually lose sight of the fact that the REAL hotspot of anti-American terrorism is in fact the American Midwest! After all, all those thousands of Christianist Militia Members out there are just itching to kill federal agents.
Oh, wait... actually, there were only 9 members of a group calling itself by some weird non-Christian name no one ever heard of, and it's not at all clear what is "Chrisitan" about them. And they apparantly never did much beyond talk a line of BS when they thought no one was listening... And the people around the world that routinely riot at Global Warming and Economic Globalization conferences are invariably Lefties... I keep forgetting. And the only people shooting at federal agents are illegal aliens cheered on by Lefties when Lefties take time out from rioting over efforts to stop the Mexican Drug War from spilling over the southern border into Arizona.
Why ARE Pasty White Priviliged Liberals so incredibly violence prone, Sally?? Have all your readings given you any elite insight into that issue????

There's hardly ever a peep in the press about Muslims in our own country snipping off young girl's clitorises and sewing their vaginas shut. Not much discussion at all of so-called "Honor Killings" by Angry Middle Aged Swarthy Muslim Men of their own daughters. The National Organization of Women never speaks out about the treatment of Muslim women in places like Saudi Arabia, and has yet to honor George W. Bush for all he's done for the women of Afghanistan.
But, at least you Barking Moonbat Leftist Mental Deficients speak out against acknowledging we are locked in a global struggle with Muslim extremists. Great job, champs.

We should drop Sally Ann in Tehran, wearing typical American women's clothing, so she can report firsthand on how beautiful and non-violent (and respectful of women!) Islam is.

I can't think of a single Muslim country little Sally would care to live in.
Sally, would you be a dear and name one?

Okay, let's say it's only 10 percent. That means over 100 MILLION Muslims conduct or support terrorism.
That's sure seems like a lot of Muslims.

100 million is NOT a lot of anything.

Anyone remember when Nick Berg got beheaded and that video was all over the internet? I was just learning about Islam back then and I posted it at the message board I hung out in. The board was full of liberals.
I posted it in the morning and then came back after work. There were over 100 replies so I started with the usual suspect libs and started reading their replies. It was obvious that the memo had gotten out and the prevailing liberal theory was that Berg was dead on the tape before the beheading took place. That meant that the video was a fake and was proof that the CIA did it to make Muslims look bad.
So I read most of the replies and then I picked the biggest liberal fool on the board to reply to myself. Here's what I wrote back to this idiot:
"Let me get this straight. You're saying that Berg was dead first. And because he was dead first that is proof, to you, that the tape was faked by the CIA in an attempt to make it appear to be the work of Muslims. So in other words, in your opinion, only a Muslim would behead a live man? Gee, even I don't have that poor opinion of Muslims"
There is nothing more pathetic than a liberal caught trying to dig themselves out of their holes of logic.

"felch"? "felch"?? "felch"???
Yup, your corruption of the English language makes you a typical American alright, and it appears that you are a public school graduate, too.

I don't know, common sense is in short supply these days, Maybe he's deserving a gold star on his forehead for thinking straight at least.

Maybe Niasse called the authorities hoping it would create a crowd that he could hawk his T-shirts to. Capitalism at it's best.

"Aliou Niasse, a street vendor selling framed photographs of New York, said that he was the first to spot the car containing the bomb, which pulled up right in front of his cart on the corner of 45th street and Broadway next to the Marriott hotel.
“I didn’t see the car pull up or notice the driver because I was busy with customers. But when I looked up I saw that smoke appeared to be coming from the car. This would have been around 6.30pm.
“I thought I should call 911, but my English is not very good and I had no credit left on my phone, so I walked over to Lance, who has the T-shirt stall next to mine, and told him. He said we shouldn’t call 911. Immediately he alerted a police officer near by,” said Mr Niasse, who is originally from Senegal and who has been a vendor in Times Square for about eight years. Yes you do and you do get extra bonus points for being a Muslim who doesn't want to see Americans burn. The left is right on this one. Not because stupid rednecks should be forced to see a peaceful Muslim but because we should hold any good Muslim act up as an excample (sic) to other Muslims.
Posted by: kidney at May 06, 2010 12:47 PM (pR82w)
That's really pathetic. The poor ignorant Muslims don't know how to act unless we magnanimous elite show them the way? As opposed to insulting us stupid rednecks who built this country and obey the laws and want to keep it safe for our kids? D@mn, every day is opposite day...

If you really think average Joe muslims wouldn't do the basic civil duty of reporting a bomb, indeed it's a good idea to hold up the miraculous decent Muslim example up. For those of us who aren't under that impression that all Muslims are subhuman, this makes no sense. But some people really have a fundamental lack of respect for these folks. The argument is completely rational if you rely on that premise.
