House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged her colleagues to back a major overhaul of U.S. health care even if it threatens their political careers, a call to arms that underscores the issue's massive role in this election year.
Lawmakers sometimes must enact policies that, even if unpopular at
the moment, will help the public, Pelosi said in an interview being
broadcast Sunday the ABC News program "This Week."
"We're not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress," she said. "We're here to do the job for the American people."

Who divides people by race and ethnicity?
The entire leftist regime has been playing identity politics since the 60s and I don't even include the professional race baiters in that.
Even the school systems have elliminated the old "melting pot meme" and replaced it with the phony "salad bowl" meme. They now encourage people to be hyphonated Americans instead of just Americans.
I think the U.S. beocme more balkanized every year and sooner or later the true balkinization will occur.

As for the MM site and the commentors;
I read the articles because MM writes good articles. No she doesn't blast the libtards like AC, but she does try for a more low key approach without backing down.
As for the commenters I never read them. The style of comments for MM has evolved from the early days when she had open comments like AOS. Pretty much all of the comments initially started like AOS but then the trolls showed up.
They psewed hateful filth at MM like you would just not believe. Finally because the site was becoming so filthy it was driving away people who don't like pure filth she had to throw the hammer down.
She banned the spewing trolls and establish strict guidelines. Perhaps she went too far and that caused the homogenization, but I do not blame her at all.
After all, she could have done just like AC and had no comments at all.

However, it isn't exactly true that America doesn't have a demographic problem, as eman suggests above. Much like Western Europe, the U.S. is sinking under the sustainability limit in terms of population replacement, the natural consequence being that financial obligations being accrued in favor of the retired will at some point be unpayable by the remaining highly educated, high-skill (and therefore highly paid and taxable) work force absent an influx of aliens and/or a radical reduction in benefits. And the situation is actually worse than it appears on paper, because the numbers are favorably skewed by the high birth rates of aliens already here.
Like most conservatives, I believe in an American exceptionalism born from a combination of the Christian faith and rugged individualism. But it is those very traits that are imperiled by the decline in our indigenous birth rate and the increase in alien migration. I don't think we have to go all Pat Buchanan or Michael Savage about the situation, but it is worth thinking about over the long haul. Mark Steyn has just written an excellent article concerning Greece that bears on this subject if anyone's interested.

The more you learn about demographics [and welfare-state fiscal policy], the more you realize that the Red State / Blue State divide will necessarily result in either a [successful] secessionist movement [which succeeds in establishing a new republic], or else the collapse & implosion of what we had known as the United States of America.

Bullshit.
As I recall, you also stated here a few days ago that Republican Senator Mitch McConnell is so despised by the people in Kentucky that he will be handily defeated by a challenger for his seat, Paul Rand.
The trouble with that ditzy assertion is that Rand will be running to take the seat of Kentucky's Senator Bunning, [not] McConnell's seat in the Senate. (Never mind that McConnell is one of this country's finest gentleman, who is so beloved by his constituents that he wins by a huge majority every time that he is reelected.)
Now, I'm not saying that you don't have any credibility, 'cause I wouldn't want to slander you in the eyes of these learned people here, and 'cause I wouldn't want to hurt your feelings. But ....................

The physical examination was performed by Dr. Jeff Kuhlman, a Navy captain and Physician to the President, Chief White House Physician and Director of the White House Medical Unit. Other specialists assisted in their areas of expertise. Some preliminary testing took place prior to today.
Dr. Kulhman recommends his next physical take place when he turns 50 in August 2011.
At no time was it necessary to temporarily transfer Presidential authority under Section 3 of the 25th Amendment
NOTE: The Doctor who performed the physical examination did indicate that Obama had an extremely over-sized anus, but didn't offer any explanation as to why.

Leonard Pitts presents a hyperspace tilt-a-whirl journey through his mind that, be warned, can give you whiplash!
He begins by observing that Keith Olbermann is wrong to say that the Tea Party is primarily driven by racism, on the way tricking us into thinking we may be reading something rational... If (Condolezza) Rice, Republican stalwart, conservative icon, and black woman were chief executive, would the first pot of tea ever have been brewed? One suspects the average tea party participant would tell you emphatically, "no,''...
But then Leonard regains his customary imbalance by ignoring that silly "average" thingy, and refocusing on the more fruitful fringe... Yes, race is obviously a component, and a major component at that, of the reaction against the president. The recurring use of racist imagery and language, the attendance at tea party events of a racist group like the so-called Council of Conservative Citizens, settles that definitively.
Quick, Leonard, what church did Obama attend for 20 years? Oh, nevermind.
And wrapping up, Pittsy opens up his big heart to we less enlightened... One hopes they will find answers that satisfy them (about what has happened to their country) because the change they fear will not be turned back. No one ever volunteers to return to the rear of the bus.
Recapping: a) The majority of "you people" are not racists. b) But some of you might be. c) So overall, your greatest fear is the equality of black people.
Well played, sir! Leonard, I'm thinking you could sell the logical flow of this piece to ACME Pretzel Inc. for big bucks!

The author of @49 and its execrable progeny is a racist idiot.
And yet you turn right around and make PRECISELY the same point:
However, it isn't exactly true that America doesn't have a demographic problem, as eman suggests above. Much like Western Europe, the U.S. is sinking under the sustainability limit in terms of population replacement, the natural consequence being that financial obligations being accrued in favor of the retired will at some point be unpayable by the remaining highly educated, high-skill (and therefore highly paid and taxable) work force absent an influx of aliens and/or a radical reduction in benefits. I don't know whether that's hypocrisy or cowardice or dimwittedness or what, but it's certainly internally inconsistent.
Either low-IQ ["low-skill"] Mexican Indian illegal aliens pose a terrible demographic dilemma for this nation, or they don't.
You can't have it both ways [unless you're a hypocrite, a coward, dimwitted, or all of the above].

Please. Our posts may have been related to the same subject, but our comments were obviously very different in nature.
What I wrote was a frank but clinically dispassionate and racially neutral comment regarding the effects of birth rates on demographics. The poster to whom I referred and I enjoyed a pleasant exchange and went our ways.
What you wrote was ridiculous, over-the-top hyperbole that appeared to show you hold highly racist views. Pretty much every poster here took it that way, and the moderator went back behind you and erased your comments.
Might I suggest a little honest self-reflection before you post again? If you are not in fact a racist then I'm sure you'll have no difficulty avoiding this problem in the future. If you are, please take your act somewhere else, as that's not what we're about here.

No, I hold the view that we should moderate our national policies to account for the effect of birth rates on demographics.
You, on the other hand, are a racist parasite who masks his abhorrent world view in the nomenclature of conservatism, much like the antisocial anarchist douchebags who append themselves to the moderate left. In other words, you are a "hypocritical, cowardly, dimwit," so lacking in either self-awareness or intellectual honesty that you are rejected by all sides, including the hosts to which you hope to affix yourself.
Now begone, racist, I will waste no more time on you - we have no use for your kind here.
