— Maetenloch Welcome to the boringest night of the week.
Well here's video of a Valley Girl contest that took place in Encino, CA in 1982. It's from an episode of Real People and is like a time capsule of a simpler time when ValSpeak wasn't like totally despised.
Paul of Power Line points out that the current racial rules of evidence are such that the only way to prove that you're 'beyond racism' is by essentially embracing socialism. The contra-positive of this is that if you don't embrace socialism, the one thing we know is that you're not beyond racism. So go read the whole thing you racists.

I lived in Encino in the '80's. Lots of jacuzzis in that city, and lots of Valley girls who weren't any too shy about using them without benefit of clothing.

There are a lot of bigots and racists out there... a lot of finger pointing by racist and those accused, but which came first?
The one true litmus test is that the racist holds claim to political and financial grievances which are inherited through birthright and can only be mitigated by transfers of wealth from their oppressors via the threat of the government gun.
So, one accused racists does not want his money taken via government force and given to some oppressed race.. while another accused racist wants another races money taken via the government force and transferred to them.
Good accounting rules still govern - what happened in the past is sunk today.
BTW, you fucking racist latins owe me more than Barrack could ever imagine.

O/T, even for the ONT. I have been racking my brian. For whatever reason i've been thinking about an 80s movie i saw as a kid and i can't remember the name. It may be obscure. The best description i can give, or remember, is that it is about a good looking blonde girl who runs away from something(home?) cuts her hair to look like a boy, and starts some sort of media sensation or movement or something.
it is so vague in my mind, which isn't helped by what i did during highschool and college, but i need to know the name of the film or i am going to go insane.
Can anyone help me?

Somewhat related, today is Bugs Bunny's 70th birthday... and this reminds me of something his creator, Tex Avery, once said about how audiences reacted to him in 1940:
"That opening line of 'Eh, what's up, Doc?' floored them [the audience]. They expected the rabbit to scream, or do anything but make a casual remark. For here's a guy pointing a gun in his face! It got such a laugh that we said, 'Boy, we'll do that every chance we get.'"
And today, when you think about it, when was the last time somebody actually laughed at the line "what's up, Doc?" It's gone from a gag, to a trademark.

Me too. Loved the music most of all.
I grew up in the 1980s and remember them so fondly. It was the best time in my life, but i guess everyones childhood is.
The music was great, the movies were corny but entertaining, we had Reagan, our economy was booming, we were the unquestioned good guys, the Soviets were evil. It was so great.
I am listening to 80s music on youtube to try to help me remember the name of that movie. I am currently listening to Cyndi Laupers good enough which was the theme to the Goonies.

According to Ogletree and Wald, the key to a thoughtful discussion lies in a recognition of "structural racism." The evidence they cite of such racism consists of unequal outcomes -- blacks don't do as well as whites in school, they end up in prision in disproportionate numbers, they don't get the good jobs. Ogletree and Wald want us to "tone down the rhetoric on all sides," and admit that the nation is plagued by racism.
Why isn't the marriage rate the first structure of the structural problem?

And Ontario went to a four-letter/three-number licence plate system a few years ago (replacing 3&3). This has led to real words appearing alot more often now than with the old system. For example, the first time I saw ANKH 555 I said to myself, "What a loser. Who'd be proud to have a vanity plate that at least 555 other people thought of first?" Then I saw ANKA 555 and said the same thing to myself. Then I saw ANKH 123 and the penny dropped and I realized these weren't vanity plates but were ordinary plates but that were now spelling 'real' words because of the fourth characters being used.
Well, today I saw a red convertible with the non-vanity plate (I know because it had a high number and it had the crown that separates the letters from the numbers on Ontario plates) of... BJVJ 555!
So how lucky was this guy (unless it belonged to a straight chick--it was parked so I didn't see the driver) to get a plate like that for his hot convertible when I'm certain that if he'd put in a request for a vanity plate that was BJVJ 69 (or even BJVJ 555!), it surely would have been rejected. Ha, ha--the Man screwed up!
On the dark side, I also saw a plate today of ALLH 555. :^(

Phish contributed nothing to music.
Period.
They stole, quite unabashedly, their schtick and sound and fan base.
If it wasn't for fraternity boys and trust fund hippies with their parent's credit cards, they would have been making music for commercials in the greater New England area.
They are hacks.
Tell me how you really feel.
I don't care about their fan base, or their "contributions to music", whatever that means.
I like their music.

BUT.....
He's one of many indicators of just how screwed up jazz is today. The only real creativity in jazz today is in the guys who play jazz on unusual instruments.
Like Charlie Hunter, who is frickin' awesome. The band is sitting the song out, it's ALL Charlie.
I blame Smooth Jazz. Which should be taken out into the Mojave Desert and left to die of ravening thirst, while perusing a video of Kenny G having that alto sax rammed up his squeekhole while simultaneously being fed feet-first into a woodchipper.

No, I can't make sense of that combination either.
2) The Volvo P1800 had the B18 and B20 engines - blocks made from hardened metal, low-stress design, almost indestructible if taken care of. Only problems I know of were the fiber cam gear and oiling if you assemble it wrong. Almost all of those super-high-mileage Volvos (and there are many) have engines from that series. Otherwise the cars were mechanically simple and over-built. Great "apocalypse" cars.
I still want a P1800ES (sports/wagon), I drove one for a little while, but they're expensive and rare, relatively speaking. P1800s aren't that expensive but they're a little primitive.
I had a cheap 122S (1967) as a "starter car." Simple, primitive, not very fast but just a little entertaining, hard to break. My Dad used to work on them a lot, had a bit of a collection.

What a band. Knopfler really knew how to make his guitar sing. Plus, Dire Straits was fantastic. It's just not the overproduced, 3-minute pop-shit that was and is so prevalent. You knew they could play and what was recorded was what they could put out live.
An artist.
Mark Knopfler's brother was pretty decent, too. They had good genes.

I guess that's why you're God and we are just all a bunch of worthless insect peons. it's kinda hard to see your divine plan among a bunch of math that doesn't lend itself to any solution. so yeah, thanks, God.

"ISLAMABAD (AP) — A domestic passenger jet carrying 152 people crashed into the hills surrounding Pakistan's capital on Wednesday morning, officials said. Rescuers were trying to reach the scene amid rain and difficult roads.
The cause of the Airblue crash was not immediately clear, said Pervez George, a civil aviation official. He said the plane was flying from Karachi to Islamabad.

It's on KFI here, home of John & Ken. The only real conservative KFI runs is Rush. I guess the "real" conservative radio station is the one with Prager, Medved and Hewitt, but I don't really like listening to Medved or Hewitt.

We're lucky, we have two stations -- one with those folks and another with the good one's.
Also very lucky to have one of the best local guys in Michael Berry for five hours a day if you follow him down the dial when they switch over. I still can't believe that he gets away with actually speaking his mind on the air -- God loves Texas.

But yeah, we do have to call their parents. Sorry.

Consumers must also get accustomed to plugging the cars in at home. It takes hours to recharge the vehicles, and in the absence of a network of public recharging stations, drivers that run out of juice may need a tow truck.
Time to invest in a rollback.

I'm going to put a gas powered generator on the back of a truck and provide a roadside Quickcharge™ service to the greenies. I'm thinking a quick boost should be enough to get people home or to the supposed public charging facility; more research must be done.
I'd love nothing more than to take these dopes money .

The 24-year-old, who lives near Dallas, Texas, was apprehended in March while trying to board a Moscow-bound flight with "defense articles on the United States Munitions list” without permission.
Latvia-born Miss Fermanova was arrested after returning to the USA earlier this month.
She was stopped on March 1 by officials who found a Raptor night vision weapons sight and two advanced rifle sights stuffed in a pair of UGG boots.
