— Ace Guy has virtually endorsed the entirety of the Democrats' agenda.
Well, Obama did say he wanted to be a uniter.
Here's another point of agreement.
Apparently speaking in his second audio broadcast of the month, Bin Laden criticised George W Bush, the former US president, for not signing the Kyoto Protocol on regulating carbon emissions, and spoke out against excessive corporate influence in the United States....
Demonstrating a surprising concern for the environment, Bin Laden voiced his dismay at recent international efforts to tackle global warming.
"Discussing climate change is not an intellectual luxury, but a reality," he said. "All of the industrialised countries, especially the big ones, bear responsibility for the global warming crisis."
I guess killing people is his idea of reducing the world's carbon footprint -- which is not, in fact, so very different from the agenda of Obama's science czar.
It's almost pointless to even mention this -- we all know this -- but a new study says that global warming, yup!, is responsible for the cold winters we've been having.
This winter's extreme weather -- with heavy snowfall in some places and unusually low temperatures -- is in fact a sign of how climate change disrupts long-standing patterns, according to a new report by the National Wildlife Federation. It comes at a time when, despite a wealth of scientific evidence, the American public is increasingly skeptical that climate change is happening at all. That disconnect is particularly important this year as the Obama administration and its allies in Congress seek to enact legislation to curb greenhouse gas emissions and revamp the nation's energy supply.
"It's very hard for any of us to grasp how this larger warming trend is happening when we're still having wintry weather," said National Wildlife Federation climate scientist Amanda Staudt, the new report's lead writer.
We're still having wintry weather? What the fuck did they expect would happen, even if their fanciful ersatz religion had some basis in reality?
It gets hot, it's global warming. It gets cold, it's global warming -- err, we'll call it "climate change" in such circumstances, to disguise the still-painfully-clear irony.
If it rains, it's global warming. If there's a drought, well, duh, that's global warming.
I am having a hard time distinguishing any of this from "Lightning is Thor throwing his hammer at Loki, and we have winter because Persephone is kidnapped by grim Hades for three months each year."
Basically the gods are angry or happy, and that's why we have weather.
You do know -- primitive religions do not start out talking about the soul and metaphysics. That comes later, if at all.
All primitive religions begin the exact same way: As an attempt to explain the weather. 90% of primitive magic is about the crops, making it rain, making it stop raining. Appeasing the gods so they do not visit calamity on humans with typhoons and floods and hurricanes and tornadoes and droughts and long hard frosts.
And so it goes. And so it goes.

Well, I never thought I would see Bin Laden switch to a new religion so easily! Still, he was never that good a muslim what with the "it's okay to kill all the other muslims" bit.
And it makes a lot of sense - now he's got a religion that at it's most fundamental level is dedicated to wiping out a large part of the population on this planet. He's just got the guts to put into action the things that Jim Hansen and Al Gore dream about.
Every successful suicide bomber is just another victory for Gaia.

Not always. When people used to laugh at the climate change folks when they held a conference and it snowed like hell their counter argument was "WEATHER DOESN'T EQUAL CLIMATE". And they'd say that small localized hiccups in the 'normal' way things where were just weather, but that they didn't have a relation to the overall big picture of 'climate'.
I guess they've changed that again and weather equals climate now.

"Chomsky was right when he pointed to a resemblance between American policies and the approach of mafia gangs," he said. "Those are the real terrorists." Western intelligence has yet to be verify the authenticity of the recording, which was broadcast on al-Jazeera television, but independent experts said the voice on it appeared to be Bin Laden's.

Paulson learned of the “disruptive scheme” while attending the Beijing Summer Olympics, according to his memoir, “On The Brink.”
The Russians made a “top-level approach” to the Chinese “that together they might sell big chunks of their GSE holdings to force the U.S. to use its emergency authorities to prop up these companies,” Paulson said, referring to the acronym for government sponsored entities. The Chinese declined, he said.
Why does this smell of South Ossetia ?
Did the Russians eventually trigger the near financial collapse ?
Doesn this mean it wasn't Bush's fault ?
This does show that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have foreign policy/national security elements that can't be delegated to Barney Frank and his "boyfriend" at Fannie Mae.

First of all, I doubt that Bin Laden is even alive, so who put this out?
Here are my two ideas, strange though they may be:
1. This is put out by the Obama administration- they feel the US is in full appeasement mode, and want cap and tax to pass, so they are using Bin Laden as an excuse to do it- ie, passing cap and tax will stop terrorism.
2. The enemies of Obama (I don't know who that would be, maybe the vast "military industrial complex") put this out to discredit Obama, and show him to be on the same side as Bin Laden. You know Obama=Osama. You know to stop cap and tax.
Yes, I know this is all insane. The cold, cold weather, brought about by global warming, is obviously effecting my tiny conservative brain.

The Great Lakes region had unusually cold winter in late December, lasting through mid-January. The lakes froze sooner than usual, not later.
Lake Superior entirely froze over last winter and in 2003 for freezing over twice in one decade when that usually only happens once every 20 years.
Lake Superior will freeze completely over approximately once in 20 years. When looking at past statistics ice coverage is measured in percentages. According to the Great Lakes Aquarium, Lake Superior froze over nearly 100 percent in 1996; 96 percent in 1994; and about 95 percent in 1972. The last records of complete ice coverage on the big lake is 1979 and 1962.

An observation that I keep hearing is that all these jihadists developed their terrorist tenancies in spite of having been educated in the West.
I beginning to wonder if this new jihadist strain is, in fact, a hybrid combination of old school Islamism and western leftism.
Did OBL become terrorist in spite of or because of his western education.
How big of step is it?
Leftists and Islamists both share a hatred of western civilization and they both hate America and Israel in particular.
They both hate capitalism.
Neither can tolerate the free expression of ideas that they disapprove of.
Why do more children of Muslim immigrants become terrorists than do their parents?
I think that it because they were picked up leftism in our school systems which enhanced their Islamic hatred of our culture.

Hollowpoint, in that section they're talking about lake effect snow, and they're somewhat correct. When I lived in Buffalo (my sister still does) you could get really slammed in late fall/early winter if you got a cold storm across Lake Erie and it hadn't frozen yet. Once it froze you stopped getting lake effect snow. Really cold winter means the lake might freeze early and stay that way meaning generally 'less' snow (less snow for Buffalo, which is different than less snow elsewhere). Warmer winters and the lake might not freeze and you'd keep getting hit.
Posted by: Spade at January 29, 2010 11:52 AM (7WUru)
Warmer winters and the lake might not freeze and you'd keep getting hit.
Sure, with regards to lake effect snow. Point is, the lakes haven't been freezing later, at least not this year. Even when they do, the resulting lake effect snow is localized rather than effecting an entire region. The upstream side of the jet stream isn't likely to be affected like the downstream side.

And do you know why that is? GLOBAL WARMING!!!1!

On the bright side, seeing as Osama is "obviously" still alive, it should make it real easy for Obama to track him down--like he promised during the election.

"This winter's extreme weather -- with heavy snowfall in some places and unusually low temperatures -- is in fact a sign of how climate change disrupts long-standing patterns, according to a new report by the National Wildlife Federation. "
To which I reply: Bullbleep.
Note the unstated assumptions and claims:
* that "climate change" is something new---which it ain't
* that "long-standing patterns" exist - which is a crock unless you can identify those patterns and how long they've existed.
* that the overall effect of "climate change" is WARMING, not cold. Otherwise, why point out cold temps as more evidence of global warming, the real point of the piece.
This kind of crap reminds me Marx and Freud --- they could explain everything but predict nothing.
"settled pseudo-science", IOW.

Demonstrating a surprising concern for the environment, Bin Laden voiced his dismay at recent international efforts to tackle global warming.
I believe this may be the single most idiotic sentence ever crafted in the English language.
It is a sentence for which the word "fatuous" would be a glowing compliment. The fact that it is uttered by a Brit means that every Brit on the face of the Earth should feel ashamed to share a national identity with him, and should seriously contremplate the redemptive power of suicide - either their own, or his, ably assisted. There should be an immediate ban on travel abroad by Brits, the isles should be surrounded by an electrified fence, and all within should be sterilized, lest the genes causing the abberation be loosed upon normal humankind. Chemical Ali would have known what to do.
Seriously, how can you Brits read what this cretin writes, and yet not descend upon his employer's building, wreck the presses, and burn it to the ground, after taking the sensible precaution of chaining shut all escape routes? Good greif, have mercy on you fellow humans!

Global Climate Changing Warming.
OBL has finally laid this madness to rest in his feces laced cave where his bones are propped up in front of a tape recorder.
Thanks and good night

Maybe Osama wants a piece of all that green money that Gore is making.
I wonder how fun it would be to place Bin Laden global warming quotes next to Al Gores quotes and ask people to guess which belongs to who.

#92 So if we pass cap and trade, the terrorists literally win? Good to know. Also good to know that the OBL sneer contains green smuggery in addition to the regular evilness.
Exactly, impoverish your enemy and then it's easier to defeat him.

"Winter offered as proof of warming"
No, really; that's an entire statement summarizing their article. I WISH I was funny enough to make that shit up, but it takes a true believer not to see the stupid and publish that...

Crippling the US economy through the 'Green Movement' cripples the US ability to support aggressive war, hampers the ability to protect high value economic targets, and assists in recruiting the Green/Red movement as allies.
You will note that there are few references to Al Andalus anymore.
