My New Favorite French Singer - Alizee Jacotey
Yeah I'm a few years late to the Alizée party, but what's not to like. Plus her voice is nice too. And while her dancing may not be as acrobatic as Britney or Madonna, she's far more mesmerizing to watch. And don't be fooled by her dancing, she has a squeaky clean image in France and lives quietly with her husband and daughter.

I'm afraid my boyfriend is not one of us.
He thinks Scott Brown is "just like" and "no better" than Levi Johnston--they both did pornography.
Nevermind that Cosmo is about makeup and dieting and is sold at the grocerystore, and Playgirl is for gay guys to wank to. Nevermind that Levi showed his wang and Brown didn't. Nevermind that Levi is an unemployable HS dropout and Brown was in law school at the time, then went on to big things.
Nevermind that Levi posed after he became a household name because of stuff he did with his clothes off, and that Brown posed thirty years before becoming a household name because of stuff he did with his clothes on.
What do you say to someone who just says, "no, they're exactly the same, and you're a hypocrite"?
I'm not, I've listed why, I can't make it any clearer.

Our party completely squandered their mandate for change. As a result, the base stayed home. The cons are mistaken if they interpret the Brown victory as an indicator of the country shifting to the right. If we followed through on the sweeping change promised in the previous election, progressives would dominate in 2010. Now the country sees the democrats as pandering to the banks, corporations & lobbyists......our credibility is lost amongst independents; however, I will say "swing voters" who voted for Brown are complete idiots (especially after witnessing the destructive conservative policies over the previous 8 years which nearly sank us into a 2nd great depression).
It would also be nice if President Obama was more like candidate Obama."

That's the thing with all the taxes nowadays - most are hidden from plain sight. Income taxes are automatically deduced from your paycheck and instead you get this "refund" which looks like "free money from Uncle Sam". Property taxes are automatically taken care of in an escrow account and mostly appear to be just another part of your mortgage payment. Gasoline taxes, beer taxes, cigarette taxes are never explicitly posted, they are just hidden into the cost of the item. About the only taxes people are explicitly made aware of are sales taxes, and then it's only some small % relative to all the other taxes they (unknowingly) pay.
I really believe that the best thing Republicans can do when they regain power is to pass a law mandating that all taxes be explicitly delineated on any price or bill of any good or service.

They are? I thought they're billed annually. In CA it's an annual bill, not monthly. It doesn't come with the mortgage.
Don't know specifically, but mrs fluffy raves about zappos.
Their shipping time is unparalleled, but I returned an item and it hasn't been credited yet. It's been a week since they got it. It seems kind of slow, but maybe I'm just impatient.
Posted by: wherestherum at January 19, 2010 09:06 PM (gofDd)
Why not? People will see what percentage of the price goes to government and start setting things on fire?
Posted by: HeatherRadish at January 19, 2010 09:07 PM (OkT2m)
In a lot of places you pay your property taxes at the same time as you pay your mortgage, and your mortgage company sets aside the property taxes portion in an escrow account and then pays the bill when the taxes come due.
Posted by: chemjeff at January 19, 2010 09:09 PM (Gk/wA)
Whatever happened to sitcoms that kinda addressed this? For example, I remember an episode of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when Hillary got a job and she was so excited to make her first paycheck. She ripped it open and discovered she didn't make all of it because X amount was taken out in taxes. She was angry about it, too.
Posted by: wherestherum at January 19, 2010 09:09 PM (gofDd)

That's the thing with all the taxes nowadays - most are hidden from plain sight. Income taxes are automatically deduced from your paycheck and instead you get this "refund" which looks like "free money from Uncle Sam".
My favorite anecdote on this topic. Several years ago, I was working in a less-than-happy environment, with a business owner who was notorious for being 'cheap.' One individual insisted that the owner 'screwed' him on his taxes and the witholding.
I asked him how could that be, there are accountants, and all this MUST add up, else there was problems to face such as prison. He replied 'I don't know how, but I know they are!'
When I pressed for how he knew it was true, his response was that he got 'back' $600 last year, but was only getting 'back' $450 this year. Therefore, was getting 'screwed.'
Of course this was the same guy a year or two later that gave me a hard time when I tried to listen to Rush during an election year about that 'boring Government shit!' on the radio.

Most mortgage companies insist on you paying 1/12 of your property taxes in your mortgage payment every month. Same with homeowners insurance in some areas - especially for firt time home buyers. I believe it started because the mortgage companies were sick of having houses repossessed by cities for unpaid taxes, because the mortgage companies would lose money when someone lost their home to the city for unpaid taxes.

I want to THANK all of you Morons for your KIND wishes, donations of time and funds to the Scott Brown for U.S. Senate campaign and I'd also like to point out that this historic win may also destroy the chances of amnesty for illegal aliens passing in 2010.
The Brown victory not only breaks the Democratic 60 vote hold on the U.S. Senate needed for cloture votes, but it sends a clear message that voters prefer pro-enforcement candidates instead of pro-amnesty candidates. I will be working hard to defeat the Amnesty legislation filed in Congress and to repeat the Brown-Coakley scenario in hundreds of races this November. Don't hesitate to ask for my help with donations, a letter to your critters on your behalf..whatever, to rid your districts of Marsha's.
Illegal immigration became a top issue in the Massachusetts Senate campaign, with Scott Brown issuing a statement that he opposed amnesty and taxpayer benefits for illegal immigrants and favored tougher enforcement measures. Brown had a background opposing illegal alien amnesty measures as a state Senator here in Massachusetts.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof
Freedom of=your right to worship
Freedom from=no state or national church (e.g., UK)
Jefferson's letter was just his opinion.

Now if only people would realise that the greedy ones are those in government or those who manage to put their companies on the government teat.
I had a little part time business some years back, I had to compete with others on price and quality. That's why, eventually I closed it, the money just didn't fit the expenditure of time and labor. Ever seen a government have to compete? Go see your insurance agent, then go to the DMV. Where will you get quicker, more ploite service?

Did everyone pass out from too much ball dipping and excitement?

Just reading some twitter feeds and someone used the whole Jefferson defense, which I feel is bogus for the most part.

With that, I'm out too... the lateness of the hour requires a recharge of the batteries in preparation for the workday.

Amen. It's annoying, especially since they pick and choose just one little quote to which they cling. Let's just throw out all the founding fathers because they're so inconvenient.

"Let's just throw out all the founding fathers because they're so inconvenient."
Besides, they were just a bunch of slave-owning hypocrite misogynist cracker-ass cracker Xtianists. Fuck the lot of 'em.

Well, I posted the other day that I wasn't sure Brown would win, especially if it was a close race. I also posted that I hoped and wanted to be wrong.
I've never been so glad to have been wrong in my life...
Cheers, morons!!!

Besides wigs, they also wore stockings. Maybe we should name them the "Founding Mothers'.
And they held tea parties. I mean really, what more can you say?

....making time with Hannah.
"Hi there, my name's Ace".
H ."Ummm, nice to meet you. Got a last name?"
"Of Spades. Here, let me give my card."
Pulls out a deck of Bicycles, promptly spills them on the floor. Fumbles for a minute.
"Wait, I got it".
Looks around.
"Damn, where'd she go?"

Alizee -- she's like a European Selena. (Which is good, by the way. Very good.)
If you like French singers, there's also Kareen Antonn. And the woman in Nouvelle Vague.
