— Maetenloch Happy Thursday all.
This is 101 minutes of hippies beating drums and singing hippi-fied folk songs. It's horrible. And also perfect for measuring your HEF (Hippie Endurance Factor). 3 minutes is average, 10 minutes is manly, and 45 minutes is positively Bronsonesque. And if you can make it through all 101 minutes, well that's a mandatory drug test.
So how long can you go?
Of course these people are all really hippie re-enactors. Authentic first-gen hippies mostly died out sometime during Reagan's presidency. My only experience with real hippies was back in the late 70's when my mother was a professional artist. She used to go on art retreats in the woods and bring me and my sister along (my father was usually wise enough to pick that weekend to rebuild the carburetor or something). While she and her art friend were off painting trees or some such, the various collection of kids were left under the 'guidance' of one of the non-painting hippie-types - most often Dan the HIC (Hippie In Charge) and his old lady.
And for the kids it was awesome because there were basically no rules and we were allowed to go a whompin' and a hollerin' through the forest terrorizing wildlife to our hearts' content. Of course this being the south the hippies had accents, decent woodcraft, and guns. And guitars along with (shudder) self-written folk songs.

The down sides were that they made us sing folk songs and eat natural food - which really means bad-tasting food that no one would dare try to sell. And they were always trying to make everything a Teachable Moment. When Joey hit me over the head with a log, Dan the HIC would explain that something must be bothering him and that I should go explain to him how it hurt me and talk it out.
Well I quickly discovered how worthless hippie-advice was and learned to get my own stick and lie in wait for an unsuspecting Joey. Actually my whole experience with hippie justice was a valuable life lesson: The authorities won't always protect you - so always make sure you have your own stick and be prepared to use it.
But all entertaining youthful encounters aside I still hate hippies. And their goddamn folk music and drums. Which is why my HEF is only so-so.
Leftist Activists Storm 2 NYC Banks
Members of the Alliance to Develop Power took over the lobbies of two banks today and demanded houses and union jobs while chanting “Bust up! Big banks!” and “People power!”. Police calmly escorted them out after 30 minutes and they proceeded to do the same thing to another bank. Of course the media is silent about this which just goes to show how much leftists get a pass on violence and intimidation. Just imagine Tea Partiers trying this with say a union office.

Is Global Warming Literally Based on a Flat Earth Theory?
Apparently yes since the atmospheric models assume a flat earth with an infinite atmosphere perpetually illuminated by a twilight sun. Sure all these approximations make the math more tractable, but I would view any derived results as mostly an academic exercise. And surely would never bet the world's economies on them.
Well not unless there was some major money, sex, or power coming my way.
"IÂ’m in love with my grandson and weÂ’re having a baby"
So apparently when 72 year old Pearl Carter met her 26 year old grandson, Phil Bailey, for the first time, it was lust at first sight. And after a whirlwind week of shopping, bowling and eating out, they quickly became a couple.
That night, grandmother and grandson became lovers.
'Making love to Pearl was a real eye-opener. It was love combined with all this sexual tension that had been building up,' Phil openly explains.
Later they spent $54,000 of Pearl's retirement money hiring a surrogate to carry their child. Luckily Phil's mother died of cancer in 2002 so she was spared all the humiliation and horror. Maybe the world is ready for a remake of Harold and Maude after all - this time with twice the taboo.

The Lost State of Jefferson
The 49th state of the union was to be made up of pieces of California and Oregon. And in 1941 the Jefferson citizen's militia even occupied part of US Rt. 99. But alas historical events intervened.

There was a good article that I read about Chinese banks running out of capital. Apparantly they are all way overextended at the moment. The government can't tighten up lending because it will devastate the builders who, in turn, need the property bubble to continue to pay back their loans. In Shanghai (Pudong side), occupancy of prime commercial real estate is extremely low but rents are higher than in Manhattan.
Sounds really sustainable to me.

Apparantly it was a copy-cat and there's been a rash of assaults like that at schools there. Oh, and it said the pressures of moving from an egalitarian society to a more unequal one given the country's prosperity was part of the reason. They had to get that in there...capitalism = evil murdering psychos, communism = utopian peace.

She just published her memoirs so Dateline did an interview with her. I don't think she's funny at all, but she related a story about how she tested lines that shouldn't be crossed. Apparently she had an older brother who died as a child, before she was born, in the care of her grandparents. Years later, when she's a kid, she's getting in the car with her parents and grandparents and she's told to buckle up. And she says, "Because we don't want to end up like my brother!"
I laughed so freaking hard. I'm already going to hell so I don't care.

A Krogers closed up shop here yesterday and certain, and a certain community here is going batshit crazy. Never mind the fact that particular location lost $1.5 million in revenue last year and it was an outright dump polluted with daily shoplifters and other crimes.

As it happens, I spent most of my childhood with grandparents in Portugal, so I can speak to this. They lived in the northwest suburbs of Lisbon, which would be Carcavelos and Cascais.
I was told the Cascais city council was crooked on a scale you would not believe; somewhere between Nawlins and Jamaica. They built a shitload of rickety housing units all around the hillsides. The Lisbon area, I must add, lies upon an earthquake zone; every European child learns about 1755 growing up. Everyone except the crooks around Lisbon, that is.
Oh, and you could count on seeing flyers for outright communist parties everywhere you went. Many associated with terrorists. I'm told this is how it went in Greece. It was very alien to me, being British / American / whatever.

Ever see one of those with 4 feet of whellbase cut out of it? Now that was fun to drive. Could do a 15ft wheelie across the liquor store parking lot.
This guy put a Chevy 5.7 liter into a 59 VW Bus

it's because of her eyebrows. She doesn't groom them.
I hate plucking my brows because it makes my eyes water real bad. I wasn't in the habit of shaping them, but they don't look like caterpillars over my eyes. But I have kinda gotten addicted to threading to shape them.
I didn't start plucking til about 15 years ago. I inherited my mom's hairy ape eyebrows and finally got enough dignity to care what I looked like. Plucking's not so bad after awhile. Nice thing about menopause is you must stop plucking at some point cause they're finally not growing back.

I DARE him to say this in front of an audience of his entertainment industry pals...Oprah, Sean Penn, Jay-Z, Tiger, etc.
He doesn't mean THEM. Especially not the Oprahs, Jay-Zs, Tigers, Beyonces, Tikis, etc. And Penn's best buds with Hugo Chavez, so he's cool despite his melanin deficiency.

Back in eighth grade, my dream was to put a Chevy small block 350 into a Chevy Luv mini pickup. Later, I saw an article about one. Very fast vehicle. Cool looking too. From the outside, the only notable things were nice wheels and tires, sidepipes, and curious rows of louvers cut into the hood (for extra cooling).

The part nearest the nose looks like real eyebrow hair, but the mid-arch and on towards the ear looks Sharpie'd on. Is that what some some do - shave off half of each eyebrow?

To Obamao and all his Marxist pals, $250K is some magic amount of money -- over which you are considered super-duper rich.
Well, here's a modest proposal for them:
All lib politicians, all their political supporters, all those who advocate the expansion of the welfare state, all those who advocate hiking other people's taxes and confiscation of their property, while they are free to offer up more of their own, be limited to $250K of total net worth throughout their entire lives. Every penny, above and beyond will be confiscated and handed over to Uncle Nanny Sam in the name of social justice.
All the others, who feel it's a right to keep what you've earned, and do not advocate taking from others to appease their own broken consciences, will be allowed to make as much as they damn well please, and live as comfortably, and happily as they can from the fruits of their own labors.

"First and foremost, we want to ensure that we are not exposing city employees to risk by sending them into an uncertain and potentially hostile environment in Arizona. Second, we want to send a loud and clear message to the State of Arizona that our community stands in vehement opposition to racial discrimination in any form."
Here is the email I sent to the Mayor:
"Mayor Leffingwell:
Pleased be advised that should you and the council pass the resolution boycotting business with the state of Arizona, then I will in return boycott the city of Austin. I am a resident of Leander, but my family and I spend a considerable amount of time and money in Austin proper.
We will send a very clear message that we do not support a city government which engages in preference and bias at the expense of law and order.
Please busy yourself with the task of running the city of Austin and keep political opinions, particularly those of which are not your concern, out of the business of the city of Austin."

Me too, and I'm now a Cyd Charisse fan, having spent the last 15 minutes seeing videos and reading about her.
She said her husband could tell who she had been dancing with that day on an MGM set. If she came home covered with bruises on her, it was the very physically-demanding Gene Kelly, if not it was the smooth and agile Fred Astaire.
The censors were always there when I was on the set. When I was held up, in a lift [in Deep in My Heart (1954)], they were up on ladders to see if I was properly covered.
My Lord, how we've changed. Now the "stars" of the day, Lohan or Britney or others, go without underwear and hope they'll be photographed.

Financial Reform Provision Would Break Up Nine Biggest Banks and Affect All Primary Dealers
What inquiring minds want to know is why a large bank ought to be limited to the clearly egregious sum of 10% of national deposits. If somehow 10% makes it safer than 20%, isn't 5% even more safe? Why not 1%? How about .00001% for ultimate safety? Better yet, let's limit every bank's total deposits to one million dollars. What could go wrong?

But, I just came across something that I have never seen on a hotel website, the description of the ocean view room doesn’t give a size of bed, all it says is “bedding available on request.” What does that mean? So we had a home invasion robbery in Edgewood either last night or the night before that ended in the murder of the Dad and the pistol whipping of the son. The family had advertised a ring for sale on Craigslist and two men and a woman arrived to look at the ring and then robbed the family after shooting the Dad. There was a similar robbery earlier in the week, but no one died in that one.
Anyway, despite the family very obviously having seen the criminals, since they spent a lot of time ransacking the house, initially “no description of the suspects was available.” Anyone want to guess, now that they have released a police sketch, what the description of the suspects might be?

The national media took no interest in the Deepwater Horizon story at all until a day or two ago when they heard wildlife were endangered, and now that it's a top story you still don't hear a thing about the 11 deaths. Really pisses me off.

So I read that book “Emergency” by Neil Strauss, the guy who wrote that book about pick-up artists that we were talking about a while ago.
Anyway, this guy went totally over the top in preparing for the end of the world, he got a 2nd passport, then opened a swiss bank account. He learned to fly, to sail, and to drive a motorcycle. He went to tracking school, knife school, and urban evasion tactics school. Then he became CERT qualified, an EMT, and part of the citizen search & rescue corps for the LA police dept.
But, you know what, even after all that, even after spending so much time with military people, and a lot of survivalists, etc., he still voted for Obama in 2008 because he was swept up in the idea of “hope.”
The moral? The stupid is strong with liberals. Seriously.

From what I'm reading, Christie is fighting the tide on that. NJ wants their budget fixed, but not with budget cuts. The DemSM does its part of course by dragging out the crying towels with stories of those being "starved" by the budget cuts.I wish him all the success in the world, but the odds aren't in his favor. Never played that one, but I guess I won't now.
They're trying to make their puzzle gaves more high-tech by staging mysteries in life-like environments, then adding a digital twist. A few of the ones more geared towards adults really throw me, & it's great to practice/complete the "I spy!" lists & the riddles. Like I said, it seems silly, but it really helps exercise my brain. Remember when a British PM had a spine?
Bush: "See the irony is what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it's over."
Blair: "Cause I think this is all part of the same thing. What does he think? He thinks if Lebanon turns out fine, if he gets a solution in Israel and Palestine, Iraq goes in the right way, he's done it. That's what this whole things about. It's the same with Iran."
Bush: "I feel like telling Kofi to get on the phone with Assad and make
something happen. We're not blaming Israel and we're not blaming the Lebanese
government."

Summary was that this year's British election is more like "Britain's Got Talent" than an actual election, & I thoroughly dislike all 3 men. 2/3 use their dead children as props, & all 3 are spineless. Why the Brits thought the Chancellor Brown would be better than Blair is beyond me. Blair was definitely no conservative, but he was better than Brown. Brown's proved he isn't as intelligent as everyone thought.

When I came on line just now, I saw that Comcast is conducting a poll to determine the most hated baseball teams. That is pretty sick.
I like some teams better than others, and I have a favorite. But I don't hate or dislike any team. I swear, this has become a country of bitchy gossips, whiners and complainers.
The dufus who came up with that poll needs to get a life and to get a grip. Geezez!!!!

This is a state full of people that think that government largesse is always there for the taking, and there's a bottomless pit of faceless rich fat cats to fund it into eternity if they would just "pay their fair share". Others believe that some magical green beans will come along and build a new utopia. Others say that California has too much going for it to fail
I just remembered: I thought of a possible brain function explanation (forgot the name of the kind of science in question) yesterday. I was sudying the Monty Hall problem. One explanation why this is so hard for us to accept is "working memory overload." What those scientists were saying is, essentially, the Monty Hall problem requires us to hold too many things in our heads at once, and we shuck some of it before ther end of the problem. Thus, at the end of the problem when we decide on a course of action, we're not plugging in all the facts.
I'm sure that's a crappy explaination, but that's the gist of it. So. Imagine that applied to, say, governance. Think of the congenital inability for many on the left to maintain logical consistency, what usually gets called intellectual honesty. That neverending inability enables many on the right to exploit them (the inconsistencies) in the same manner over and over. For a specific example, could it be that they would use the word "polarizing" when describing the AZ immigration law--supported by 70%-- and then not use when mentioning Obamacare because they truly don't see the inconsistency? In the moment, then--at the point of deciding--it looks like working memory overload. Maybe that's an explaination for much of the bias we see. In that situation, the general politcal stance--not all the material specifics of a given situation--become the basis of decision making, since keeping those general forms in mind is easier. ("I don't recall what I said yesterday about the identical situation, vis-a-vis the Other Group, so I'm going to phrase it completely differently today, since I like this group.")
Long story short, in the moment, maybe many are having working memory overload, and cannot keep all the relevant, material factors in mind in order to arrive at a reliable decision. So, they resort to the general forms of politics to make a decision they're comfortable with. ("It's complicated, but I know I don't like those fatcats." "It's complicated, but I know I want my share of free stuff.")
Yada yada yada. I'm not saying Democrats are retards. It's the first time I've thought about this; it's contorted, somewhat, but it's interesting, and it needs to be fleshed out. F/x, there would be many who elect to devote less working memory than they able to. Burns fewer calories. A nice, simple world is less stressful.
Maybe they're just a bunch of jagoffs.

Actually my whole experience with hippie justice was a valuable life lesson: The authorities won't always protect you - so always make sure you have your own stick and be prepared to use it.
I too have had the same experience.
However mine involved a girl on WAAAY too much acid... and no one but me and two other people to help her. Got so bad that she started masturbating etc, with a tampon clearly showing. Was truly an awful sight.

The roll is up. Among the Republicans voting yes: Marsha Blackburn, Cantor, Joe Cao, Mike Castle, Tom Cole, Jeff Flake, Jeb Hensarling, Darrell Issa, Peter King, Mark Kirk, Kevin McCarthy, Pence, and Aaron Schock. Among the Democrats voting no: Jason Altmire, Rosa DeLauro, Barney Frank(!), Gutierrez, Dennis Kucinich(!), Walt Minnick, Tom Perriello, Bobby Rush, Velazquez, and Anthony Weiner.
An amendment to add a fourth option in the second vote (if the first vote was to change status). The new option is to retain current status. That would make it very difficult to get the options the Dems want because the first choice, if it passed at all would be narrow, then the votes would be split between 4 options with the ability once again to vote for no change of current status.
I would have also liked to see the 2nd choice reworded to plain English. Speaking of which, a useless amendment to make English the official language of PR was defeated.
Now this thing will move on to the Senate where I suspect it will be very low priority. Keep in mind that it has to make it through the Senate before the current term is up.

5min 21 seconds on the Hippie vid.
the only reason I mde it that long was the occasional shot of a semi hawt hippie chick.

Here's a "what if" scenario for you: I'm not suggesting that it is the case, but what if Ace is posting here as someguy to stir up the pot?
But then, it could be just a coincidence that the only times that someguy posts here, Ace always just happens to be here to respond to his comments, too.
Oh well, two other schizophrenics here have conversations with themselves under multiple names and multiple 5-character codes, too. If Ace and the two of them didn't post here at all, maybe Vic and I would be the only ones posting here, ya think?
Anne Coulter's website on Human Events has become so dried up that one person talks to himself 24 hours a day under essentially two dozen different names, frequently forgetting to change names during his arguments with himself. Well, maybe not. Maybe there are 20 people there named Dave.

The Victorian gals....I remember when I was a kid in the mid-70s, we used to take summer trips out to Virginia City, MT where my grandparents lived. Out there, we'd all take off in my grandpa's jeep to go investigate the multitude of abandoned buildings and shacks in the mountains. I remember seeing many, many of these types of pictures tacked onto the insides of the walls of many of these places. I'm a chick, but they still were kinda cool to me.
Hippie video....made it about 3 minutes and that was while biting down on a wooden spoon. What a bunch of 'tards.

3 minutes? What fresh hell is this? After 5 seconds I jumped forward a bit to see if it changed... I probably watched 2-3 seconds in another 2 places in the video... and that was more than enough.
I guess I like myself more than you morons do. I wouldn't do that to my brain, it's never done anything that mean to me.
