Filthy Apartments AKA The Moron Habitat
I once had to go pick up some furniture from a self-described 'collector' lady. It was horrible - as bad as any of these photos. The really sad part was that she was married and her husband and son had to live in the filth as well. And if you've ever watched the show Hoarders, you'll realize how horrible it can get. It really is a mental illness for some people.
So...maybe you oughta clean up a little this weekend. At least try and get all the fast food wrappers and empty bottles into just one room. Baby steps...that's the key. Next week we'll try and uncover the toilet.

Update: Commenter tinker explains the back story on the apartment in the pictures here. The moronosphere really is a small world.
Climate Change: A Classic Malthusian Panic
AGW has been bigger than the previous panics due to modern media coverage and certain scientists jumping on the bandwagon. But like the earlier ones, it'll be solved by a people making minor adjustments as well as the economics of the situation changing. Or in this case by just doing nothing.

The Victorian era was still a mighty screwed-up time period when it comes to sex, to be sure; the amount of women who were treated for “female hysteria” with a vibrator at a doctor’s office proves that.
I don't know why people think the concept of female hysteria was invented by men.

Before I burned anything I would double and triple check that I don't or wouldn't need any of the financial papers in the future. The I would check all the town ordinances to see if you are allowed to burn anything outside. If you aren't allowed to burn outside then you can use them to build a lovely fire or to lie the charcoal on the barbecue.

The saddest thing about AGW he we had just been through the exact same exercise with overpopulation.
For those of you who weren't following politics from the 70s-early 90s, it wasn't global warming that was going to kill us all - it was people having too many kids, especially non-urbane Europeans of pallor having too many kids.
The left and its media organs kept saying we only have X number of years until modern civilization would fall. And they made pretty graphs of world population that looked a lot like Mann's hockeystick.
But then people started to notice world wide population was leveling off, and technology had kept pace in feeding the world. And the argument mostly disappeared very, very quietly.

Illegal in most cities, and all of New York.
Paper takes a long time to burn in bulk, too. Tried to set a bunch of stuff out of my locker on fire my sophomore year (...at a friend's farm, we played with fire a lot when his dad had brush to burn), and more than two or three pages at a time just kind of smoldered.

1. A true moron saves the Valu-Rite bottles so that he doesn't have to leave bed, or what passes for a bed, to take a piss after a long night.
2. Porn is too important to leave strewn about. I'm sure it's kept in a bookshelf of the finest mahogany somewhere just out of frame.

Yeah, basically at this point the Westboro Baptist Church is just a legal scam by the Phelps family to provoke people into attacking them and then sue. That's their sole purpose for going to all the funerals.
Eventually they'll provoke somebody into shotgunning them. And if I were on the jury, I wouldn't convict on anything greater than creating a public disturbance.

You might actually be able to justify reimbursing the price of the shotgun shells as well—after all, municipalities are on the hook for the increased security necessary to "protect" those scumbags from decent people everywhere, and their departure would probably save cash-strapped police forces some dough.

I generally don't stone anyone I don't hate, so they might have a point there.
As far as their treatment of the men in uniform goes, I agree they're disgusting. I actually think they're disgusting for the God Hates Fags thing too, but not without reason from their viewpoint according to their references.
But yeah, I don't really give any validity to their references.

This was a helluva day for conservatism. Heh, all it took for you was Dana, but since I don't play for that team, I had to look for cerebral titillation. First, Beck had a show about the Founders that would blow your mind. The libs started co-opting and corrupting everything that used to be part of every school kid's education until the progressives got hold of it.
Tonight I happened upon the Southern Republican Leadership Conf on C-SPAN and saw J.C. Watts bring down the house. (Somebody put me some knowledge. How did a guy with that kind of charisma and speaking ability ever lose?)
Then, Newt, yes, he of the schizo conservatism school, kicked arse in an hour-long speech -- no notes -- and an off-the-cuff Q&A. Look for a lot of bumper stickers and window decals that say "2+2=4." Long story.

I sure wish the US would do more to keep the underclass in line. Those vermin breed like rats, and we taxpayers are picking up the tab for a fresh crop of bastards every year. Getting the gutter spawn to keep their legs together for more than 5 minutes at a time would prove immensely valuable to the US. Alas, the Victorian era is gone, never to return. But, what I did say was that islam builds and shapes assholes. That was the point of it, of course, being a political structure built to administer a growing land empire - formalizing the desert arab culture in that structure, while plagiarizing the Old and New Testaments, perverting the stories and morals, and then calling the Jews and the Christians liars for having written fake versions earlier. Again Christoph, you don't know shit.
There are no perfect Christians. However, real ones can recognize another pretty easily. Jesus said that he had not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it meaning that the 10 commandments still held but he said that there was a golden rule: Love one another as I love you.
Actual christians do not go out to purposely hurt other people. That doesn't mean they have to condone others anti-gospel actions either--which the left thinks--- "accepting" deviant behavior is not love but rather harm. God loves all of his creatures but not their actions if they are against him.
I don't know what happened to you but whatever bad thing it was wasn't caused by Christ--it was caused by a person who was imperfect.

Okay, but Victorian Britain needed to 'socialize' a lot of rural people coming into the growing cities at a rapid pace, and the urban upper-middle class thought that farm people were screwing constantly
So they were ultry-double-plus strict on sex, and made fools of themselves putting clothes on piano legs, etc

They're also registered Democrats. They exist for two reasons: to be the examples of "hate-filled Christians" needed by other Democrats, and to enrich themselves by inciting riots.
They are a prime example of what happens when you no longer allow dueling or accept the concept of "he needed killing".

I wasn't addressing the Christian part of your comment. I should have left it out of the pasting.
But, as to your argument about people claiming to be some religion who aren't, there are many examples. In Judaism we have the Black Hebrews, who are not Jewish, but claim to be. For Christians, I would say that The Precedent's own chrurch stands as what I call "Crypto-Christian", because it is really just a Marxist church with the veneer of Christianity added to affect some legitimacy - sort of the same thing Mohammed did when he laughably inserted himself into the Biblical line, in order to claim instant legitimacy.
And I agree with you about Islam being more of a negative force than any other major religion. We never disagreed with that... and while I don't take quite as clearcut a position as every single thing you said on the prior thread... I agree with everything you wrote in your last comment.
Posted by: Christoph at April 08, 2010 10:49 PM (0fq7b)

That's a good sign. You still need to move to the fact that islam is not a religion, but a political ideology with an attendant mythology, and you'll be there.

For the love of Pete - I know mainly what I'd consider "regular, middle class" folks, you'd never think twice about them if you saw them on the street, yet three married couples I know have done swinger stuff. And that's just the stuff I know about. I can't imagine what levels of depravity are to be found among the guttersnipes. We've gone too far. Time to bring back some restraint. What about soldiers, or Peter and his sword, or someone who's a Christian but is pissed off?
You're making a claim that not even Christian theology makes and it undermines you.
If I were a believing Christian, I would reply to you that God doesn't require us to be perfect, but he requires us to have faith in Him and his Son (and to never deny the Holy Spirit, ever), and to seek repentance for our sins, and to resolve to do our best not to repeat them.
First of all, I didn't mean "hurt" as in fight or kill in self defense or to protect the innocent. I meant, and I thought it was obvious, to hurt as in to damage for it's own sake or without care, like these asswipes from Westboro are doing.
Secondly, God gives us faith. It is a supernatural gift. We don't "have" it. We receive faith from God when we agree with our minds and our wills to believe in his revelation.
"Denying the Holy Spirit" means that one should not despair of God's love. It doesn't mean "I deny you Holy Spirit". The reason God said that denying the Holy Spirit was the only unforgivable sin was that the person who despairs of God never askes for God's mercy and therefore cannot be forgiven.
I have no desire to get into this stuff with an ignorant obnoxious Canadian. You are insufferable.
I'm not expending the energy on you. So sod off.

Newt says American Solutions is going to start mass producing them. Not sure how popular he is or how much clout that organization has since he sat on the couch with Pelousy. But that speech was incredible. I'd highly recommend tracking it down on C-SPAN. It was one heck of a history lesson.
In the Q&A someone asked what conservatives could do about "indoctrination education." He said it's got to be one of the issues we hit head on. He stressed that the GOP has to stop being so polite (in so many words) and start engaging in the battles that are going to be necessary to reverse everything in the next few years.

I'm not sure how I got on their mailing list, but I keep getting "Great Money $aving Offers" from some "secular humanist" (read: militant atheist) magazine.
Apparently, they are fighting the good fight against the evangelical religionists seeking to control every aspect of our lives. They lump Christians of all stripes in with jihadis, while making no mention of the biggest threat to individual liberty at the moment—the secular humanist movement itself.
I want to dissect their literature for our campus newspaper (or maybe just my blog) when I get the time. I'm stunned by how they can conveniently ignore the Fairness Doctrine, Cap and Trade, and other liberty-raping policies...
I don't mind atheists on principle. Hell, I have a lot in common with even the most robotic Randroids out there. But I can't think of a situation where the log-in-thine-own-eye parable is more fitting than with these people.

Actually Japan has one of the world's strongest navies. If they were motivated they would have a real shot at stopping a Chinese invasion cold.
Of course with their army they'd have to be in position to begin with, and they'd have to go Manhatten real fast. China is unlikely to feel constrained in using its nukes if the US bows out of the conflict...

Well no that's certainly true. There's some hardwiring that's gone haywire there.
But...
Allow me to paint with a broad brush as the 'rons love to do that here about ladies: it's not just about being attentive. Not being distracted (ie, turning to oggle every piece of ass that walks by -or- fixating on unreasonable standards in the female form) would be miraculous.

Guess the dems have picked Sarah Palin as their candidate of choice. So in addition to campaigning against GWB and romney, guess he will be campaigning against Palin too.
If only the republicans could come up with a surprise candidate, similar to what the dims did with him, touting hillary hillary hillary and then sending him in to clinch the win. A come out of the blue sure winner republican candidate would be a good idea.

I once had to go pick up some furniture from a self-described 'collector' lady.
Once I helped a friend move the furniture for two young hottie room mates, well not actually room mates they lived with two other guys but the story was they had broken up, as I found out later, so these two other guys were out of town on a job and my buddy and I helped these gals move mundo furniture in the evening after dinner as it were... long story short we figured out later that we had robbed the place for these two vixens.
Thinking with the little head and trying to impress with muscle while keeping the brain in neutral...hey I was trying to help my buddy and the girls were hotter than a corn roast in a crematorium

Dino was a Reagan Republican, campaigned big time for him in 80 and 84. When Frank and Sammy jumped on the JFK bandwagon in 1960, Dino refused to join them, and told both that he didn't trust the Kennedys and that they'd burn both Frank and Sammy. Dino was proven right

I need to hang out with some conservative men. I just had a conversation with my ex-husband that terrified me. The whole time we were married he was conservative, always voted Republican. I’m not sure when the pod people got ahold of him but he voted for Obama and tonight he was talking about his latest work project and it was about “green” energy and saving the environment and how we’re running out of energy sources and how it’s OK if the government tracks your every move because they wouldn’t actually use that information in any bad way.
Please baby Jesus, deliver me a nice conservative man. Amen.

That film also has my favorite Lee Marvin line.
"You bastard!"
"In my case, an accident of birth. But you? You're a self-made man."
Yeah, that's good one. How 'bout this:
Lee Marvin: "So what else is on your mind besides hundred-proof women, ninety-proof whiskey, and forty-carat gold?”
Burt Lancaster: “Friend--you just wrote my epitaph.”
One of the greatest tough-guy movies of all time. Jeez: Lee Marvin, Woody Strode, Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, Jack Palance.
Lee Marvin & Steve McQueen: the coolest actor evah.
The girl who play "Si Si Conchita ("cuz she never says 'no'" according to Burt Lancaster) was also hawt.

Are you asking me? So many types, though the Brits are trying to go to a standard accent. The RP / Queen's English accent is almost dead, as PC has forced it out of both the schools & the public-at-large. Many young people like to speak "Mockney", which is just a more glorified, posh cockney. See Billie Piper or Catherine Tate.
Personally, I like the authentic accents, the ones that come naturally to the speaker & are their regional dialect. Many older British actors will speak RP, but they have traces of their old accents.

Ever see the Patrick Swayze classic film Road House? There's a character in it named Tinker who is looked upon with favor because "he's not a bleeder."
Nothing personal. But I seriously do need to know if you're a bleeder. I hate bleeders.

And now I like it even more because I hate this push to "go green" by companies who're really just trying to cut down on an expense, not out of love for the environment. nostalgia always paints a rosier picture than reality
in truth Bush is a big-government conservative - it is not too difficult to imagine him quasi-nationalizing the car companies just like Obama did
of course he would not have gone for the ObamaCare Abomination, but what would he have compromised with Pelosi on? remember amnesty? if Bush did somehow have a third term, would we be sitting here right now complaining that he didn't listen to the will of the people in granting citizenship to illegals?
I don't miss him all that much, to be honest - it's not a nonzero amount, but it's close to zero
Posted by: chemjeff at April 08, 2010 10:38 PM (Gk/wA)
No doubt W had the final say on all things, but I suspect Big Dick was the prime mover in many things concerning national defense.

Posted by: Barry Obama at April 08, 2010 10:41 PM (gLSaO)
well, can't say I have a favorite - I see so few movies
and, this is going to sound harsh but it's true in my case, the actresses that play roles that require "hotness" all seem to blend together in my mind - they become this amalgamation of "hot". so I tend not even to recognize actresses individually, only that "hey, here's the hot actress character in this movie, wow, she's hot".

WTR well I guess I would agree with that, but it's just a lot more difficult for me to separate his positive personal qualities from his bad policy positions. Yes he's a charming fellow and I'd love to have a beer with him but in many ways he really did set the stage for the financial mess we are in now. NO I don't believe it's Bush's fault we have 10% unemployment, but I do believe that things wouldn't be as bad as they are now if, say, Bush had managed to use a veto pen to veto some of the ridiculous spending that was occurring under his watch.

I agree with that. I also blame Paulson and his ilk for the current financial mess.
But like I said, it's Bush's character that I miss. He acted like a leader and didn't whine like a bitch through all of the criticism he received, which was 100x more vitriolic than what teh Won has ever gotten. He was actually acted like a grown up.
Posted by: wherestherum at April 08, 2010 11:10 PM (gofDd)
I'd say I'm nostalgic for all of those, though I could have done without some policies. The more I read about Obama, the more I see how dangerous he is. I was also thinking last night, & I came to the realization that everything seemed so much easier when GWB was president, & I didn't go to bed worried. He didn't always do what I wanted him to do, but I wasn't ashamed of him or worried by what he did.
Looking back on it, I'm not sure he did what he wanted to do, either. I think tort reform & other more conservative policies worked here in TX, but not-so-much in DC. Ted Kennedy also wasn't Bob Bullock, unfortunately. Too bad Bush 43 will never write a book about how he truly feels about things. I know he has strong feelings, & it would be nice to see them unmuted, as they once were. :sigh:

That's a good point. After the dust settled and cleared after 9/11 and the Bush Admin took action, I felt safer. I didn't realize how much safer I felt until teh Won's multiple foreign policy fails. The Christmas day bomber was the last straw. I don't spend my time fretting about it because I will drive myself insane if I do, but I don't feel as safe as I did with Bush & Co watching over the country.

As to the "hoarders" apartment, you know a good cleaning crew is one option but when things get this bad personally I start thinking "insurance fire" might be the way to go.
Ursula Vrs. Audrey - Audrey, any day of the week and twice (or better yet maybe 3 times on Sunday). Audrey always had that classy, demure thing going for her that's just impossible to beat. That and just one look at Ursula and you know this is not just a woman who's going to give you scratch marks, no she's going to dig those 3 inch nails into back hard enough to tear your back to shreds. It's the sort of thing that will be bad enough that a trip to the ER might be in order. I'm getting a little old for that sort of thing, so put me solidly in the Audrey column there.
On the same topic, the Julia Roberts thing I've never gotten at all. Every time I see her face I wonder why somebody hasn't entered her in the Kentucky Derby, especially when she laughs. The only movie I would have given her a lead role in would have been Seabiscuit. Probably would have been her best movie ever, seeing as how she wouldn't have had any lines at all.
As to Netanyahu giving the White House the finger, what can I say other than Yishar Koach! (Translation: basically way to go or good for you). No point in showing up for this thing, it's just going to be another bash Israel fest and quite frankly you've got much better things to do with your time. I wish to extend my most heartfelt apologies to both yourself and the people of Israel that our current President is such a worthless, mealy mouth appeasing douchebag.
