Overnight Open Thread: WTF Edition [CDR M]
— Open Blogger

Wazzup Moron Nation! CDR M back on the ONT BattleWatch! Hope you all are ready for the most magnificent eating day of the year and for those of you traveling, hope the TSA didn't manage to mishandle your stuff, so to speak! Without further ado, I present to you, the ONT:

The Screw You Nebula
Remember this picture?

Well, it looks like the big Guy up in the sky has responded. Obama, you ain't got nuthin' on this:

Cooking Themes

These are homes that are owned by some of the top chefs and chefettes in the world. Man, they have some huge homes and are probably all kitchen! Also included with this list are some of their favorite holiday recipes. Anyone game to try them out? Now don't some of you morons get the bright idea of driving up to these homes and start celebrity stalkin' or somethin'!
Top Chef Homes and Holiday Recipes

Of course, that last post leads to this. Celebrity kitchens. Do they even know how to cook? Do they even eat enough to justify a kitchen? One thing I can't quite figure out yet is why Lady GaGa even has a kitchen? Is it her sewing room for her meat dresses?
Top Celebrity Kitchens

Now, what's a holiday celebration without some Moose Milk. No, fellow morons, not real moose milk, but the drink called Moose Milk. I developed a taste for this after hanging out on detachment with some Canadian military types. There are different recipes but this one is pretty good. Warning: It is very potent and will lead to good times! What concoctions are the rest of you mixing up for the holidays?

Cooking Safety Video
Good Morning America did a little show on holiday cooking safety this morning and while there is some good information in it, she almost goes up in flames during the segment around the 1 min 15 sec mark as she puts out a grease fire with the lid. I think her technique would've worked out better if she had also moved the pan off of the heat source instead of just leaving it there. So close to having a new Darwin Award candidate.

Animal Themes
Yes, I know it's not Caturday but I could not resist seeing a cat show the effects of the moron lifestyle. Just tragic.

Could this be a video game for the moronettes? I don't know. I think the game would be better if the big cats would at least try to eat you. Or you can shoot 'em. Just sayin'.

Artwork
CAC inspired me to at least post one thing on "high class" artwork. Here goes. H.R. Giger is famous, right?

Military Pron

Name this gun. I have no friggin' idea!

Random Shiite
Heh. The world according to San Francisco.

This is pretty cool.

If you could choose which television show family you could spend Thanksgiving with, who would it be? TV Squad asked just that question and posted their list with reasons why or why not. I think I would lean towards The Bluth family of Arrested Development. No shortage of entertainment in that family but I think in the end, I'd have to go with the Bundy's.

Imagery, Intelligence Analysis Great site to peruse now and then for imagery analysis as it pertains to military issues. If you have Google Earth on your computer, you can load up the dot kml file for SAM's and it will depict the type, location and range rings for that type weapon.

Of course, no turkey day can pass without this classic montage of the turkey drop from WKRP in Cincinnati.

I will now close this ONT with this little music ditty.

Well folks, that's all I got tonight. Take it easy.

Dr. Scholl, all you have to do is put it in the sink rinse it off, pat it down, go TSA on it by removing the neck and or bag of gibblets from inside, then pat it down a little more (think of second TSA screening stage) then rub salt on it (third stage TSA) and then put a little vegetable oil on it.  Put it in a roasting pan with tin foil and cook 325.  And check on it in a couple of hours and baste it (final TSA stage).

It's all in the stages.

65 It's more or less official, that with only race uncalled (NY-1), the GOP took 63 cookies from the Dems. The House will have a final tally of 242 Republicans and 193 bitches. NY gave us the largest gain of cookies (6), making it temporarily slightly more tolerable than California. OH and PA gave us 5 bitches' seat a piece. FL punches the vag of 4 Dems to give us their seats. Goatfucker-in-chief's homestate of Illinois loans us 4 goats. Arizona, Texas, Virginia, and TN provided 3 boners a piece. My cursory count shows that House GOP gains occured in 10 more states than in 1994. Pretty broad. But in 1994, more than 10 came from the Pacific Time Zone. We only got 2 this time.

I have to post here. I'm busy gettin banned from a Massachusetts site.

I defend Brown, Romney and Palin. I just hate fucking liars and scumbags. It doesnt matter who the candidate is.  Debate, straight up, with facts.

On national blogs people assume a lot about us "RINOS" but if they ever saw us in the trenches, they would know better. But most of them are spoiled brats who rarely get out of the house (church not included).'

I'm destroying anti-Palin facions left and right. Tomorrow I'll be called a RINO myself, but I still fight for what is right.

80 man I so want to get a house
I hate being a renter, I hate my crazy landlady

oh, Episode XVI of Why My Landlady Is Crazy:

so I call my landlady Monday morning, telling her there's a leak in the ceiling of my bathroom, and could she send someone to fix it - nobody answers so I leave a message

all day Monday - no return call
all day Tuesday - no return call
so I come back Tuesday evening, and whaddya know, the ceiling is magically fixed.

so my landlady or the handyman or someone went into my apartment, without telling me or even leaving me a message, and fixed the leak in my ceiling

god, how many times have they been in my place without telling me, "fixing" this or that?

chemjeff, you need to look into escrow laws in your state.

or at least threaten that if she doesn't comply with (a) returning your phone calls in a timely manner and (b) entering the presmises w/your proper consent, you'll place your next month's rent in escrow with the court. [most state's say you have to give the landlord 30 days to cure any problems before you go that route though]. usually the threat is the kick in the pants and you won't have to go through w/it.

Ralph's has THE WORST self checkout things. If you don't put the food in the bag immediately, it freaks out and halts everything until a manager comes and unlocks it. Fresh & Easy has the most user friendly ones as far as I've used.

Unrelated, I'm watching the Expendables. It's very very good so far.

Yeah, our idiots are extra special.  They don't even know the self serve lines are self serve, so they skip them altogether.

And, I have to rephrase the not going to a checker thing.  I of course go to a checker at TJ's.  They're just not union and usually have every line open even when it's not busy.

101 California's GOP managed to lose seats from their already tiny tiny leg minority. Posted by: Chris in Va at November 24, 2010 09:47 PM (uCjoj) == To be fair, the resulting number of seats in the Assembly, 28, is in line with the GOP's historical average there. Despite three Dem waves, they managed to whittle down the GOP caucus by two. To streeeetch this silver lining, the Dem failed to pick-up one of the gimme Senate seats the GOP held, the one with a whopping 20pt. D registration advantage. I'm both optimistic and just fucking fearful of the new redistricting regime. The GOP has such a crappy turnout machine. The SoCal burbs and the Central Valley can bury Dems here, but contrary to elsewhere, Democrats in the Bay Area vote heavily while the GOP counties suck ass in turnout. Bay Area turnout numbers exceed that of the rest of the state by a country mile. There's a sleeping giant here.

There are good people here. My brother owns a bar here. My other brother own a fishing business here. My people, blood, sweat and tears dot this soil.

But some insist that we have no representation, no voice because Scott Brown and Mitt Romney werent pure enough. Have what they call "real" conservatives or your state can burn in hell.

There will be no Chris Coons in Mass. Not over my dead body. We live here. We pay taxes here. We pay fines here. We bleed here.

I'm all done with douchebags from Virginia, Georgia and Texas telling us to nominate Jim DeMint clone or our states can burn in hell.

I saw a drawing of a gun that looked very much like the one shown above, in a book called "Arms Through the Ages". Called "Puckle's Gun", or "the Puckle Gun", it's an 18th century British invention. A google search will pull up any number of pictures and articles.

The individual cylinders, each holding a charge, were mounted on a ring; the ring rotated, and each cylinder in turn clamped onto the breech of the gun and fired. Think of it as an extremely clumsy 18th century revolver.

Chemjeff,

Hypocisy for one. Jim DeMint gave an overwhelming endorsement of Romney in 2008. Yea, people forget that.

Two, I truly believe that which governs closest to the people governs best. Unlike national Tea Party groups (and DeMint) who are frauds and just decided to supplant themsleves as  kingmakers over another group of kingmakers.

Third, I am the real conervative. Being such, I know the real fight is in the cultural institutions, not chairmanships. The DeMint faction lives in the past. They think its 1976 and the whole country is suppressing them.. I know we are a minority now. Times have changed. They are fighting on the wrong front.

172 WTF edition is right. I sill can not believe that some good people (Rush and Beck) have gone all "missiler" of all things. If the chicoms would what to send a message to there best customer of everything they would not risk lives if a missile went off course and headed for shore as they say it was only 35 miles off the coast and at missile speeds that would be there in seconds. If it was a two stage what happened to the first stage and how would it look if it fell on to LA with the made in China label. When it would fall in the ocean they would not leave it on the bottom they would recover it. Even in the hight of the cold war the Soviets would not even have thought of doing anything like this they would have had a open missile launch in their own country for all the would to see and tell everyone what they did.

The fact that two airplanes where and are in the area every day and at the right time and given the right conditions could produce a contrail coming over the horizon that could look like a missile launch. That alone should have ended all talk that this thing was nothing but a odd optical illusion of a airplane contrail. The left may be right if 9-11 pt 2 ever happens the Obama did it truthers would be even worse than the Bush did it truthers which is sad. Don't confuse incompetence with conspiracy.

Gerrymandering with malice would be a chore since the units are so small they'd end up doing what NH, and any other legislature with several hundred members do which is redistrict based largely on natural and city boundaries. Also, they can't possibly bitch and moan about VRA since this system would probably bring several hundred non-white-males in the legislature pretty easily.

185 ncj, here's the thing.  Deep-fried turkey is amazingly moist and tasty.  However (and it's a very big however), there is NO stuffing.  Plus, you are using 50 bucks worth of oil to fry a 10-dollar turkey.  But, yeah, the turkey itself comes out awesome.

I'd imagine that if you have prep time, throw together a batch of dough and fry it while the turkey is resting.  Savory doughnuts instead of your standard baked rolls.  Plus, IIRC, the oil is reusable.

240 The problem is the Republicans who are left aren't worth a shit. (No offense to those who are left & post here).

Neither Whitman or Fiorina hit their target turnout among Republican voters. Indeed they fell well short. Would they have won if they had just met those quotas? Probably not. But if you can't even do that in a year like 2010 there's no hope left for the state.

Whitman poured $175 million into the state and as bad as many perceive her "public" campaign to be, she did more to build the party infrastructure there than they've had in years. And it didn't accomplish a damn thing.

Likewise the millions the RSLC & NRSC poured into Cooley & Fiorina's races - both to no effect.

Posted by: Chris in Va at November 24, 2010 09:51 PM (uCjoj)

If Whitman poured that much into her campaign, half must have been in whiskey toddies. Because it sure didn't show up anywhere else. And the other problem running as a "electable" nice guy republican is that a large fraction of the Rs here are bitter clinger types.  Because all the RINO types already left to be Democrats ten years ago. All thats left are the corrupt party types like those in Delaware, and one or two unelectable dumb conservatives. The smart conservative run for federal posts and don't come back.

To be fair, the resulting number of seats in the Assembly, 28, is in line with the GOP's historical average there. Despite three Dem waves, they managed to whittle down the GOP caucus by two.

The lifetime party members on both sides made every seat a safe seat for one side or the other long ago. Perhaps the citizen redistricting board will change that going forward. The prop to give it more power passed, the prop to neuter it failed.

Isn't the True Story of Tombstone and the OK Corral really different from what movies and stories portray.  The shootout lasting under a minute or so and it being questionable about how many many of the guys on the other side were actually armed.  Earp and Holliday benefitting mostly from the typical "Old West" dime store novels and Earp moving to Hollywood and being a stunt coordinator for movies.

I know liberal people in this state, and he pretty much writes down to the T what their arguments are. He cherry-picked a couple of economic measures and declares California is A-fucking-OK. He doesn't of course mention that the state flushed with "venture capital" (which probably plays a minuscule sum in business startup in the country. I'm pretty sure entrepreneur's main source of dough is loans from a bank or family.) have cities and counties with the highest unemployment rates in the country. Unemployment levels not seen outside a colonias and reservations, except these CA cities and counties are not reservations and colonias. OK, but will you concede that one of the functions of great art is to get you to look at, and appreciate, things you might not have looked at otherwise?

Look, maybe you'd hate it. But there are few movies that have been so widely loved, so if you're going to appreciate anything that goes against the usual grain, the odds are high that that would be it. Why not check it out?

I don't care much for snarky hipster movies, but I loved High Fidelity.

I don't care much for Quentin Tarantino, but I loved Pulp Fiction.

I don't care much for horror, but I thought Halloween was awesome.

Why not at least taste from the very best of genres you might not otherwise care for? I've found it rewarding.

I will admit that I've never seen "The Princess Bride," for analogous reasons to yours. Have I messed up? Should I check it out?

And I'll admit to also not having seen Tombstone but more from it being out when I was too young for it, and never actively seeking it out.  Again like with mobster movies, Westerns aren't my preferred viewing.

376 Canola oil is fine for everyday cooking, like braising meat. If you want to deep fry you really need to use peanut oil because of the high smoke point. I gave up on deep frying years ago because it's so messy.

A flash from the past:

PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE DIP

8 oz. cream cheese, room temperature
1 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 cup (packed) light brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons orange juice
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. cloves
-----
Recommended to be used as a dip for ginger snaps or just plain fingers.

I've got some soft Archway (the best!) soft iced molasses cookies instead.

I suggest cutting the amount of cloves in half -- one teaspoon is plenty, two are overpowering. You can also use dark brown sugar. It tastes fine and there's no reason to buy a whole bag of light brown sugar just for this recipe. Also, use the whipped cream cheese because it makes mixing super easy. And use the Philthydelphia  brand just because it's the best.

OK, but will you concede that one of the functions of great art is to get you to look at, and appreciate, things you might not have looked at otherwise?

Well sure, but I'm not planning a trip to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa either.

Look, maybe you'd hate it. But there are few movies that have been so widely loved, so if you're going to appreciate anything that goes against the usual grain, the odds are high that that would be it. Why not check it out?

Because I'm usually looking to be entertained and not necessarily broaden my horizons.  I have no issue conceding that it is possibly one of the best pieces of cinema ever filmed, but apparently so is Citizen Kane and I'm not planning to watch that either.  Maybe I'll watch it eventually but I don't see myself actively seeking it.

Of those movies listed the only one I've seen was High Fidelity and I think I hated every single character in it except for Jack Black's.

I'd rather watch The Princess Bride than a slasher flick any day.  Infact I walked out on Fatal Attraction, down the hall and into another theater to watch it.  My wife came out telling me what a great flick it was and if I watched it I would never screw around.  I told her I wasn't planning to anyway and I enjoyed the Princess Bride better.

The weirdness of movies often comes too close to the reality of life for me to consider slasher flicks for entertainment.  I have a wife and two daughters.  Slasher flicks actually creep me out.  I haven't watched many slasher flicks but I was setting in a theater listening to a couple teens laugh when some attrocious thing happened on screen during one slasher flick.  A real WTF moment for me.

408 521 Because I'm usually looking to be entertained and not necessarily broaden my horizons.

Actually, me too. But I've lived long enough  that I've often exhausted what I know will entertain me and have needed to seek more widely. In no way have I been on a quest to broaden my horizons for the pure sake of it. That sounds too much like uplift, as Mencken would phrase it. It's just that the sources I know don't produce as often as I consume, so I have to scrounge in between, and there are rewards to be had that way.

547 Here's the poop on our Thanksgiving celebration tomorrow.  My Daughter and Son-in-law are having it.  They invited both sides of the family.  A crazy aunt on the other side wants my daughter to uninvite our side so it would be more intimate.  My daughter is having 26 people over.  Should be fun.  I'll have to ask the crazy aunt if she wants a side of fuck you with her sweet potatoes.

Posted by: Ohio Dan at November 24, 2010 09:00 PM (Skc3Q)

548 Nope - no more bad videos.  Though, I do still have "Happiest Baby on the Block" to watch.  That might actually be the most disturbing one.  I think they should just call it The Baby Whisperer.

I'm sure there are those who have gotten trashed 5 minutes or less into Thanksgiving.

Actually, I heard from somebody that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is a big drinking day because people are already at their destination and can get shit-faced without having to go anywhere the next day.

668 There's an odd looking Mikado locomotive (wheel arrangement 2-8-2) in that movie, the closest N scale model I've seen of it is the train-set quality Bachmann.

Posted by: GGE of The Moron Horde at November 24, 2010 10:26 PM (2nb9o)

669 You can actually get a train set Bachmann loco to run decently if you start with one that runs halfway decently to begin with.  Unfortunately the Spectrum 2-8-0 shares absolutely no common pieces with the train set 2-8-0.

Perhaps.  It is interesting to hear my lab mate and the lab tech converse with each other in Chinese.  I think they use primarily Mandarin since they from different provinces.  As with any country, each province has their own local dialect.  Sometimes different provinces can understand each other and sometimes not.  When this language gap is encountered, Mandarin can be used as bridge, although English can be used now too since all Chinese school kids are taught English alongside their native language.

There was an Indian couple in my department who each came from different provinces that spoke vastly different language dialects, so they used English to talk to each other.  This must have made huge family gatherings a bit interesting though.

698 Remember how the fun of the original SG1 and Atlantis was in the character interaction and how they manage to save the day.  SGU has decided that the fun is in having all the characters hating eachother and putting them through soul crushing experiences.

With SG1 and Atlantis I couldn't wait for each new episode, the shows were just such a good time to watch.  They were also funny; they had great senses of humor, something almost wholly absent in SGU.

I'm sick of everyone on this show being at odds all the time over anything and everything the writers can think of, sick of the melodrama, and above all sick of the depression that permeates everything about the show.  And I'm sick of there being no point to any of it.  I have no idea what the hell this week's episode was trying to say to us other than to try to make a point about the existence of God, and even to that extent the episode is pointless and cruel -- unless you want to believe in a God who would resurrect your body after death with its soul missing but its sentience intact, then kill it all over again in the same horrible way it died the first time.

There is no point to anything in this show.  It's just week after week after week of hateful, endless nihilism.

His assholish "sometimes you forget you're in someone else's body" swipe was truly idiotic writing, considering that back on Earth she's a quadriplegic and...

(SPOILER for you poor bastards out there who are still watching this)
...
...
...
...it was the very last thing she heard before she was murdered.  This removed any sympathy I might have felt for Eli over the death of his girlfriend, and the writers, because they're idiots, haven't seen fit to give him any guilt over this.

Perry was actually one of the few people to show up on this series I liked, and they disposed of her as cruelly and dismissively as they could.  I don't know what is wrong with the sociopaths who run this show.

724 876 meh, everyone is running their BF deals already and I don't see a fucking thing to buy (other than Target's $10 LotR blu-ray set)

It shouldn't be called "Black Friday" this year.  More like "Black October, November, and December", given that there were "BF" deals back in October, which will extend throughout the end of the year as retailers are that desperate for business.

And Lord only knows what the ultimate result will be from QE2 and other nations trying to reduce dollar usage in their trades.

/In the end, there will be only chaos.

Untrue.  They type 38 was found to be the strongest bolt action rifle of any used by either side during either WW1 or 2.  Type 99's made before 1943 were found to be almost equally robust.  The poor rep was derived by idiots trying to fire live ammo from training rifles, also some of the type 99's were made from inferior cast parts during the last (the so called "last ditch" firearms).

Posted by: GGE of The Moron Horde at November 24, 2010 11:17 PM (2nb9o)

726 In fact, some of the Bubbas that acquired the Type 38's tried to fire 30-06 ammo through them and it just elongated the bullet.  Testing on the Jap rifles were done by the War Dept and the NRA.  The barrels were forcibly ejected from the actions in some cases, but the action remained intact and servicable.

730 I mentioned before that I had to drive the Subi to Florida instead of the Mustang.  I have been having issues with the Subi on and off, a "check engine" light with a code for the Idle Air Control Valve.  I looked up the IACV.  Over 500 dollars!
Anyway I got one on Ebay and by the time it got here I had cleaned my old one and cleared the light.  Tonight it popped back up, so I changed out the IACVs.  We will see if that fixes the issue.

733 The only issue I have had with the Mustang so far was a driver's side airbag module.  Others have had engine tics and clutch issues (mine is an auto) but the engine tics are not as common as feared and the clutch issues seem to have been resolved in later builds and by warranty repairs.  That 412HP motor is a real beast!

Only fault is that it's cliche though I agree with not showing him having any sympathy other than having him throw a hissy fit, they should have prolonged the death of his girlfriend. In a situation like that, you won't have many chances to hook up with a girl so that shit has to hurt like a son of a bitch and yet she seems to be a forgotten character a week later

Improper ordinance maybe for the non-training rifles, but the training rifles were meant to fire paper or wood "bullets".  If real ammo was run through them, they tended to catastrophically shred the barrels.

740 Speaking of ammo, the 6.5mm Japanese rounds are expensive as hell!  $40 for a box of 20, although I have found it cheaper elsewhere.  I'm hoping the gunsmith clears this carbine to be a shooter, but even so it won't be fired much with $2 per round ammo.

Also they probably had nice big shirts on saying ABC News, and I bet the TSA has orders to be on best behavior when "legitimate" news is around.  They won't want amateurs filming because then people will have real evidence of them being disgusting perverts.

they will have single copies but it works out to be quite cheaper to buy the packs (like RUSE is $8 cheaper in the bundle). But if your looking for Empire, grab the Empire & Napoleon GOTY package. It has both games and all the DLC for them. GoGamer has it for $19.90 at the moment

872 Good Morning Morons

I've been up for a while but have been noodling with WMP for hours trying to figure out how to get the damn thing to display larger images in the "now playing" visualization. It defaults to the shitty 200 x 200 image every time. Got started on it making a playlist for Christmas music.

Every time that is except on a few albums that I downloaded from Amazon (some do some don't). Its frustrating as hell. From the research I have done tonight it appears that WMP-12 in Windows 7 is even worse.

It makes me tempted to go back to Music Match but the version of that I have will not work with XP (and probably not much else either).

Posted by: Vic at November 25, 2010 02:52 AM (e4sSD)

873 Mornin Vic, you'd think all the year microsucks has been screwing with media player they would have finally made it easy and versatile.  But that's not in the cards. I am liking win7 best of the bunch however and making things big on a laptop  you only need spread your fingers apart on the pad.

You can't install MM in xp mode. I think right clicking on the setup exe *on the install cd* should give you that option..

Posted by: beanervt at November 25, 2010 03:02 AM (wvnuO)

874 I am liking win7 best of the bunch however and making things big on a laptop  you only need spread your fingers apart on the pad.

I read a write-up while searching for knowledge vase that said WMP12 in Win 7 did the same thing with the album art. Converts it to 200x200 regardless of the size that is downloaded.

And yeah, I tried loading MM-7 when I got this computer years ago and it just wouldn't run at all. I liked MM at the time because it had a choice for using the aux input as a recording media. At the time I was digitizing my old album collection and that was the only way to get it on the computer. (WMP doesn't have a choice for aux in).

I wound up using an old computer running Win 98 to digitize the albums and then transferring them to this one.

Now I have a USB turntable with a special program made by Sony for that. Too bad I had already spent 5 years on the old method.

Huh, I would have figured with all the visual rendering improvements made in w7 it could handle it *3d*. Apparently not wmp however.. Some times made for works best, frustration wise and money too.

877 Topic: article "Dependency and the Destruction of American Virtues,"  in American Thinker, by Daniel Fitzgerald

There is no way on the American Thinker site to write feedback, so here is mine.

The article is about the author's son, Keith, an adult. Keith's childhood is detailed. Other than a few supposedly minor events of teenage rebellion, Keith was a great child with a perfect childhood and a bright future, according to his father. Then he went to college and everything went straight to hell, it is stated more or less. It turns out Keith was genetically doomed, his father claims, because he had a few relatives who might have had a psychological disorder. Now Keith lives at home and is shot up full of pharmaceutical drugs all the time. He is like a living comatose patient, and can't do anything because of his mental illness. (Or is it that he is taking so many drugs?)

This article seems biased. The author implicitly takes credit for all of the good things in Keith's life. Then he blames all of the bad things on an unfortunate random medley of genetics. It is too convenient for the author to be entirely believable.

The author and father does not give us much information about the severity of Keith's mental illness, except he blames it for everything. The people all around him, upon interacting with Keith, immediately suggest to Keith's father that he get Keith on disability payments (Social Security). Keith's father takes that as a sign our society has gone to hell, because people are too quick these days to jump on the government dole.

In my experience, however, very few in America want themselves or their relatives or friends to be on disability payments. If a bunch of people were suggesting that Keith get disability payments, perhaps his mental illness is indeed staggering and severe. While I am against government intrusion as well, this society has enough wealth to make sure that the least fortunate, such as amputee war veterans, and the severely mentally disturbed, at least have decent lives. Even if they can't hold down jobs, at least they won't go starving in the streets. That's the purpose of the small disability payments available under the federal government.

The father needs to look in the mirror. First, he needs to ask, is his son really mentally defective, or was it a combination of extreme religious beliefs, strict parenting, and Keith's indulgence in illegal drugs that perhaps caused his mental disturbance? Let's face reality. people usually only hallucinate after they have taken LSD, cocaine, shrooms, or other illegal drugs. Maybe one of Keith's supposed friends gave him some "bad acid" or the like, and it has affected Keith for a long time. Has Keith told his father everything? Is Keith an addict for one drug who has just switched to new drugs, like pharmaceuticals? Maybe Keith needs to dry out completely. Has the father thought of that?

Second, are pharmaceutical drugs actually helping? Apparently not. He still can't hold down a job. Keith should get off all the drugs, go completely sober, and pursue a talking cure.

Third, ultimately Keith's life is Keith's responsibility. The father needs to honor that and allow Keith to go Keith's way.

Fourth, if in fact Keith is severely disturbed, and is so out-of-touch with reality that he must be on disability payments, then suck it up, and take the payments. Get Keith into a group home or something and let him live out whatever is left of his life in dignity. Or, if he is not that disturbed, get him dried out, then let him hit bottom, and be there when he asks for help solving his problems. Basically, get him into group therapy, or allow him to pursue a solution on his own.

Fifth, the father should try to reconcile his written essay with the actual history of Keith. Was there anything good at all that Keith did on his own after he left the nest? The father gives him no credit for anything good at that point. Clearly, that cannot be the case. The father is acting like a prosecutor of his own son.

Sixth, the father should do a self-examination. Clearly, the father is arrogant and egotistical and unable to take any responsibility for the situation himself. He needs to put his own views to the same test he applies so rigorously to "the dependent society" and to Keith and his mistakes. While no one likes subjecting themselves to a withering self-critique, that is truly what Keith's father needs most right now.

Seventh, does the father love his son Keith? Does Keith know that? How does the father show his love to Keith?

Good luck to Keith, his father, and his family.

880 In my experience, however, very few in America want themselves or their relatives or friends to be on disability payments.

Not true anymore. I was looking into that a few days back on one of the Monty doom/SS doomed threads. SSI (disability) payments are now twice that of the normal SS retirement payments. It has been growing by leaps and bounds.  If anything is bankrupting SS this is it.

It is the latest scam in some of the urban environments for those who churn out multiple children as a way of "making a living". All it takes is a sympathetic (read crooked) doctor and your child can have a "disability" that qualifies not only for thousands a month from SS, but all kinds of special programs from the State and city governments. Also get special stuff at the schools.

Some families have an entire household full of disabilities.

889 What's with the T-day parade coverage this year?  It's been declining for years, but I used to be able to find something reasonable... but this year's CBS coverage (the only that I can find) has all kinds of studio crap.  I don't think I've seen a balloon yet.  Geez.

Good morning, moron nation, and happy Thanksgiving!  Which reminds me, if we one-term Obama, I think that election day 2012 should be the Moron Nation's version of Thanksgiving.
