Overnight Thread-Christmas Edition [CDR M]
— Open Blogger

Good evening Moron Nation and Merry Christmas!! Hope Santa paid you all a visit and brought what your black hearts desired! I sure hope each and every one of us got to spend time with family and friends. To those forward deployed, you are forever in our thoughts. Come home safe. I'm sure for most, the day went off without a hitch (except Genghis who is dealing with Stuxnet at his house) but I'm sure there are some of us with some great stories to share around the blogsphere campfire, especially if they pertain to libtard family members! Regardless, here are some tips if you face zombies tonight on this most holy day. You can substitute liberals for zombies. Works the same.

So what did you have for dinner? Turkey? Ham? Hobo? Well here's what the rest of the world eats on Christmas Day.

Genghis says this is mandatory viewing every Christmas and I'd have to agree.
Woodland Critter Christmas.

This is what happens when some take Star Wars way too seriously. Clever nonetheless, maybe even a bit cute. The AT-AT family Christmas

This is probably the same family. The AT-AT dog.

Here's some info I'm puttin' to you guys that could come in handy like tomorrow. How To Return Unwanted Holiday Gifts.

Heh, a spoof of those Pure Michigan commercials. This one is titled: Winter Virgins.

And for you traveler's, 6 places germs breed in airplanes.

Just too cute.

This is perfect for Christmas Day. Theo Spark sums it up nicely. Killing our enemies on Christmas Day since 1776. Here's a link to George Washington's full speech. That's how a friggin' President is supposed to sound. And without a teleprompter.

Heh. The 50 Worst Christmas Albums of All Time.

Speaking of Christmas ditties, Genghis sends in this one (NSFW):

You thought your Family Christmas photo's were bad? Look at these and feel a whole better about yo' self (hopefully). Awesome Family Christmas Pictures.

I know, I know, you need some eye bleach after that last picture. This will help. Pretty awesome Christmas Light show at my house. OK, not my house, but someone's house. For reals.

I'm mad at Santa. I didn't see this under the tree today. Hawt Christmas Outfits. Look at the bright side, if you feel naughty for looking at them, you have 364 days to be nice again!

So do you think you can play guitar? Christmas songs? Then give Santa Rock Star a try! It's free.

Of course, since it's Caturday, here's your cat video with a holiday twist:

On a serious note, let's not forget those standing watch at the pointy end of the spear.

That's all I got tonight. Merry Christmas everyone! God bless you all and have a great night!

5 On a serious note, let's not forget those standing watch at the pointy end of the spear.

*This is a bit old, but not stale.  I had to bite back a tear or two when I first saw it a few years ago*

   TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
   HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
   PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
   WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
   AND TO SEE JUST WHO
   IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

   I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
   NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
   NOT EVEN A TREE.

   NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
   JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
   ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
   OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

   WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
   AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
   A SOBER THOUGHT
   CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

   FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
   IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
   ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

   THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
   SILENT, ALONE,
   CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
   IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

   THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
   THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
   NOT HOW I PICTURED
   A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

   WAS THIS THE HERO
   OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
   CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
   THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

   I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
   THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
   WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

   SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
   THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
   AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
   A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

   THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
   EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
   BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
   LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

   I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
   HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
   ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

   THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
   I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
   AND STARTED TO CRY.

   THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
   "SANTA DON'T CRY,
   THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

   I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
   I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
   MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
   MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."

   THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
   AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
   I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
   I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

   I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
   SO SILENT AND STILL
   AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
   FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

   I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
   ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
   THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
   SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

   THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
   WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

   ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
   "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

A Merry Christmas and a Godspeed to all our men and women in the Military.

24 Half-way thru The Lion in Winter, and YUP they cover the bases to portray Richard the Lionhearted as gay, alright. Doting mother that he adores, horrible relationship with a cold, distant father. Most psychologists will privately tell you that's the typical profile - but of course have been beaten into mouthing belief in the Invisible Gay Gene by the PC police in public. Still, I wonder if this storyline is all melodrama, or if there is any evidence Richard was really gay?

Posted by: CoolCzech at December 25, 2010 05:34 PM (tJjm/)

25 23 - Actually, one of the most ridiculous shows I ever watched was a BBC serial where a flu wiped out like 99% of the world population. It's the damned apocalypse, but since it's British TV... NO ONE WOULD GO GET THEMSELVES A GUN. I would accept it if they couldn't FIND guns, but no - anyone in the show who so much as looks admiringly at any sort of weapon of any kind is instantly established as a villain. It was absolutely the most batshit thing I have ever witnessed.

Progessive Way:  Well, maybe if we just sit down and talk with the Zombies, without preconditions, and hear their issues and open a dialogue with them.  Perhaps with smart, skillful diplomacy we can reach a common understanding and find a way to coexist in peace and prosperity.

Moron Way:  BOOM!! Headshot.

very much, it's what Treyarch ripped off for their Zombie mode (and did a shit job at it). More weapons, more and bigger maps, perk system and interesting characters (need to buy the London's Finest pack for the priest). Plus, the current Christmas theme is really cool.

That being said, I would wait to see if it pops up as one of their daily deals (which it more than likely will for about $5 or they'll do a complete collection with all of the character packs)

Don't get me wrong, RFG isn't a bad game per say but it's more of a sandbox cause destruction game and Just Cause 2 is king in that regard. It was worth the extra $2.50

The X series is a modern Wing Commander: Privateer. If you like space trading, it's the best though it is very easy to get lost in the game and you do have to slog through some shit at the beginning before it kicks into gear when you can start upgrading your ship. 137 So I had one big annoyance this year.

I ordered a large number of gifts from Sears online to my office.

I got three boxes and took them home. A few days later I started wrapping.

Didn't see a couple of gifts so I went looking into my manifest and saw they sent *four* packages.

So I checked the UPS records and they have four boxes signed for at my office. Double checked the area we keep packages, and asked the receptionist - we didn't have any unclaimed boxes....

Now the four packages came on two consecutive days. I remember getting two one day, and not the other day - and I tore my house up looking for the other box.

So I'm now somewhat confident that someone at my work took a package clearly marked for me.

We don't have that many people, and I've been there a long time now, so just about everyone knows me...

I'm going to talk to the office manager on Monday, but what kind of jerk steals a box at Christmas time? Not to mention the risk? Is it really worth getting fired for $50 worth of random stuff?

UPS claims they have the receptionist's signature on them. We got a lot of packages sent to us, so she doesn't remember signing for any particular package...

I have one small hope that UPS did screw up the delivery and has a signature for the other package I did get, since they came on the same day. UPS said they will do their lost package analysis but it will take a week.

I also called Sears and said I didn't get it. They are the ones that told me to follow up with UPS...

Its possible someone at work took the box accidentally too, but I expect in that case I would have gotten a call or email by now...

Evening all, I'm back. Not that anyone really missed me.  We stopped at my son-in-laws parents home to drop off gifts.  The usual snacks were on the counter, my daughter, hubby and grandson were there.  I grabbed a handful of some trail mix and popped some of the handful in my mouth.  Kind crunchy, didnt taste very good right out of the box.  Yup, somebody had put the dogfood on the counter to keep the baby out of it. It did give me health teeth and gums.

189 Sorry, phone rang.  My crazy sister who lives in Iowa called Youngest Daughter who lives in NC thinking she was a co-worker and asked her if she needed a ride to work at 6 in the morning.  Youngest Daughter was confused, crazy sister realized her mistake and said OOPS Wrong number! and hung up without further explanation.  Youngest Daughter is now going to call crazy sister and laugh at her.

Type 99, very nice!  I have heard that it can be re-chambered for .303 or .308, or that one of those two cartridges can be re-sized and reloaded with the correct powder load and bullets.

I told Youngest Daughter that I was at the beach taking pictures of the car, top down, 70 degrees.  She snarled at me and said it was snowing in Raleigh.  Eldest Son just told me they were expecting 6-8 inches.  If so, that will close Raleigh down tight for a couple of days.  Hopefully that mess will be cleared off before I head back home on Tuesday.

Have it checked by a competent gunsmith, but as long as 1) it's not a training rifle (the unpleasant rep Arisakas have is usually due to some idiot trying to fire live rounds through a training rifle) and 2) the bore is still in good shape (most of the non-last ditch rifle bores were chrome plated, so should be OK) it should be fine to fire.  The Type 38 and Type 99's were tested post-war and found to have the strongest actions of any rifle on either side, the barrels generally blew off before the actions were harmed.  There are stories of people firing 30-06 rounds through a Type 99 without damaging it.  The bullets ended up pretty mis-shapen, but the rifles were fine.

Something about a movie that captures you at age 10. The prequils will not age well since they were only done in 1080 and not 4k. (thank god, maybe we can forget the prequels)

As I mentioned last night, we get together on Christmas Eve to exchange gift so we stay out of Santa's way on Christmas Morning.  My wife wanted me to check the pigs in a blanket to see if they were done when I took them out of the 350 degree oven.  Now I am not going to get a temperature probe for that little thing.  I carefully took a little bite off one and squirted the very well done juice from the tiny hot dog on my upper lip and raised a blister on it right in the center.  As I wiped my mouth at the Christmas dinner table tonight I ripped away the skin.  Did you know pretty much anything one eats burns when applied to a freshly ripped blister?  I repeatedly applied Johnny Walker medication to the area throughout the evening and it seems to have helped.

What I like about this one is it is very user friendly.  Take a peek at it.  wind speed, Direction cloud cover, cloud vase, vis in miles, temperature on an hour by hour basis. one or two click to get to winds aloft and it has been pretty accurate.

Yeah, once he noticed it. He was still half asleep when he walked over and picked up his stocking which was leaning strategically on the bike. He sat down next to the bike and went through the stocking, acted kind of disappointed. He dad finally asked him "hey, what's that?"  "What?" the boy replies. "That big red thing with the big red bow on it that you're sitting right next to." The boy looks to where dad is pointing "Oh! It's a bike!!!"   face palm

Once he noticed it, he fell in love with the bike. Especially the bell.

When someone asked Ben Franklin what type of government the framers had drafted, he presciently replied, "A republic, if you can keep it".

Evening all.  Had a wonderful Christmas.  Hubby spoiled me rotten, kids got me speakers for my laptop.  Mom and brudder got me lots of nice things.  Went over to my sister in laws tonight.  I had already gotten my secret santa gift, so when she handed me a small box I thought what the hell?  The gift tag read to my other daughter from mom.

We lost my mother in law in July.  My sister in law said Jewells you did so much for mom, she loved you like you were her own daughter.  I started crying.  The box contained a Pandora bracelet with an angel charm.  My mother in law always referred to her kids as angels.  Hubby is angel #1 and so on down to his younger brother, angel #8.  As her children married the spouses became angel #9, 10 etc.  So angels are a BIG deal in this family.

It meant so much to me and I will treasure it always.

I swear like that here and and I'm told I need to tone it down. I feel like I'm too much, all the time.. I'm a mother, if your child is happy (for 20 years, not 20 minutes) is happy and you still can't put aside your bitterness, then there is a difference between Frank and being Dick, yeah?

True that.  I'm sorry for your situation though.  That's terribly sad for her to have such bitterness in her heart.  Believe me, I've been on the receiving end of it.  My first husband for starters.  Still hates my guts and permanently damaged any real chance of the daughter we had together to ever have a good relationship with me.  Breaks my heart.

7.7 ammo looks hard to find though, unless you roll it yourself.

Yeah, like I said upthread, I can get it a couple of places online, but damned expensive. 220 Swift fits the chamber fine, I just don't know if it's good to fire through the gun.

I should look into that. 220 is ample around here.

Rodent,

My biggest concern with the 220 is the casing fits fine in the chamber, but the bullet itself is much smaller than the barrel. I don't see how that can be good for the barrel. Or accuracy, for that matter.

Posted by: Land of Leakin at December 25, 2010 09:05 PM (AMYl0)

357 220 Swift fits the chamber fine But the bore is .311, a .22 will just rattle down it, and you might not get all the brass back either. I don't think you'll hurt it, but it's not something I'd do.

378 Land of Leakin: You don't want whole .308 rounds, just the brass. I mean, yeah, you could pull the whole rounds apart, but that's a pain and a waste. I'd send you a few dozen .308 brass, free. Got a bucket full. Problem with sending loaded ammo or even primed brass is hazmat regs. (I'll check on primed brass, maybe I can mail that.) Reloading presses are pretty cheap (YMMV) unless you want a fancy progressive rig to do hundreds of rounds an hour. If you can find somebody with a set of 7.7 dies to reform .308, they'll also have the .308 brass, so again no reason to go buy .308. Pardon the jargon, decades of reloading and a stint workin' in a gunshop, so I tend to skip the fine details. If you want a step-by-step, just say so.

And of course it's a well known fact that excessive use of air-conditioning during the summer leads to winter. I mean really, where does all that cold air go?

Works for me anyhow...

Would that be an unattended car? Actually, I think there are laws  here in KS that concern that. Not that anyone observes them from what I can see. Cars with the engine running as they run into a convenience store, etc.

As for myself, I never do that. If I'm warming up the car, I'm pretty much right next to it. No reason to give anyone an opportunity to break the law.

434 I wouldn't consider 'standing right there, scraping the ice off' to be 'unattended' but I'm not an eco-fascist whackjob...

OTOH, 'Erdgas' seems to be big here, the bus runs on it.  Compare to New York, which has put harvesting it off-limits.

I'm curious...

Posted by: HH at December 26, 2010 02:12 AM (6oDXl)

436 LOL, it has warmed up to 32.6° and is snowing even harder. If it was slightly colder it would be getting deep now.

Morning, I am bouncing in and out. It looks like about 2" now, temps hanging around 32 and it is covering the road now so we know there is now a later of ice on the roads.

Looks like the snow is now mixing with sleet as it comes down as well.

I have drug up a rocking chair in front of the large window and broke out the beer. Bourbon will follow shortly.

Posted by: Vic at December 26, 2010 03:13 AM (M9Ie6)

438 Just came in from outside, no sleet. The puddle in the driveway just before connecting to the road however is icing over. Must be colder than 32° now.

Naw, your buddy is working to pass it through congress:

2011 could bring some quick indications on whether this yearÂ’s collapse of energy and climate legislation in the Senate created lasting wounds.

Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) chatted Wednesday about reviving their partnership on energy, Lieberman told E2.

“It is one of the things we want to work on together next year, start again,” Lieberman said Wednesday in the Capitol. His comments come as President Obama in the new year will seek talks with Republicans on energy.

Lieberman said areas on the table include a “clean-energy standard” for utilities, which Graham is already pushing, and efforts to boost natural gas and nuclear power development.

441 Mornin', Morons! We're hunkering down to get ready for the giant dollop of Global Warming Winter Snow headed our way here in the Northeast... As if worrying about power outages and getting to work tomorrow weren't enough, our son is flying out to spend New Years with family in Omaha (yeah, I know). I'm not altogether happy about this, but still - he is what is best described as borderline autistic (Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified - a clinical way to say, "Beats the shit out of me!"). The fact we are letting him go like this, with a changeover in Detroit, is a huge monument to how much progress he has made over the years... but you can imagine how I worry, nonetheless...

Snow slacking off somewhat now. Neighbor's little girls out making snow men (in between throwing snowballs at each other.)

Not to worry, I have a nephew who is full autisctic and he has zero problems dealing with stuff like that. He only has problems communicating. That makes people who are not knowledgeable on the score think he has mental problems. That is just not the case.

447 So when I was putting dishes away last night I had to battle with a bag of 500 bendy straws and it appears one escaped (bendy straws, rubber bands and twist ties TOTALLY piss off our cats).

I go to fix coffee this morning and the cats demand breakfast, so I go to their bowls and what's sticking out of the water bowl? A straw! It was even bent like a cat could drink from it. The little bastards are always up to something.

Do you have a strategy for getting him through the security lines?  Seriously, are you allowed to go with him or is he not that bad about people touching him.  'Hope his trip is uneventful and he has a nice visit in Omaha.  Heck, why not Omaha?!  chemjeff can give him good pointers I bet!

Good thing NASA is focusing on Islamic outreach:

China Matches U.S. Space Launches for First Time

Outwardly, it looked like just another big space launch — and those happen about once a week, from spaceports all around the world. But Friday’s blast-off of a rocket, carrying a Chinese GPS-style navigation satellite, from the Xi Chang Satellite Launch Center was different. It set a record for successful Chinese launches in one year: 15.

The launch represented another important milestone. For the first time since the chilliest days of the Cold War, another country has matched the United States in sheer number of rocket launches.

Yes, I've had cats that knocked to get in.

The best, though, was the first cat that figured out to scratch at the bottom of a door to get let in. I say that because we had a dog for about four years that never scratched at doors. After a couple of weeks of watching the cat get results, however, he started scratching too. One pet learned it from another for the next 20 years.

Yeah.  But it's not unique to the NFL.  Sport have become so driven by "personalities."  I blame the Olympics for starting this trend.

Governor regrets not informing victim's family before commuting killer

A day after commuting the sentence of a man convicted of killing an unarmed teenager during a racially charged confrontation, New York Gov. David A. Paterson said he regretted not informing the victim's family first.

"In retrospect I would have sought the (victim's family's) input and that's why I spoke with the family today," Paterson told reporters at a news conference Friday morning.

John White, an African-American, was convicted of second-degree manslaughter and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon in the shooting death of Daniel Cicciaro, 17, who was white.

White was serving a sentence of up to four years in prison when Paterson commuted his sentence Thursday.

Got to Target at 7:05 this morning to buy stuff for my daughter's bday tomorrow and to get an audio cable to hook up the nice new Blu Ray player/wireless Internet wonder.

Hubby goes to plug it in and finds that the cheap ass TV we've had for a couple years has an empty hole behind the plug. There's just nothing there!

460 1 in 4 fail Army Entrance Exam

I don't know what its like today, but in the 70's you only needed to score a 9 out of 100 to "pass".  On a multiple guess test with 4/5 answers per question, random choices should have been good enough to pass, so I guess they were looking to weed out only the "actively stupid".

Of course, I aced the test stunning the recruiters who said they'd never seen anyone do that.  Anyone who wasn't sleeping in high school should have been able to score well over 90.

There was some idiot recruit at Ft Dix who didn't even know how to write his own name, and he must have managed to pass it.  I had to write the dude's name in his boots for him.
