I don't even eat sweets (just make them), and so next year I'm going to order the twelve-layer cake from Peninsula (Orca declared it one of her favorite things) and just haul it to the libtard family and not even tell them where it came from.

Sadly enough, it's pretty close to the absolute truth, but probably not the way they mean it. Jane that is truly awesome. I like doing care packages too. Alex, we are here for you. You will be in our thoughts and prayers, and yes, if you need anything, you need to let us know. I would totally love to do a care package.
Anyone looking for a good charity to donate to now to complete their end of year giving, The Semper Fi Fund is awesome. Less than 6 percent of their contributions go to administrative costs. The rest of it goes directly to wounded warriors. I did an online donation yesterday (although, my credit card company initially rejected it twice, then called me because they thought it might be a fraudulent operation). I told the woman at Fraud Protection who called me that it is a very legit and reputable charity that donates 94% of the proceeds to actual wounded veterans. I told her I usually send a check, but got behind with all the Christmas stuff, I had to do an online donation. She stayed on the phone with me til I successfully completed the transaction, and expressed surprise that I was giving money when so few people are giving to charity right now. I told her that we are so fortunate and so blessed to be living in this great country and that these guys literally put their lives on the line so people like me can enjoy the freedoms and prosperity bought by their sacrifice. By the end of the conversation, it sounded like she was thinking about giving too.

About the Ted Bundy thingy: long ago I photographed records for microfilm. I did lots of police records and hospital records.
The rapists tended to dwell under bridges and overpasses. They always, I'm not kidding, had a stash of pornography. So did the child rapists. I had no idea about this before I saw these things.
Around the same time, we lived in a big old Victorian. And one of our neighbors went under the house to look for his cat, and found a bunch of porno mags and clothes. And some guy on the lam was hiding out there. We called the cops and they came and took him away.

My strange addiction marks the last step in TLC's 5 year transition from edutainment to full-on freakshow. Half of the TLC "stars" would have been thrown in the nuthouse just 30 years ago. The other half, the clown car uterati and the religious turnstyle vagina and the army of midgets, would've made for some great late night entertainment on USA's Night Flight.

Nothing like hearing the very same tall tales out of a teenage mouth that you told when you were young to realize that your parents saw through all your crap.

Kid turns 21 Jan. 25.
Gift ideas?
Jane, does he have a really good headlight? Like a Petzl that mountaineers use? One of my co-workers (a reservist) went to Iraq a couple of years ago. I bought him a bunch of stuff before he left. One of the things I gave him was a good headlight which he emailed later to say he was using all the time. I also bought him some anti-chafing/anti blister stuff that's so much better than Body Glide and doesn't have that nasty odor Body Glide does. It's called Blister Shield. It's sold at good running stores and also at 2toms dot com. It's the best stuff to prevent chafing and blisters. It's a roll on application. Smart wool sox are always nice. If he doesn't have the movie "Team America" that's a classic, for sure. If he's a coffee drinker, Starbucks has that new instant stuff, VIA that my husband thinks is pretty good. (I don't drink coffee so I don't know).
Also good books--or maybe a Kindle? I got Unbroken for Christmas, but haven't started it as I'm reading 3 cups of Tea (also a Christmas present) and Born to Run right now.

Falling Skies: alternate title: John Carter, Warlord of . . . Earth. 'Cause Falling Skies's star Noah Wylie also played a doctor named John Carter, which was also the name of a famous pulp hero who fought Martians.
Speaking of which, the new John Carter movie has an amazing cast and crew. If only it lives up to half its potential. I mean, I can't think of five cooler words associated with a sci/fi movie than: "Willem Dafoe as Tars Tarkis."

Unfortunately true. Once upon a time we caught a thief on Forrestal and took him to the Cap'n. The Cap'n said this man looks too good to be a thief. Bring him back when he looks like a thief. A couple of trips head-first down the ladders and the Cap'n agreed that he looked like a thief. I'm pretty sure you could get yourself in trouble for that sort of thing these "kinder gentler" days.

It's not as cool as today's gang bangers.
I think it has to do with America hating libtards who control the film industry. They hate to see anything that elevates America's status as the world's super power or glorifies things like Westward expansion. Plus, our history is "stained" with the blood of innocent Native Americans who were raped, pillaged and had their land stolen right from under them by the evil White man. They view America through their skewed lens of history and find nothing worth celebrating. The Western basically glorifies Manifest Destiny, the strong American cowboy, God and country. All things lefties hate.

I have some real news for the news people; this ain't new and the Chinese have the same problem the Russians had, you have to find the carrier first, and then you have to hit it while it is moving. Finding it is tough, hitting any kind of a moving target with a ballistic missile is even tougher since you have almost zero control over it once it is launched.
Ballistic missiles are not the big threat to the carriers so what is the end game here with all this publicity?
Posted by: Vic at December 30, 2010 01:22 AM (M9Ie6)
We Morons need to quit giving them airtime.
Posted by: Vic at December 30, 2010 01:24 AM (M9Ie6)
and on the Missile if it finds the carrier group it will have to go through defense ships armament and anti missiles plus the gattling guns on the carrier and surrounding ships..

Posted by: Vic at December 30, 2010 01:27 AM (M9Ie6)
I'm sure the idea is to use a nuke. But as I said finding it is tough. Its a big ocean. Once you find it and launch we would know almost immediately and a carrier can move a long ways in the 30 or 40 minutes travel time.
A ship killer ballistic missile is a waste of money. I'm glad some other countries are having problems with logical procurement. Obviously someone has a nephew in the ballistic missile business or this whole thing is a false flag operation designed to hide something else.

Nation's largest racist
organization shows it true colors again
The South Carolina NAACP will use its annual January State House rally to oppose cuts to state health care and education programs as well as a proposed Arizona-style immigration bill.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Day rally also will renew the S.C. NAACPÂ’s call to remove the Confederate flag from the State House grounds and for groups to boycott S.C. tourism until the flag is placed in a museum, S.C. chapter president Lonnie Randolph said Wednesday.
The National Association for Advancement of Communism will hold it annual rally to fight for wealth redistribution and its resistance to all things dealing with confederate history.
This while celebrating a figure who gave up civil rights in the last years of his efforts to fight against the U.S. in the Vietnam war and help communist causes all over the nation. Black Liberation Theology wasn't born with Jeremiah Wright.

My favorite letter writer strikes again:
Editor:
Once every two years on the first day of the new Senate there is an opportunity for the senators to change the rules of the Senate and get rid of rules like the filibuster that allow the minority to rule over the majority. On Jan. 5 on a simple majority vote, they could choose to end the abuses of power that have caused the people to despise Congress so much.
The Democrats have the votes to make it happen, but it would end their power to abuse the system if they should become a minority. You would think that Republicans might be in favor of change as well and maybe some Republicans might help vote in the rule changes.

His letters disappeared when the paper was bought out by the McClatchy group.
Imagine that.

They are blaming Congress fighting over budget instead of NASA.

The National Association for Advancement of Communism will hold it annual rally to fight for wealth redistribution and its resistance to all things involving personal responsibility, educating oneself and holding down a steady job dealing with confederate history.

James Cyburn (D, Slackers, and proud holder of sop leadership position) will be there, of course.

They used to launch GPS satellites. I guess the Air Force could do that, however.

Former FBI agent Ryan Seese was ordered to spend one month to nearly two years bars for spying on women in bathrooms in Derry Township. The sentence was handed down Tuesday morning. Prosecutors called it appropriately harsh.
As part of his sentence, Seese must also spend three years on county probation and he is not allowed to be on the property of any school, daycare center, playground or park.
Police said Seese hid in the stall of a girl's bathroom at Hershey Middle School back in May and peered over the wall to watch a 14-year-old girl. They also said in February he went into a ladies' bathroom at the Granada Gym in Derry Township. Police said there were two victims in that case.
Tuesday's sentence includes both the incidents at the gym and the incident at the middle school.
