Palin Signs on With FoxNews, as Contributor
— Ace

Chaotic Evil, Lawful Evil merge into new alignment called Awesome Evil.

Ms. Palin will not have her own regular program, one person familiar with the deal said, though she will host an occasional series that will run on the network from time to time. This person would not elaborate, but the network does have a precedent for such a series. Oliver L. North is the host of an occasionally running documentary series on the military called “War Stories.”

Many suspected that when Ms. Palin retired as the governor of Alaska last summer she was doing so to pursue some sort of career in television. The Fox News deal, however, would not seem to be all encompassing, and would appear to give her room for other pursuits, as well.

14 This makes me think, 1) she's not running for POTUS in 2012, and 2) how incredibly good it would be to have her and Megyn Kelly do some sort of show together.

Not many brunettes in top FOX shows....

15 I think it's a good idea. She still needs to undo the damage the media did to her during the 2008 election. She's done a good job so far with her book tour and this will keep her in the public eye. Moreover, the Facebook schtick can't maintain the same impact level forever. The law of diminishing returns is already happening as the MSM is starting to ignore those posts.

20 I think that Sarah is positioning herself (successfully, so far) as the more-photogenic counterpart to Rush Limbaugh. He rules the radio airwaves; she's moving to do the same in visual media. I think the experience of the 2008 campaign gave her some pretty deep insight into where she could use her formidable strengths to most effect: in rallying the base and pulling in so-called "moderates". I think that she herself realizes that she is too polarizing a figure to pull in many leaners, but as a standard-bearer for the new "tea party" union of disaffected GOPers, independents, and libertarians, she's a perfect fit.

I wouldn't rule out a run for office again in 2012, but much will depend on how events transpire between now and then. The "tea party" movement will probably gather a lot of steam as the various boondoggles now underway continue to play out: the collapse of various states (California, Michigan, New York, etc.); the looming public-pension catastrophe; the anemic job picture through 2012; the profligacy of the federal government.

Much of her appeal is pure populism, but that's not necessarily bad in itself. The rank-and-file taxpayers are getting a world-class pronging from the so-called elites, and it's past time for a rebellion. Perhaps Sarah can lead this mass of angry taxpayers into some kind of organized revolt. If so...Godspeed!

I am not a huge Palinite, but it isn't suprising. I think she will do what Huckabee is doing, which is trying to follow the Reagan model of being in contact with everyday Americans even when you are not involved in politics(political office).

Reagan gave his radio commentaries and toured America for General Electric. I think that is what Huckabee was trying to do with his Fox show and now it looks like Palin is adding another line of communication to america that don't follow her facebook account.

I am not saying either is Reagan, clearly they both come up short, but it does look like they are trying to follow his model on how to remain relevant to Americans when not running for or working in a political office.

she's shouldn't run 2012. I think she would make a better king maker than a king. (to the left, that is a figure of speach, i do not actually want her to be involved in the overthrow of our government to install a monarchy).

She should have been the head of the RNC. She is a fund raising machine, and she gets a certain segment of our party extremely energized, whereas Steele just seems to be interested in himself and not the reformation and expansion of the party.

I wouldn't be so quick to figure that. She seems to know all the right moves.

Back when she resigned, only a small percentage saw the political genius in it. She's at the point now where it's safe to presume political genius first. She's bigger than Fox News and appearing on it will not change that.

Karl Rove was merely a lib caricature to me before he started appearing regularly on Fox. She needs people to see her and this is how it happens.

Posted by: The Mega Independent at January 11, 2010 09:24 AM (WN5nA)

39 I think it's mildly inconsistent with a 2012 run because it makes her part of the Evil Cable News Network, which is hated by non-Conservatives.  Mildly because she's not going to ever win many fans "over there" ever.

Posted by: ParisParamus at January 11, 2010 09:24 AM (Hv1Cx)

40

I believe this is dangerous.  You see, when you have such an intense convergence of hawtness like Megyn Kelly, Julie Banderas, and now Sarah Palin on the same network, it could cause catastrophic damage to the space-time continuum and throw our universe into some sort of Nth dimensional void.  The scale of damage easily suprasses God-levels.

Or, we can just tune in and watch Fox News make other cable networks get coffee for it.

50 Populism is popular. I would love to see another prominent Republican who could influence public opinion as effectively as Sarah Palin. The healthcare bill would have just slipped under the door, if it weren't for her Facebook post and the infamous "death panel" comment.

She needs a bigger platform that legitimizes her, as opposed to making her an  ornery citizen. Also, Sarah Palin can go on TV and present herself as eloquent and informed, undoing the damage of her early 2008 interviews. This helps her approach Huckabee supporters, as well.

Consistent. She's running.

Lots of people watch Fox News. Lots of Democrats and Independents watch Fox News. Those of us who pay attention all the time may not think she needs exposure, but she needs exposure.

She's a heavy hitter, and showing your face in the bright sunlight is how you put to rest the opposition's false claims about you. But I'm glad she's not doing a show a la "Huckabee", because that would be a waste of time.

53 I think it's mildly inconsistent with a 2012 run because it makes her part of the Evil Cable News Network, which is hated by non-Conservatives.

Eh...I don't think so. People who hate her aren't likely to hate her more for appearing on the equally-hated Faux News. People who like her probably are either neutral or in favor of Fox, so it does no harm.

Politics is multimedia now, which explains the full-court Palin press: Twitter, Facebook, a TV gig, a book, etc. Limbaugh forged his empire in what at the time was a vast wasteland: AM Radio. But it was a huge and untapped market, and Rush pretty much single-handedly saved AM radio from oblivion. Palin is in a tougher spot: every niche has extreme competition in it, so the only way to stand out is to go broad rather than deep -- hit everything.

The danger to this approach, of course, is that of over-exposure. At some point, the constant message-sending turns into pure noise and people tune it out. But Rush has proved that this bar is much higher than you might think; he talks for three hours a day, every weekday, year in and year out; and he's more popular now than he's ever been.

Lacey, Beck's already on at 5 EST, but Beck interviewing her occasionally would send his ratings even further into the stratosphere.  Last Tuesday, he did a "bond" show, with a NY econ prof, where he explained how T Bills work.  He said he and his staff expected to lose their audience for good with this mind-numbing subject.  His ratings beat O'Reilly, the nightly leader.

Brain waves are weird today.  Beck mentioned Palin a couple times this morning.  He was agonizing about not having any politician off the top of his head that he could support because of his/her integrity.  Then he said, "But, if I was pressed, I guess I would say Palin."

10pm: Red Eye!

Posted by: laceyunderalls at January 11, 2010 09:40 AM (KmmkM)

63 ParisParamus, on balance I think this is inconsistent, mainly due to the length of the contract (coy is one thing, but she doesn't need to mask a plan to run-and FNC would run into problems giving her air time after she hypothetically announces which I assumed would be shortly after November's election), but doesn't necessarily cement her into not running.  We'll have to see what she does with the time.

And so I don't forget to note it, I thought I should mention your way that a Brown victory in MA next week will be big boost for Romney.  MA voters become less suspect, which means the doubts some of us have about him (okay, me) are dulled, and Obamacare basically dead in the water spares him from having to talk about it.

Good.  Huckabee was nothing but cannon fodder for the left.  Also, his staying in the primaries until the very last minute was an asshole thing to do.

She is now going to be in a position where all her words are recorded so the lefties can take every syllable out of context--that would hurt a future run but at the same time she can f with the left. Liz Cheney is doing a damn fine job and why not Sarah? Wonder where all the conservative men and their balls have gone? The women are having to carry the water.

I heard Beck play clips of Leno making caustic cracks about NBC. In his monologue, Leno told Kevin that (since he was being cancelled) he had always wanted to do some traveling and then said, "I hear FOX is lovely this time of year."

There's some ugly litigation going on at NBC.

97 Think of it this way.  Reagan, when between elections and in the wilderness, wrote a weekly column to stay in the news and kept his word and ideas out there.  Had there been cable news shows back then, he would have been a contributor.

She's following in Reagan's footsteps, only modernized.

98 68 Methos, interesting points.  I'll have to think about the Romney effect.  Romney was on HH last week (ok, 1-2-3 ug!), and he is not disowning MA healthcare wholesale

As for Palin, I don't think the contact, per se, is a reflection of 2012 aspiration for Palin.  Because, were Palin to run, Fox's ratings would shoot even higher than with Palin on Fox as a commentator, no?

The ultimate irony (from Libertarian Republican):

One convention to be held Inside the Beltway, the other Outside

Ron Paul often identified by the liberal media as an "outsider," has just confirmed his appearance at the ultimate insider conservative convention to be held in DC late February - the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin, often chided for having shared a ticket with "moderate" John McCain, has just confirmed her appearance as the keynoter at the very anti-establishment Tea Party Convention to be held in Nashville, Tennessee in early Feb.

On the Road with Sarah Palin

The first episode sees Governor Palin heading to the New York Times where she rips David Brooks's still beating heart out of his chest and shows it to him before he dies.

Let's keep in mind that she's going to be a contributor, folks.  She'll be on "regularly," like Dana Perino, but on other shows.  Not her own.

(DEAR BRET BAIER:  GET HER ON YOUR PANEL AT LEAST WEEKLY.  If at all possible, seat her next to Charles Krauthammer.  Doo eet.)

This does, however, test her out in the "pundit" arena, which seems to be where her career has been heading since 2008.  If she ever ran for anything in the near future, she would be inundated with the distractions of old footage from the 2008 cycle...  Only time, and biding it smartly, will make that baggage go away.  If she can counteract it with a decade of successful punditry, then maybe later on she might have a chance at a national-level elected position.  But she's gonna need about a 10:1 ratio of "look at how smart I am" video clips to battle off the "I'm too busy learning McCain's life story right now to have any time for a newspaper" interview footage that will surely haunt any future campaign.

I don't think she's going to run for office again -- although I believe she is one of the few politicians left who actually loves America and the republic.  I can see her taking a cabinet position or something like that though (and wouldn't she be wonderful in any post overseeing energy and/or the interior?)

Monty may be needing to cough up money to fix my husband's back after that comment...while not really into being a switch hitter I can honestly say that if Mr. Unknown and myself were 20 again, with no kids and no need to be good role models (and the physiques we had at 20 too; that would help out bunches)...well, I'd indulge him in a long weekend debauchery romp with SP (or somebody very similar).  A long weekend debauchery romp with episodes of "Mail Call" interspersed and someone would have to call an ambulance...or an undertaker.

Per C4P:  will appear as a commentator on various Fox shows. She will also host an occasional program that will examine inspirational tales involving ordinary Americans.

That's what I would like to see.  Let Hannity, Levin, Ingraham and Rush keep pounding on the dems.  Palin needs to pop up a level.  I'd like to see Palin do basic education, enlightenment, and spotlighting on what it means to be a conservative.  Have her go on the road and introduce everyday Americans to show how hard working, patriotic, and conservative they are.

Profiles In Conservatism, by Sarah Palin.

The Oprah of Conservatives: Sarah Palin.

What's it mean to be conservative?  What are they like?  Are they really racist homophobes?  What do they care about?  Are they really the "party of no?"  What do conservatives believe and why is it a better than being a liberal?  How can you spot a conservative?  Why is limited government a good thing?  How can I get involved?  What can I do?  Palin would be great in answering these questions by spotlighting everyday people.

The libs have brainwashed a generation and much work needs to be done.  Beck has been terrific in this area.  Many more people are reading the constition and are aware of Alinksy and Cloward-Piven because of his efforts.  Palin can bring her charm and spotlight like no one else can and she can keep it positive and uplifting.  She's plain spoken and she connects.

This could be fun to watch, if it's done right.

125 Press Release:

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has signed a multi-year deal with FOX News to serve as a contributor across all FOX News platforms, announced Bill Shine, Executive Vice President of Programming.

In making the announcement, Shine said, “Governor Palin has captivated everyone on both sides of the political spectrum and we are excited to add her dynamic voice to the FOX News lineup.” As a contributor, Palin will provide political commentary and analysis for FOX News Channel (FNC), FOX Business Network (FBN), FOXNews.com, and FOX News-produced special event political programming for FOX Broadcasting.

In addition, she will host periodic episodes of FNC’s “Real American Stories,” a series exploring inspirational real-life tales of overcoming adversity throughout the American landscape that will debut in 2010.

Palin added, “I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at FOX News. It’s wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news.”

126 Huckabee's a turd. Why that guy is even sharing our air is beyond me.

I look for her to do specials targeted to specific issues like energy, national security, taxes, states rights, etc.

I also see the LSM sending out scads of "reporter/journalists" to 'fact check' her specials. It will fun to see the networks handing out big paychecks as they come back empty-handed.

128 I've got an idea for the opening sequence... Imagine, if you will, a dark city alley, trash cans and empty boxes abound. Sirens and horns are heard in the distance. Then comes the unmistakable sound of high heals, a rhythm that tells of determination. Shot cuts to a pencil skirt that gives way to toned legs and stylish high heals. A patrolman's truncheon is seen being swung in a circular motion, it catches the dim light menacingly. The footsteps stop, a timid voice is heard to say "No! No! Not that! Please!" The sound of the trucheon meeting flesh and bone explodes! Cut to chyron - BOOM! Taste my Nightstick! with Governor Sarah Palin. I'm thinking of a music theme kind of like 'Rawhide'

Why is everyone so sure she planned to run for office again anytime in the near future? I think she can be incredibly effective in exposing the government and helping real conservative candidates get some exposure.

If she is sincere (and I think she is), she won't need a political position for her own ego. She will effect change in the best way she can. The media may be it.
