Palin's Statement
— Ace

Victory Lap:

Americans cheered for Scott BrownÂ’s underdog campaign because they viewed his candidacy as a vote against the DemocratsÂ’ health care bill. You know that thereÂ’s something wrong with this legislation when opposition to it inspired a Republican victory in a state that currently has no Republicans in Congress and last sent a Republican to the Senate nearly 40 years ago.

Clearly this victory is a bellwether for the big election night ten months from now. In the spirit of bipartisanship, let me offer some advice to the Democrats on how to stem this populist tide. Scrap your current health care bill and start from scratch. We all want true reform, but government mandated insurance is not it. Scott Brown campaigned against this top-down bureaucratic mess. We need common sense solutions like reforming malpractice laws, allowing people to purchase insurance across state lines, giving individual purchasers the same tax benefits as those who get coverage through their employers, and letting small businesses pool together to provide insurance for their employees. Focus your efforts on jobs, not on job-killing legislation. Such a change in approach would show Americans that youÂ’re listening.

18 There's no way for the Democrats to soft pedal the historic thumping that Republican Scott Brown delivered to Democrat Martha Coakley on Tuesday in the race to fill Ted Kennedy's Senate seat. Brown ran a shrewd campaign that tapped into the public's anger at the system; Coakley is like the "Waterworld" of American politics, an indelible symbol of failure and, yes, arrogance and stupidity. It will be many years before a candidate for public office again goes on vacation three weeks before an election or shows disrespect for local sports fans.

Is this a wake up call for President Obama? Yes. Does he need to show that he is listening more? Sure. But should this election kill health care? Don't be ridiculous. Who elected Massachusetts to decide for the rest of the country whether we move forward on the bill?

To say this should wreck the Obama Administration's health care policy is like saying that when Democrats took over Congress after a landslide victory in the 2006 mid-terms they should have killed the Bush Administration's Iraq War. Liberals made that argument, but no Republicans bought it. In fact, the opposite happened, as President Bush moved ahead with a surge over the objections of the Democrats and the will of the public as reflected in polls. The surge turned out better than the critics thought, and health care can, too.

24 Sarah Palin offers some common sense solutions, but the dems won't go for it.  They're obviously lost as to what common sense means, even though they lost the governorships of Virginia and New Jersey, and now the senate seat of one deceased Ted Kennedy in Massachusetts (something that hasn't happened in four decades.)

So the dems will keep doubling down on stupid, and in November they'll see how the rest of the US responds to their agenda.

It's looking good.

Mark Steyn is the best

Harry Reid's reluctance to seat Senator Brown (R- Mass) - boy, I enjoyed typing that - until "the proper paperwork has been received" seems awfully finicky for a man who famously declared he wanted to bring "twelve million undocumented Americans out of the shadows".

Why not start by bringing the undocumented Senator out of the shadows? Given the unelected Dems sitting in the Senate as replacements for Obama and his cabinet appointees, it would demonstrate a particular contempt for the people's voice to hold up the one guy who fought and won an election to get in there.

Not really relevant.  Existing law is up to the task...were it actually enforced by the executive.  Congress has little power to compel the executive to enforce specific laws if it doesn't want to, and congress itself has no enforcement powers.

72 Snap. Why won't Republicans demonstrate leadership and get off the "yes we can change the healthcare system?" Palin's message is don't let democrats reform healthcare because we republicans can reform healthcare better. Butt Snot. Her comment demonstrates followership not leadership. Republicans will sweep the elections if they'll focus on less regulation and taxes so business may flourish, keep us safe in our borders while protecting our economic and national security issues globally, and if "economic stimulus" is necessary, whatever the fuck that means, rebuild our domestic infrastructure. That, friends, is a winning platform. Deviating from that platform is playing into the hands of the deviants.

Obama's narcissism literally won't allow this to be anything BUT Coakley's fault.  All the dems that aren't 100% koolaid drinkers that will be fleeing from him now will be seen and treated as "traitors" by the Obama apparatus.

There's going to be some pretty heated private conversations and crude threats coming out of the white house in the future, but the dems with any savvy at all will realize Obama would bolster whatever "independent" cred they have left by attacking them in public.  They'll also know Obama is grasping at straws with private threats.

anyone that does not think Palin has political chops understand what she did.  She stayed out of the MA elections so that Brown could win.  she never mentioned the election except once during Hannity saying she hoped he won.  She did not try to be a diva and butt in.  she did not try to rally her supporters to his cause.  She left her fingerprints off the election and at the same time allowed her surrogates to spread the word.   That took humblness and team play.   she played ball with the wishes of the GOP leadership.

And then when the votes were counted she raised her head and said a big Fuck you to Obama and the dems.  That took a special kind of class.

This woman is a great political animal, a smart team player and  she carries a big nightstick.

Damn Sockpuppet,

It turned out ok.  Palin stayed away from Mitt's backyard showing class.  She also respected the GOP leadership wishes (i believe the GOP are wrong about her standing in the northeast).  So the fact that she stayed out of it when she could have used it to further her political ambitions says alot about her desire to defeat the dems not win the whitehouse.

So as a Palin supporter its a wash for me.

95 The next time Sarah  Palin is asked about the economy and unemployment, she should quote this line exactly. "President Obama should focus his efforts on jobs, not on job-killing legislation." I was waiting for something along these lines when she appeared on BOR. But I can't complain overall. Sarah Palin is doing an amazing job transitioning from Governor of Alaska to the leader of the resistance. I give her a lot of credit the recent wins in the NE.

Posted by: Tattoo De Plane at January 20, 2010 06:08 AM (mHQ7T)

Posted by: turfmann at January 20, 2010 06:46 AM (ywMlo)

97 One thing that I think is overlooked with Palin is that for the last year she has taken virtually ALL of the incoming fire. You hardly ever hear Demint get attacked by the media for example. Even Brown was not attacked by the media until it was too late. She has drawn all the enemy fire and while the left was rejoicing in their efforts to destroy her, the GOP has been mounting a quiet comeback, now not so quiet.

98 Palin's plan sounds reasonable.

T/4 it will never happen. I'm happy with things as they are rather than some half-assed compromise.

Rumor is Gov Palin is backing That trecherous azzhole McNasty in AZ...its the honorable thing to do so I don't slam her for it. BUT That bastard needs to GO!

Her solutions for heath care are right on and NO more from the govorment.

People who think Brown, err Senator Brown is a rino only have to look at snowe, mcnasty, amesty to judge his standing. He is a damn good choice.

100 She'll help Perry in Tex. and McPain in Ariz. ,out of loyalty,  (classy) .  But the best is in March (I believe) when she hooks up with Michelle Bachmann in Minn..  My two fav Reps. in tandem yet!!  2012 Palin POTUS....2010/2012 Bachmann Speaker of the House.  Kicking ass!   Rinos stay home!
